If you are going to grape picking in Kofu, there are many places to experience and see. One of them would be Kai Zenkoji temple that was built on the orders of the warlord Takeda Shingen in the 16th century as a storage place for Nagano’s Zenkoji temple’s Buddhist treasures. If you pay an entrance fee, you can go to the main altar area and do the “Kaidan Meguri” . You descend into a passage beneath the altar of the main statue of Amida Buddha which is shaped in the kanji character “心” (kokoro/spirit) .
