Monday

Sebastian hated his father, he truly hated him. He had been a tyrant ever since Seb was a little boy and he would probably never stop being a menace in his life. Still he couldn't help but always do whatever he demanded of him. Caesar had wanted that Seb go a job - so he had gotten a job. He had even gotten the exact job that Caesar had chosen for his great heir. Seb knew that he was just a disappointment for his father. But he was also disappointed in his mother Judith. It's been years since she stepped between her son and husband. It was like she was living in her own world ever since. He never saw his parents talking, much less exchange endearments. Sometimes Seb wondered if his love life was as crazy as it was because of the way his parents treated each other. Or the way they had treated him.

It was always a great relief for Sebastian when the deafening sound of his father's helicopter was to be heard from outside. This mean he was away for another trip.

Seb enjoyed the afternoons when he was home alone. But over the last couple of days he had noticed a strange lady roaming around the house. Sebastian: So, I want you to have a close eye on the front door. We can't know what this person is up to. She was armed with a broom. Maybe she's behind my father, who knows. I wouldn't mind him getting beaten by an old Lady, but I don't want reporters outside our house. Butler: Of course, Master Sebastian!

That evening Hadley suddenly stood in front of their house. It was a bummer that she had gotten pregnant, but he was sure this wasn't something that could be dealt with. Sebastian: Hey Baby! You never made your way up here. It's better, my parents don't lay eyes on you. Hadley: Actually, I'm not here for you, Seb. I want to talk to your father. Sebastian: My... my father? What is this about? Hadley: Is he at home?

Sebastian had a bad feeling about this, but he lead his lover to his father's private rooms and Caesar was ready to welcome her. Caesar: So my son told me your name is Hadley Wentworth and you want to see me? What is this about Miss Wentworth? Hadley: See Mr. Rafferty. I've been seeing your son for quite a while now and just so it happened, that I'm now pregnant, with twins, of all times too. Caesar: Stop, stop, stop. Who are you to just come to my rooms and tell me you're pregnant by my son. Doesn't he have the guts to tell this to me in person? Hadley: Apparently not, Mr. Rafferty. Look I'm afraid your son has other plans for me and our children, but I'm not willing to take his bullshit. I want him to marry me, make our children legitimate heirs of his. I don't care if he'll be faithful after marriage, as long as he doesn't expect the same form me, but I demand my place in your family. Caesar: How dare you demand such a thing of me? Am illegitimate child is no disgrace anymore and of course the twins will be considered in my will - should they really be Sebastian's! But you can't blackmail me with something stupid my son did. Hadley: Well, what if I tell you, that your son also banged my sister AND my mother? I'm pretty sure the press might be interested in THAT information. Caesar: He... what? I - give me a few minutes with my son please. Hadley: Now you're talking my language...

Hadley: Oi, Seb, your old man wants to talk to you! Is that bowl mac'n'cheese for me? I'm eating for three, you know?!

Some minutes later, Sebastian called Hadley back upstairs. Sebastian: Hadley, I know you are pregnant, but why did you ask my father to tell me to marry you? You know me, I'm not the person that does commitment. I promise I'll take care of you and the babies. If you want money- Hadley: I don't just want the money Seb. I want the status. I'm having your twins. Don't you think I deserve that?

Of course he thought that Hadley deserved it. Maybe she even was his favorite girlfriend. They could still be the same people after getting married. It wouldn't be that bad to have her and his children living with him. His mother wasn't getting any younger and having his own little family..? That didn't sound actually too bad. So he decided to go with the plan. Even if he had that nagging feeling of doing something terribly wrong.

Hadley: Good night Baby, I'm really exhausted now. I'll tell Momma you said Hi, okay?

The nagging feeling of doing something terribly wrong was going strong in Sebastian's head.

Emerald Heights, a blossoming desert town that recently connected to Simcity through a new highway campaigned for both by Daytona Beech and Caesar Rafferty. Money was flowing to all the tiny hamlets in the region, revitalizing the economy. It was a good time to pursue ambitions.

