We left early this morning on a bus headed west for Kissamos Port where we boarded a ship and cruised to Balos Lagoon and Gramvousa Island. Balos Lagoon is famous for the stunning clear waters and aqua blues of the lagoon. We spent a few hours on the beach, waded in the water, and ate a picnic lunch on the rocky beach. After boarding the ship again, we cruised 2 miles northwest to Gramvousa Island. Gramvousa is famous for it’s historical Venetian fortress, which stands at a height of 137m over the beach. The fortress had also been used by pirates; legend tells that there is a great treasure buried on the island. We all hiked up to the fortress, which was about a mile hike, and quite steep and rocky. The beach and waters on Gramvousa were also very beautiful, although our hike and exploration robbed us of any beach time there. We boarded the ship, caught the bus, and arrived back in Chania at 7:00. Cleaned up, and off to a late dinner just down the street. We had wonderful pizzas, Greek and Diablo, and of course, a bit of house wine. 🍷
