An underrated moment from the novel is Pete speaking in his dialect to annoy Vegas who doesn't understand but instead of just cussing Vegas out he rants about Vegas being so handsome while Vegas is pissed that he doesn't have a clue on what is being said

Some people haven't read the novel and don't want to because they're uncomfortable, but they're curious about these scenes so here is the moment in question.

"Hey! What did you just say?!"

"I said I'm handsome." Vegas turned to glance at me. My face was more annoyed than before.

"Yeah, you're handsome. You're really handsome, charming, and dashing. You're so handsome I could cry. So handsome. What did your parents feed you to become so handsome that it's creepy? How did you become this handsome, huh?" I said in the Southern language.

Vegas shook his head and looked at me tiredly before pulling my head to kiss me by the forehead. Then he grabbed his car keys and walked out of the room.

Genre romance, bias, and Kinnporsche

I know I'm asking for it, but I feel like I have to get this off my chest.

The bias against the romance genre is one of the constant elements across all media that I consume and Kinnporsche: The Series is no exception. Kinn and Porsche are given a classic romance arc, complete with a meet cute, the end of act crisis, incoming black moment and resolution. And yet, despite the series being marketed as a mafia romance people are still out here complaining about...the romance? Like, did they not get the memo that they are watching...a high concept romance between Kinn and Porsche set in a mafia world? Do they realize romance has conventions like any other genre that need to be followed? If viewers came for the mafia stuff and were disappointed by the lack of gore, angst and trauma wrt the main couple, and are rebelling against the fluff that KP has been serving up, it might simply be that they are shopping in the wrong genre.

I realize a lot of the blame for the disparity between expectation and what the show delivered is also the fault of the novel, which did a piss-poor job of, well, basically everything except for the plot (which, together with the sex scenes, is why I suspect it became so popular despite its numerous and egregious defects). However, the show does a phenomenal job of taking the best elements of the novel and leaving the chaff on the cutting room floor.

Even with this fact in mind, the novel itself is presented as a romance and though it has some moments of grit, it doesn't make it any less of a romance. As such, the romantic elements, including the fluff and showing the couple being in love, are strong because that's kind of the point. It's a convention of the genre to show the reader/viewer why the two love interests should be together. The only way to do that is to show them in full, unabashed love. And that's going to include fluff, sex, and even the kind of rom-com humor that is, coincidentally, also a part of Thai storytelling conventions as well.

We should be grateful because Kinnporsche actually does something very clever, reserving the classic romance arc for KinnxPorsche, while serving up dark romance with VegasPete (very well done, I might add) and even giving us a little traditional BL/yaoi fix with KimxChay. There really is something for everyone, and they manage to make it work.

So when I see people complain about the fluffier elements of Kinnporsche, all I can think is, how do you say you hate romance without saying you hate romance?

When Vegas runs after Gun’s death, in the novel, Pete remembers two things:

Vegas telling him that he knows that Pete will never choose him over his responsibility to the main family

His tattoo: No legacy is so rich as honesty

And then he does what Vegas didn’t believe. He chooses Vegas over the main family. Because the legacy of staying with them would mean nothing if Pete remained dishonest to himself and his true feelings.

While the show did truly everything better for VegasPete than the novel (reading their chapters was actually pretty distressing) and this scene was incredibly impactful overall - because we see Pete struggle to make this decision, we see him accept his feelings for Vegas - the connection to the tattoo was honestly pretty cool so I sort of missed it.

We should have had Vegas asking: “Did you get injured? Did anyone do anything to you? Pete, If you want me to die, then I’ll die.’’ 

We should have seen Pete punching the ground instead of Vegas’ face, because when he saw Vegas’ eyes staring him weakly, he couldn’t punch him further.And we should have had Vegas grabbing his fist and putting his hand up, because he couldn’t stand Pete getting injured because of him. 

We should have had Vegas asking: “Pete? have you ever loved me? I want you to stay with me for a long time. Even if you won’t forgive me, I’m happy just seeing you every day from far away.’’

We should have heard Pete’s thoughts or words: “I am the defendant of him. I have no choice. I need to survive. I just want Vegas to be comfortable. To lighten whatever he is carrying now.”

