Johnny Cage is dead. Took three bullets at theback of his head — his brains turned to liquid mush, grey matter spilled downhis back like thick, gooey gravy. He can’t hear her anymore, but Sonya’sscreaming next to him. He can’t feel it but she’s grasping at him, turning himover, and his eyes are upturned white beneath drooped eyelids, his mouth wideand slack.

And Kano laughs — laughs and claps. Good show!Good show…

*:･ﾟ❤️┇Cassie’srelayed her rendez-vous orders when suddenly she lifts her head from herelectronic tablet, looking about like a dog who’s just heard a whistle pitchedtoo high for human ears to capture. Then she feels it: a crosswave of vibrationon the inside, something like a snake curling around her vertebrae. Suddennausea. The world swirling.

❝Uh — I don’tfeel so good…❞, she comments, takes a few steps backward, finds herself havinga whole new relationship with gravity, toppling back — before being rescuedfrom the ground by a pair of hands catching her before the end of the fall. Hersenses, confused, seem to heighten and shut down at quick intervals, an insideswitch being poked on and off and on and off. Through hazy vision, she glancesupward at her rescuer — finds it to be Master Hasashi — he’s speaking but hiswords make no sense to her, jumbled syllables interlaced together and muddlingher perception. Furthermore, he sounds as though he’s speaking from beneath troubled waters,muted yet still just barely audible.

And thenher thoughts are suddenly very clear; crystal — and she’s surprised by herdetachment; the acceptance is comforting, the arms supporting herencouraging a sense of intense relief, there she feels safe: because Cassandraknows, knows with knifelike certainty that one of her younger parents, or both,have died, that she wasn’t fast enough rescuing them. Raiden had warned of theconsequences, the effects of failure — doesn’t matter now. Not anymore.

There is nopain, she realizes, and that seems unreal — although there’s a feeling of wantingto fly now, float away, an explosion from within, a drug, and she is soon tobecome an addict.

HanzoHasashi is still talking, she realizes. She wonders what he’s saying. But shelikes the sound of his voice regardless, deep and honeyed, even in his concern.It grounds her. So she smiles, soft spread of pink lips. Everyone she’s caredfor is gone, she reckons, everyone save one…

She doesn’thave a funny remark to add, no quip, not this time. Doesn’t even have it inherself to be angry. Instead, she says: ❝Hey — find a star for me, okay?❞ Andbecause she doesn’t have much time, she does the next best thing: what she’dthought about doing for a while now but never conjured the courage; there isnothing left to lose now — lifting herself with what remaining strength shepossesses, Cassie hooks her hand around the back of Hanzo’s neck, then her lipsfind his, a soft, trembling kiss, so warm, gentle through which she feels hisheartbeat because she cannot hear anything anymore, gone deaf, so it’s all shehas left… Into the kiss there’s that sensation of soaring all over again,stronger now, inevitable — her bodyshimmers in the sunlight, sand crystals forming about her skin, through herpores; she tastes like the ocean for that one moment before she becomesweightless, and the shape of her collapses into the sands of time….
