1.
“Are you sure we should be doing this?” you whisper into Jake’s ear as he drags you along a corridor towards the hangar that contains his and the dagger squad’s F-18s.
“Definitely not, but I need you to see this.” Jake chuckles from in front of you.
That does nothing to settle the nerves in your stomach as he turns abruptly, hand still nestled in yours pulling you around the corner with him.
The ‘room’ Jake has pulled you into isn’t really a room at all. It’s a large Hangar with tall ceilings that make you fear that if you speak it will echo throughout the whole building. Jake looks down at you and smiles at your awestruck face.
“Welcome to my world sweets.”
You roll your eyes at his cheesy line and walk towards the jet that has Jake’s name plastered onto the side of it.
“Lieutenant Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin,” you read to yourself, tracing your fingers over the black lettering.
“My two girls in one room,” Jake chuckles into your ear, wrapping his arm around your waist. He strokes lightly against the material of your sundress. It’s his favourite one, it’s cream coloured and is covered in a ditsy floral pattern. He smiles as you look up at him,
“But who do you love more?” You giggle and wait for his response.
Jake clutches his chest dramatically and whines, “You’re not being fair! I can love two things equally.”
You pout playfully and jest, “Well you won’t mind sleeping in here with her then, will you?”
Jake laughs loudly and points out your bluff, “You’d never kick me out of bed, your feet would get too cold.”
You make a ‘hmph’ noise and turn on your feet to the exit of the hangar. Jake is quick on your tail and hauls you into the air forcing you to wrap your legs around his waist as you look up at him now face to face.
“Don’t be like that baby, you know you’re my favourite.” He simpers.
You giggle, “I know, I just like making you sweat.”
Jake squeezes your cheeks into a kissy face and pecks you on the lips, “You’re such a minx.”
Carrying you back towards his jet, he plants you down on the ground and finally reveals his plan to you.
“Jake what if i’m sick all over your plane then you hate me forever!”
“I’ll go slow for you sweetheart, I always do,” Jake winks at you.
You scoff, as he helps you into the back seat of his jet and plant yourself down in the seat. Before Jake gets the chance to sit down, you look around the interior of the jet and something catches your eye. In the cockpit there’s a few small Polaroids. Jake had always loved taking photos, he had a small Polaroid camera which he carried almost everywhere with him, and a stack of photos building up just of you. As you look to the photos you see one of them is of him and his two nieces sat in the grass on a sunny day, another of his family dog from back home and the last picture is one of you that you didn’t recognise. You’re curled into his chest with his hoodie on and you’re asleep with a pout on your face. You want to complain about the less than flattering angle but your heart flutters from the intimacy of the picture and you can’t feel it in you to be angry at all. Instead you hum slightly and reach forward to kiss Jake’s shoulder as he finally sits in the seat in front of you. He seems slightly bashful as he realises you’ve seen the pictures.
“For luck.”
You grin and decide not to prod him further. Taking off, your stomach swoops and you worry about the interior of Jake’s jet being covered in your dinner for a brief moment before your breath is taken away.
The sun is setting and Jake is flying the jet in the direction of the beach. You suddenly understand his insistence on bringing you up here. Jake thinks he’s cheesy so he doesn’t say it aloud, but whenever flight tests run late and the sun sets whilst he’s still in the sky he always thinks of you. It’s beautiful and the colours bleed together as the sun dips lower and lower and all he can think about is how much he wants to share this with you. So he did.
“Thank you for bringing me up here.” You speak into the microphone of the flight helmet you’re wearing.
“It’s my pleasure sweetheart.”
You look down and notice you’ve flown past the Hard Deck, it was a hard sight to miss and golden lights twinkle around it in the dusk. It’s mostly empty as Penny has closed it for the night, but you think you spotted the tiny blur of Maverick’s motorcycle in the parking lot.
Maverick and Penny are sat together on the benches that stand outside the Hard Deck on the beach front. Unbeknownst to you, Maverick had helped Jake plan to sneak you into base for your sunset joyride. He understood how important it was for Jake to show you the thing he loved so dearly. It was the same for him way back when with your aunt. Penny gasps as she looks up to see the jet soar by,
“Please tell me my niece isn’t up there.” She states rather than questions.
“Okay, I won’t then.” Maverick smiles into her shoulder.
She smacks him lightly but it lacks anger, Penny would never admit this but she was glad you had fallen for Jake rather than any of the others. She can’t help but smile back as she thinks about her first time up in a fighter jet with the pilot sat next to her. She wants to be worried but she knows you’re in perfectly safe hands, Jake’s charm and incredible skill always did remind her of someone who she knew so well.
2.
You and Jake had been together for two months now but he had yet to sleep round at yours. You were apprehensive, living with your aunt and younger cousin meant a lack of privacy mostly, and said privacy was not an issue when staying at Jake’s small rented beach cottage. So it had always seemed the obvious to go to his. Neither of you had ever had an issue with this, which is why Jake was so surprised to receive a text from you half way through his day off.
baby ♥️
come to mine tonight?
pen and amelia are out btw
You and Jake had planned for you to stay at his tonight, you’d promised to cook for him and he’d been hoping to thank you in many different ways and positions. But he couldn’t help but feel slightly giddy at the prospect of being able to stay round yours. He felt a bit like his 16 year old self again when his then girlfriend would invite him round with the promise of her parents being out of town and it made him chuckle.
cowboy ❤️
sounds perfect
you want me to cook?
baby ♥️
what type of host do you think i am ?!
ofc not
cowboy ❤️
just checking sweets
As it turns out, not much cooking happened anyways. Jake had decided your attire of denim shorts and a cropped tank top were entirely too indecent for an evening in and he decided to show that to you.
“Do you know what you do to me sweets?” Jake pants into your neck. You’d managed to persuade him to make it to your bed before you defiled the kitchen counter but half your clothing had been discarded up the stairs and across the landing leading to your room.
“I think I have a pretty good idea,” you giggle breathlessly, whining slightly as Jake hits just the right spot. He continues on at his impressive pace, your back arching up so your chests meet and he kisses sloppily down along your neck. His hands have a tight grip on your hips whilst yours tangle in his soft hair, it’s silky and feels smooth against your fingers without his gel that usually neatens it out.
“Shit, I’m close.” Jake groans into your neck. You squirm as his pace quickens further and he reaches down to circle your clit. You gasp, high pitched sending him over the edge. He spills into the condom and slumps onto you, breathing hard.
You stroke Jake’s hair and he speaks, “I love you.”
You smile at his admission, “I love you too, baby.”
He looks up at you from where his head is resting on your chest and your heart clenches. You surge forward and he pulls upright so you can clash your lips together messily, it’s sloppy mostly but neither of you care. He cards his fingers through the mess of hair at the back of your head and you whimper against his lips. The kiss is heated as Jake guides you back down against the pillow and starts to lead his lips down your throat, sucking with pressure into your pulse point.
That’s when you hear the front door slam shut.
“Darling? Are you home?” Your aunt calls.
You hear a mumbling of voices, Amelia is with her.
“Oh god,” You whine in to Jake’s chest, embarrassed.
He chuckles, rolling off of you to lay next to you, he’s finding the situation rather amusing until he realised all his clothes are strewn across the stairs where he can hear two sets of footsteps ascending.
“Whose shirt is this?” You hear Amelia ask her mother, confused about the item of clothing that appeared quite masculine and nothing anyone in her household of women would wear.
You yell out in a panic, “Uh yeah I’m in my room! Just getting changed.”
Jake looks at you concerned, as your aunt replies from seemingly outside of your door.
“Okay, well we’ll be downstairs.”
You can practically hear her smirk through the door.
You exhale deeply and look at Jake, you both struggle to contain your giggles as you shush him, smushing your finger against his lips. Finally hearing their footsteps fade away, you begin.
“You’ve gotta leave, I’m the example for Amelia and now she’s gonna think I’m a total slut!”
Jake laughs but quietens himself when he realises you’re being serious.
“Doll, she won’t think that she loves you!”
You smile at Jake’s sweet attempt to cheer you up but continue, “Baby as sweet as you are you still need to leave, I can’t have the first time you’re round my house meeting my family be when they’ve interrupted our second round.”
Jake chuckles but nods, understanding your worry. He goes to stand and heads for the bedroom door but you stop him in his tracks,
“Where are you going?” You question.
“To get my clothes?” Jake replies, brows scrunched in confusion.
“You cant go out there! They’ll see you!” You whisper shout, “I’ll get them.”
You pull on a pair of cotton pyjama shorts and a large t shirt that you had discarded on your bedroom floor and tip toe out onto the landing where you grab Jake’s boxers. Jake’s grey shorts lay on the top few steps but his shirt had been discarded near the bottom steps with his shoes. You lean down and grab his shorts as realise you can’t see your aunt and niece anywhere near the living room that feeds off from the staircase. As hurriedly and quietly as you could, you race to get his shirt and shoes before one of them could appear to question you. With his clothes in tow, you creep back upstairs to where you had left Jake in your room.
When you step into your room, you notice Jake is no longer sat on your bed. He’s stood looking at your bookshelf browsing his eyes across the books stored there. He takes notice of the ones with the most battered spines and makes a mental note to pick them up somewhere to read. It’s a funny, albeit sweet sight, watching your 6’1 boyfriend stood stark naked looking lost in thought in front of your bookshelves.
“Here’s your clothes babe,” you speak, pulling him from his trance. He looks slightly embarrassed but recovers quickly and takes his clothes, stepping into his boxers first. As he dresses you admire him, giggling as he makes a show out of sliding his shorts up and pulling his shirt down over his chest.
Finally dressed he speaks, “You want me to go out the window, don’t you?”
You chuckle and shrug your shoulders apologetically, “I promise I’ll bring you here properly and introduce you soon.”
He smiles and walks over to kiss you, “You’re lucky I love you.”
You bask in his comment shyly and wait until he’s at your window to speak, “I love you too cowboy, text me when you get home.”
He nods and blows you a kiss before opening your window and making his careful exit. The drop isn’t too small by any means, but he lands rather gracefully with his knees bent. Jake stands up to his full height and makes eye contact with two women staring out from the kitchen window.
Penny chuckles at him, already aware that Jake was the man in her house when her and Amelia had arrived home earlier than schedule from their visit to Mav’s hangar. Amelia waves at him with a smirk on her face and Jake awkwardly waves back. He swears he hears Amelia speak to her mother,
“I knew she had someone up there with her! None of us would wear a shirt that colour!”
Jake laughs, knowing you’re going to get an earful later and saunters off towards his truck.
You’re pretty content with how your plan worked out as you lie back against your pillows, before your cousin bursts into your room squealing.
“I wanna know everything about him! Wait is he that cute pilot I always see you talking to at the Hard Deck? Oh my god he totally is!”
You let her gush, reminding yourself how excitable you were as a young teen and look up to the doorway to make eye contact with your smiling aunt.
She cant help but feel transported back to the first time your mother (her younger sister) had found out she had been seeing one of the hot shot pilots her father had always warned her of. She sends a wink your way and listens as you try to answer Amelia’s questions as family friendly as possible.
3.
Penny’s heart clenched as she looked to your tear stained face. You and her had decided to do a rom com marathon to distract you from your emotions but clearly it hadn’t been working.
Jake had announced to you yesterday that he would be on deployment for 90 days in a weeks time. You had put on a brave face in front of him, claiming you’d miss him dearly but be okay whilst you waited back home. Once you left his place you had cried in your car firstly, then on the drive back when a song that reminded you of Jake played, and then finally into the arms of your aunt once your arrived home.
Penny knew of the difficulties of loving a naval aviator, her father had been one as well as her boyfriend and she was well aware of the heartbreak deployment often brought. Over the years she had learnt ways to deal with how she felt and was no longer affected in such a way. However, watching you live through the stages she once had to made her slightly woeful as well.
Hearing you sniffle, Penny decides to speak up, “You shouldn’t ignore him sweetheart, you’ll regret it when he’s gone.”
You look up at her, unimpressed with what is actually good advice. You sigh weakly and let her continue.
“Tell him how you feel,” you interrupt her quickly, “I don’t want him to be feel bad for me! He has his own worries he shouldn’t have to think for me.”
It’s now Penny’s turn to sigh at your words, “You and I both know Jake, and we know that he does that anyway. You’re just worrying him, more by avoiding him.”
You look up from where you’ve been playing with your hands and make eye contact with her. You know she’s right but it tastes so bitter to admit it. She smiles slowly as she sees you come to realisation. You stand abruptly from the couch and walk to the door, picking up your keys from the table as you go.
“Where are you going?” Penny questions, already knowing the answer.
You roll you eyes playfully at her, “don’t make me say it,” you pout before admitting your planned route.
But as you open the door, you spot something you weren’t expecting. Jake is pacing your porch and looks up at the sound of you opening the door.
He smiles sheepishly at you, “I was about to knock, I promise.”
You lock eyes with Jake and the tears come flowing out, “I’m sorry for ignoring you! I’m scared to be without you for so long but I didn’t want you to waste time feeling bad about me!”
Jake pulls you into his arms and rests his head above yours, “No time spent thinking about you is wasted, sweets.”
You giggle at how he manages to be cheesy even when you’re both so upset. You press your lips to his, savouring in how it feels wary that you won’t be able to do that for the next three months. You feels tears start to brim in your eyes again but Jake flicks them away.
“I don’t want my best girl to be upset, please baby.” Jake speaks.
You give him a watery smile and he laughs. He doesn’t really know how he’s supposed to be away from you for the next few months when he can’t even let you go from the hug.
“I’ll write to you every day,” you promise him.
“Oh, I’m counting on it doll.” Jake smirks into your hair.
Jake regrets his words when a week into his deployment he receives a thick letter written in your delicate handwriting. He makes the mistake of opening it whilst sat on the bunks next to Coyote and begs him to never mention the fact that he has now seen a few more risquée Polaroids of you than he had bargained for that morning.
+1
Jake had finally allowed himself to be excited about seeing you again now that he only had one day left of his deployment. Your letters and photos could only do so much to appease how much he needed to see you and hold you in real life. You had invaded his mind wholly for the past three months and it sent his heart racing slightly at thought of finally getting to see you again.
Knowing you would have your boyfriend back tomorrow had you slightly giddy as you wiped down the bar tops at the Hard Deck, whistling a song Jake had played to you many times before.
As you wiped you thought about having him all to yourself again, having his strong hands on your hips and his lips on your mouth but also him resting his head on your chest or letting you play with his hair.
As you continued to whistle, your aunt pushes her way through the double doors which lead to the kitchen and storage area of the Hard Deck. She smiles as she notices your significant change in demeanour from the months past and speaks up.
“Ready to close up for the night?” She questions.
“Absolutely.” You smile at her.
Penny would have loved to tease you for your lovesick behaviour, but she too was elated for tomorrow. Maverick had been sent away as well, to oversee any training taking place and although she would like to think she has a slight amount more emotional maturity due to her age she was still as giddy as you were on the inside.
You link arms with her as you walk to the car both now humming the tune to the last song that had been playing on the jukebox before you closed up for the night.
Waiting with the rest of the families for the aviators to arrive back feels surreal. It’s a warm day and your wearing Jake’s favourite sundress with some wedges that are verging on uncomfortable but look great with the outfit. You cant quite believe you’re going to see him again.
You’re looking across at the sea of family members, and make eye contact with Bob’s girlfriend. She smiles at you and waves before turning back to the matured woman she’s stood next to who you can only assume is Bob’s mother. You turn back to Penny and squeeze her hand as you see the first of the aviators leave the ship.
They come out in streams of khaki uniforms and you can’t help but smile at thought of seeing Jake in his own uniform. It always fit slightly too tightly over his biceps, making it mostly uncomfortable for him but extremely worth it for you.
Maverick is one of the first to leave the carrier along with the rest of the higher ranked officers. He makes his way quickly over to Penny but not before smiling politely at you. You move to the side slightly to give them their own space as well as giving you a better view of the people still leaving the carrier.
You let anxiety eat at your stomach a little the longer it takes for you to spot Jake. You wonder if he’ll even be excited to see you, if he’s grown tired of you over the months he’s been away. But all those worries are swept away as you spot Jake leaving the carrier walking next to Rooster and Coyote. Bob is slightly ahead of them and beelines for his girlfriend. You watch as Jake scans the crowd of people for you before you lock eyes.
He zones in on you and suddenly has urgency in his steps. Jake realises he has definitely knocked over some younger pilots and at least one small child in his march to get to you but he can’t find it in him to care. Not when his girlfriend is looking radiant as ever and waiting for him after three months.
Tired of waiting on him you run as fast as your wedges allow to make up for the distance and jump into his arms. You pepper kisses all over his face and finally land one on his lips, you go to pull away but he holds you there and deepens the kiss. You allow him to for a moment but you’re still aware of your surroundings so you pull away and rest your forehead against his.
“I missed you.” You speak against his lips.
You can feel him smiling.
“I missed you more.”
You mock sigh exasperatedly and roll your eyes, “God, do you have to make everything a competition?”
He laughs like he hasn’t in months, and pulls you in for a kiss again. You signal for him to let you down but he keeps you in his grip as you make you way over to Maverick and Penny who had just been watching you.
Penny watches you and your boyfriend giggle as he spins you around, holding the edge of your dress tight to your body so it doesn’t fly up. She squeezes Mav’s hand as she remembers how her and Pete could never reunite in such ways. Her father had been strict about her not fraternising with the pilots, let alone cocksure ones like Maverick, so she had never truly been able to settle down with him.
It delights her to see you like this with Jake because it makes her realise that you aren’t her and Maverick. You’re completely different, in the best way possible.
Jake finally sets you down so you can all greet each other. He nods to Maverick and hugs Penny before returning to your side, hoping he never has to leave it again.

