major novel spoilers for the war between saints and demons below
Something about Heewon’s (huiwon but im more familiar with fan translation spelling so) transformation into the judge of the apocalypse hits a very emotional note for me. Of course it comes at a moment of desperation, hyunsung is dead (presumably), she’s alone against demon lords she can’t possibly hope to defeat, and everything the company has been working to is amounting to nothing in the wake of their enemies collaborating against them. But the way the Heewon looks at the constellations of good denying her request for hour of judgement against enemies of absolute evil, trying again and again even as they turn her backs on her with each attempt, and her entire soul goes “no, i refuse to accept this.” Heewon has always been a person who had seen some of the worst sides of people and blossomed her ability to fight those kinds of scumbags, both for vengeance and because that’s just the person she is, helping out everyone she can. That Heewon looks at the betrayal, the absolute breakdown of justice, and says “If the system of absolute good is going to betray me, then I don’t need it to declare if my judgement is valid.” Her stigma evolving into one that needs nothing more than the approval of her companions for her to exercise judgement on her enemies, its such a beautiful continuation of the story of kim dokja’s company vs the world. And if the entire world needs to face her judgement in order for her companions to be safe, then on god Heewon is going to do it.