Judith knew all about pursing ambitions. Maybe a bit too much. Thirty years of being the perfect political wife and brilliant scientist, and yet, somehow, she couldn’t say where it all went wrong.

Fight after fight after fight. It seemed as time went on Caesar pulled more away from her, becoming more secretive. For a while things were fine, but after Sebastion was born, well, it seemed her “loving husband” no longer had any real need for her.

Hector has started a bit of a fling with the troubled Judith Rafferty - her husband sounds so horrible! He keeps telling her she should come live on the farm with him, but Judith feels too responsible for the city to take him up on the offer, however tempting.

Meanwhile Fr. Theo gets to know his son, and Briana takes matters into her own hands and decides to propose to him. I’ve had her date about a bit but she still rolls wants for Theo constantly... I guess the heart wants what it wants! He moves onto the farm and brings Daisy along with him.

Grace and Donna sneak out for a late night date and their relationship goes from a borderline affair to a full-on affair.

A new musical comedy focusing on lives of six characters and one fateful night at the bingo.

Bingo! tours Scotland in March and April 2018.

Every week more than 2 million women pour into local bingo halls across the UK, each one hoping that all elusive HOUSE will change their fortunes forever. Daniella’s one of those women. Except she isn’t just hopeful. She’s desperate. She needs Lady Luck to smile down on her tonight. She’s done a bad thing. No, a really bad thing and if her card doesn’t have those winning numbers, she’s going to have to resort to desperate measures to take home that prize money.

What was the inspiration for this performance?

A: We were commissioned by Stella Quines and Grid Iron to write a play/ musical about Bingo. So that was out starting point. Then we just sat and talked and talked about what Bingo meant to us and our associations with it and then developed our story and characters from there.

Is performance still a good space for the public discussion of ideas?

A: Totally. There’s nothing nicer hearing audiences leave a theatre and be in debate or arguments over what they’ve just seen. It starts conversations.

J: Theatre transports you in a way I don't think TV or cinema does. The sweat is there in front of you, the live experience has jeopardy, anything can (and sometimes does) go wrong. I think that intensity of watching cant help but make you think and feel on a deeper level, with that comes discussion, debate, rage, empathy.

How did you become interested in making performance?

A: For me I wrote as I needed to be able to create work on my own (having been an actor for 20 years) and relying on other people to give me work. Also I was of an age that I felt I needed to try something new and terrifying. Which it was and still is.

J: It became a necessity for me. I was cast in quite a few camp light parts when I graduated. I decided I'd do my own camp instead. It started with devising in a group but, after a while, that started to feel like a compromise to what I wanted to say or investigate (or maybe I just got more anti-social as I got older!?!?)

Is there any particular approach to the making of the show?

A: We both know one another really well so approaching this show was lots of chatting and story sharing and we begun with characters and then put them in a scenario we thought they’d work well in. The story changed from first draft – but the characters remained the same…we just wanted in second draft to make life harder for them and see how they coped.

J: there was a lot of post-it notes. A lot of coffee. A lot of telling stories about people we knew and things that made us laugh. I think this was a completely different thing for us both, we've never written as a team with anyone else before, we're so used to being the solo voice. Surprisingly it took a lot of the angst and dread out of writing, that fear that can cripple you at times, it wasn't there for this one. It felt like you'd let the other person down if you weren't firing on and trying to make them laugh, or move them.

Does the show fit with your usual productions?

A: This is a first musical for me. A first at co-writing as well. I’ve loved working with Johnny but I think that comes from years of being pals we have a shorthand. I think the themes and the humour is quite similar to things we’ve explored before…but the story / music is different.

J: I think yes and no. Anita and me are good friends and we have a lot of similar tastes and view the world through similar lenses, so I think anyone familiar with either of our work will still see us indidually in the piece. However two minds can only be better than one so we've really looked at it from a hundred possible angles. Personally, working with another person has pushed me harder – make it funnier, brighter, shorter, be economical, fight for your ideas. Its like working with a dramaturg on your own material all the way through the process.