You stand with your hand on my waistline
It's a scene, and we're out here in plain sight
I can hear them whisper as we pass by
It's a bad sign, bad sign
Jake's always had impeccable timing.
He'd tell you, later, that he sensed it. Just knew. Felt it in his gut, some sort of warning from the universe. He had to get to you.
The Admiral has you half bent over the desk in his office, fingers twisted into your underwear. He's trying to pull them down your legs when the door swings open.
You're paralysed, frozen with fear. The look on your face must tell Jake enough. He gets the message, understands your silent communication.
The Admiral stops. Backs away. As if putting distance between you will erase what he's been caught doing. Trying to do.
You expect Jake to yell, fight, throw The Admiral across the room by his collar. You expect blood, bruises, broken skin and bared teeth.
All you're met with is silence.
Jake strides across the room towards you. Fixes your clothes, smooths down your hair. Wipes the tears from your cheeks. He snakes a hand around your waist and guides you out of the door. Not a word said.
Something happens when everybody finds out
See the vultures circling, dark clouds
Love's a fragile little flame, it could burn out
It could burn out
"He'll ruin my career."
You're tucked into Jake's lap, legs slung over his hips as he holds you close. His rough fingertips run themselves up and down your spine, comforting and gentle. You inhale his musk, letting the familiarity fill your lungs.
"You didn't do anything wrong, baby."
"That won't matter."
The two of you are whispering, hushed voices bouncing off the furniture. You're alone together in Jake's living room. There's no one else around. You think he's scared he'll spook you. You're right.
"I worked so hard for this, Jake. I sacrificed everything to get into Top Gun."
"I know, baby."
"I can't lose it all."
He presses a tender kiss to your forehead, brushing your hair back from your eyes.
"What do you want to do? Report him?"
"Jake, you're not listening to me. He'll ruin my career."
"But he's the guilty one. Not you."
"Yeah, well. This is the way it works. Men can assault you and still play the victim."
You're frustrated, now. There's something bubbling, running through your veins. You can't put your finger on it. It feels like more than rage. Whatever it is, it's lethal.
You climb off Jake's lap and stand, pacing across the carpet.
"What am I supposed to do?" you murmur, tears threatening to spill.
Jake can't stand the wobble in your voice. It tightens something in his chest, pulls at his heartstrings. He was furious, before. He's just sad now.
"I'll do anything you ask," he tells you, standing up to cradle your face in his hands. "Anything in the world."
"I know."
And you do. That's what it's like, being with Jake. He loves so entirely, with his whole being. Every fibre of his heart belongs to you. It beats to the rhythm of your name.
"Just tell me what you wanna do, baby. I'm on your side. No matter what."
You lean up to kiss him, his lips soft and careful against yours.
"I'm not sure, yet. When I know, you'll know."
Jake sits back down on the couch, pulling you with him. You tuck yourself into his side, fitting there perfectly. He slings an arm around your waist and keeps you close, holding you a little tighter than usual.
Cause they got the cages, they got the boxes
And guns
They are the hunters, we are the foxes
And we run
"We should kill him."
You're strewn across Jake's chest, tangled in the sheets. Your limbs and hearts are intertwined, bodies drenched in sweat and lungs heaving.
"What?"
You sit up, pulling the comforter up and over your body slightly to combat the chill of the ocean breeze that's filtering through the open window.
"Let's kill him."
You look over to your boyfriend, waiting for the punchline. It never comes.
"Jake."
He turns to you, the most serious you've ever seen him. There's a look in his eye you've never seen before. It's dark. You're vaguely aware you should probably feel fear - but all you feel is anticipation.
"How many girls do you think he's done this to before you? How many will come after?"
You swallow, biting at your lips.
"He needs to be stopped, baby. You and I both know they won't fire him. He needs to be taken out of the equation altogether."
You realise, suddenly, that the thing you're worried about isn't the morality of the situation. It's the logistics. You don't want to get caught.
"Do you think we're smart enough to get away with murder?"
"Baby," he drawls, brushing his knuckles over your cheekbone. "We're a hell of a lot smarter than people give us credit for."
You know he's right. People underestimate both you and Jake. Everyone assumes he's nothing but a pretty face and toned muscles. That you're just his pilot girlfriend, seduced by his Southern charm and the fact that he's good in bed.
It seems like a challenge, now. You want to do this. You want to see if you can get away with it. You're already on the precipice of losing everything - why not go out with a bang?
"How would we do it?" you ask, leaning in closer to the blonde man next to you.
He thinks for a moment, running his fingers up and down your bare thighs.
"I say we make it look like a suicide. Shoot him in the head and frame it so it looks self inflicted."
You nod, processing.
"I think we should hold him at gunpoint first. Get him to write a confession, some sort of letter. That way, there's no confusion as to what happened."
"You're a genius," Jake grins, dipping down to kiss you.
He slips his tongue into your mouth effortlessly, sighing when he tastes himself from earlier. You straddle his waist and tangle your fingers into his hair, desperate to be close to him.
Both of you are high on adrenaline, buzzed on the anticipation of what's to come.
Baby, I know places we won't be found and
They'll be chasing their tails trying to track us down
'Cause I, I know places we can hide
I know places
I know places
Murder isn't as hard as you thought it'd be.
Careful planning. Airtight alibis. Reassurance and recon.
You and Jake have created the perfect crime.
The two of you show up to The Admiral's office on an evening you know he'll be working late. He's doing paperwork when you arrive.
You walk in first. Jake follows, and locks the door behind him.
The Admiral goes to speak, but you silence him with a handgun pointed at his chest.
"Speak, and you die."
He doesn't say another word.
Jake takes the gun from your hand and walks around the desk, pressing it into his superiors temple.
"We need a couple of things from you," he begins. "Just a favour or two."
The Admiral is sweating, pale and rigid. He looks scared. It sends a rush of adrenaline through you. You're enjoying this. Jake is too, judging by the beaming grin on his face.
"Grab a pen, and some paper. We're about to do some creative writing."
Jake orchestrates the letter. Gets him to write exactly what you need. Notes down the brutality, the arrogance, the abuse of power. He makes him recount every incident, not just yours. You're there for what feels like hours, as his shaky hands move the pen across the paper.
Finally, he finishes. Dots the I's and crosses the T's. Jake chuckles.
"Wonderful. And for the last part of this joyous evening were having together, my girlfriend is gonna shoot you."
The Admiral chokes on his breath. Looks to you with fear in his eyes. Finally, you think. He understands how it felt.
He goes to open his mouth, but you stop him.
"Don't beg. Don't plead. It's pathetic."
"We made up our mind weeks ago," Jake adds. "You're not going to deter us now."
You smile at your boyfriend, giddy over the way he's protecting you, saving you, loving you.
"I'm going to enjoy this," you whisper.
You take the gun from Jake and press it to The Admiral's temple. You know the silencer will muffle the noise - you really have thought of everything.
You click off the safety, and lean down so your mouth is next to his ear.
"This is for all of the women you hurt."
You pull the trigger.
He dies instantly.
Lights flash and we'll run for the fences
Let them say what they want, we won't hear it
Loose lips sink ships all the damn time
Not this time
In another life, you and Jake could have been actors.
You're all called into the briefing room the next day, gathered together in confusion.
Admiral Simpson stands in front of your class - pale as a sheet, dark circles bruised under his eyes.
"There's been a situation, and we want you to hear it from us," he begins. "I ask that you all keep this to yourselves, where possible. Don't talk to any media, don't gossip, don't spread rumours. Understood?"
When you all nod, he continues.
"The Admiral is dead."
The room goes silent. Jake's hand finds yours under the table. To anyone on the outside, it looks like a boyfriend supporting his girlfriend. To you, it's something different.
It feels like time stands still. The world stops turning, suspending you in the present moment. Eventually, Rooster speaks.
"What happened?"
Beau clears his throat, swiping his hand over his face.
"He took his own life."
There are whispers now, hushed and clipped. Everyone is in a state of shock and confusion. Everyone, except for you and the blonde man next to you. He squeezes your hand tightly, refusing to let go.
"Of course, there will be an investigation. But, it seems pretty obvious to us what happened. If anyone in this room has been effected by the actions of The Admiral that have come to light... please, speak to me, or any other of your superiors. Thank you. "
He exits the room, leaving all of you in palpable silence.
"What the fuck?" Payback mutters. "What did he mean, 'actions that have come to light?'"
"There's rumours," Phoenix begins. "He had a... soft spot, for young female pilots. People have been whispering about it for months."
Suddenly, all eyes are on you. You're the only other woman in the room besides Natasha, and she clearly wasn't involved.
"Did he ever... try anything with you, Ivy?"
"No," you're quick to answer. "No. Thank God."
The room breathes a collective sigh of relief.
If only they knew.
they take their shots, but we're bulletproof I know places
and you know for me, it's always you I know places
in the dead of night, your eyes so green I know places
and I know for you, it's always me I know places
A month later, you snap.
Jake comes home to find you frantically shoving clothes into a duffel bag, sweat dripping down your back.
"Baby," he tries, cautious, like he's approaching a spooked animal. "Baby."
You turn to face him with wild eyes, fear radiating off you.
"What's wrong, angel?"
You look at him incredulously.
"What's wrong? What's fucking wrong? We killed someone, Jake! That's what's wrong!"
"He wasn't a good guy."
"That doesn't matter. That doesn't make it right."
He cradles your face in his hands, eyes never leaving yours.
"Talk to me. What's going on? You've been okay. We've been okay. I thought we were processing, moving forward."
"I was. And then today, I just... can't. It was murder, Jake. Premeditated murder."
"Listen to me," he demands, tilting your chin up so your eyes are level. "He was an awful, awful man. The world is a better place without him. We saved so many women from a horrible fate, baby. We did a good thing."
You inhale carefully, and exhale a shaky breath, leaning up to press a kiss to his bitten lips.
"Yeah?" you ask, unsure. "We did save people, didn't we?"
"We wouldn't have done it without just reason, baby. We're good people, you and I. We both know we are."
You nod, looking for any signs of insecurity in his eyes. You don't find a single speck.
"You're right. Fuck, you're right. Sorry if I scared you, Jake."
"You scared me because I thought you were leaving me," he chuckles. "Wondered what I did wrong."
"Nothing," you're quick to reassure, tangling tracing your fingertips over the features of his face in a featherlight touch. "My God, Jake. I've never loved anyone as much as I love you. You're it for me. You're my forever."
Jake leans down, pressing his lips to yours firmly and surely. It's as if he's telling you everything he feels without using any words. He pulls you into him, winding his arms around your back and tugging you closer.
"I've got you, baby. No matter what happens. It's me and you, always. I love you."
"I love you too, Seresin. Always."
They are the hunters, we are the foxes
And we run
Just grab my hand and don't ever drop it
My love
"Let's run away."
You're taking off your shoes by the door when Jake comes bounding down the stairs, buzzing with energy.
"Hmm?"
"Let's run away, baby. You and me. The open road. We can go anywhere we want."
"Jake," you laugh. "Are you drunk? What's happening?"
"Not drunk. My head's clearer than it has ever been. I've been thinking, while you were gone."
"Thinking about...?" you ask, wrapping your arms around his neck and leaning up to kiss his rosy lips.
"Getting out of here. This place is full of bad memories and old ghosts. We can start afresh somewhere new."
"Like where?"
"Anywhere. Literally anywhere. We don't even have to stay in America. We could go to Europe, Australia, Canada? The possibilities are actually endless."
"What's triggered this?" you murmur. "You okay?"
"I'm always okay when I'm with you," he smiles. "But.... I can just feel it, you know? I can feel everything piling up. There's a weight on my shoulders, and on yours too. We can let that go. I know we can."
"You're right, about the weight. I haven't relaxed in months."
Jake slides his hands under your shirt, tracing his fingers up and down the bare skin of your back.
"I know," he murmurs against your lips. "I think there's something better out there for us."
"Where would we go? Like, serious talk, what are our options?"
"I know places," he winks.
"What places, Jake?" you try to chide, but you're smiling.
"We can go to my mom's, first, in Texas. Just to touch base. From there, I mean it when I say literally anywhere, baby. Wherever you wanna go, we can go. You've always wanted to go to Italy, right? We could go there. Or I have a high school friend in Perth - we could go there."
"I wanna go somewhere with good food. Kind people. Beautiful views. A little sunshine wouldn't hurt either."
He's grinning at you, white and blinding. His excitement is contagious, settling into your bones.
"Imagine it, baby. Me and you, on the beach all day. We could surf, swim, go grab some lunch, then surf and swim some more. Go home, make dinner, sit out in the yard and listen to the ocean waves. Do it all again the next day."
You can't wipe the smile off your face, practically bouncing on the soles of your feet.
"Okay."
Jake stops in his tracks, still and rigid.
"Really?"
"Really. We can go right now, Jake. I don't wanna be here any longer."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. Fuck, I love you. Let's pack our shit and go, baby."
Jake kisses you with fervour, dipping you backwards like you're in a movie. You squeal, gripping the nape of his neck for balance. He picks you up and spins you around, twirling you like a fairytale.
"What about everyone here?" you ask, forehead pressed to Jake's.
"We'll miss them, and they'll miss us, but we'll all be okay."
He's right. These people are your family, but they'll understand. You have to do what's best for you.
"Do you really wanna go as soon as we can?"
"Yeah, Jake. I meant it. We can start packing right now."
He wraps his arms around your middle and carries you upstairs, throwing the closet doors open while you grab your suitcase.
Baby, I know places we won't be found and
They'll be chasing their tails trying to track us down
'Cause I, I know places we can hide
I know places
The sun beats down on your skin, warming you up from the outside in. There's a breeze whipping through your hair, carrying salt from the ocean into the car. The sunroof is down, allowing you to breathe in the fresh air.
Jake's hand slides across the centre console and onto your thigh, thumb rubbing circles into your bare skin.
"You okay?"
He's looking over at you, taking his eyes off the road for a split second.
"I'm good, baby."
He smiles, the grin reaching every feature of his face, lighting him up.
You've been on the road for months, stopping and starting however and whenever you please. A motel here, a beach apartment there. You've lost count of how many states you've travelled through, collecting postcards in each one.
You'll settle down, eventually. You've been making a list of your favourite places you've visited, ranking them as you go. You'll most likely buy a place in your top choice. But not yet.
For now, you're content with the open road. The convertible car, all your belongings in a suitcase in the trunk, roof down at every opportunity. You like not staying in one place for too long. It weirdly suits you.
Jake's never looked happier. He glows, smile lines creasing the corner of his eyes. He laughs so often, and you never get tired of the sound.
You glance down to the golden band on your left hand, smiling softly.
"What are you thinking about?" your husband asks, squeezing your thigh.
"Vegas," you beam. "Never did I think I'd be married by an Elvis impersonator in a bright blue chapel."
"I'm the epitome of class, baby. You know this."
Both of you are grinning, chuckling gently.
"We did the right thing. Leaving."
"Yeah, we did. I'm glad I believed what you said."
"What did I say?"
"That you knew places."
He traces a love heart on your skin with his thumb, over and over again.
"Told you, baby. I know places."

in which jake is your roommate and ruins all your dates. accidentally. accidentally, right?🌻 18+ only!
Tumblr media
Jake Seresin isn’t an ideal roommate. He sings in the shower at 5 a.m., he can’t load a dishwasher to save his life—seriously, who puts mugs on the bottom—and he has a habit of walking around shirtless that is beginning to interfere with your love life.
Of course, he’s got a lot of good qualities. He’s a surprisingly good cook, with a recipe for chicken and dumplings you’re pretty sure is the best thing you’ve ever eaten. He’s also got that Navy-mandated tidiness, so the apartment you share is always vacuumed and dusted. And he has a habit of walking around shirtless, which, as appealing as it is for your eyes, is…
Yepp. Starting to mess with your love life.
Because guys see Jake making a smoothie in the kitchen or getting back from a run or literally doing anything and decide they have to have some stupid pissing contest with your roommate, who remains, you think, entirely oblivious to how threatened he makes the men you bring home. Because why would he see them as a threat, right? He’s so far out of your league that your dates have nothing to worry about. Jake Seresin could pull any girl he ever wanted so why would he want you?
You’re almost grateful he’s deployed—despite your usual worry for his safety—when you bring a new guy home from the bar. No Jake means no weird energy and maybe a chance to actually let a relationship get off its feet.
Until he comes out of the bathroom and you’re smiling at your phone because Jake sent you a text, a photo of the two of you at the beach from last year. One of those iPhone memories that apparently made him think of you.
This came up on my phone yesterday. Miss you, sweetheart. Don’t burn the place down. Oh and I’m safe in case you couldn’t tell.
Your date isn’t thrilled to see the photo, even though he asks to. Tells you it looks like you’re a couple—as if—and that Jake seems really comfortable touching you—he’s just a touchy person.
The night ends with some mediocre sex and, despite his words to the otherwise, your date never calls you back.
You try not to blame Jake, but it’s hard not to see him as the root of all your woes in love. And if you’re not mad at him, you’ll have to analyze why he’s accidentally ruining every date you’re on and maybe you’ll have to admit that it’s because none of these guys actually measure up to Jake.
You’d have to have the startling realization that you are hopelessly in love with your roommate.
So when Jake comes back a few weeks later maybe you’re cold. Maybe you’re quiet. Maybe you’re keeping to yourself and maybe you tell him to fuck off when he keeps asking what he did wrong.
You move to storm out of the apartment and it’s all very dramatic, but Jake stops you with a hand grasped firmly around your wrist. It’s not rough, but determined, and he pulls you gently closer to him, his green eyes burning with confusion under furrowed brows.
“What was that?” His skin is sun-kissed and he can’t tell you where he was deployed but you know it was somewhere warm from the way the few freckles that dot his nose are more prominent than usual.
“Fuck. Off.”
Jake blinks, undeterred. And then he stares at you, gaze so focused you feel like you’re a target in one of his stupid training exercises. You want to shy away, but when his other hand comes up to wipe away the tears you hadn’t realized we’re gathering in your eyes it all comes out. All your weird and messy feelings that will certainly ruin everything and make it so you need to find another place to live.
But when you’re done talking, Jake just frowns. He pulls you impossibly closer and rests his chin atop your head. “I’m sorry, sweets,” he mutters, “But I’m glad I scared those guys off.” He doesn’t add that he was totally doing it on purpose as often as he could—things are still too fragile for that. One day he’ll tell you. And on that day, he’ll receive a face full of chocolate cake as punishment.
But for today, he just lets you sniffle in his arms, holds you close as you put a wet spot down the front of his t-shirt. “They’re not good enough for you,” he continues, “I just helped them realize that sooner rather than later.”
“Jake,” you complain, “You can’t keep doing that. I need…I want to find someone.”
His frown deepens and he places his hands on your waist, tapping your hips lightly to warn you that he’s going to pick you up. Carrying you into your bedroom, he sighs. “Fine. I’ll stop, if you give this guy I know a shot.”
“I’m listening.”
“He’s Navy,” Jake continues, “And he’s got a killer body.”
“Definitely listening,” you laugh, but try to ignore the pang of hurt that is Jake setting you up with one of his friends.
Jake rolls his eyes and takes a spot beside you on your bed. “He’s a great pilot, some say the best. And he’s a gentleman, Texas-raised so he knows his way around a kitchen.”
Oh. Oh.
“Jake…”
He holds up a hand, not willing to be interrupted. “And he’s shit at loading the dishwasher, sweets, but I know he’d be willing to learn.”

Only Bought This Dress So You Could Take It Off.
Requested: Nope! I just love Jake Seresin.
Warnings: Language. Mentions of death. Losing a parent. Brief mentions of smut. Non-consensual touching (on the face for about two seconds.) Poorly grieving with death. Probably grammar, spelling or punctuation errors. Just go with it.
Pairing: Jake Seresin x Fem!Kazansky!Reader (Call Sign: Frosty)
Type: Angst with a happy ending
Summary: Inspired heavily on Dress by Taylor Swift.
Y/N’s relationship with the one and only Jake Seresin has always been difficult to say the least. The two banter back and forth, constantly flirting or taunting each other. They have never been more than friendenemies at best until one day they weren’t and Y/N finds herself yearning for the one man who drives her absolutely crazy.
Authors Note:  So I have seen Top Gun Maverick about twelve+ times since it came out about a year ago now. I just love it so much. It has easily become one of my favorite movies. From the storyline to the characters and overall movie aesthetic. I have spent the past few weeks reading nothing but Jake fics and felt like writing one myself.
I have not written anything in a very very veryyyy long time. So this honestly could be bad. But, with that being said, I am so happy with the direction this went in and it feels good to have written again. Please let me know your thoughts. :) I do also want to point out I have somewhat changed the timeline of the movie to fit my story. Thank you so much for reading!

