Rail minister flags off full span launcher for Bullet Train project, India makes it to select group of nations | India News
Tumblr media
NEW DELHI: As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi walked to the Vaishno Devi shrine on Thursday, it was his 11th pilgrimage in 10 years, from Vindhyachal to Vaishno Devi. But the Congress' political fortunes are not reviving since the election debacle of 2014. Rahul Gandhi told reporters, "I have come here to offer prayers to Mata and I don't want to make any political comments." He had travelled to Vindhyachal, Kashi Vishwanath in 2015, Kedarnath in 2016, to Hanuman Garhi in Ayodhya in 2017, Somnath and Jagannath Mandir during the Gujarat Assembly polls, Mahakal in 2018, Tirupati Balaji in 2019, Kamakhya Temple in 2021 and now to Vaishno Devi. He had also gone to Kailash Mansarovar in 2018 after completing the election tour in Karnataka and claimed to be a Shiv Bhakt. While the Bharatiya Janata Party has attacked Gandhi and said that it's token Hindutva, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala asked why the BJP gets upset when Rahul Gandhi walks to the shrine... if the Prime Minister wants to go, Rahul Gandhi will give a helping hand. The Congress leader has often been on pilgrimages but his critics say that the Congress' fortunes are not reviving politically ever since the party's electoral defeat in 2014. The party has lost two consecutive general elections and polls in states where it was in power. It lost elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Puducherry and Assam. In 2018, it could win three states ruled by the BJP -- Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh -- but the government in Madhya Pradesh fell after the rebellion of Jyotiraditya Scindia. Now it has governments only in Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and is part of a coalition in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu. Apart from electoral losses, Rahul Gandhi faced rebellion within the party as a group of 23 leaders in the Congress wrote to the party's interim president Sonia Gandhi and demanded an effective and visible leadership in the party. Many leaders close to Rahul Gandhi left the party, including Scindia and Jitin Prasada, while Sachin Pilot revolted only to come back. Source link Read the full article

So here is my much awaited post on my trip to the most beautiful yet least explored region of Northeast India – Arunachal Pradesh. I’m happy I chose this place for my 9-day travel in April 2017 and honestly there is so so much to write which is why I have decided to dedicate a couple of posts to this series. In this post, I have just succinctly outlined the highlights of the circuit I undertook and this post is ‘PART 1’ of the 2 on ‘UNEXPLORED ARUNACHAL’
Hello North-East! Arunachal Pradesh (AP) – A Brief Trivia.
Arunachal Pradesh is the far Northeastern-most state in India and largest of all the seven Northeastern states fondly called the ‘Seven-Sisters’. The name Arunachal Pradesh translates into the ‘Land of Dawn-lit’ Mountains as it receives the first rays of the sun and is India’s very own ‘Land of the Rising Sun. This place is also referred to as the ‘Orchid State of India’ as it is home to India’s only Orchid Research Centre & largest Orchidarium (covered in this post). AP is surrounded by magnificent snow-capped Himalayan Mountains, perfect valleys, beautiful landscapes and shares its borders with China, Bhutan and Myanmar.
Tumblr media
Due to its geographic proximity to Tibet/China, you can find a strong presence of Military in this region and as a regulation, everyone is required to obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Arunachal Pradesh and YES, EVEN INDIANS need a permit too which can be arranged at any state border checkpoint entering AP or by contacting any local travel agent. Or you can get it yourself on the official website here (http://arunachalilp.com/).
My 9-day Journey: ‘Tezpur-Bhalukpong-Bomdila-Dirang-Tawang Circuit’!
My trip was a great mix of camping, trekking, wildlife/bird-watching, Buddhism, touring and feeling utterly proud & patriotic as we covered sensitive places like ‘Bumla Pass’ (Sino-Indo border/Mac Mohan line) ‘Pakke Tiger Reserve’ and ‘Eagle-Nest Forest’ along with Buddhist Monasteries and other tourist places. It was my first solo bag-packing trip where I joined a bunch of like-minded travel enthusiasts who I met only at Guwahati Airport and as they say, if you really seek something with a sincere heart, it comes to you. My travel buddies were 5 super vibrant women who were achievers in their own different fields and 1 very passionate experienced traveller who has made his passion for travel, his profession and had arranged for this trip. We were one perfectly matched crazy bunch who had soo much fun that I couldn’t have asked for better company!
Day 1 Tezpur, Assam – In air, On Wheels! ..and everything in between! (incl. Kamakhya Devi Temple)
I deliberately took a morning flight from Mumbai to Assam’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Guwahati, to allow me sometime to pay a quick visit to the much spoken about mysterious ‘KAMAKHYA TEMPLE’ which was 17 km (about 40 mins) from the airport. True to my expectation, it was truly magical to see people worshipping a menstruating and bleeding goddess with the place bathed in colour red depicting menstrual blood.