What do you hope that the audience will experience?

A: A good night out firstly. A tear too and to leave the theatre feeling they want to organise a night with their pals and go to the bingo!

J: I want them to fall in love with theatre, to forget its crap weather outside, to laugh with wild abandon, and to remember the power

With cracking original songs, a lot of banter and cheeky humour, Bingo! is co-written by Anita Vettesse & Johnny McKnight, with music by Alan Penman and directed by Stellar Quines’ Artistic Director Jemima Levick.

Cast of Bingo! includes stars of British stages and television such as Louise McCarthy (Daniella) of BBC’s Scot Squad and Two Doors Down, Wendy Seager (Mary) who played Susan inKilling me Softly and featured in Still Game, Barbara Rafferty (Joanna), star of River City, Brave New World, Rab C Nesbitt and The Last King of Scotland film, Jo Freer (Ruth) who starred in Dundee Rep’s Sunshine on Leith as well as River City, Darren Brownlie (Donny) known from Dundee Rep’s Witness for the Prosecution and BBC Scotland’s Scot Squad as well as Tron Theatre’s pantomime and Jane McCarry(Betty), Still Game’s Isa and Scottish pantomime star who also played Dolly in Tony Roper’s The Steamie and featured in Rab C Nesbitt.

Bingo! reflects the current state of affairs for many people living in the UK, for whom a visit to a bingo hall is both a night out and a financial plan. Brought to Scottish stages by two award-winning Edinburgh-based theatre companies: site-responsive specialists Grid Iron and Stellar Quines, who celebrate the diversity of women and girls, Bingo! promises to be a show that entertains and provokes.

Bingo! receives its world premiere at Assembly Hall in Edinburgh. The show then goes on tour to venues around Scotland, including Stirling, Ayr, Musselburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.

Jemima Levick, Artistic Director of Stellar Quines said: “As one of Scotland’s longest serving touring companies, Stellar Quines’ work is created to inspire women & girls, and the men that know them. We realise that women and girls come in different shapes and sizes and with a variety of tastes and expectations, so our programme of work aims to respond with broad appeal.

Every time I read Bingo! or hear it read aloud, I am reminded of just how brilliant women are. It’s a play about comradery, friendship, parenthood, and strength in numbers, but also about hope, and ‘that’ fantasy that we all have – of how our lives might change with that big win. It’s a play that never fails to take me by surprise, it makes me laugh and cry.

We are particularly delighted to be co-producing alongside our long-time colleagues, Grid Iron. It’s a collaboration that’s based on many of the qualities of this play, so we’re thrilled to be on that journey with them.”

Judith Doherty, Co-Artistic Director of Grid Iron said: “Grid Iron have been talking to Jemima about Bingo! for quite some time so, when she took over the helm at Stellar Quines, it seemed the perfect opportunity to bring together two Edinburgh companies who share a mission to provide strong roles for women on and off stage. Anita and Johnny have written a truly cracking script and I would bet on it that we’ll hear people humming Alan’s music as they head down the street after the show.

Although Grid Iron are best known for site-responsive work, this is far from the first time we’ve toured work for the stage and indeed, isn’t our first musical either. We’re really looking forward to taking Bingo! out on the road and are delighted to be travelling with Stellar Quines.”

Before work, Judith has a high visitor.

Caesar expected a letter himself, but was a little turned down when he found the name of his wife on the envelope. He didn't bother opening it though. Why should he? They both are grown ups.

Sebastian doesn't have much time left as a free man so he calls up Cecily for a special at home date. It's a shame Cecily is the age of his parents. He could be happy with her, she would suit him just right.

Cecily comes over instantly after her shift at the Restaurant.