Our secret moments in your crowded room
They got no idea about me and you
There is an indentation in the shape of you
Made your mark on me, a golden tattoo
“You know, sometimes it physically pains me to hold back my sarcastic remarks around you.”
“Don’t hold back on my account darlin’.” That sickeningly sweet, southern draw floats by Y/N’s ear, making the girl roll her eyes.
The voice belongs to none other than Jake “Hangman” Seresin. The one person who seems to always get under Y/N’s skin despite her normally unbothered demeanor.
Frosty was the callsign Y/N had been gifted. Partly due to her cold and calm demeanor and another part due to her infamous father Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. Y/N had grown up admiring her father, wanting nothing more than to be like him one day. From a very young age the girl knew she was meant to be a pilot.
There was no denying that Y/N was given chances others weren’t but that didn’t mean the girl didn’t work just as hard as others, if not harder. Which is how she ended up back at Top Gun among the best of the best. One of which just happened to be the only man who managed to drive her mad.
“Bagman..I mean this in the most unloving way. Fuck off.”
“You wound me Frost.” The man put a hand over his heart in mock heartbreak. The girl rolled her eyes again as Jake leaned closer. “But if I’m going to fuck anything, it’s you.”
Y/N could feel the smirk on Jake’s face without even facing him. The girl was used to being flirted with, Navy men could be pigs at times. Normaly, it didn’t phase her in the slightest but for some reason, when it came to Jake Fucking Seresin, she just couldn’t help the flutter she felt in her heart.
 “In your dreams Seresin.” She managed to get out, desperately trying to hide the blush rising on her cheeks.
“Trust me darlin, it is.” He winked and walked out of the room. Leaving Y/N to let out the breath she didn’t even realize she had been holding. The only thing the girl knew for sure, is no one has ever made her heart race like he did.
Tumblr media
All of this silence and patience, pining in anticipation
My hands are shaking from holding back from you (ah, ah, ah)
All of this silence and patience, pining and desperately waiting
My hands are shaking from all this (ah, ha, ha, ha)
The day was hot and that was putting it mildly. When you pair the sweltering California heat with the suffocating flight suit and heavy helmet, the weather felt like hell.
All Y/N wanted to do was get to the locker room and take a shower. The girl wanted it so bad she could imagine the shocking feel of ice cold water against her sweat covered skin. That thought alone brought a smile to her face. After a long day of stressful training, she just wanted to relax. Unfortunately for her, someone had other plans.
“We all know you are only in this program because your daddy pulled some strings. You can pretend otherwise but I know the truth.” The deep voice floats down the hall behind Y/N, causing the girl to turn around with a raised brow.
“Do you think you are the first person to have said that to me?” The girl crossed her arms, glaring at the man standing in front of her. She recognized him from around base. She couldn’t pinpoint exactly what he did here but in her defense, she had been too busy with training and class to meet many people other than her teammates.
“Probably not but it doesn’t make it less true. You don’t deserve to be here.”
“Listen fucker. I have had a rough day. I am hot, I am hungry, and I am tired. I do not need to stand here and justify myself to some dip shit who decided to share his opinion with the class. Just walk away.”
The man smirked and stepped closer to Y/N, forcing her back towards the cold beige wall as she moved to step away from him. His grimy hands reached out and stroked the girl's cheek. “I think you just need to be taught a lesson, maybe put that dirty mouth to work on something else.”
“You son of a bit-”
“Is everything alright here?” That familiar voice rings out, causing Y/N to turn her head towards the tall figure walking in her direction.
“Yeah  man, me and my girl were just chatting.” The shorter man, Y/N had mentally nicknamed douchebag said.
“Funny. Doesn’t look like Frost is in the mood to chat with you.” Jake walked closer, physically moving douchebags hand away from the girl. “I also heard everything you said..if you’re going to talk shit, maybe make sure you don’t have an audience. I doubt you would want admiral Simpson or captain Mitchell to find out how you treat one of your coworkers. Sounds like grounds for dismissal to me.”
At Jake's words, douchebag pales, taking another step back. “Look I’m sorry I-”
“If I ever hear you talking about my friend again, I will personally make sure you never talk again. Frost is a better pilot than most of us, hell she is a better pilot than me. Now if you ever touch her again, I will leave you so unrecognizable, your mother won’t be able to identify the body. Get the hell out of here before I show you I’m serious.” Jake growled out the words and the other man ran off. Letting out a breath, Jake  turned towards the girl and calmed down. “You alright Frosty?”
“I could have handled that prick.”
Jake smirked at the girl and tilted his head. “You know, a thank you would suffice.”
Y/N sighed and looked up at Jake. “Thank you Hangman.”
“Anything for you darlin. Only I am allowed to taunt you.” He trailed his green eyes down her face, taking in every feature until he stopped at her soft lips.
“My knight in shining armor.” The girl meant to be sarcastic but the words came out in no more than a soft breath, her own gaze going to Jake’s lips. “You said I’m a better pilot than you.”
“Did I?” Jake said softly, brushing some hair out of the girl's face as the two drifted towards each other, lips almost touching until a bang of a door had them jumping away from each other.
“There you are Frosty, I’ve been looking for you all day. Let's go get lunch.” Rooster made his way over, throwing an arm around his best friend, oblivious that he just ruined the moment. “Hangman.” He nodded at the blonde and led the girl out, talking her ear off about god knows what.
Y/N couldn’t focus on a thing Rooster said as she glanced back at the man she left alone in the hall. Her eyes connected with his green ones, the look in them so intense and full of longing, she had to look away.

Say my name and everything just stops
I don't want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
Take it off
Carve your name into my bedpost
'Cause I don't want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
Take it off
“Hangman, hottie checking you out at 12 o’clock.” Coyote said, interrupting Y/N’s thoughts as the girl stared at the cold beer in her hand. The dagger squad had decided to utilize their day off with a trip to The Hard Deck. The group hadn’t been there long before practically all of the women (and some men) in the bar started giving suggestive looks to the team. Y/N really couldn’t blame them. Everyone on her team was unnaturally attractive.
“Oh trust me Coyote. I saw her. And I think the lady looks thirsty, maybe I should fix that.” Jake smirked and walked over to his admirer.
Y/N tried desperately not to stare at them but she just couldn't look away. The brunette's hand, resting on Jake's arm as she gave him a flirty smile. Y/N didn’t need to see Jake's face to know he was eating this up.
Y/N couldn’t understand why she felt a pang in her chest at seeing him flirting with someone else. It’s not much of a secret that Jake is a flirt. And it’s not like she had any sort of relationship with Jake other than friendenemies, if you can even call it that.
“Frost there is a cutie staring at you too.” Phoenix spoke up, grabbing Y/N’s attention away from Jake. The girl followed the direction Phoenix was looking in and sure enough, a tall dark haired man shot her a wink. “Go get him to buy you a drink.” Phoenix smirked and helped the girl up.
Sucking in a breath, Y/N put on her best confident smile and walked towards the man.
“Hello gorgeous. Sorry for staring, I just couldn’t look away from you.”
“Yeah, I know the feeling.” Y/N said softly.
“Can I buy you a drink?”
“Sure, I’d like that.” Y/N gave the man a genuine smile and sat down at the bar next to him.
The conversation was pleasant enough. The man who Y/N learned was named Greg, made her laugh. But the same gnawing feeling ached within her..he was kind, funny, handsome even. But he was no Jake.
“Would you like to dance Y/N?” Greg smiles brightly, holding his hand out while his blue eyes sparkled under the bar lights.
“Sure.” Y/N finished off her beer and walked towards the jukebox with Greg, his hands resting on her hips while she wrapped her arms around his neck. “I’m a horrible dancer so this swaying is the most you’re getting out of me.” The girl laughed softly.
“I’ll take anything you’re willing to give me as long as I can hold you this close.” Greg smiled and pulled her closer to him, his eyes drifting down to her lips.
Y/N could tell Greg wanted to kiss her and maybe a part of her wanted him to. But, every urge the girl felt to make a move with Greg, she felt a more intense one to run towards Jake.
 It was a stupid ache that she couldn’t shake and the most infuriating thing about it was she didn’t understand why. Most of the conversations Y/N and Jake had were them taunting each other. When did taunting turn into more for her and does Jake feel the same? She doubted it by the way he had flocked to the first pretty girl to bat her eyes at him. That thought alone made her move towards Greg and pull back from her Jake filled thoughts.
“You can kiss me Greg.” The girl said softly, looking at his lips. Greg didn’t need to be told twice. He leaned in slowly, trying to savor the moment and right as their lips were about to touch, that familiar honeyed voice Y/N has grown to crave,  rang out next to her.
“Frosty.”
Y/N pulled back slowly, turning towards Jake. “I’m a little busy here Hangman.”
“Yeah, I see that.” Jake said flatly, not sparing a glance at Greg. “I was just wondering if your little dance partner knew about your extremely high risk job and the ramifications of dating a pilot. Especially a pilot like you.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Y/N gritted her teeth and looked up at him.
Greg looked between you both and moved his hands off your hips. “Look, you’re great Y/N. Really great, but I don't want to get involved in the middle of this.” He motioned between the two pilots. “It was nice to meet you, thank you for a fun night.” He kissed her cheek and walked off.
“What the hell was that?!” Y/N turned to Jake, anger burning in her eyes.
“I was just trying to stop you from making a mistake, Frosty. You can do better than that guy.”
“You don’t know a thing about him. God, that’s not even an opinion for you to have! You just wanted to be an ass per usual and ruin my night. Well great fucking job Hangman, you succeeded so you can run back to your new lady friend and leave me the hell alone!” The girl stormed out the bar doors, anger coursing through her so strongly, she was shaking.
 Unbeknownst to her, Jake followed her right out those doors. He wasn’t about to let her leave when she was so angry.
“Y/N.”
“Please Jake just go inside and leave me alone.” Y/N turned away from him, wiping the tears off her cheeks that were now freely flowing from her eyes.
Everything was just too much. Too much disappointment, too much heartbreak, and too much yearning for something she couldn’t have.
“Y/N.” Jake gently put his hand on her shoulder, turning the girl to face him. “I’m sorry I ruined your night darlin. That was not my intention.”
“No? Then what was your intention Jake because I do not understand.” Y/N wiped the last of her tears away and looked up into Jake’s green eyes. “I don’t understand any of this.”
“I was jealous.”
“Jealous? Jake, what are you talking about? You are the one who went to flirt with that gorgeous girl!”
“No, I didn’t. I bought her a drink, told her I appreciate her interest but it would never work out with us because I am crazy about someone else! I told her I knew another wonderful man she would like and introduced her to Bob! They are still in there talking if you don’t believe me. I wanted to talk to you! I wanted to flirt with you!  And I wanted to dance with you but when I found you, some other guy was trying to kiss you and it drove me crazy!”
All the breath left Y/N when she saw the sincerity in Jake’s eyes. Jake gently cupped the girls cheek, wiping away any stray tears. “I only want you darlin, and it drives me absolutely mad. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. All I can do is think about you and it has been that way since I met you.”
“Since you met me?” The girl gave him an amused smile.
“Oh yeah.” Jake flashed her his toothy grin. “Apparently you telling me to fuck off really got me hooked on you.”
Y/N laughed and moved closer to Jake. “Well apparently your asshole ways worked on me too. I didn’t want him, I just wanted a distraction from you.”
“I’m going to kiss you now Darlin.”
“Please do Jake.”
Jake wasted no time. He pulled the girl flush against him and connected their mouths. His lips warm against hers, breathing each other in with the intensity of the kiss. At that moment, there was no such thing as enough. The couple couldn’t get close enough, couldn’t kiss hard enough. Couldn’t get enough of each other.
Soon Jake had Y/N pressed against his truck, her dress riding dangerously high up on her thigh. Jake pulled back from the kiss just enough to whisper against the girl's now puffy lips. “I love this fucking dress on you. It’s been killing me all night.”
“Good.” Y/N whispered back. “I bought it for you.”
Jake groaned and played with the hemmed edge of her red sundress. “Let me take it off.”
“Fuck, yes please.” The girl groaned and moved a hand into his hair.
Jake opened the back door to his truck and set the girl inside gently before hovering over her. He pushed the skirt up to her hips, exposing a pair of lace panties. Jake groaned when he noticed the wet spot, darkening the blue lace. “Fuck darlin, did I make you this wet?”
“Yes Jake, only you.” Y/N moaned as the man ran his finger over her clothed slit.
Jake looked down at the girl, a smirk plastered on his face. “All mine pretty girl. You’re all mine.”
“Yours.” Y/N breathed, looking into his love filled green eyes. “I’m all yours.”

Inescapable, I'm not even gonna try
And if I get burned, at least we were electrified
I'm spilling wine in the bathtub
You kiss my face and we're both drunk
Everyone thinks that they know us
But they know nothing about
The temperature outside was getting increasingly warmer and Y/N’s father, Iceman decided to have the dagger squad over for a pool party. The older man wanted to meet her team and more importantly, the man who had stolen his daughter's heart.
Y/N never openly told her parents about her new boyfriend but they knew her well. Especially her father. He saw the way the girl's eyes lit up whenever she talked about a certain pilot and he couldn’t help but want to know more.
The devastating reality was that he didn’t have much time left. But, with what he did have, he wanted to make sure his daughter was putting her faith in the right people. Iceman was no stranger to the egos aviators could have and his little girl had worked her ass off to get where she was. She had proven herself to be more than just her last name. He had to make sure that this Hangman had no intention of hurting her. The other part of him was just genuinely curious. He had never seen her act this way about a boyfriend before.
For a short time when Y/N was growing up, Iceman thought maybe her childhood friend Bradley Bradshaw could be the one. He changed his mind when he saw that the two were better in a platonic way. Sometimes even referring to each other as brother and sister.
“Dad, can I get you another drink?” Y/N walked outside to where Iceman was sitting with Rooster.
“No, I’m alright sweetheart.” He smiled softly at his daughter.
“If you’re offering, I’ll take another beer.” Rooster spoke up.
“I don’t remember offering you one Roos but fine. Because I’m in a good mood.” She teased and walked back to the kitchen to grab herself and Rooster a drink.
Iceman turned to Rooster after he made sure Y/N had left. “Tell me about this Hangman I keep hearing about.”
“Hangman? Why do you want to know about him?” Rooster finished off the rest of his current beer and looked at Iceman “Wait..Hangman is Frosty’s mystery man?”
“It seems that way. I can tell by the way she talks about him.”
“I should have seen that coming with the way those two teased each other.” Rooster leaned back in his chair and sighed. “If you asked me a few months ago I would tell you he was the worst. But he has changed. Especially around her. I thought it was just because they had been flying together more. Obviously that's not it.” Rooster pushed the aviators up his nose. “He has an ego, but, he’s kinda like young Mav from the stories you’ve told me. He likes to push limits and always be the best but he is reliable at the end of the day, if they really are together, he’d do anything for her. I know he would. You know I love Frosty and if I thought he’d hurt her, well I’d be trying to drown him in the pool when he gets here.”
“I might have just let you.” Iceman smiled slightly, sipping his iced tea.
“Frosty can handle herself and I trust Hangman with her. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.”
“I’m glad to hear it.”
“Glad to hear what?” Y/N walked over, claiming one of the empty chairs at the table while she handed Rooster his beer.
“Nothing sweetheart.” Ice smiled and looked towards the kitchen. “Does your mother need any help?”
“Nope, Phoenix and Bob have taken over the kitchen with her. Mom also said and I quote. “If your father tries to get up and help me instead of relaxing, I will wack him on the head.” I think it’s safe to assume she wants you to stay sitting today.”
 Iceman laughed softly and nodded. “I love that woman.”
“I know you do, dad.” Y/N smiled and put her hand over his, occasionally glancing towards the front door, waiting for that familiar blonde to show up.
“Looking for someone?” Rooster smirked and nudged Y/N’s arm.
“No..why are you both being weird?”
“No reason.” Rooster smirked again and sipped his beer, sharing a glance with the older man.
“Okay you are being very cryptic today Roos. It’s weird. Knock it off..” Y/N trailed off when she heard the sweet sound of that southern draw she loved so much. “Hangman is here.” She stood quickly and walked to greet him. She thought she was being sneaky with her emotions, but her father did not miss the sparkle of absolute love in her eyes.
All of this silence and patience, pining in anticipation
My hands are shaking from holding back from you (ah, ah, ah)
All of this silence and patience, pining and desperately waiting
My hands are shaking from all this (ah, ha, ha, ha)
“You’re here.” Y/N smiled, walking into the living room where Jake stood with her mother.
“Course I am Frost. I’d never say no to a party and I’m very eager to meet your parents.” He smiled at Y/N and turned to her mother “I brought these for you mam, as a thank you for having me in your home.” He held up the small bouquet of flowers he had meticulously picked out before coming over.
“Oh that is so sweet! Thank you Jake. Please make yourself at home and let me know if you need anything.” She started walking towards the kitchen to put the flowers in a vase but turned back to her daughter before reaching the room. ‘I like him’ she mouthed, causing Y/N to blush and turn back to the man in front of her.
“So you are on a first name basis with my mom already. Impressive.”
“What can I say? Ladies find me charming. And Sarah is a peach.” He flashed her a grin and brushed his hand against hers. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too Jake. Thank you for coming..I mean it.”
“Honey you know I wouldn’t miss this, it’s important to you.” He took her hand and kissed it gently. “I will admit, I am slightly nervous to meet your father.”
“Oh yeah? That’s adorable.” She smirked up at him.
“I am adorable, it’s a known fact.” Jake smirked and pinched her hip with his free hand. “So are you going to show me your childhood bedroom? I am excited to see it..do you have boy band posters?”
“Shut up Jake.” She laughed softly. “Rooster is outback with my dad. I think Coyote made his way out there too. I’ll grab you a beer and we can go out there?”
“Sounds perfect pretty girl.” He kissed her cheek gently and walked outback with her after stopping to get him a beverage.
“Dad this is Jake Seresin, callsign Hangman. He’s a part of my squad and…my boyfriend.” She cleared her throat and looked around at everyone who had joined them outside.
“Boyfriend? Since when?!” Phoenix whispered to Bob who shrugged behind them.
“Since our night at The Hard Deck Phoenix. You didn’t notice?” He whispered back.
“But that was almost a month ago…” She mumbled.
“It’s an honor to meet you sir.” Jake ignored his friends surprise and held his hand out with a smile.
“You as well son. I have heard some incredible things about you.” Iceman took his hand and shook it, motioning to an empty chair with his other hand.
“Are you bragging about me darlin?” Jake grinned and looked at Y/N, taking a seat at the table.
“Absolutely not, your ego does not need to get any bigger.” Y/N playfully scoffed and took her own seat by him.
“It’s cute that you’re impressed by me. I’m impressed by you too.” He grinned and took her hand, kissing it softly.
Iceman watched the way Jake held her hand so tenderly and looked at Y/N with the same love sick expression the girl had shown for him earlier. It was clear to her father from that moment he truly had nothing to worry about. Jake Seresin was in love with his daughter and she was in love with him.
Say my name and everything just stops
I don't want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
Take it off
Carve your name into my bedpost
'Cause I don't want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
Take it off
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
The bright sun had faded into warm hues of orange and pink, reflecting off the crisp blue pool water as Y/N leaned against Jake. The man’s hand played with her fingers as he held her close, absolutely at peace.
“Jake?”
“Yes baby?”
“Are you happy?” The girl turned in his arms gently, looking into his gorgeous green eyes.
“Are you kidding me? Of course I’m happy. I have you.” He brought a hand up and cupped her cheek gently. “Why are you asking?”
“I don’t know. This all just feels too good to be true. Today was great and I’m slightly convinced this is a dream. It could be all the alcohol though.”
Jake let out a soft chuckle and pinched the girl's hip, causing her to pout at him. “Not a dream darlin. This is real.” He leaned his head down and kissed her once. “This is all I have wanted for years. Even when we were stationed apart. I craved you. I knew even then that I wanted you to be mine. I plan on putting a ring on this finger someday Y/N. That is how crazy I am about you.” He took her hand again and kissed her ring finger.
“You’re going to make me cry.” Y/N laughed softly and leaned her head on his.
Jake chuckled and kissed the girl’s hand once more. “One day. I promise.”
“One day.” Y/N smiled widely and kissed both of Jake’s cheeks. “I should go see if my mom needs help with the dishes.” Y/N slowly moved out of Jake's arms. “Do you want anything else to drink?”
“I’m alright darlin.” He smiled and kissed her hand before letting her go, unaware of Iceman making his way over.
“I’ve never seen her this happy before.” Iceman said and took a seat next to Jake. “Thank you for making her smile like that. It makes me feel better knowing she will have you.”
“You don’t have to thank me for loving her. I couldn’t help it even if I wanted to. She is the most wonderful woman I have ever met.”
Iceman smiled and patted Jake’s arm. “She is wonderful. But you still chose to be there for her every day. It means a lot to me and my wife. You are exactly the type of man I was hoping she would end up with.” Iceman sighed softly. “I don’t have much time left son. I know my family will be devastated which breaks my heart more than I can express, but when it comes to Y/N, I am worried. She shuts down. She pushes people away when she needs them most, she has done it since she was a child. I’m not sure if it makes her feel protected or if she thinks she needs to heal alone but I don't want that for her. Do not let her push you away. She needs you, and son, I can tell you need her too. Promise me?”
Jake turned to Iceman and swallowed down his emotion, eyes shining with unshed tears.
“I promise sir.”
“Thank you. You’re a good man Jake Seresin.” Iceman smiled and patted his shoulder again.
“I-I know this is a bit premature but I fully intend on marrying your daughter one day sir. Maybe I am a bit old fashioned but I think it is respectable to get your permission first.”
“You have it son.” Iceman smiled warmly and stood slowly. “Now if you’ll excuse me, all this talk about love has me missing my wife.” The older man made his way inside to find his wife as Jake watched, hoping one day this would be him and Y/N.

