New Kauai Fishing Charter - Apex Charters - Hawaii

I knew that my neighbor, Paul, LOVED to go fishing (I have been the beneficiary of some of his catch). But, I was still surprised when he told me he was buying a boat and starting a Kauai fishing charter called Apex Charters. The refurbishing of the boat was not quite ready when my family wanted to go fishing last July, but, lucky for you, it is now.

One of the largest fishing charter boats on Kauai, his beautiful boat, "Grander," is a 45-foot Bertram Sport Fisher. It is docked at Kauai's largest harbor, Nawiliwili Harbor, just a five minute drive from the Lihue Airport. The Grander features a 14-foot Fly Bridge with a cushioned bench and guardrail; perfect for watching sunrises, seabirds, dolphins and whales. There is an indoor salon with couches as well. The bathroom is downstairs.

On the main deck, this Kauai fishing charter offers custom rods, top-of-the-line reels, proven lures and a state-of-the-art fighting chair; all designed to help you catch plenty of fish in the most "productive big game waters on earth." Depending on the season, you may find yourself catching tuna, mahi-mahi, ono (wahoo), blue marlin, striped marlin, spearfish (hebi) or sailfish. Grander is also equipped with bottom fishing gear to catch snapper, trevally, barracuda or even shark.

I asked Paul to tell us why he started this endeavor:

"Fishing has always been my favorite hobby for as long as I can remember. I first moved to Kauai 10 years ago and it was only weeks into my move that I had my first fishing adventure. I had not done that much big game fishing by this point in my life, but this trip would change my life. After about an hour of driving around with some newly made friends, we had one of our lines go down, and absolutely start peeling from the reel. I grabbed the rod and fought this fish for 30 minutes, and low and behold, it was a beautiful 50lb Mahi-Mahi. I had never caught anything so big, and had so much fun doing it. I couldn’t believe what I had just experienced, and I was hooked!

As the years went one I always wanted to start my own Fishing Charter Company on the island so that I could share with others this amazing experience. I had been on the wait-list for my commercial permit for over 6 years, until low and behold, my name finally came up! I was finally able to start my company and my dream had come true! Every since that day I have been putting my heart and soul into providing the best fishing experience on the island. From having one of the largest fishing boats, the best equipment and gear, the most skilled team, and most importantly the best customer service on the island, we have grown and continue to be successful. There is nothing that makes me happier than watching my guests experience that same feeling I had that first time fishing on Kauai. I hope everyone has that opportunity when they visit Kauai!"

Kauai Fishing Charter Information - Apex Charters

The Apex "Catch Policy" is as stated on their website:

"Our most important priority is that you have an amazing experience, and we will always send you home with fish! While most charter boats have limits to weights of fish, and will not share anything over 25 lbs, not here, with Apex Charters you will always get fish. We will send you home with enough fish for you and your family to enjoy while you are on your trip to Kauai. On Shared Charters, everyone will take home fish whether you were the one that caught or not. Our most important rule, is that everyone always leaves happy!"

Besides the fishing gear provided, safety equipment and a cooler with water and soda is on board. Feel free to bring your own snacks and/or lunch. Beer is welcome.

Age and Medical Requirements:

"Our waters off of Kauai can be a little bumpy year round. We recommend ages 10+ for our charters. If you have kids younger please call and we can discuss conditions for the day of your trip. Please call us to discuss any medical condition."

Rates:

Private Charters - 1 to 6 guests

4 hour - $750 Total

6 hour - $950 Total

8 hour - $1250 Total

Shared Charters - 4 to 6 guests

4 hour - $175/person

6 hour - $250/person

8 hour - $350/person

Cancellation Policy:

"Credit Cards are required to reserve your Charters. If you give us 48 hours or more notice, you will be fully refunded. Within 48 hours there with be a 50% charge, and if you cancel within 12 hours of your charter, or no-show the morning of, you will be fully charged. If Charter is cancelled due to weather, then you will be fully refunded."

It is a good idea to book your adventure prior to arrival as this Kauai fishing charter fills up fast. Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time for a safety briefing. Morning departures are at 5:45 AM, and afternoon departures leave at 10:45 AM.
