a shit ton of the fandom back then (and even still now) head canon keith as korean just because the vc, steven yeun, is korean and that’s probably the most stupidest move the majority of the fandom has made 😭 till this day they got me confused how they didn’t think how kogane is in fact NOT a korean last name but a japanese but at last i think it’s definitely the fetishization of east asians that was up bringing at that time.

like i even remember weird head canons of that korean hc and weird fanart that i never found nice, all was just fetishization (idk if i’m reaching on that part but that’s what i felt)

no youre totally right. and its not like east asians werent bringing this shit up back then either lol the fandom just didnt give a shit bc they wanted to talk about how much keith liked/knew about kpop or whatever. the amount of fic i read that had keith listening to or explaining kpop to others was concerning and gross honestly...theres really no excuse for homogenizing east asians like this, stop it