Flashback when you met me
Your buzzcut and my hair bleached
Even in my worst times
You could see the best of me
Flashback to my mistakes
My rebounds, my earthquakes
Even in my worst lies
You saw the truth in me
And I woke up just in time
Now I wake up by your side
My one and only, my lifeline
I woke up just in time
Now I wake up by your side
My hands shake, I can't explain this ah, ha, ha, ha
Y/N has barely spoken a word since she got the news. Now, standing next to her mother and siblings, staring at her fathers casket, she feels like she may never speak again. The air around them holds solemn tension as people mourn. Tears fall but it’s nothing but quiet for the man being laid to rest.
As the flag is being folded and the trumpets are playing, Y/N absentmindedly pinches her arm, desperately trying to wake up from this nightmare. She had just talked to her father last night, they made plans. The reality of him being gone just seemed too unreal for Y/N to fathom.
It wasn’t fair. Nothing about this was remotely fair and it drove Y/N crazy. Her father was one of the most caring and wonderful people she had ever had the luck of knowing. He didn’t deserve this.
Tears fell down her cheeks and Y/N let them flow freely. The girl felt numb and something as simple as wiping them away felt impossible. She felt heavy, wondering if the crowd around her could tell she was dying inside.
“Y/N, can you hear me?” The words broke through the surface of her numbness, bringing the girl back to the present as she looked up to Maverick standing in front of her.
“Sorry..I’m sorry.” She said softly and wiped her tears quickly.
“Don’t apologize. You just lost your father..I know how that feels and if you need anything, you know you can talk to me.” Maverick rubbed the girl's arm gently.
“Thank you Uncle Mav. I’m going to be okay..they need me to be.” She breathed out, looking towards her crying mother.
“Y/N, you do not need to be strong for anyone right now.”
“I’m fine Mav.” She snapped and sighed in regret. “I’m sorry..”
“It’s okay sweetheart.” Mav hugged her softly, only letting go when he noticed Jake and Bradley approaching. The tallest of the pair pulled Y/N into his arms tightly, whispering comforting things into her hairline while the girl stayed stiff, drifting back into the heavy waters.
Jake noticed almost immediately and patted Bradley’s shoulder. “Can you give us a minute Rooster?”
Bradley nodded slowly and let the girl go. “I’m going to check on your mom but if you need me, just yell.” He kissed her head and led Mav over to the girl's family.
Jake cupped the girl's face gently, wiping away some stray tears. “Hi baby”
Y/N looked up at Jake, bottom lip wobbling as she felt overwhelming tears coming. “Will you take me home? Please?”
“Of course baby. Whatever you need.”
“I can’t have what I need.” The girl whispered out, her gaze floating towards the casket once again.

Days passed in a blur and Y/N was merely surviving.
She stuck to her routine. Eat, when she could stomach it. Sleep, when she could turn her mind off. Work, when she wasn’t grounded, which was all the time lately. People were worried about her. From Admiral Simpson, to Maverick, to the dagger squad,  they did not want the girl in the air.
The person who was most worried, of course, was Jake. He could see her pulling away, closing herself off and trying to heal on her own just like Iceman had warned him would happen.
He had been staying at the girl's place for over a week just to keep an eye on her. Jake didn’t push her at first. He gave her some time to digest everything while he watched from the distance, making sure she didn’t drift too far into herself. But he saw her getting pulled under the surface of those internal waves. He could see her drowning. And enough was enough.
“Frosty, darlin, I made your favorite for dinner.” Jake called out while walking towards the living room where the girl was seated on the couch.
“I’m not hungry Jake.”
“You haven’t eaten anything all day Y/N. Just come take a few bites. I won’t be offended if you don’t finish it all. I do have to warn you though, I am an excellent cook.” He sat on the couch by her and put a hand on her knee gently.
“I said I’m not hungry!” Y/N snapped and stood quickly, his hand falling from her knee.
“Y/N..I’m just trying to help.”
“Well I don’t need your help Jake. I am a grown woman and I can take care of myself. Just go home. Please!”
“No.” Jake said quickly and stood.
“No? This is my apartment!”
“I’m well aware Y/N but I am not leaving you like this. I am not letting you push me away because you think that is easier. I promised your father I wouldn’t let that happen.”
“You w-what?” Y/N looked up at Jake, tears building up in her sore eyes.
“He made me promise because he knew you well. I told him I would not let you self-destruct and I am keeping that promise.”
“Well you’re off the hook now, he’s dead so he’ll never know! “
“God damnit Y/N.” Jake stepped closer to her and took both her hands in his. “Even if I didn’t make that promise I would still be here taking care of you.”
“Why?”
“Why? Why am I here for you? Because I love you Y/N! I want to be here for you. I want to hold you and take care of you. I want to bring you back to yourself because this is not you. You are mourning and that is understandable but you are barely living right now. You haven’t called your mom back in days. Your mother who you used to talk to every damn day. Fuck, Y/n, you have Cyclone worried that is how messed up you are right now. So please, if you can’t do this for yourself, do it for everyone who loves you including your dad because I know he is watching over you. Let me help you heal.”
“I miss him.” Y/N broke down in sobs, gripping the man's shirt for support.
“I know sweetheart. I know.” He pulled her into his arms and rubbed her back.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay Y/N.” He kissed her head gently.
“I love you so much Jake.” She clung to him as he let her sob. Body shaking, gut wrenching sobs. But Jake never let go.

Three months later and Y/N was feeling like her old self again. She had reconnected with her teammates, spent time with her family, and was even flying again. The pain of losing her father had not left completely. The absence of him was still very much felt, but the pain wasn’t crippling anymore. She had a life to live and she knew Iceman would want her to make the most of it.
Tonight in particular was special. The dagger squad was currently occupying most of The Hard Deck, celebrating a successful mission. Music was loud, drinks were flowing, and the company was comforting.
Y/N felt at home among her found family. She sang along with Rooster when he played Great Balls of Fire, like he always does. She danced with Bob, beat Javy at pool with Phoenix, and was smiling so much, her face hurt.
After all of the sorrow and heartbreak, this was what she needed. By the end of the night, the girl was feeling lighter than she had in months. Jake noticed it too. He could see the sparkle in her eyes, the light in her smile. It pulled on his heart, just making him fall more hopelessly in love with her.
“You’re staring at me honey. It’s getting weird now.” Y/N approached Jake and handed him a fresh beer.
“I can’t help myself darlin. You’re stunning.” He put a hand on her lower back and pulled her to him.
“My, my Hangman. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were smitten.”
“Baby I am hopeless when it comes to you. Head over heels, willing to do some embarrassing stuff to prove my love to you kind of hopeless.”
The girl tipped her head back and laughed softly, the sound music to Jake’s ears. “What kind of embarrassing stuff?”
“We’ll have to find out another day.” Jake kissed her nose.
Y/N laughed again, leaning into him. “I love you Jake.”
“I love you too Y/N.” He kissed her once and leaned his head on hers, pulling the girl ever closer than before.
Y/N looked up at him, eyes bright and smile wide. “You still want to marry me?”
“One day” Jake smiled down at the girl, wrapping his arms around her.
“One day.” Y/N smiled up at him, completely oblivious to the diamond ring burning a hole in Jake’s pocket.

I am begging BEGGING BEGGING for protective Jake Seresin? PLEASE?!?!?!
maybe reader’s ex comes looking for her, finds her at Hard Deck?
I got you!
Your head felt like it was being split in two, you felt pain shooting up from your brainstem like a wicked fog until every inch of your brain was melded into one thick layer of searing agony.
And he stood there in the makeshift parking lot with a scowl on his face and his piercing eyes. He was waiting for you while you stood firm on the bottom step of the bar, knowing full well that eyes were on you from inside. The usual crowd, the men and women you’ve come to know while you were here, some more obvious than others.
Rooster and Vida, the two who were coupled together and inseparable, his hand on her back while she bit her tongue. It wasn’t her battle to face, it was yours, but seeing your cheating ex after he destroyed you it had pissed her off to no end.
He was back, declaring that he was going to take you home because he felt like he owned you. There was never a wedding, there wasn’t even a full engagement.
And he…he chose to break you when he brought another woman into your bed.
“Get your ass down here-“
“No!” You cut him off, your mind turning to mush. “I already said no!”
“Dammit, Y/N!” He raised his voice and even over the music you knew Jake was watching you, listening for the moment he needed to step in.
“Get your ass in the vehicle, right now!” Your ex-fiancé was now a brute and maybe he had always been one, or maybe it was a new symptom.
“I’m not going-“
“Your mama said you moved across the country. Why’d you do that, huh? Why’d you move so far from me?”
“Don’t make me fucking drag you-“
“I’m not going back! I’m not going back to you, and I’m not going back home!” You denied him, you denied him again and again.
In your denial, you had left yourself open. He stalked toward you and ripped you down the steps with such force that your legs gave way. You fought against him and felt the crack of flesh on flesh, the sting immediate.
One minute he was angry, the next he was soft after he let you fall and reached for you again.
You cupped your cheek, vision blurring and your eyes watering. You stumbled to your feet, hands bruised and cut from the pebbles and the small stones on the makeshift gravel road. You stumbled again, shock running through you and it took you a moment to hear the eery quiet of the bar, there was no music, and the weight of watchful eyes was more intense.
You could hear chairs scraping across the wooden floor, it cut through like a knife, and the door opened with a heavy thud. You knew who was there, you knew that Jake Seresin was standing on the edge of the door with a seething anger in his veins.
“Come back inside.” Vida had called for you, stuck and blocked from your ex’s view by Rooster. “Sweetie, come back inside.”
“Get in the fucking vehicle! You’re going home!” He screamed, he took another step toward you before strong, heavy footsteps came down the stairs and crunched gravel beneath them.
“Darlin’,” that soft and smooth voice came as he came to pass you, unafraid of your ex or his rage, “go back inside.”
“Jake-“
“I’m not asking.” He looked back at you, his eyes locking on your own. “Go back inside, darlin’.”
You turned, coerced by his voice and the soft demand that meant safety and security. You were met by Vida and Penny, the two of them stealing you away into the bar and a wall of pilots sealing off the entrance.
From behind you you could hear Rooster speak. “Hangman, you good?”
“Yeah, Rooster. I’m good.” He still had that cocky twang, but there was an air of severity in his voice. “We’re just gonna have a little talk.”
“I’ll get some ice.” Penny left you to walk around the bar, moving quickly while Vida you to sit by a table, one that was isolated from the rest.
“Shit, Y/N-“ she paused when you waved her off and raised your head, your cheek already feeling swollen and sore.
“I’ll be okay, I swear.” Vida frowned and furrowed her brows, looking over her shoulder to spy Penny coming over with a bag of ice in one hand and a drink in the other.
“You’ll be okay.” She set both down and turned, taking a wide birth as those heavy steps back toward you. “Hangman, you need ice.”
“Thanks, Penny.” He didn’t take the seat by Vida like you expected, instead he had come to your side. “Let me see.”
“Just leave it-“ you turned your head and reached for the ice, his soft hands catching your chin.
“Let me see, darlin’.” He turned your head and you were captivated by his bright eyes, his captivating charm and charisma even when you were in such a state.
“Got the shit smacked out of me.” Your lips moved on their own accord, and Jake had cracked a grin in return. “Face hurts.”
“Hand hurts.” He trailed his fingers down the side of your face, marking the place where your bruise would be. “Knocked him on his ass.”
“You hit him?” You winced when Jake pressed the ice against your cheek, tenderly brushing your hair out of your face.
“Right on his ass. He was thrown back in his vehicle by Coyote, Fanboy and Payback.” Jake’s smile was small, and when Penny had delivered another few drinks, he had grabbed one glass and set it front of you.
“It’ll take the sting away.”
“Will it go down smooth?” You wondered, spying the liquor within the glass.
“Smooth enough, darlin’.”

You want to do something special for Jake’s birthday since he’s helping out so much with you and with Betty. With his special day coming up in the middle of the month, you and Serena went to The Lark and reserved a room for a private party and to select the food menu. The manager insisted on giving you their DJ for the night so there can be dancing. She also accompanied you to a well known bakery downtown to customize a cake.
You decided on a lemon-flavored cake with raspberry filling and buttercream frosting. You also requested it look like an aviator flight suit paired with Aviator sunglasses and Top Gun involved somehow.
“What are you going to give him as a gift?” Serena asks when you’re while you eat lunch after your birthday errands.
While you trust Reynolds not to say a word to Jake–it is a surprise party after all–you didn’t want there to be any chance of the surprise being blown. So you didn’t even ask him what Jake would want. You suppose you could ask Rhea, but she might let it slip on accident.
“I’m not sure…he has plenty of watches, multiple wallets, a billion ties…”
“I know what you could give him,” Serena smirks. “Birthday sex is always a winner.”
“Serena,” you groan. “I’m not going to do that.”
“Why not? It’d be the perfect opportunity! Or you can get sexy lingerie and do a boudoir photoshoot. Brynne knows a photographer and she can make it into a little book, it’d be perfect!”
“How am I going to afford that? I already spent so much on the room and food, The Lark isn’t cheap, S.”
“You have his credit card, right?”
“I’m not going to buy his gift with his own money, then it’s not a gift.”
“I think he’d be more than okay with that purchase, babe.”
You finish lunch in silence then when she drives you home, you pause before getting out. The drive gave you time to think.
“His birthday is in a few weeks…and he’ll be out of town for two days next week…will the book be done by then? Is she even available?”
“Yes! Ivy is wicked talented. I was thinking of doing one for Bradley so I’d love to see yours.”
“Really? You want to do one for Bradley?”
“Yeah, as a Christmas gift,” Serena shrugs.
“Christmas? Wow, you’re serious about him, huh?” you smile.
“He’s different than all the other guys I’ve dated,” she shrugs again.
“Yeah, he’s not a loser and he treats you the way you deserve. Wanna come in for some wine before Jake gets home?”
Tumblr media
You’re both on a third glass of wine sitting out by the pool when Jake arrives and you’re surprised to see Bradley in tow behind him.
“Have you ladies eaten?” Jake asks, eying the nearly empty wine bottle.
“We had salads at lunch,” you giggle.
“No meat?” Bradley asks.
“You’re here now,” Serena smiles coyly and then you both fall into each other in a fit of giggles.
“All right, not what I meant,” Bradley shakes his head but looks at Serena fondly. “I’m flattered, Pooks, but I meant protein. Or carbs to soak up your wine.”
“Pooks? What’s a Pooks?” you turn to Serena in confusion.
“You haven’t told her my nickname for you?” Bradley’s amused now and his eyebrows lift up.
“No, it’s a secret nickname!”
“I’ll keep a secret!” you nearly shout. Jake comes closer to you stroking your cheek with the back of his hand. You nuzzle against it before slipping your hand in his.
“I call her–”
“No, Bradley!”
“I call her Pookie,” Bradley grins, his voice louder than Serena’s.
You gush and squeal at the cuteness of it and Serena hides her face in her hands.
“You’re his Pookie! Aw!” You hug her and the guys laugh.
“Sugar, what’re you hungry for?” Jake asks, pulling out his phone.
“Mm, pizza!” you lean back towards him and stare up at him.
“Serena likes pasta,” Bradley mentions strutting over to Serena. He bends down to give her a kiss on the temple. “I’ll get you girls some water.”
Tumblr media
You ended up finding reasonably priced lingerie online, your favorite was a cream colored babydoll nightgown. Jake was gone on his two day trip so you had Ivy come to the house. You’d feel more comfortable taking photos at home and you finally feel comfortable calling it that. You invited Inez over so she could do your hair and makeup and she had words of encouragement for you before Ivy arrived.
Ivy was great and definitely boosted your confidence as she had you pose on his bed. She brought along some pearls and draped them over your breasts and shoulders as she snapped photos but you made sure to wear the earrings he bought you.
“Too bad he took his aviation jacket, that would have made a great photo,” Ivy comments while you change into a baby pink ruffled set. The top was off the shoulder and the bottoms were satin with a small pink bow on the front, the waistline pulled up onto your waist.
“You should do some in the pool,” Inez suggests. “He would absolutely lose his shit.”
“Ooh, water shots would be hot!” Ivy agrees.
“I’d have to be naked for those, right?” You bite your lip.
“Not necessarily. You can put on your last outfit and I’ll take some of those dry and you can wear it in the water.”
“Okay,” you nod.
The last outfit is also blush pink but the back is your favorite part because it has ruffles and a delicate bow that perches perfectly atop your ass. When you pose in the pool (you’re glad it’s heated) the fabric clings to your body. Inez is complimenting how hot you look. Ivy has you sit on the edge of the pool arching your back and head tilted upwards.
With the water and your movements, the straps of the negligee fall off your shoulders.
“Oh that’s perfect, bring your arms up so you’re pushing up your breasts a little…just like that!”
“Hey Ivy…if I were to be naked…how would you pose me?”
She poses you so that the photos will lead to the imagination of your bare body. As she shows you some of the photos you’re in awe at how you look, you didn’t think you’d look this good or like how you looked this much.
“I can have the book done for you the Wednesday before his party,” Ivy tells you as she gathers her things. You’re in a fluffy robe from your bathroom making a pot of tea in the kitchen. “Which one would you like as the cover?”
“This one…where I’m laying down on my stomach on the bed staring at the camera. I like my eyes in it and Jake always comments on my eyes…” you smile sheepishly, suddenly feeling giddy that he’ll be seeing these. You can’t wait to see his reaction.
“Done. I’ll get to working and adding sepia or black and white effects. Would you like me to deliver it at the flower shop?”
“That’d be great, then I can hide it.”
Tumblr media
“Hey, Sugar,” Jake calls you from his small office off the main entryway as you arrive home from work and the store. You felt the weight of the boudoir book in your purse as you entered his room. He has his laptop open and what looks like bills in front of him.
“Yeah?” you breathe in the doorway.
“C’mere a sec,” he motions you forward with his fingers. You step carefully inside and stand next to him in his chair, his arm wraps around your waist and you look down at his desk. You see credit card statements laid out in their trifold arrangement.
You gulp.
“Did you buy some new clothes?” he asks pointing to the statement while his other hand around you rubs circles into your waist.
“Um, yes,” you mumble.
“How come I haven’t seen them?”
“I”m sorry, I didn’t know–”
“What are you apologizing for?”
“Aren’t you mad I bought something?”
“No!” he pushes the statements away and swivels his chair so he can stand. He towers over you leaning against his desk, his hands cup your face. “Of course I’m not mad, I’m glad you used the card I gave you. Will I get to see these new clothes?”
“It’s just one dress and some accessories,” you bite your lip. Jake uses his thumb to pull your lip away, he smooths the small indent from your teeth.
“Can I see it?”
“I bought it for your birthday.”
“My birthday?” his brows furrowed and he fully sat on his desk. He spreads his legs so you’re standing between them and closer to him.
“Yeah, it’s in two days and I wanted to do something special. I thought we could go to The Lark for drinks and dinner?”
“It doesn’t have to be a big to do, Sugar. I’m fine if we stay in and watch movies eating takeout,” he shakes his head.
“You don’t want to go out?” you start to internally panic.
“It’s not that big a deal, just another day. And please don’t spend money on me, darlin’, okay?” he kisses your nose and rubs your backside affectionately. “Let me finish looking through these bills and we’ll have dinner.”
“Okay…” you murmur and exit his office like you’re a ghost.
Now how are you going to get him to his party?
You were thinking of different scenarios to get him to the restaurant without giving anything away throughout dinner and the movie Jake put on. When he asked if you were ready for bed, you followed him upstairs like a zombie and moved slowly through your night routine.
“Are you all right?” he asks once you crawl into bed.
“Huh?”
“You’ve been acting weird since I asked you about the dress you bought, I swear I’m not mad at you.”
“No, I know you’re not I just…have other things on my mind.”
“Is it Betty?”
“No, she’s fine,” you shake your head. “Work stuff.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” he leans on his elbow staring at you with his pretty green eyes.
“It’s all right,” you fall onto your pillow snuggling into him. “Sorry I was distracted tonight.”
“Let me know what I can do to help,” he hugs you to him and kisses the top of your head. His hands rub over your shoulders and back.
“Can we go to The Lark for your birthday? I grew up going out to dinner for birthdays and I want to do that for you,” you confess into his chest. You hold your breath waiting for an answer.
“You really want to?” the motions of his hands slow a bit.
“Yeah, I sort of bought that dress especially for your birthday,” you stress.
“You did mention that…” he murmurs and you feel his smile against your hair. “Okay, we’ll go to The Lark for my birthday. I’m dying to see this dress.”
“Yay!” You lift your head from his chest and give litter his face in quick kisses.