After offering my prayers & soaking in the supernatural of the place, I joined my squad back at the airport and set off in Tata Sumo which was to be my humble companion for next 9 days and drove straight to Bhalukpong in Arunachal Pradesh via Tezpur with our local driver.
We stopped to grab a bite where the menu presented a different tribe of meat-eaters by offering delicacies made out of PIGEON MEAT!! YOU BET!! I was equally surprised but couldn’t muster enough courage to try it out, but others did and they say it was nowhere close to our regular lean or red meat; in fact, there was hardly any meat.
Can you believe this. Pigeon Meat!!
Pigeon Fry
As we were headed onward, our hearts filled with silent prayers as we were crossing the naxal-prone area after dusk and safely reached Bhalukpong (so to say) after almost 7 hrs of drive, where we stayed for the night at this lovely small hotel called ‘Mandal Ghang’ and called it a day post home-like dinner cooked by the hotel staff.

Room with a view of Pakke Tiger Reserve in the background across the river
Day 2 Bhalukpong – Pakke Tiger Reserve, Tippi Orchid Research Centre, Local Market.
We started for ‘Pakke Tiger Reserve’ which is an evergreen forest located in East Kameng district for which we crossed the Kameng river on a tiny canoe-like boat to get on the other side.
All Set to meet the Tigers!!
Pakke on the other side
We were strictly told to be bathed and not to wear any kind of scent or perfume for this trip as we were allowed a walking trek in the jungle full of tigers & other wild animals. We trekked with 2 armed guides, (one of which happily brought along his wife, also a forest officer, and their kid daughter) for about 6 kms to reach the 1st check-post where we were served the local ‘Salt Tea’ made by the rangers and spent some quiet time amidst the light drizzles of rain.
1st Forest Post
Cossing the Stream
Local Salt Tea
We went further in the forest in an open jeep as walking tour was not allowed beyond this point where the forest kept getting denser. We spotted some exotic flora & fauna and experienced all climatic cycles from chilly thunderstorm, heavy rainfall to hot summer sun all in those 6 hours.
Arduous 7 km Jungle Trek
THERE IT IS!!
Delicious Stream Water..
Though we spotted no tigers as we were on foot and apparently made noise (7 GIRLS, IMAGINE!!), on our way back we read a sign-board which read “DON’T WORRY IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE TIGERS, THEY HAVE SEEN YOU” was enough to send a chill down our spines and make it worth-while. We savored on the freshly picked ‘Outenga’ fruit which is local to this region and apparently loved by the Elephants.
Outenga Tree
Couldn’t Stop trying the Outenga Fruit
Our Hotel in the background
Sadly we also learnt that this area is at a constant threat from poachers who circle the area with malicious intentions of hunting down wild animals and tree logging.
Rest of the day was spent on the pebbly banks of the Kameng river and visiting Tippi Orchid Research Centre, the only one of its kind in India, where we saw many different varieties of orchids.
Whats in the water..
Orchidarium
Revered Orchids
We later explored the local Bhalukpong market and shopped for some woolens & souvenirs. One can find quite stylish and trendy stuff here as I noted that the young class are well groomed & fashionable. The meals for the day were at our hotel where the staff prepared the yummiest and simplest food using local ingredients. The people of this region are very kind, humble, super friendly and adorable, always ready to help with a smile 🙂
Day 3 Eagle-Nest – Forest Camping & Trekking (2 days)
We set off for Eagle-nest early morning and on our way came across beautiful vistas, small river streams and wire bridges where we stopped for a quick photo opp and to soak in the place. We stopped at a small dhaba for breakfast, next to the famous Nag Mandir, which is a revered place for the followers of Nag Devta and savored on Tea & our beloved Maggi and my fellow traveller feasted on Pork Roast Curry, which according to her was out of this world.
The super cute dogs are known to be not very friendly. Beware!
Poser!
Nag Mandir
By noon, we reached EAGLENEST, a highly protected and important forest site of India, also known as the Mecca of birders. Located closer to the Chinese Border, Eaglenest is a thick dense evergreen rainforest located in the Himalayan foothills which was then covered in thick fog cloud when we arrived. It requires certain permits from the authorities to enter because it is a protected site as it houses some of the rarest and exotic endangered bird species of the Indian sub-continent and the world; which we were very indeed very lucky enough to spot.
Tumblr media
BTW, the name eagle-nest has nothing to do with eagles or their nests, the place in fact got its name from the Red Eagle Unit of the Indian Army which was posted here in mid 1900s.
After submitting our permits, we drove for 3 hrs going deep in the heart of the forest on a narrow, ever-winding and rugged terrain covered in fog with Rhododendrons shrubs, footmarks of giant wild elephants and small waterfalls welcoming us. We had our share of adventure when our car got stuck midway in deep muck thankfully pulled out by the will and strength of us strong girls B-)
Dreamlike Journey
Power-puff Girls!