We should have had Vegas crying to Pete: “Even if you choose your role, you’d never choose me!’ and Pete yelling at him: “I’m not going to leave you Vegas, fuck you!’’

We should have had Pete answering: “No matter how hard I tried to escape, I would follow you wherever you go.To the edge of the world. To the bottom of the ocean.’’ 

We should have watched this scene, above, taking place in the hospital, while Vegas was unconcious with Pete taking care of him. Telling him: “You have to hurry and wake up because I miss you so much... I’m almost crazy because the doctors don’t have any answer for me....I’m heartbroken....The more I ran away- the more I missed you.The more I wanted to forget- the more I yearned for you. I want to be with you forever.’’

We should have had Pete waiting for him to wake up for this one month, whispering to him: “Wake up, I want to eat southern food... You don’t love me anymore? How could you let someone you loved waiting for so long?... Open your eyes Vegas. Even just one, I’m ok with it! Im lonely... Wake up or I ll really look for a wife!’’...“Im afraid that if I take my eyes off you and you don’t hear my voice, you’ll think that you’re alone again and Im here.’’

We should have had Vegas finally waking up, asking Pete why is he crying and if someone bothered him or if he is hungry, or what does he want. 

We should have had Vegas asking him “Pete, you’re really going to leave me. Are you?’’ and Pete answering ‘’I promise that whenever you open your eyes, today, tomorrow or any other day, I’ll be right here Vegas.My whole life till my last day.’’

Well...Now we kinda have :) 

I hope we also get to see little Venice in S02. 

And the Christmas Specials. And Pete’s grandparents. And so much more.

There's something very comically tragic about how Vegas treats Pete as his boyfriend while he's holding Pete captive. The way Pete is stressed over Vegas' behavior, bored of spending the whole day alone in Vegas' room and how he's trying his best to annoy Vegas into letting him go contrastes the romantic relationship Vegas sees between the two of them in a really astonishing way.

I mean really, Pete is always calling Vegas to annoy him and distract him while Vegas just sees that as Pete missing him, because Vegas misses him and would rather stay in his room with Pete instead of working or going to school. He believes Pete is just playing when he's annoyed about Vegas kissing his head or his face whenever he arrives or leaves the room. He wants to play the guitar and sing for Pete as his way of flirting, he likes to tease Pete, watch movies and have dinner with Pete as if they are a regular couple in completely normal circumstances.

No matter the fact that Pete acts out like a brat (to push Vegas away), Vegas laughs it off and legitimately thinks it's cute that Pete is so playful, as if Pete is just a grumpy boyfriend wanting attention. And it's funny, even more because the more Pete tries to annoy him the more Vegas shows how smitten he is, and he does everything to please Pete, whether is answering crazy questions Pete comes up with or leaving the house in the middle of the night to go buy food for Pete.

We sort of have a glimpse of what Vegas could be like under normal circumstances. The thing is, they aren't under normal circumstances. Pete is captive and every day he's trying to think of a way to be released or to run away. He does lost his track of things and starts to develop feelings for Vegas without realising and the two of them actual act like a couple while they are in fact captor and captive.

I think it becomes sad -- hence the comically tragic idea -- towards the end, when Pete thinks their whole relationship is a manipulative stunt by Vegas in order to make Pete need only him. It's cruel because that's what's logical, but you have Vegas' POV and you know he actually loves Pete. When Pete becomes jealous of Vegas' friends and Vegas comes home late, that's all Pete needs to go down a spiral of thoughts that Vegas is just messing with him, acting like a boyfriend when Pete is just a toy to him.

He hasn't resisted Vegas in a while because he thought it might help him survive if he doesn't fight Vegas. But Vegas made him believe there was something there. And that's because there is. He turns on Vegas and Vegas is confused! He actually thinks Pete is going insane over him getting home late because he was out with friends, and he can't understand that Pete is on his limit because he's being held captive.

Because Vegas actually sees Pete as a boyfriend and not as his captive anymore. And that's so absurd it becomes comic, but is also so incredibly sad that he believes their relationship could develop ordinarily while Pete is in chains living in his bedroom.