You took the day off from work to place some decorations in the room where Jake’s party will be held. Serena and Bradley came over to help as well, their height really came in handy with setting up the photobooth area.
“I can’t believe Jake let you set this all up for him,” Bradley says, tying off a silver balloon and tossing it in front of the shimmery backdrop.
“What do you mean?” you ask scattering ‘Happy Birthday' confetti on the round table where the cake and presents will go.
“He hates his birthday, ever since I’ve known him he’s spent the day alone or takes up extra hours at work so no one makes a big to-do about it.”
“He hates his birthday?! Why?” You gasp and panic sets in again.
“Not sure,” Bradley shrugs, “but he’ll do anything for you, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.”
“He doesn’t even know it’s happening, this is all a surprise, B,” Serena says blowing up another black balloon.
“Really?” Bradley’s eyes widen but when he meets your gaze he quickly goes back to normal. “It’ll be fine, y/n. He lo–he’ll love it because you set this up for him.”
“Are you sure? What if he had a traumatizing moment from a surprise birthday party when he was younger and now I’m going to ruin his birthday even more?!”
“y/n, it’s going to be fine,” Serena says and glares at Bradley. “Jake’s crazy about you and you could kill a hundred people and he wouldn’t bat an eye to helping you hide the bodies.”
“That’s morbid,” Bradley mutters.
“You know I’m right. He’s going to love your dress, he’s going to love that you planned this all for him and he’s going to love your gift. We’ll take care of the rest of the set-up, you go home and get ready. I’ll make sure everyone is in position by the time you get here.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive,” Serena nods, “Go home and get the birthday boy.”
Tumblr media
Your mind was racing of all the possible reactions Jake could have to his surprise party and they were all on the negative side. You should have asked his friends if he would have liked a birthday party. Should you have invited his family? You have yet to meet them and now with you not inviting them, they’ll hate you?
Your head was pounding by the time your shower was done and you tried not to overthink as you did your hair and makeup. Nervously, you kept checking the clock for when Jake will be home. You’d told him reservations would be for seven and you had just finished slipping into your satin dress when you heard a low whistle behind you.
You spun around to see Jake leaning against the doorframe ogling you in your dress.
“Jake! I wanted to make a big appearance in this!” you pout, lifting the fabric in your fingers as you walk to the couch where your shoes are.
“I’d say I’m sorry but I’d be lying. You look so damn good,” he drawls moving in front of you.
He kneels on the floor in front of you as you fit your shoes on, his own fingers replacing yours as he lifts your foot on his thigh. With slow precision he fastens the buckle then does the other foot and skims his fingers up your calf and over the smooth satin of the dress.
“Jake,” you warn, he leans his upper body over your lap while his eyes drag over the dress.
“What? I’m admiring this dress my girl bought just for me to see her in it. I want to enjoy it before the rest of the world sees you,” he says and kisses your shoulder. “I was going to wait until Christmas but I have a necklace that would fit perfectly right here…”
His lips press to the apex of your breasts where you did want to wear a necklace but couldn’t find one that would suit the dress.
“You do?” you drag his face from your chest so you can look into his eyes. “What’s it look like?”
“It’s a drop necklace with two diamonds,” he smiles. “Would you like to wear it?”
“Maybe,” you bite your lip. “But if it was a gift for Christmas–”
“I changed my mind. Pretend it’s a gift you bought. I’ll be right back.”
He darts away to his closet then rushes out holding a long black box which he opens when he kneels in front of you again. You gasp quietly as you peer into the box, the delicate chain sparkles but the diamonds are even more glamorous.
“Jake! This is stunning,” you breathe.
“Let me put it on you, Sugar.”
He removes the jewelry and unclasps the hook just as you hold up your hair in your hand. He leans around you and you suck in a breath at the coolness of the diamonds on your skin and Jake clasps it together. His lips kiss your neck, shoulder, and clavicle bone before capturing your lips.
“Beautiful,” he mumbles.
“You haven’t even seen it on me,” you giggle into his kiss. Your fingers curl into his hair.
“Don’t have, already know it’s beautiful on you.”
You continue to kiss quietly and then your phone dings in a notification and you remember you’re on a time crunch.
“Jake,” you gasp but his lips shift to below your ears. “We need to go to the restaurant and you have to change.”
“I’m not done admiring you yet…”
His hand has slid up the slit of your dress, his thumb presses into your inner thigh and he nibbles on the lobe of your ear. You almost give in and want him to do whatever he wants to you but then you remember there’s a roomful of people waiting for him.
“The sooner we go to dinner the sooner we can come back and I can give you your present birthday boy,” you push him off you and his eyes are slightly crazed.
“You got me a present?”
“Mhm, and you’re not getting it until after dinner.”
He stares into your eyes for a beat, then down at the necklace and your dress before he scampers off to his closet. You hear hangers rattling and some grunting so you stand up and spritz some perfume on. The notification on your phone was from Serena saying they’re ready for you.
“Okay, let’s eat as fast as we can.”
Tumblr media
When you arrive at the restaurant your stomach is in knots because you’re still nervous as to how he’s going to react to the party. The host plays her part by saying every table is full so you’ll have to move upstairs. Jake holds your hand up the stairs.
“What–”
The doors open and you push Jake forward so he can see the full effect as everyone shouts ‘Happy Birthday!’ Jake squeezes your hand as confetti poppers explode over the both of you. He faces you, eyes wide.
“Surprise,” you whisper. “Please don’t be mad.”
“Mad? Why would I–”
Rooster and Coyote pull him from you declaring he needs birthday shots and drags him to the bar in the corner of the room. Music is already playing and food is placed on the tables. The girls take you away next and you don’t see Jake until it’s time to cut his cake.
By that time, he’s slightly intoxicated and pulls you into him as everyone sings Happy Birthday to him.
“Are you mad?” you ask trying to steady the both of you as he dances along to the singing.
“Why would I be mad? You threw me a surprise birthday party, Sugar, no one’s ever done that for me before. I’m having a great time.”
“You are?”
“Blow out the candles Bagman!” Phoenix shouts from the lap of Brynne at the nearest table.
Jake sloppily blows them out and hugs you close again.
“Why do you think I’d be mad?” he asks into your shoulder.
“Bradley said you don’t like your birthday–”
“I have mixed feelings about it, but you did this. For me. This is the best birthday ever,” he stares into your eyes. “Thank you for doing this for me, Sugar.”
You frame his cheeks and give him a kiss that is borderline inappropriate given the present company. There’s catcalls and wolf whistles when Jake’s hand drops lower onto your ass which makes you laugh.
The rest of the evening is spent taking photos at the photobooth and dancing on the dancefloor with Jake. Turns out he loves Frank Sinatra and his crooning voice made the night even more magical. The night ended with just the two of you dancing along to the duet of ‘Somethin’ Stupid’ with Nancy Sinatra and Jake loves to spin you around.
You feel as if you’re in a movie and while dancing with him, all that’s wrong in the world disappears. It’s just you and him.
Tumblr media
Back at home, you drag Jake up to his bedroom and sit him down on the edge of his bed. He removes his tie and jacket, tossing them in the corner of the room. Your shoes were off as soon as you entered the house and it felt nice to walk on the plush carpet.
“Where are you going?” he asks your back as you go into your closet of his room.
“I have a birthday gift for you, remember?”
You quickly remove your dress and put on the pink lingerie set with the bow and cover up with a robe. When you’re back in his room he’s laid back on the bed, arms wide, staring up at the ceiling.
“Hey, no sleeping yet birthday boy. Sit up,” you sit next to him.
When he sees what you’re wearing, he shoots straight up then looks at the gold wrapped gift in your lap.
“This is for me?” he smiles resting his hand over yours.
“Happy Birthday, Jake.”
You hold out the gift and he grabs it. You hope he can’t hear your heart beating as he tears away the paper, you purposefully wrapped it upside down so he’d have to flip it over to see the cover. When he does, you hold your breath and he stares at the image of you staring up at him in black and white. He seems frozen so you flip the cover open and you see the photo of you laying on the bed with the pearls.
Jake’s fingers trace over the string of pearls softly before turning the page. You sit quietly trying to gauge his reaction and you see a slight smile on his face the more he flips through the book.
“When did you do this?” he finally breaks the silence when he’s halfway through.
“Last week while you were gone.”
He’s silent again as he continues and then it’s the pool photos. He groans when he realizes you’re completely nude. You notice he’s shifting on the bed and at the very last page he reads your inscription to him before closing the book.
“Sugar, this is–”
“One more surprise,” you interrupt him and unfold your legs from under you. You stand up and remove your robe, letting it pool at your feet as you stand before him in the lingerie piece.
“What…” he sets the book down on the floor carefully, his eyes scanning over you slowly. “What did I do to deserve you?”
His voice is a little hoarse and scratchy and it elicits some dampness to form between your legs. In one swift motion, Jake lifts you by the backs of your thighs and you’re suddenly staring at him above you. On the same thought, you tug him down as he presses himself against you in a heated kiss. Your fingers pop open the button of his dress shirt, the pads drifting over his chest hair. You try to tug the shirt off but he breaks away.
“No, no, this is all about you, baby,” he shakes his head sliding down the bed, pulling you with him until you’re at the very edge.
He spreads your legs slightly and drags his hands to the flimsy fabric of your panties, dragging them down and off you. He parts your legs more, your heart is racing as you watch him raised on your elbows.
“But it’s your birthday–”
“You’re all I need.”
He kisses up your left leg, teeth nibbling every now and then as he rests your leg on his shoulder. He does the same thing to your right leg and you’re elevated to his mouth.
“Look at you, so pretty for me,” he mumbles brushing a knuckle to your wet core. Your legs jolt at the contact and you’re hot all over. “Can I make you feel good, Sugar?”
His green eyes are blazing as he gazes up at you and you can’t find the words to speak so you just nod.
“Use your words, baby.” His pinky glides up your slit and that somehow brings back your voice.
“Yes…please,” you whimper.
Jake hums and with a smirk he lowers his mouth to your very center and when you feel his hot breath and wet tongue, you fall back onto the bedspread. He uses his tongue and lips in a way that makes it feel like he has three tongues. He suckles and laps in all the places you never knew existed, and then a newfound stretch of his finger slipping inside you has you moaning.
“Oh, Jake,” you sigh. Your hands fly to his hair guiding him to where your body is reacting the most to his actions. He hums and slips his tongue inside you along with his finger. Your mouth opens and your toes curl.
Soon, your body is rocking with the motions of his ministrations, your legs clamping around his head. He’s making you hot, your lower back becomes slick with sweat and your stomach is full of butterflies. His one hand is gripping your thigh, his thumb rubbing circles and then he does something with his mouth and you practically scream. You bite onto your knuckles.
“I wanna hear you, Sugar,” he mumbles and makes an obscene slurping noise. “So fucking wet…goddamn.”
He devours you, putting his whole body into pleasuring you and you feel the muscles in his back stretch and flex. It’s like a band inside you is about to snap and when another finger is inserted and his tongue is moving at an even quicker pace, you rise up.
The band starts to snap and you clutch his face to your core as your orgasm explodes out of you. You’re whimpering and moaning and saying words that don’t even sound like English until you fall back on the bed and enjoy the lingering part of your orgasm. Your fingers fall from his hair and he’s still working his mouth over you, milking the remnants of your orgasm.
“Oh my God,” you squeak and drag your hands up your body and over your breasts. You give them a squeeze, feeling the hard peaks of your nipples through the thin fabric.
Jake doesn’t let up and your legs start to shake, your breathing turns into pants.
“Jake, I’m going to–”
“Cum for me again, Sugar,” he encourages and as if your body was waiting for the command, you do.
This orgasm is more warm and languid, turning your body into jelly. You feel like you’re floating and Jake removes his fingers from you slowly but your body reacts from the loss.
“Sorry, Sugar, I’ll be more gentle,” he coaxes and kisses your pussy delicately before lifting his head.
You tilt your head so you can see him, his lips and chin are glistening with your orgasm and that makes you hot all over again.
“You know, I loved the birthday cake you got for me,” he says crawling over you. He swipes the moisture from his chin and sucks on his thumb. “But you’re my favorite flavor.”

You’re usually pretty good about handling your alcohol, you don’t mix and you can tell when your cut off limit should be but with everything going on with Betty and the new ‘relationship’ with Jake, you exceeded your limits. Normally, you don’t go out with your employees, Serena, Dom and Brynne but after a rough week of late deliveries, an extended stay on Betty’s part and eating dinner alone at Jake’s, you needed a night out.
They took you to the best known dive bar that served cheap rail drinks and the best cheese fries you’d ever tasted. After your second strawberry daiquiri, you were spilling about Jake’s arrangement and they listened with open ears and wide eyes.
“I say sign it, girl,” Brynne says placing her decorative umbrella in her hair. “He’s hot, he’s attentive, and he’s loaded.”
“I agree,” Dom says, “if you feel guilty using it for yourself, then keep using it for Betty. I bet the sex is great with him.”
“We haven’t had sex!” you nearly choke on your cherry that was placed in your bright red drink.
“Are you crazy? Girl, he wants you so bad,” Brynne shakes her head.
“C’mon guys, you know how y/n is,” Serena pats your back, “she’s thinking of all angles. You have to admit, it does all seem too good to be true.”
“What do you mean?” Dom asks.
“I don’t get why it’s me, he could have someone way better looking and–”
Dom clapped his hand over your mouth, his eyes stern and shaking his head.
“No, you’re cute and adorable and sexy and he’s right to have chosen you. You’re the cream of the crop, the diamond in the rough, the–”
“I think she gets it,” Brynne removes his hand from your mouth. “But Dom’s right. Jake’s probably caught in his feelings and this arrangement guidelines crap, he’s not sure what to do. But he wants you, that’s for sure.”
“But how do you know?” you stress and slap your hand on the high-top table for added emphasis.
“It’s in his eyes,” Serena answers, sipping at her apple martini carefully. “He looks at you like he’s never seen daylight or has experienced a sunset for the first time.”
“Impossible,” you shake your head.
“No, it’s true, babes,” Dom says. “He’ll confess his love to you soon, I’m sure of it.”
“I don’t want to get too into my feelings about this,” you wave your hands as if the conversation of Jake would disappear like an etch-a-sketch. “Let’s drink because the work week is done.”
“Hear, hear!” Dom clinks his glass with yours.
But the more you drink the more Jake keeps coming into your mind. The more you drink the more you think of his green eyes and back to what he meant about pleasuring you in your flower shop. What did that mean? Were you that seducible? Could you succumb so easily to his advances?
While your three friends were at the bar getting more drinks and shots, you found yourself scrolling through Jake’s social media profiles. It really was unbelievable how attractive he was and the fact that he was somewhat yours? You knew if you texted him you needed money for drinks he would transfer some over instantly.
Everyone else thought it was a good idea but it was your good conscience that kept interrupting. Was that a bad thing or a good thing? Peering over your third daiquiri of the night that your friends were still busy, you thought it was a good idea to call him.
It rang and rang and rang then went to his voicemail so you left a message.
“Hello, it’s me,” you sigh, “I’m out at Crazy Pete’s or Pete’s Crazy Saloon or something like that with Brynne, Dom and Serena and they think I should sign the arrangement. They think you’re hot. And it will help Betty. Your money not your hotness. Anywho, I’m a liiiitle tipsy and these daiquiris are very yummy. I don’t know where Reynolds is but I’ll get home. I do think you’re cute by the way so don’t think I don’t, okay?”
And for good measure, you went to Snapchat, chose a filter that placed pretty purple butterflies on your cheeks and took a dozen selfies before sending them to him via text message. It made you feel giddy inside because you were wearing one of his outfits he bought for you.
By that time, everyone else came back and you took a lemon drop shot, making sure to lick up the sugar on the lemon thinking how you’d want to kiss Jake with sugar on your lips.
The night went on and when you came out of the bathroom for the third time, someone else was standing at the table with your friends. When you came closer, you caught a whiff of the familiar scent of Jake’s cologne and when he turned around, it was Jake.
“Jake! What are you doing here?” you squeak but lean into him nonetheless.
“I got your voicemail and adorable selfies so I wanted to stop by and make sure you were okay,” he wraps an arm around your shoulders making sure you don’t fall over. “You didn’t respond to my texts at all, Sugar.”
“I’m sorry,” you pout, “I was having fun.”
“I know,” he caresses your pout away, “have all the fun you want, I’m not stopping you. Just want to make sure you get home safe since Reynolds isn’t here.”
“Reynolds is a babe,” Dom points his finger at Jake. “Is he single?”
“I’m pretty sure he is, yeah,” Jake smiles, “want me to put in a good word for you?”
“Shut up! Yes, please!” Dom nods his head enthusiastically.
“Aw, you two would make a lovely couple!” you gush leaning over the table to cup Dom’s cheeks together. “You have such a handsome face and he has a cute one. He could drive you everywhere.”
“That’s his job for you, Sugar,” Jake murmurs in your ear. His voice tickles  your lobe and it makes you giggle, pulling away from Dom.
“When he’s not with me,” you turn your neck to him, it causes your noses to touch. “I’m usually with you, right? So they can go out when we’re out.”
“I like that idea,” he smiles. His arm drops around your waist. “Can I get you anything to eat?”
“Pizza!” you and the rest shout in excitement.
“I’ll be right back,” he gives you a chaste kiss to the temple, sets you on the seat and then heads towards the bar.
“Girl,” Dom squeals grabbing your wrist. “Please, sign the papers, take him to bed, marry him, I don’t care. He’s a keeper.”
You turn around in your seat, teetering a little from the off kilter chair legs to watch him converse with the bartender. You know he’s smiling and being his charming self and it warms your heart, he really is wonderful and you decide to let him know when he comes back.
“Pizza’s on the way and I brought over some water,” Jake announces upon his return. Before he can set the pitcher down, you throw your arms around him. “Woah! Careful, darlin’.”
“Thank you for coming here and ordering pizza when you didn’t have to,” you murmur in his shoulder/neck.
“You’re welcome, Sugar. Wanted to see you, you’ve been comin’ home late,” he kisses the top of your head. Butterflies form in your stomach.
“We try telling her to to go home at a reasonable hour,” Serena interjects, “but she doesn’t listen.”
“Yeah, order her to go home on time, Lieutenant,” Dom smirks.
You stick your tongue out at Dom which he responds with a kiss in the air in your direction.
“I’m not in the air force so that won’t work,” you huff.
“And I like her feistiness,” Jake squeezes your waist.
He’s a good sport for the rest of the evening, taking care of you by making sure you’re drinking enough water and keeps guard outside the bathroom door while you use it. It’s when you hobble on your feet that he decides it’s time to go home. To your surprise and true to his word, he calls Reynolds up to take your friends home, Dom fixes his shirt and hair in preparation.
“You take care of our girl, okay?” Brynne says over your head as she hugs you.
“With my life,” Jake vows. “You three get on home, safe, now. I’ll make sure you’re over for brunch and a pool day soon.”
“Wow, you’re the whole package,” Serena says.
“Serena!” you gasp but Jake just laughs.
“I’m working on this one to see that,” he pinches your cheek affectionately. “Ready, Sugar?”
“Yeah,” you sigh heavily, “my feet hurt.”
“They do?” he frowns and secures your cross body bag over his own before lifting you up into his arms. “We can’t have your feet hurtin’.”
“What are you doing?!” you shriek clinging onto his shoulders for dear life. The sudden movement from standing to being held threw your inebriated self off.
“Carrying you,” he replies smugly and starts walking to his truck.
“My feet aren’t broken.”
“But they hurt, so I’m helping. And when I help you, what are you supposed to say?”
You mumble in response.
“What? I didn’t catch that?” he drops his head lower so his ear is closer to your mouth.
“Thank you!” you nearly shout then giggle when he dramatically pulls away.
While he carries you it gives you an opportunity to stare at him. He’s got a bit of beard growth going on and you barely think once before pressing your palm to his chin and cheek.
“Is it illegal to have a beard in the Air Force?”
“Not illegal, no,” he grins, “we just have to be clean-shaven. It’s not fun when you’re sweatin’ in the cockpit with a beard. I don’t know how Rooster does it with his ‘stache.”
“Rooster?” you laugh. “Who’s that?”
“My wingman, he has a 70’s porno stache and I don’t know how he can work with that thing over his lip,” Jake shakes his head.
“His name is really Rooster?”
“No, sweet girl, that’s his call sign. We all have them, so we know who’s who in the air and the enemy doesn’t really know who we are.”
“Oh,” you continue to stroke your fingers over his cheek and jaw. “What’s your callsign?”
“I don’t want to tell you.”
“Why not?”
“Because when I do and I tell you the meaning, you’ll stop touching me like you are,” he glances at you.
“Well, I know it’s not the devil or satan so how bad could it be? Please tell me, I want to know.”
His eyes move to yours again and he sighs.
“Fine. They call me Hangman because in my earlier days of flight school and training, I always left my teammates in the dust so I could show I was the best.”
“Hangman…Hangman…” you let it sink into your muddled brain then shake your head. “That’s not how you are at all. Can’t we change it?”
“Nah, sweetheart, that’s my callsign until I retire. What would you change it to?”
“Hmm,” you hum tracing your finger under his chin, his jaw, then to the shape of his ear closest to you. “Wizard.”
“Wizard? Why that one?” he laughs.
“Because, your eyes are emerald green and it makes me think of the Wizard of Oz. He helped Dorothy home and you make me feel like I’m home.”
“I do?” he glances at you again, his arms tightening around you.
“Yeah. I’m working on showing you that more. I do appreciate all that you do for me, Jake, I’m still getting used to it all.”
“That’s okay, I’ll keep doing it until you feel comfortable, Sugar.”
“Would that be my callsign? Sugar?” you perk up at the nickname.
“Yeah, I think so, ‘cause there’s no one sweeter than you.”
“No, you’re pretty sweet, too, Jake,” you rest your head on his shoulder. The walk to his truck is very long but you’re okay being in his arms a little longer. “Who takes care of you?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, you take care of me…and Betty and…the other women you’ve been with…who takes care of you?”
“No one, really,” he shakes his head and you frown.
You shift your cheek higher up on his shoulder and hold onto his cheek so you can angle his face towards yours, his gait slows down so he can look at you. His whole demeanor has softened and he’s staring at you in a way you’ve never been looked at before. Was Dom right? Does Jake always look at you like this?
“Can I take care of you?” you ask quietly and he stops walking. You’re standing under the orange streetlights, the color of his eyes have darkened but they’re still your favorite shade.
“How would you do that?”
“Well…I can’t pay for everything but I can listen about your work day, your thoughts…dreams you’ve had and we can watch your favorite shows. I’ll learn how to make your favorite foods if you’d like. And I can…” you bite your lip suddenly embarrassed.
“You can what?”
“Help you fall asleep so you don’t have circles anymore,” you touch beneath his eye at the darkened bloom of his skin.
“How’d you do that?” he smiles into your palm, nuzzling into your touch.
“Well, you say you’re good at massages…I’m good at playing with hair and humming people to sleep.”
“Yeah? Can I test that theory tonight?”
“Sure, whose bed is comfier? Mine or yours?”
“They both have the same mattress, Sugar,” he smiles then starts walking again but you hear the click of his truck door opening. He sets you in the seat, hands buckling you in and he closes the door moving to his side before you can respond.
You rest against the headrest, staring at him as he sits in his spot and starts the truck.
“Can I try your bed?” you reach over holding onto his forearm. His eyes meet yours, flickering to your hand on his arm then back again.
“You have no idea what those words do to me,” he sighs, “but yes, we can sleep in my bed tonight. If that’s what you want when we get home.”
You smile then start chattering about the evening before he arrived. As soon as he pulled onto the highway, however, you fell fast asleep, your hand still poised on his forearm. As much as he wanted to bring you into his own bed, he just couldn’t do it with you fast asleep like that so he made sure your shoes were off and that your pajamas were laid out on the bench at the end of your bed.
“G’night, Sugar,” he kisses your forehead then retreats to his room alone. He hopes he’ll know what it’s like to sleep next to you soon.