Emerald Isle Bowls Club by Elwyn Morris On Sunday the Isle had a visiting team from Polton Scotland playing 4 rinks and in a very good game the visitors won all 4 rinks hopefully they will return next year The Emerald Isle hosted a home game on Wed against Vistabella in the winter league and they had a great 12-0 aggregate 100-69, winning rinks were P Coffey J Westall S Westall M Odell 24-10, D Jones M Whitelock J Mulloy J Rimmer 22-13, R White A Brown A M Stevenson D Gerrard 23-18, D Rhodes M Riley M Veale M Stacey 14-12, P Heaney S Johnson D Birkett I Brewster 17-16x3, The Berleen game was won by Emerald Isle 20-11, the rink was C Thomas B Doran M Thomas S Watson The Leprechauns completed the season with an away game at Vistabella where the home took all 3 rinks and the aggregate was 62-37. Well done the Leprechauns for sticking at in a tough league. Greenlands Bowls Club In the winter League we were away to San Miguel. Final score was - total shots for - 49. Against - 128. Points for - 0. against - 12. We achieved the same result in our Fed Four Match at home to Country Bowls, so final scores were - total shots for - 37. against - 54. Horadada Bowls Club by Barry Evans The last of this years Federated 4’s match was played away at La Siesta. Not a happy result as we went down by 35 shots to 71 and gained no points. However it has been quite a successful competition where we finished 2nd in the league. We have now completed most of our Club competitions and congratulations must go to all finalists, especially the winners who will go on and represent the Club at the Champions of Champions competition in April. The results were, Ladies singles Winner Margaret Odell, Runner-up Carol Linehan Mens singles Winner John Jukes, Runner-up Barry Evans Ladies pairs Winners Linda Hier and Carol Linehan Runners-up Judith Simpson and Irene Graham Mens pairs Winners John Jukes and Wayne Osguthorpe Runners-up Jeff Hier and Barry Evans Mixed pairs Winners Margaret Odell and Ron Odell Runners-up Irene Graham and Peter Davis Triples Winners Irene Graham, Alan Miller and Fred Trigwell Runners-up Linda Hier, Jeff Hier and Barry Evans The only competition left to play to qualify for the C of C is the Rinks which will be played on Wednesday along-side our internal Non-winners final. San Luis Bowls Club Report 16.03.18. Not the best of weeks unfortunately for some results, or weather (with sudden gusts of wind on Sunday, during the club semi-finals, blowing bowls, chairs, debris & mud around). The Federation 4’s leagues have now been completed and just 2 more Winter League matches to come, with a very close finish in prospect. Wednesday 14th Winter League away v Javea Green, a long journey, a hard battle and not the result we had hoped for; 2-10, close shots 78-86. Winners: Shirley Verity, Ray Clarke, Roy Cordell, Russell Marks 24-7. Javea are currently league leaders; with San Luis just 1 point behind. FED 4’s: Condors Tuesday 13th away v Monte Mar Lords, a good result; 6-2 shots 52-48. Winners: Sally Cordell, Mags Haines, Les Bedford, Mike Regan 20-11, Jan Pocock, Bill Webb, Barry Edwards, Brian Pocock 18-15. Congratulations to SAN LUIS CONDORS DIV B WINNERS! Thursday 15th March, Ospreys had a very close match away at San Miguel; 2-6, shots 47-52. Winners on the last end with a perfect draw shot, Margaret Morrison, Pam Lockett, Roy Cordell, Keith Jones 15-14. Bazas BYE. The new summer leagues start in two weeks time: VCL Friday 30th March to 27th June, and South Alicante triples league 9th April to 2nd July. The WINTER LEAGUE had their best result of the season winning 12 nil at home to Greenlands. In the Fed Fours, the APACHES were away against Quesada Leopards, with both teams needing the points to avoid being relegated. The APACHES needed to win one game, and Quesada needed to win all 3 games. The APACHES avoided going down by winning the one game needed. Well done to Jan Allen, Ken Hope, Allan Patterson, Alan Campbell, Well done. WASPS still on Wednesdays, but please note change of time as from 4th April when it will move to 1pm for 1.30 start. Well done to the Emerald Isle, two more matches to play and as we’re not going to win the league let’s just enjoy...but get a decent result!
