One of the many reasons Chuck McGill resonated so much with me is that, as a mentally ill person, his experiences of being misunderstood or seen as off putting are quite relatable. Especially the threat of being institutionalized and everyone pretending you aren’t crazy while simultaneously thinking you indeed are crazy. He is an example of being mentally ill in a unpalatable way. He isolates and has a distrust of people close to him. He goes into spiels about his interests (the law) that alienate other people. He has an irrational compulsion (caused by his theorized OCD) that separates him from regular society. He is a great example of what it is like to be superficially accomplished, but on the inside have something deeply wrong with you that comes out in situations of distress (i.e. his wife living away from him and eventually divorcing him). I also believe even before his eventual suicide that he dealt with thoughts of harming himself, since it is not common to just offhandedly decide to end your life when things don’t turn out the way you wanted it. He is given accommodations, but it is mostly done out of either pity or ulterior motives. He shows what it’s like to be mentally ill in a way that inconveniences others. He has his grievances that takes out on those around him (mainly Jimmy). He is extremely flawed but in a way that is realistic and believable. This is one of the many core attributes to the complexity of Chuck’s character.

I always wanted to know the reason why Chuck and Rebecca lived separately leading up to their divorce… It makes it obvious things were not going well even before the dinner with Jimmy. I wonder what their relationship was actually like. Was it just not meant to be? Was there any altercations? Did something in their life just unfold? These are questions I wish I had the answers to.

Finished vbros season 4. I think the Shallow Gravy episode was a great way to end it and the episode is now my favorite since I am a sucker for band mocumentaries (the This is Spinal Tap and Metalocalypse effect).

Sucks that the only other people I know who have watched this is spinal tap are literal boomers. I am desperate to talk about this movie I have been obsessed since I watched it. Obviously, the reason I got into it was because Michael Mckean is in it, but what I got in return was a genuinely hilarious band mocumentary with a great soundtrack too. I wish there was some semblance of a fanbase. I NEED david x nigel yaoi so bad.
