The plan was supposed to be fullproof, yet instead you found yourself catching even more emotions for the resident goofball.

It all began earlier that day when the announcement of the office party was shared throughout the building. Initially, you thought nothing of it, but then they mentioned how much money they put into it

Needless to say, when you heard your favorite fancy restaurant of choice was going to be providing catering you just had to go.

Though of course it wasn’t as easy as you’d like it to be. Dreadfully, you found out that you needed a date in order to attend this fancy office party. 

To you, it was a load of bullshit, but who were you kidding? A chance to eat delicious expensive food for free? You weren’t going to pass it up.

But the real question lied with, who were you going to go with? There were only a select few in the office that you felt comfortable with going with, yet before you could even really decide on anything Jaden waltzed straight up to your little cubicle. 

Bright and cheery with his carefree vibe, you find yourself sinking into fun jovial filled conversation with your crush. You don’t even realize that he managed to weasel you in to being his date for the office party.

Of course you’re surprised at first, but eventually you find yourself merely shrugging it off.

So here you are making some casual conversation with a couple of the other party goers, but you can’t help but feel a strange skip in your chest every time Jaden waltzes by as he casually drapes an arm around your waist. 

It wasn’t too bad, but it was made more prominent when he noted more guys taking the chance to make conversation with you. You merely shrug it off as him playing his role albeit too well

That of course changes when you’re caught under the mistletoe with someone other than him. It’s only when your co-worker leans in to kiss you that you find yourself suddenly dragged away but an oddly quiet and fuming Jaden.

Before you can even question his actions he’s kissing you fervently. It’s only after you regain your breath that you hear the words he says.

“...god I’m sorry...I know this was supposed to be pretend--- but I can’t pretend around you anymore. I...I like you (y/n), and seeing that guy almost kiss you just--- man I’m sorry I didn’t mean to ruin your night...”

Of course before he can say anything more you press another firm kiss against his lips. An endearing smile gracing your features as you pull him in close.

“Then let’s not pretend...let’s be official...”

You’re annoyed. Not only was your flight canceled, but you had to spend the remainder of the day in the airport until the horrendous snowstorm that swept the state went away. 

You had come to the airport early to not only try to beat your flight anxiety but to at least give yourself some ample time in catching up on a couple of mobile games whilst researching the newest and latest booster packs to add to your deck.

All of that was for naught as you found yourself heaving what seemed to be the tenth sigh within the past fifteen minutes. Yes, it was excessive, but you had spent quite a lump of money to fly home for the holidays. 

So instead, here you are seated near one of the cafe tables as the airport staff work their way in arranging rooms to stay in whilst the storm blows over.

It’s only when you’re briefly going through your deck that an unexpected fluff of head pops into your line of vision. His hair reminds you of that of a kuriboh as he excitedly sits before you.

You’re confused at first, but once he pulls out his own deck you can’t help but feel the beginnings of a new friendship begin to form as a makeshift duel made its way through the quaint cafe.

From that small duel, a miniature tournament began in the cafe, and the number of rounds you and the mysterious dueler-- now known as Jaden Yuuki-- had ended up wanting to re-duel you over and over again. Even if he lost or won.

Eventually, you find yourself having simple conversations with him from schooling to where you both were initially flying off to. Surprisingly, you find out that he’s heading towards your same destination thus invoking more curious questions that hopped freely out of your lips.

Soon enough you both had exchanged contact information. With giddy grins, you’re happy to conclude that you’ve found yourself a great new friend.

That soon turns awkward as you both end up having to share a room. Though awkward at first, Jaden does an incredible job and easing the atmosphere into that of a comfy and fun sleepover. A makeshift pillow fort and absentminded holiday movies playing in the background as you both not only shared strategies but traded cards.

It’s easy to say that by the end of the night you’re both cuddled up against one another snoring loudly. Arms loosely wrapped around one another to conserve warmth as the t.v. droned on with its classic holiday movies.