pairing: Jake "Hangman" Seresin x reader
warnings: none, just fluff.
summary: you give Jake a new nickname.
word count. .6k, quick one.
Tumblr media
You were sitting on your couch watching the television shows that Jake didn’t like until he got home. They were old Project Runway reruns from seasons before you’d started watching. You only watched the show when Jake wasn’t around because he found them boring as he told you. The clothes all looked ‘ridiculous and uncomfortable.’ he said. He ‘couldn’t get his flight suit over any of them’ so they ‘didn’t serve a purpose.’ Despite the fact that you enjoyed the show, Jake's reasoning was adorable to you so you didn’t complain that you had to watch them alone.
You heard the front door open and looked over your shoulder to see your husband Jake walking through the door. He made a beeline for you before you could even stand. He took your face in his hand and kissed you softly before he fell down onto the couch with you. Jake laid his head down in your lap. He took your hand and placed it on his hair, closing his eyes. You chuckled.
“Did you want something, babe?” You teased him. He rubbed his cheek against your thigh.
“Head scratches, please?” He requested. You smiled above Jake as you began combing your fingers through his hair and dragging your nails over his scalp. He made a small noise that sounded like a purr and you giggled.
“Just like a puppy, I give you head scratches and you curl up in my lap,” you teased.
“It was a hard day,” he complained. “One of the new recruits got me during dogfight practice.”
“Well, that’s good, puppy,” you told him. “It means you’re teaching them well.”
“But I don’t want them to be better than me!” He whined against your thigh. “Then I’m not the best.” You leaned down and kissed his forehead.
“You’ll always be the best, puppy,” you assured Jake. “You’re the only active-duty pilot with two air-to-air kills,” you said, reiterating the accomplishment that he never stopped bragging about. Jake huffed, knowing you were teasing him. You twirled a tuft of his hair around your finger as you continued to scratch his head. “And you’re my favorite pilot.” He smiled, eyes still closed.
“That’s all that matters then,” Jake said. He turned his head and opened his eyes so he was looking up at you. “Kiss?” He asked. You smiled warmly. You loved when he was like this.
Some days he came home and it had been just a hard enough day that he knew if he let you shower him in affection that would be plenty to make the day good again. He would be so sweet and soft with you on those days. There was no part of him that thought you would reject him, but usually he preferred to be the one who showered you in affection. You leaned down and kissed him tenderly. You ran your fingers through his hair one last time before you let your hand rest on his chest.
“What do you want for dinner, puppy?” You asked. Jake raised an eyebrow.
“That nickname is going to stick, isn’t it?” He asked. You giggled.
“You don’t like it?” You asked. Jake blushed slightly. You smirked. “I can stop if you don’t like it,” you told him.
“No, I like it,” he said bashfully. “Just not around the guys. I don’t want Rooster to know,” he finished.
“What? That you’re my little puppy?” You teased him.
“He’ll never let me hear the end of it,” he told you. You laughed softly. You leaned down and kissed his nose.
“Okay, puppy,” you promised. “It can be just for us.” Jake hummed happily.
“That’s how I want everything to be anyway."

Brother's Best Friend - Part 11
Jake Seresin x F!Reader
A/N: Fair warning: I didn't have much time this week so this was a bit rushed and definitely not my best piece of work, but I really wanted to do at least *something* for the holidays!
Summary: The trials and tribulations of falling for your brother's best friend.
CW: New Years Eve party, banter, fluff fluff fluff
WC: ~2300
Part 1 | Masterlist
Tumblr media
“So,” Bradley starts slowly, drawing out a suspenseful silence with a smirk as he butters his toast. “I met study group guy.”
You look up from your plate in alarm, your fork halfway to your mouth, and awkwardly meet your brother’s gaze.
Jake, who’s just set his food down to your left, picks his coffee back up, ready to make a quick exit.
“Uh, where?” you ask, trying to sound casual, but you’re so nervous that your voice wavers.
“Here,” Bradley replies with a grin as he makes his way to the table. “He came by to see how your exam went.”
“Oh?” You gulp anxiously.
“How considerate of him,” Jake notes moodily, setting his coffee back down and giving you a look.
“I agree.” Bradley sits down. “I think he wanted to compare study strategies,” he continues, then clears his throat. “Since the two of you didn’t end up studying together.”
Jake’s eyes go wide as he lets out a feigned gasp. “You didn’t?”
You give Jake an annoyed look and then glance back at your brother who is watching you with a pair of raised eyebrows. “Yeah,” you nod, “about that. Umm, the thing is…”
“You lied?” Jake brings a hand to his chest as though this revelation continues to shock him.
You glare at him irritably. “Partly.”
“Which part?” Bradley enquires, biting into his toast.
You sigh. “The part about study group guy.”
Bradley grimaces. “Why?”
“Yeah,” Jake chimes in, finally taking a seat. “Why?”
“Because I obviously made the wrong decision studying at home,” you retort, eyeing Jake bitterly. “And I just needed somebody to blame.”
Jake watches you cautiously, likely wondering if you indeed think you’ve made a mistake. Good.
“So, you bombed your midterm, big deal.” Bradley waves a hand. “We wouldn’t judge you. Guess that means he won’t be attending tonight’s party.”
You purse your lips. “Nope,” you confirm. “I’ll be all alone.”
Jake tries to catch your gaze as you rise from the table. “We’ll be here.”
“Aren’t you gonna bring your girl?” Bradley asks.
“Nah.” Jake waves a hand.
“Why not?”
Jake eyes you pointedly. “Not really sure where we stand, to be honest.”
You gasp theatrically. “Oh dear! Trouble in paradise?”
Jake throws you a flat look and grumbles, “Well, she’s sort of hard to read at times.”
“Because you’re illiterate?” you retort.
Bradley snorts while Jake scoffs in offence. “Dump her!” Bradley cries as you bring your dishes to the sink. “Life’s too short for mysteries.”
Jake sighs. “She does love to keep me guessing.”
Bradley shakes his head in disapproval after taking his last bite. “She’s playing games with you, man. It’s not worth it.” He gets up and follows you to the sink. “How ‘bout you? You need a date for tonight?”
“Huh?” you say in surprise, having been under the impression that your turn under the microscope was over.
“Remember that dude you met at the Hard Deck last summer? The one you said was ‘so hot’” – Bradley visibly shudders – “I just found out that he’s into you.”
“What dude?” Jake asks abruptly, his posture instantly going rigid.
“The one from 22,” Bradley clarifies. “The backseater. Forgot his name.”
“The douche from Michigan?” Jake makes a face and quickly rises from the table. “You think he’s hot?” he asks you incredulously.
Before you have a chance to respond, Bradley continues. “Apparently he ran into you last week at the café?”
You blink between Bradley and Jake as the latter approaches. While it’s true that you saw one of Bradley’s colleagues the previous week, you’ve since forgotten all about that encounter, because the very next day was when Jake had finally made his move. You start to back out of the kitchen but both Bradley and Jake follow you out. “I have some errands to run,” you say quickly.
“Nothing’s open,” Jake reminds you.
“Do you want me to invite him tonight or not?” Bradley asks, already scrolling through his contacts.
Jake elbows Bradley aggressively. “You’re seriously trying to get your sister laid?”
Bradley cringes. “Dude! Don’t go there!”
Jake stares at Bradley. “What do you think is gonna happen?”
You scoff at Jake incredulously. “Excuse me?”
Jake turns to look at you and places his hands on his hips with an impatient exhale. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“I just don’t want her to be alone on New Years!” Bradley exclaims, still looking down at his phone.
“She’s not gonna be!” Jake cries desperately.
“I don’t want the date, Bradley,” you say, putting on your shoes despite having absolutely nowhere to go.
“Why not?” Bradley enquires.
“I just don’t. I’m fine with being alone.”
“You won’t be alone,” Jake repeats, the frustration in his voice noticeably mounting.
“I thought you liked him,” Bradley says, slightly deflated. Clearly, he assumed that he was doing you a favor.
“I don’t even know him,” you say. “I just thought he was good-looking, that’s all.”
Jake makes a face. “He’s not.”
You roll your eyes. “Appearance is subjective.”
Jake stubbornly shakes his head but makes no further comment.
“Okay, so why not give him a chance?” Bradley presses. “It’s not like you’re seeing someone. Right?”
You give Jake a quick glance before conducting a thorough examination of your own shoes. “Well, kind of.”
“Kind of?” Jake asks, slightly panicked.
You continue studying your feet. “I think.”
“Who is he? What’s he like?” Bradley asks.
“Uh,” you stall, “he’s alright.”
Jake lets out a muffled cry. “Alright?” he asks and you try not to wince at his utterly obvious outrage.
Meanwhile, Bradley raises an eyebrow. “Wow,” he says wryly. “Sounds promising.”
“What else?” Jake says quickly.
You look up at him in disbelief. “Occasionally aggravating.”
Bradley appears puzzled. “Why are you with this guy?”
Jake squares his shoulders. “He must be extremely handsome.”
Bradley looks back at you. “Is he?”
You roll your eyes. “He’s cute.”
“Cute?!” Jake exclaims.
Bradley laughs. “I really think you should give my guy a try.”
Jake crosses his arms over his chest and stands up taller. “I’m sure there’s more to this guy than just… his looks.” He’s blatantly searching your face now, as if Bradley isn’t even present.
You start to nervously fix your hair in the mirror at the front door. “I’m not interested in your guy, Bradley.”
“Why not?”
“Because…” You sigh resignedly while Jake watches your reflection. “I… I like my guy.”
Jake stares at your face in the mirror as if this is news to him. Then, his mouth slips momentarily into a smile before he sucks in his cheeks to hide it.
Bradley grimaces. “Why?”
“Because, he’s…” another reluctant sigh, “…he’s a good guy.”
“That’s kind of vague,” Jake comments, still trying to suppress a grin.
You shoot him a glare while Bradley chuckles. Then, he says, “Alright, fine. Maybe in a couple of weeks when you’re single again.”
Jake looks at Bradley sharply. “Why would she be single again?”
“Come on, when was the last time my sister liked a guy enough to stay with him long-term? She finds something wrong with everyone she dates.”
Jake shifts his weight uncomfortably. “Maybe this one will stick.”
“Doubt it.” Bradley shrugs.
“This one’s different, Bradley,” you say quietly, turning to face them again.
Jake looks back at you. “He is?”
“How so?” Bradley asks.
You pause, hesitant to reveal the truth. “He… makes me feel…”
Bradley watches you dubiously. “Pretty?”
Jake also takes a stab: “Aroused?”
You let out a weary sigh and lock eyes with Jake. “Safe.”
He stares at you with a stunned expression while Bradley nods approvingly.
“Happy,” you continue.
This time, Jake doesn’t hide his smile, but Bradley raises his eyebrows as though your response has surprised him.
“Strong,” you say.
“Wow,” Bradley mutters.
Jake lowers his gaze with a grin, but you decide to add, “And aroused, I mean –”
“Oh god!” Bradley exclaims.
Jake chuckles, glancing up at you again.
Bradley shakes his head. “I get it, you’re in love. But, Seresin – I just remembered: I’ve got the perfect girl for you!” He holds up his phone, beaming.
Bradley decides to invite the perfect girl just in case because he can see how much his dear friend has suffered at the hands of his mysterious lover. And the perfect girl just happens to be Jake Seresin’s exact type. You try to ignore her flirtatious behavior while Bradley all but pushes Jake in her direction. Your brother seems so keen to set Jake up, you start to wonder what his vested interest might be.
There are enough people in attendance that you can watch Jake without worrying about anyone noticing that you’re staring. So, you pour yourself a fourth martini and head back into the living room to see what your brother’s best friend is up to. You barely make it past the couch, however, when someone you’ve only met once in your life takes your hand and starts encouraging you to spin under his arm.
You glance over at Jake, whose date is also trying to get him to dance. Taking a sizeable gulp of your drink, you follow through with the spin and smile uncomfortably at your new dance partner. The room is bustling because the ball is about to drop and everyone has gathered for the countdown, so you’re forced to crane your neck every so often in order to check on Jake.
He notices your new friend right away, locking eyes with you despite his own supposed date trying to monopolize his attention. You wish you could steal a moment with him when the new year arrives, but Bradley would notice his friend’s absence in a heartbeat considering he’s been tailing Jake all night, making sure that he was having a good time.
When the champagne flutes start making their rounds and the crowd erupts in an enthusiastic countdown, however, Jake separates from his friends and starts making his way through the bodies toward you. He nods his head in the direction of the hall before he’s even come near you, inviting you to join him. But you glance back at Bradley and see that he is already searching for Jake in the crowd that’s suddenly doubled in size as everyone has made their way into the living room.
You shake your head at Jake regrettably. The last thing you need is for the year to start with Bradley walking in on the two of you making out.
Jake gestures more vigorously with his head, urging you to follow and, when you refuse, he moves closer and reaches out to grab your hand. You don’t resist when he pulls you in and, before you can check to see if Bradley has finally given up his search, the clock strikes midnight, and Jake takes your face in his hands and kisses you right there in the middle of the living room amidst the explosion of cheers that welcome the new year.
You hope there is enough commotion in your vicinity to obscure the way Jake’s hands slide sensually down to your neck and then take your shoulders as he steers you through the crowd out of the room, his lips avidly devouring yours the entire time. Somehow, the two of you make it out without even looking up and, once you’re more or less alone, Jake mutters, “Your brother is getting real fucking annoying.”
You chuckle as he plants kisses along your jawline. The two of you are still moving through the house, into the darkness of the entry hall. “He’s been extra involved today,” you agree.
“He’s been fucking annoying,” Jake repeats, sucking on the side of your neck as you come to a halt in the foyer and he wraps his arms around you.
“He’s your best friend,” you remind him.
Jake presses you gently against the front door and licks your earlobe, whispering, “Who the fuck were you dancing with?” You giggle and feel his lips spread into a smile against your skin. “Oh, you think that’s funny?” he asks, and you feel his tongue on your ear again. “You think it’s funny that I had to actively restrain myself from socking him?”
“What about you?” you say, still laughing. “You were with that girl all night!”
Jake whimpers into your neck and his hold on you tightens. “All I wanted was this.” You close your eyes when his mouth finds yours once more. “My new year’s resolution is that I’m never gonna stop kissing you,” he mutters between pecks to your lips.
You giggle again and then sigh, slightly pushing him away. “What are we going to do?”
“I just told you what I’m going to do,” he says, going in for another kiss.
You turn your head and he ends up kissing your cheek. “This is how we’re going to spend the new year? Sneaking around? Hiding in dark corners?”
Jake exhales slowly, resting his forehead on your temple. “I’m going to tell him,” he assures you.
“What are you going to tell him?” you ask, hoping that this question might lead Jake to reveal the nature of your relationship as he sees it.
He leans away from you and looks you in the eye. “That I make you feel aroused, of course.” Your jaw drops in outrage and you let out a yelp that quickly turns into a cackle. Jake is grinning widely, pleased with the effectiveness of his joke. Then, he draws you closer and his face changes shape. He squares his jaw and you see the evidence of a nervous gulp in the bob of his Adam’s apple. “I’m gonna tell him that you’re the girl I told him about,” he says, his tone low but steady. You gaze at him in silence, afraid to move a muscle lest he reconsider the sudden sincerity of his words. “The one I can’t stop talking about.” He swallows again. “The one I’ve been obsessing over.” He pauses to study your reaction as though he’s afraid he might be scaring you off. “The one that I – uh” – he takes a deep breath and then lets out a chuckle, shaking his head. He takes your hands in his and weaves his fingers through yours, tugging you forward until his lips connect with the tip of your nose. “Oh god, Baby B,” he says, leaning into you affectionately. “I should probably stop talking now.”
*That's all folks! Happy New Year!*