We were now deep inside the forest which looked like nothing I had ever seen and had absolutely no access to the outside world, except my Airtel network which I managed to get after some fancy yoga postures. Thankfully the mist settled soon after we arrived at our camp which was our home for the next 2 days. There are only 2 official camp sites at Eagle nest – Bompucamp & Lamacamp located on either sides of the forest; we stayed at the Bompu Camp.
NETWORK!
Property
Bompu Camp
Camps equipped with comfortable beds with clean linen and small solar lights.
When we arrived..
To my pleasant surprise, the hospitality we experienced in such a remote location, miles deep in a forest, was unmatchable. The local boys who worked here were so kind and available to cater to any smallest of our need. We set-off late afternoon for a quick forest trail with an experienced birder to spot some exotic birds, flora & fauna and returned before it was too dark to the most sumptuous 3-course meal prepared at the camp by the boys. I found their attention to detail rather cute as they served small dairy-milk bars for dessert and arranged basic milk powders, tea & coffee sachets to the likes we find in hotel rooms. It was then time for some star gazing before we retired to our basic yet comfortable camps.
Day 4 was dedicated to bird-watching and we started our forest trek as early as 6 am equipped with our binoculars and cameras. Needless to say, we heard and spotted some most exotic birds including the Rufous Necked Hornbill resident of this region and many others. Sadly I was only using my Samsung note-4 phone for the pictures that could not capture the perched birds (guess it’s time to upgrade now!!).
Beautiful Forest Trail
Sign of a Healthy Thick Forest
I can see it
Our guide along with disseminating ornithological information, taught us forest survival techniques along with giving us some handy tips and even made us eat some fresh off-the-forest fruits, stems and leaves (…and gladly I lived to write this post!).
Spotted the Hornbill
Picnic in the middle of a forest
Edible Stem
Forest Trail
City people will find peace like no other here where the only sound one can hear is that made by the birds and it is not your regular chirping we hear every day but the most exotic and unusual melodies and different types of bird calls unheard before, some almost like rhythmic song tunes; and having a highly experienced birding guide to identify the birds and their calls just added to the experience. I did not know I had a hidden birder inside which came to life post this excursion. After a fulfilling day, we headed back to our camp and played a quick cricket-sports match with the care-taking boys and hiking around the property. After our dose of exercise, we climbed atop a little hill on the premises and amidst the prayer flags, experienced the most beautiful sunset from above the clouds followed by some happy conversations over simple yet yummiest 4-course dinner.
Bliss
Cheers to the Hospitality!
How about a forest Cricket Match
Thereafter we gazed at the bright star-lit sky which was surreal as there was absolutely no source of light anywhere after sunset except for the dining area dimly-lit by a small bulb and bathrooms which were rather basic yet clean. The overall Eagle-Nest experience was absolutely dreamlike and one feels soo deeply rooted, connected and absorbed in nature that words can never ever express.
Day 5 Bomdila (…cont in my next post: ‘Why you should visit Arunachal Pradesh at least once in your life – UNEXPLORED ARUNACHAL – PART- 2’)
Part 2 of my trip was more spiritually and patriotically inclined as we covered all the Buddhist places hereafter moving closer to the Chinese border all the way up to the Bumla-Pass (undefined Indo-Chinese border) with a visible concentration of Indian Army. Amazing stories on war, peace & Buddhism to tell, please do follow my next post ‘UNEXPLORED ARUNACHAL PRADESH – PART 2’ 🙂
Why you should visit Arunachal Pradesh at least once in your life (Unexplored Arunachal – Part 1) So here is my much awaited post on my trip to the most beautiful yet least explored region of Northeast India - Arunachal Pradesh.

City of Temples- Guwahati Tour
Guwahati has gained a significant amount of recognition thanks to the old temple of Kamakhya Devi and the magical experiences that can be had there. The city is home to a large number of temples, each of which will pique your interest in its own special way if you want to visit them. In addition to this, the city is well-known for the gorgeous environment it maintains and the lively getaways it provides. One of the cities in India that is expanding at one of the fastest rates is Guwahati, which is also the largest city in both the state of Assam and the Northeast. Guwahati is sometimes referred to as the "city of temples" since there are so many ancient temples that can be found in and around this area. Guwahati's location at a moderate height of 910 meters above sea level makes it a good site for hill stations since it provides a moderate atmosphere with a very limited temperature range and a nice climate. since Guwahati's location, hill stations in the surrounding area may benefit from Guwahati's location. Because of this, hill stations will find it to be an appropriate location. Assam is home to the beautiful city of Guwahati, which has a breathtaking setting atop a hill in the state's northeastern mountain ranges. Guwahati can be found in the state of Assam. The Smart City plan's major focus is on anchoring and reorienting the city towards its natural advantages. The plan's ultimate objective is to build Guwahati into a world-class metropolis and a regional center servicing all of North East India. This will be accomplished by transforming Guwahati into a Smart City.
If you have any concerns regarding the informative and reasonably priced Guwahati tours we provide, please don't hesitate to get in touch with one of our helpful Trip Counselors.