Three Four, That’s the Magic Number - Hangman
Pairing: Jake "Hangman" Seresin / Wife!Reader
Word Count: 3.7k
This work, all my works, and my entire blog is 18+ Only!
Warnings: (Unplanned) Pregnancy; (Failed) Vasectomies; Humor; Suggestive Language; Marital Disagreements; Threats of Kicks to the Balls; Female Reader with No Description, No Y/N, Second Person POV, Use of "You"
Summary: You thought that three kids was it. But apparently your husband, Hangman, didn't have as successful of a vasectomy as you initially thought.
Master List
Tumblr media
Holding your head in your hand, you tried to quell your sudden nausea as your husband continued to drive you and your family across town to the Bradshaw family home for a Dagger pool day. Your head was pounding and you swore that your body was naturally swaying on its own and your kids fighting in the back seat was not helping your mood.
“Hey!” Jake barked when your son kicked the back of your seat, causing all three of your kids to jump. “Sit down and apologize to your mama right now, Charlie.”
“Sorry, Mama,” Charlie mumbled out quietly.
“Thank you, baby,” you replied softly, still feeling out of it.
“If you three don’t stop fighting, we’re not going to the pool,” Jake warned your three kids. Coming to a stop at a red light, he turned around to shoot them the classic ‘do not test me today’ look that your kids knew to not test. “So, if you want to go to the pool and play with your friends, you’re going to stop fighting. Got it?”
“Yes, Daddy,” the three of them chorused together.
Turning to shoot you a concerned look, since you hadn’t looked like yourself for what felt like days now, Jake started driving again when the light turned green. Pulling into the Bradshaw driveway, you slowly got out of your seat and moved to pull your kids out of the back. Jake grabbed the food and took Liam and set him on his hip so that you could walk in without any extra weight.
The Bradshaw house was packed with the Daggers and their families. The years since the uranium facility mission had only made the Dagger relationships stronger and even though they didn’t all live near each other anymore, they made efforts to get together when they could. Especially with a lot of their kids being around the same age.
Your three kids quickly joined in the activities with the other Dagger babies, letting you get a brief moment of peace. You and Jake stepped out into the backyard with Jake resting a concerned hand on your lower back, as if he was worried that you’d collapse on him.
“Are you sure that you’re fine?” Jake asked worriedly.
“I’m fine,” you assured him, leaning up to press a kiss to his cheek. “I probably just need to eat and drink some more water. That’s all.”
“Go sit down. I’ll grab you something.”
Jake reluctantly parted from your side and headed inside again while you made your way over to where Phoenix and Payback’s wife Dana were sitting by the pool. The direct sun caused your head to pound once again.
“You look horrible,” Phoenix commented, causing you to sigh and drop onto a chair.
“I feel horrible,” you muttered, shifting the umbrella over to block the sun.
“Are you sick?” Dana asked, sitting up.
“No. I don’t have a fever or anything like that. It’s probably just some stomach thing or just me being exhausted.”
“You’re nauseous?”
“Only sometimes,” you replied with a shrug, lying flat on your back.
“Have you been sleeping well?”
“No,” you sighed, rubbing your eyes and blinking slowly. “Liam’s still sleeping in our bed most nights and he usually kicks one of us awake. Mostly Jake, actually.”
“Eh, Hangman probably deserved it,” Phoenix muttered, shrugging her shoulders.
“Love you too, Phoenix,” Jake muttered, arriving on the scene.
He offered you a plate of food and a cup of water. You took the offering from your husband and shot him a small smile. In return, Jake leaned down to press a soft kiss to your lips.
“Thanks, baby,” you told him, smiling softly.
“You’ll let me know if you need to go home, right?” Jake asked you, shooting that look that he always did whenever you over-exerted yourself.
“Yes, Commander Seresin,” you replied sarcastically, shooting him an exasperated expression.
“We don’t need to be here for your foreplay,” Phoenix stated from behind Jake, causing Dana to burst out into snickers.
“Daddy!” Annie called, causing Jake to immediately spin around to see her standing on the steps of the pool with Bob right beside her. “Come play in the pool!”
“I’m coming, Princess!”
Jake peeled off his shirt and handed it over to you. Shooting you one last concerned look, Jake headed over to join Annie in the pool. You folded his shirt up and set it beside you before reaching for your water.
“How long have you been feeling ill?” Dana asked as you sipped at your water. “Jake seems pretty concerned.”
“About a week,” you replied quietly, reaching for the food that he brought you.
“You made an appointment?”
“Not yet. But I’m worried that he’ll make one for me if I drag my feet anymore,” you stated honestly, popping a grape into your mouth.
“Are you telling me that we’re in for another classic Hangman freak out?” Phoenix sighed, taking a long sip of her beer. “I haven’t had enough drinks to deal with that yet.”
“I think that Annie’s keeping him distracted for now,” you responded, smiling as Jake tossed Annie up in the air and caught her. Annie squealed as Jake pressed a kiss to her cheek and tossed her in the air again. “She’s got him wrapped around her finger at all times.”
You moved to eat some crackers and cheese, keeping everything lighter and stomach friendly. But when your caught a whiff of potato salad that all seemed to be for nothing. Plugging your nose, you quickly set down your food and sipped at your water to try and keep your stomach from rolling dangerously.
“Do you need Jake?” Dana asked, sitting up.
“You look like you’re going to throw up,” Phoenix added, sharing a look with Dana.
“I’m fine. And stop looking at me like that or Jake is going to notice.”
“I’d make that appointment soon,” Phoenix told you honestly. “Not much gets by him. But don’t tell him I said that.”
“No, you’re right,” you sighed, leaning back in your chair. Staring up at the umbrella over your head, you sunk a bit more into your seat. “I’ll make the appointment.”
~~~~~
“Any allergies?” the nurse asked you.
“No, none,” you replied, sitting up on the exam table of your doctor’s office.
“Any changes to your medication?”
“Nope.”
“When was your last period?”
“I don’t know, probably three weeks ago or something like that,” you replied, not entirely sure. You hardly kept track of it anymore at this stage in your life.
“And any chance that you could be pregnant?” she asked, causing you to shake your head.
“My husband had a vasectomy.”
“But are you still sexually active?”
“Yes.”
“In the last few months?”
“Yes.”
“Then, we’ll need you to take a urine test,” the nurse assistant replied, pulling out a plastic cup from the cupboard. “It’s standard procedure.”
Reluctantly, you took the cup and headed down the hall to the bathroom. After what felt like twenty years, your doctor finally entered your exam room.
“How are we doing today, Mrs. Seresin?”
“I’ve been better,” you replied, swinging your legs back and forth.
“Yes, I understand that.”
Your doctor asked you a series of questions, did a quick physical exam, before returning to the computer in the corner of the room. Typing in your answers and some notes to herself, your doctor turned back to you.
“Well, I think with all of your symptoms and your test results, there’s one clear cause of your illness—you’re pregnant.”
“That’s funny,” you laughed off, but your doctor remained serious.
“Mrs. Seresin, you’re pregnant. Your urine test came back with clear results. Based on your hormone levels, I’d put you somewhere around six to eight weeks.”
“But my husband got a vasectomy,” you insisted, as if that changed anything. “There’s no way that I’m pregnant.”
“Do you use protection with him?”
“No,” you replied, as if it were obvious.
“Might I suggest making an appointment with your obstetrician?” your doctor spoke softly, causing you to sink into your seat.
~~~~~
Making dinner that night, you swore that you weren’t seeing or thinking straight. Your doctor’s words kept echoing around head and stole any smidge of sanity that you maintained. Your kids were running around causing a ruckus as they always were and Jake still wasn’t home, which only added to your inner turmoil.
You hadn’t told Jake about what the doctor told you. It didn’t feel right breaking that kind of news over the phone or text. And frankly, you were torn between stressing about Jake’s reaction to your news and wanting to have the upper hand so that you could jump out strangle him the second that he got home.
“Daddy’s home!” Charlie called, setting off a chain reaction.
You looked up to see the kids run over to the door to greet Jake. Trying to not get too caught up in how excited the kids were to see their dad, you focused on getting the table set up for dinner. The door swung open and Jake stepped inside, immediately dropping his bag and holding out his arms.
“You’re all here for me?” he teased, pulling your three kids in for a hug and kiss. “Well, aren’t I just the luckiest guy?”
Sniffling, you set down the plates full of food for the kids before turning back for the kitchen to get started on the dishes. Jake usually did them after dinner, but you just needed to do something to steady yourself. Jake released your kids, telling them to go and wash their hands, before turning to you.
“Hey, Mama,” he greeted you, playfully tapping your ass. Wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you away from the dishes, he pressed a kiss to your shoulder and then your neck. “How was your day?”
“Oh, I just found out some news,” you replied, seemingly calm.
“What kind of news?” Jake asked curiously.
“The kind that will have you sleeping on the couch tonight,” you stated, a bit more aggravation seeping into your tone.
“What? What’s wrong?” Jake questioned, confused and looking a bit like a kicked puppy with your harsh tone. But that look wasn’t going to do him any favors today.
“You didn’t keep up your end of the deal.”
“Honey, what deal?”
“The one where you promised to not knock me up with another one of your heavy, always late, big-headed children!”
“Wait, you—you’re pregnant?” Jake breathed out, inspecting you closer. “Really?”
“I could easily knee you in the balls right now,” you warned Jake, eyes narrowing. “Maybe I need to since your ‘vasectomy’ clearly didn’t work!”
“What’s with the air quotes?” Jake asked, grabbing your hands. “Honey, you were there.”
“Not in the operating room.”
“Were you supposed to be?”
“Jacob,” you warned him, shooting him a look to shut up.
“Mommy, Liam was trying to eat the soap again,” Charlie complained, causing you to look away from Jake.
“For the love of—Liam, what did I tell you about eating soap?”
“I got this,” Jake told you, turning to walk over to the bathroom. “Just . . . sit down and breathe.”
Jake walked off to grab Liam while you scrubbed away at the dishes again. Charlie sat down at the table, closely followed by Annie and then Jake carried out Liam and sat him in his chair. Turning to see you still erratically scrubbing at the same pot, Jake sighed and approached you. He called your name, but you didn’t look up.
“Honey,” Jake tried again, “let’s just eat and I’m sure that you’re exhausted and probably just want to shower and go to bed.”
“I made an appointment with my obstetrician and with your urologist,” you replied, changing the subject on your husband.
“My urologist?”
“About your ‘vasectomy’,” you stated, adding passive aggressive air quotes again around vasectomy. “It’s in a month.”
“When? I have a bunch of—”
“—I already called your secretary and picked a time that fits into your schedule.” Turning to shoot your husband a look, you wiped off your hands on a towel. “You’re going.”
You stormed past him, leaving no room for argument. Jake winced and watched you walk over to the dinner table with your three kids. And although you looked just about ready to rip his head off and could very possibly read his thoughts, Jake couldn’t help but think about how much better the dining table set would look with six chairs instead of five.
But he wasn’t going to talk about that right now. He wanted to wake up tomorrow morning.
~~~~~
Jake sat on the exam table while you paced around the room with your arms folded across your chest and your purse in the optimal position to swing it and whack your husband. You were already starting to show and your appointment with your obstetrician was the week before. You and the baby were perfectly healthy despite the fact that you were in ‘advanced maternal age.’
Your husband slept on the couch after that appointment too just because you were feeling spiteful about that.
Jake was still dressed in his uniform, on a short break from work to attend this appointment. He met you at the doctor’s office while Dana Fitch invited your kids over for the afternoon. And although he tried to brighten your mood by promising to grab dinner on his way home and maybe something extra, you face was permanently screwed into a frown since you arrived at the office.
A knock on the door caused you to stop pacing and turn as the urologist slowly stepped into the room with a kind smile.
“Mr. and Mrs. Seresin. How are we?”
“Pregnant,” you stated bluntly.
“Yes, I heard. Congratulations,” the urologist replied somewhat awkwardly before taking his seat. “Though I’m assuming you’re wondering how that’s possible.”
“You read my mind,” you responded calmly and not at all sarcastic.
“Well, I should inform you that you’re not the first couple to have a pregnancy after a vasectomy. While it’s not common, it can still happen.”
“And in this case?”
“I’m not entirely sure without any additional tests,” the urologist replied honestly. “And in this case, I think that starting with a sample is the best course of action. Once we have those results, we can discuss whether or not another vasectomy is necessary.”
“Another one?” Jake asked quietly.
But he instantly tried to bite back his words when he caught the way that your head snapped around to shoot him a glare.
“Oh, that must be so inconvenient and painful for you to have to deal with,” you drawled sarcastically, causing Jake to wince.
“Sorry.”
You left the room to let Jake talk with the urologist privately and to check in on the kids. Glancing at the door to make sure that you were in fact gone, the urologist turned to Jake.
“I’m not trying to overstep and cause any trouble but we often ask men in this position if there is any possibility of them wanting a paternity test,” the urologist offered, causing Jake to chuckle.
“Not necessary,” Jake replied, laughing off the absurdity of the urologist’s suggestion. “Just some strong swimmers. That’s all.”
~~~~~
Jake headed out to the parking lot to see you sitting on a bench in the shade of the building, furiously typing away at your phone. Approaching carefully, like he was approaching a wild animal, he slowly sat down beside you.
“They’ll call me back with the results in a few days,” Jake stated, causing you to nod and put away your phone. “Are you okay?”
“I still want to kick you in the balls,” you stated, shooting your husband a look.
“Have I mentioned that I greatly appreciate your restraint?” Jake offered, causing you to scoff. “Honey, I can’t read your mind. Please just tell me what’s bothering you.”
“I just . . . I can’t believe we’re those people,” you sighed, holding a hand to your head.
“What do you mean by those people?”
“You know, those people. Those couples who were dumb enough after having three kids to not know what birth control is. Those couples that can’t keep their hands off of each other and just fuck around like a bunch of animals and there’s evidence for all of it! I mean, who sets out planning to have four kids?”
“Baby, who gives a shit about what other people think about us?” Jake replied seriously, grabbing your hand. “It’s none of their business about how many kids we do or don’t have. And I’m not going to apologize to anyone for maintaining a healthy sex life with my wife after three kids. Are you?”
“No,” you huffed, folding your arms across your chest. “Of course not.” Pausing for a moment, you turned back to Jake. “I kind of rubbed it in stupid Gina Denison’s face that we’re still banging a few days ago.”
Gina Denison was one of the moms of Charlie’s friend group. Her husband was a tool and looked like he hated his life every time he showed up.  And Gina was always so flirty with Jake, grabbing his arm and complimenting him on everything, that you contemplated kicking your son’s soccer ball straight into her face.
“She did look pretty glum actually,” Jake mused, rubbing your knee.
“Good.”
“Then what’s there to worry about?” Jake asked, causing you to sigh.
“There’s the whole bedroom situation first of all. Unless we want to turn the guest room into the nursery, the kids are going to have to share.”
“We’ll just convert the playroom upstairs. Easy fix. A new coat of paint and moving some things around and we’re fine.”
“And we can only fit three car seats into the back of your truck.”
“Then we’ll take the other car for family outings,” Jake pointed out softly, rubbing your knee again.
“And Liam’s still coming into our bed most nights. What happens when I’m eight months pregnant and there’s no room?”
“I’ll have a talk with him about it,” Jake offered, causing you to raise an eyebrow.
“You’ve talked to him about it a hundred times already. What’s changed?”
“I have my ways.”
And by ‘his ways,’ Jake was quietly referring to the fact that when you were heavily pregnant, you snored. Loudly. And now Jake had never told you that when you were heavily pregnant you snored because he wasn’t an idiot. It was like complaining about how uncomfortable the chairs were in the delivery room. Only a fucking selfish pathetic loser complained about that stuff to his pregnant wife.
And he already had a slip up with the whole second vasectomy thing in there and he was trying to quickly recover from that.
Turning to you and gently cupping your cheek so that you turned to him, Jake leaned in and rested her forehead against your own.
“Honey, you know that I’m here, right? You don’t have to go through this alone and you don’t have to hold all of the stress about it. We’re fine. We have the money. We have the space. We have the extra hands if we need babysitters. And for anything else, just tell me about it. I’m here for you and our four babies. Anything you want, you let me know, okay?”
“Okay,” you agreed softly, pressing a kiss to his lips. Smiling up at your husband through your eyelashes, you suddenly grew serious. “I want you to get another vasectomy.”
“Yeah, I thought you were going to say that,” Jake sighed, wincing a bit again.
~~~~~
Jake was turning forty this year. The big 4-0. And it only seemed fitting to him that he got to have his four kids by his side for this birthday. But since it happened to fall on a random Tuesday that Jake had to work, you and the kids just put together a small party for him. You cooked him his favorite dinner and the kids gave him the card that they made for him. And then it was time for the cake.
“Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday Daddy, Happy Birthday to you!” you and three of your kids sang along.
But little baby Hazel, who was about a year and a half now, was more focused on trying to touch the cake with her finger than singing. Jake smiled and grabbed her hand, shaking it to distract her long enough for you to take a photo.
“Alright, time to blow out the candles!” you called, holding up your phone to take the photo.
“On three,” Jake instructed your kids. “Ready? One . . . two . . . three.”
Your four kids, who were all seated or standing next to Jake, blew out the candles with him. You snapped a few quick photos before putting your phone away. Jake started clapping, causing Hazel to giggle and clap along too. You quickly grabbed the cake and cut it up. Passing around the slices of cake, you smiled and pressed a loving kiss to your husband’s lips.
“Happy Birthday, Jake.”
“Thank you, baby,” he returned, shooting you a wink.
Your kids talked excitedly with Jake about the upcoming weekend. Jake’s parents were flying in for his birthday and you were going to take a short vacation as a family. Jake listened and talked intently with your children before it was time to start the bedtime routines. You and Jake worked together to get Hazel and then Liam and then Annie and Charlie all ready for bed.
And once the kids were all asleep and tucked away for the night, you grabbed Jake by the hand and pulled him into your shared bedroom. In about three seconds flat, you had Jake on his back and straddled him.
“Happy Birthday,” you grinned, pressing a set of needy kisses to his lips.
“Are you my present?” Jake asked coyly, kneading your hips with his hands.
“Sure am, Cowboy,” you replied, pulling off your shirt and tossing it onto the floor. But before you kissed him again, you quickly cursed and got up to lock the door to your bedroom. Smiling apologetically at Jake, you quickly hopped up onto the bed again. “Don’t want to risk the kids walking in on us.”
“It’s my birthday. Tonight, you’re mine. All mine,” Jake agreed, pulling you in for another kiss.
And with assurance that his second vasectomy was successful, you happily started on your birthday gift for him.
just a little spicy!seresin because it’s Saturday and we all need more Jake in our lives 🌻 18+ Jake seresin x fem!reader smut; fwb; sex; praise kink; dirty talk
Tumblr media
“You look so pretty, sweetheart,” Jake grins down at you, the heft of his body over yours, so close you can feel the heat radiating off his skin.
“Stop,” you whine, a hand coming up to cover your face. Suddenly you’re embarrassed. It’s not the first time Jake and you have taken a tumble between the sheets, but each time he gets soft with you, makes you imagine this might ever be more than a friends who sometimes fuck situationship, you feel the need to curl into yourself, to hide from how badly you want that.
“C’mon,” Jake breathes out a laugh and gently pulls your hand away so he can look into your eyes, gaze intense as it meets yours. “I see you baby girl, I see you. Don’t be shy.”
You decide to save face by playing coy, closing your eyes and biting your bottom lip. “Can’t help it,” you whisper, threading your free hand through the hairs at the nape of Jake’s neck. He shifts slightly between your legs, his cock rubbing up against your bare core, movement easy through your slick.
Jake makes a noise somewhere deep in his throat—a grunt of amusement—before he places a soft kiss on your forehead. “You gonna make this difficult, hm?”
You only groan in response as his fingers leave heated trails over your skin, journeying down, tweaking your nipples, splaying a large hand over your belly, pinching your hips, circling your clit.
“Y’know what I’m gonna do now, sweetheart?” Jake is teasing, his voice deep and dripping with the lilt of his Texan roots. You manage a nod, but Jake makes a tutting sound and you open your eyes to watch him. He repeats his question with a particularly firm press to your clit. Your back arches up and he grins like the devil.
“Fuck me,” you breathe, “You’re gonna fuck me.”
“Good girl,” Jake sighs, positioning himself at your entrance. “So good for me.” He slips in slowly, every inch of him making you ache deliciously, filling you like he was made to be there, inside you, as close as possible.
With his hips flush against yours, Jake gives you a moment to adjust before you wiggle under his grip and whine, urging him to move. Each thrust is quick and hard, followed by the throbbing drag of him as he pulls out agonizingly slow. He helps you rest your legs on his shoulders, his hands on your hips.
“Lift.” Jake’s instruction is short and direct and you listen automatically, lifting your hips. His hands splaying out on your ass, holding you up as he continues to pump in and out of you with abandon.
“Touch yourself.” Another instruction, another immediate response. Your hand moves down to where your body is melded with Jake’s and you feel heated as he watches your fingers work alongside his cock. He continues to whisper how good you are and it doesn’t take you long to unravel around him, making him throw his head back at the pulsing of your cunt. Your legs are shaking, knees quivering, and it feels like you’re going to fall into the mattress, but Jake is still there, still holding you.
“I got you, baby,” he whispers, still fucking you through your high, “I got you.”
If it's not too early to request for the sleepover.... this prompt with Jake “next time we get into an argument, i’m reminding you that i took your virginity.” 🥰
it's just how you and Jake operate. you get into little tizzies--about everything, about nothing, about dinner, about the weather, about driving, about the dog, about the overhead light in the living room.
they're no big deal--not really. usually the two of you are grinning in exasperation, rolling your eyes playfully, blowing raspberries in jest when the other gets the upper-hand. there's never any yelling, never any true anger. just a slight back-and-forth, one accompanied by little pinches of the thigh and light nudges.
it's rare that any quarrel lasts more than a few minutes--which is why you're so frustrated right now.
"you're not listening," you accuse Jake, dragging your hand down your face.
the sun is beating down relentlessly, your hair hot to the touch and your shoulders beginning to darken.
Jake, standing beside you with his comically over-packed hiking backpack, throws his arms up in an exaggerated shrug.
"yeah, 'cause I don't listen to people when they're wrong," he says, squinting at you beneath his aviators. he gestures to the sign before you again. "it says the Peacock Trail is west. baby, I navigate for a living! don't you think I know my cardinals?"
groaning, you fidget with the rolled band of your biker shorts and then widen your eyes at him.
"yes, but--!"
"--no but's! just listen to the fighter pilot," Jake exclaims, glancing at you from the top of his aviators. he gives you an award-winning grin. one that makes you really, really steam. "and everything else will be gravy, baby."
stamping your foot into the dust, you sigh.
"we don't want to go on the Peacock Trail," you say shrilly. you point to the correct trail--the one you read extensively about the night before like you always do--and then glance at him. "we want to go on the Patriot Trail!"
Jake debates this for a moment, following your finger. and with an internal sigh but no outward change in his appearance, he realizes that you're right. shit. he hates it when that happens.
and here he is, standing in his athletic clothes and his over-stuffed backpack and his new tennis shoes, thinking he's hot shit. he glances at you--you haven't broken your dubious gaze from him.
even though he really hates not being right--like really, really hates not being right--he hates to truly exasperate you even more. besides, it's a beautiful day. a rare Saturday off paired with a blue sky and new hiking shoes and, best of all, you. everything else is just dust, he decides.
just as he's about to admit that he's wrong, just as he's about to tuck his tail between his legs, you grin at him.
"ha! you're wrong! you know you're wrong," you laugh, shaking your head at Jake as he stares back at you with his jaw slack. "trying to I'm a fighter-pilot me like that's ever worked."
"but I was just about to--!"
"--no but's! just listen to the fighter pilot's girlfriend and everything else will be gravy, baby," you say sweetly--and mockingly--before leaning up to peck his shocked lips.
you start for the trail--the correct trail--and Jake watches from a few paces behind. he's stunned, really. no one has ever returned his words so quickly, so fiercely before. Jesus.
but then you turn, squinting beneath the yellow sun, and give him a grin.
"c'mon, flyboy! time's a-wasting!"
flyboy. he hates that term.
"you know," Jake starts, finally moving his feet. "next time we argue, I'm so going to remind you that I took your virginity."
with a gasp, you halt and turn to him. there's that award-winning grin again.
"you wouldn't dare," you say quietly.
"oh, I would," he says, nodding emphatically. "I really, really would."
Pretty Like A Devil
Part 2: The Hard Deck
San Diego, California was a far cry from the northeast corner of the United States that you had come from. You traded the Great North Woods that spanned from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont to New York in the New England area, for the infamous golden state.
The Sunshine Coast, as you’d heard Vida call it, was the place where you would find refuge and escape your broken engagement.
You were leaving behind the beauty of thick dense clusters of trees, and inescapable fall beauty for endless sandy beaches. You would be trading the kind of nature that raised you, for the oceanic siren’s call.
The Great North Woods had been part of the process, and a necessary change to help you heal. It was a transposition of scenery, a part of your past, as you shifted your focus to piecing yourself together.
There was little you knew about the golden state, apart from the things you had learned in school, and you’d never been to the West Coast. You were getting a first-hand account of San Diego, Fightertown according to some, the city that Vida had fallen in love with.
It was indescribable, the first view you’d gotten of the coastal shorelines from the plane—both sandy beaches and towering rocky cliffs.
There was an undeniable draw that you had felt to the state already, and that was before the plane had even touched down. Though you had been expecting to be swept away by the state like Vida had, you didn’t expect for it to happen so quickly. Nevertheless, even after just touching down, you felt as if you could breathe deeply and cleanly for the first time.
The deadweight of your broken relationship and your ex-fiancé had felt as it was left behind in your home state.
Even if the feeling was cliché or as overdone as it may have seemed.
“Our place is literally five minutes from the beach, you could walk there. It’s remarkable.” Vida’s own harbouring excitement had almost boiled over when she picked you up from the airport.
You had suffered from lingering anxiety you had felt at the beginning of the flight. It had come from a mild fear of everything that could go wrong would go wrong, though it seemed to be replaced with eagerness once you saw the coast.
And now that you were out of the airport and in Vida’s Jeep on the way to her house, the remaining anxiety had dissipated.
You hadn’t just left behind your ex-fiancé and the relationship that had been broken by infidelity, you had left behind your family. While your mom and your sisters had understood your need to leave, to find an escape across the country, they would miss you. And you would miss them.
The goodbye you shared with them was difficult to swallow, regardless of you having your best friend to lean on in California, it was still tearing at you.
“You said you know someone whose looking for help?” You wanted as many distractions from your thoughts as possible, and having yourself thrown headfirst into work was the start.
You wouldn’t have cared if you worked as a waitress in a cheap and greasy diner, or if you were scrubbing floors in a school. You wanted to find work, you wanted to throw yourself into a job to start earning money, to find yourself a place of your own. Even if Vida and her fiancé told you that there was no rush for you to get your place.
“It’s a bartending job, I know you said you’d never bartended before, but it’s a real relaxed place. The owner is wonderful, her name is Penny. Trust me, this will be good for you.” Vida’s bright reassurance was effective, it had given you a greater sense of reprieve to know that you wouldn’t have to search long.
“Does she know….” you hesitated to finish your question, you had rendered yourself quiet as you glanced out the window of her Jeep. The coastline was beautiful, it was something you were eager to explore.
It had been another draw, another captivating sight that had pulled you further into immediate fondness for the San Diego sights.
“We’re going to go there now, if you’re okay with that.” Vida was asking you for permission as if she weren’t the one controlling the vehicle, and you were.
“Is she that desperate for work, or is it a favour?” You had finally rehashed your question, giving it a new light.
As it was asked, you turned your head and looked at Vida, your eyes sweeping across her as she hummed under her breath. Whether she was ignoring your question or she simply hadn’t heard you, it had come to the same result: verbal silence above the muffled background of the radio.
“Vida—“
“We take care of each other, we’re family.” She had talked over you after you spoke her name, her eyes, and tone of voice casting reassurance on you. “Penny is a fantastic person, Rooster and I are really close to her and Mav.”
“Rooster?” You seemed surprised, again, by the name her fiancé went by. You had known his name, Bradley Bradshaw, but it never ceased to catch you off guard when she called him by his callsign. “Right, that’s what you call him.”
“Everyone has a callsign. Bradley’s is Rooster, Pete Mitchell’s is Maverick…” Vida seemed to grin to herself, giggling under her breath with a shake of her head. “Oh, just wait until you meet Hangman.”
“Hangman? What kind of name is Hangman?” You mumbled under your breath, your eyes drifting toward the sand parking lot Vida was pulling into.
The bar she was speaking of, The Hard Deck, was a solitary building on the smooth and warm sand with its back to the ocean.
The front of the building seemed to be made of medium-dark wood shiplap and had a small porch at the front with an overhanging cover. The HARD DECK signage was written with faded red LED lights that matched the faded white trim.
“Wait until you see inside, it’s so much better inside.” Vida had parked and turned the engine off, slipping the keys into her jean pockets.
As you got out of the vehicle and followed her, you felt like you were craning your neck to try to get a look at everything before you.
Your cheap, worn shoes had sunk lightly into the sand as you made your way to the front door, climbing the two dark stained wooden steps that led to the entrance. The main door to the Hard Deck was made of light-medium wood with heavy hinges, and you’d grabbed the brass handle and yanked the door open, allowing Vida to pass first.
Your first impressions on stepping into the bar was nothing short of amazement. There was nothing insignificant about the bar, nothing that wasn’t completely captivating. To your left, once you stepped inside, was a booth tucked into the corner of the bar, the leather U-shaped seats and small wooden table looked intimate and comfortable.
On the walls were memorabilia and artwork depicting the kind of jets and fighter pilots that manned them. There was a single light hanging above the table, a pale yellow light ensconced in a brass fixture.
Across from the front entrance was a series of smaller seating areas with matching tables and blue leather chairs. There was a series of them along the wall, leaving a space between the seating arrangements and the bar to walk, though.
Though the floor was seamlessly laid out with dark grey wood to match the aesthetic of the dark wood, there was nothing about the bar that didn’t draw you in.
The Hard Deck was beautiful, unabashedly so.
“This is incredible.” You were in complete awe of this place, and you truly didn’t know where you wanted to look first.
Maybe you were drawn toward all the artwork on the walls, or the endless white cups bearing the images of different airplanes on the side, hanging from certain areas of the bar.
“Wait until you see it when it’s officially open,” Vida nudged you with her elbow, directing you toward the main feature of the building.
The bar itself was a seamless and large oval in the centre, one which had been set up with beer on tap at a station in the middle. There was an equally respectable set of liquor bottles that had been arranged to the left of the beer.
You had taken a seat beside Vida on the side of the bar that was closest to the door. As you sat and slowly took another look around, you heard the door opening to the kitchen. Although, you had still been looking around when you heard a woman speaking to you.
“Penny Benjamin,” the woman standing on the other side of the bar extended her hand.
Her long dark brown hair was loose and free-falling over her shoulders and down her back, her blue eyes were settled on you in an interested and speculative glance. You had extended your hand for her to shake, giving her name in exchange for hers, and then you withdrew your hand and fell into silence.
It was only after a minute of the silence that she spoke with nothing less than a cordial tone and a kind smile.
“So you are my new bartender. Have you ever worked as a bartender before?” It appeared that she didn’t have any previous expectations that you had, and you were sure Vida would’ve already told her that you hadn’t—it seemed, however, that she wanted to hear it from you.
“I have more experience on the receiving end than I have making drinks.” You’d felt that unsettling bubble of minute panic rising beneath your skin. It was an after effect that had seemingly worsened since you caught your ex cheating, though it was intensified in certain situations.
“You’ll start easy on the beer, and you’ll be my runner.” Penny’s attention had been cast behind her, at the sign she had posted on the wall that was hanging beneath a large bell.
“Disrespect a lady, the Navy, or put your cellphone on my bar you buy a round…” You read the sign slowly, processing the message slowly and with interest. “That happen often?”
“More than you think.” Penny had offered you another smile and then crossed her arms over her chest, her attention briefly falling to a clock on the wall. “Come back tomorrow at 5. I’ll run you through the system, and we’ll get you thrown right into it.”
“Thank you.” You were grateful for the opportunity to have work sooner than you expected, especially in a place that seemed so relaxed and close to the beach.
It seemed like just as soon as you had gotten to The Hard Deck, you were gone again and heading to the house.
While Vida had mentioned that her and Rooster’s house was five minutes from the beach, you hadn’t expected it to look or be as cozy as it was.
Though Vida made sure to tell you that Rooster had lived on base when he was considered to be on active duty, and spent his time here when he was free. There was a certain charm and character to the house that hadn’t fit the aesthetic of the houses surrounding Vida’s, and you enjoyed it.
The house had charm, and it was clearly well-loved if the personal touches were anything to go off. On the front porch, with an overhanging roof, there was a porch swing set against the wall decorated with nautically designed pillows. There was a rumpled blanket between the armrests and the pillows, and a book resting on the material.
On the front of the door was a hanging sign. It was a standard welcome sign that had been made with thick rope against a black background.
“There are four bedrooms, and I have your guest room all set up.” Vida had stepped by you to unlock and open the door, welcoming you into the front entrance.
While the decor was simple, it was clearly embossed with personal touches from both Vida and Bradley—one of his coats was draped across the couch, and there was a stack of books Vida had clearly just bought.
“Up the stairs are two of the bedrooms—the main bedroom and the room Rooster is using for an office, of sorts.” Vida had taken off her shoes before she stepped aside, allowing you to drag in your luggage.
You set it by the front door before you took off your shoes and set them aside, taking a slow look around the room that had exuded personal charms that fit both Vida and her fiancé. There was a picture of Bradley, you assumed it was him, as a child with his mother and father.
The three of them sitting on the bottom steps of what you assumed was a boardwalk. Besides the first picture you had seen, was another picture of his father, someone who was also a pilot, standing outside the plane he likely flew.
“It’s just going to be us tonight.” Vida had broken your silence with a gentle prod, directing you to follow her to the guest room she set up for you.
The room you would have would be off the main living room and down a small hall, a private space for you. It was far enough away for you from Vida and Bradley, when he was here, wherein you wouldn’t be able to hear them.
“Thank you, Vida. For everything.” You had recalled your gratefulness and extended it again, with a tight and lingering hug.
She was your best friend since childhood, and she had helped you more than you could ever quantify. You didn’t think you could have ever thanked her enough for the way she and Bradley had given you a fresh start.
“We’re best friends, we’re practically sisters. It’s what we do for each other.” She pulled away and rested her hands on your shoulders, her eyes searching yours and yours searching hers. “I missed you, Y/N. I’m damn sorry for what happened, but I’m glad you’re here.”
********************************
The Hard Deck was a popular place, as you had come to find out when you had started your first shift as a runner and waitress.
While Penny had managed mixing drinks and taking care of the people sitting at the bar itself, you had been busy on the floor. You hadn’t known what to expect when you had started at The Hard Deck, however both Vida and Penny had told you how popular the place was—with both the navy and locals.
While you had known that before you started, and you had been told that by Vida herself, there was nothing like first-hand experience.
Your first shift and day as the new bartender and waitress had begun at 5 pm, like Penny had stated. You had been given a rundown of the tap systems, the POS system and anything you might have needed to access during your shift.
It was a quick rundown before the first few people had entered the bar and taken seats near the back.
“You weren’t kidding when you said it was popular.” You had remarked to Penny after you stepped behind the bar to start pouring beer, the glass in your hand cooled from the alcohol and the chilling station.
As you focused on pouring beer from the tap, you had raised your head as the door to the bar opened. Your eyes were fixated on the appearance of three men and a woman in khaki uniforms from the navy, bearing their ranks and last names.
Of the three men, only one seemed to carry an air of arrogance that was easily detectable even from where you were standing. You had set the filled glass down and reached for another once, watching the arrogant navy man from the corner of your eyes as he seemingly hung behind his friends.
“They’re a little wild, but they won’t give you trouble.” Penny had commented on the place your attention landed, specifically on the man who remained behind.
“Hangman,” Penny greeted him with a sly grin, her hands on her hips and her blue eyes focused on him, “you survived your last flight.”
“Penny, my dear, nothing can take me out.” His voice was teeming on the edge with a slight twang of a southern accent, Texas was your best guess. “You’re new.”
You finished pouring the third glass, setting it on your tray, before you finally looked at the cocky pilot. He was leaning against the bar, forearms resting against the edge, with a cocky grin on his face.
His dirty blonde hair was pushed back out of his face in a soft yet small coif, and his blue eyes were flitting between yourself and Penny as if waiting for an introduction. His jaw was strong and firm, almost angular, and he almost certainly was the kind of man you could have called a fuck boy.
You turned your head, glancing at him with furrowed eyebrows and your lips pursed. Penny called him Hangman, a person Vida said she couldn’t wait for you to meet, and that made you question why she wanted you to meet him.
“Wow, Sherlock, you’re something else.” You responded to his flagrant claim with a sarcastic bite, and a roll of your eyes.
Was it possible for someone you just met to already get under your skin and invigorate your irritation?
It seemed probable for the cocky pilot, the man who seemed to radiate pretentiousness and confidence to a fault.
It shouldn’t have been possible for someone you had barely spoken to, someone you had met for less than five solid minutes, to aggravate you like he had.
“Got a name, new girl?” He rebuffed the sarcastic remark with a grin, and leaned closer to you. “Or should I just call you sweetheart?”
Your pursed lips became a scowl, and your teeth had ground together. You grabbed the tray of beer and carted it off in your hands, ignoring him and his air of arrogance.
“Don’t like sweetheart? How about sugar?” He called after you, and you knew you could feel his grin as you walked away.
You wove in and out of the crowd of people to deliver the ordered beer, your irritation at the pilot only growing when you noticed him still sitting there when you got back.
“Gonna give me an answer, sugar?” He was pressing with that stupid grin still on his face, only now he had an empty shot glass in front of him.
“Hangman,” you replied to his flirtatious laced comment with his callsign, further aggravated by him, “I’ve heard of you.”
Really, all you had heard was his callsign and Vida’s eagerness that you meet each other. Though she hadn’t given you much to go on, you couldn’t posit why she was so excited for you to meet, you’d barely spoken to him and you already wanted to deck him.
“Good things, I’m assuming.” He was shameless when he ordered another drink, a beer this time, and laid a bill on the counter. “Sweetheart, a beer.”
“You know how to use your manners? Or you think you’re above saying please?” You swiped the bill from the counter and handed it off to Penny. Your eyes narrowed in contempt when his grin only seemed to widen into a full bore and bright smile, and a laugh had slipped from his lips.
“I like you,” Hangman, as you’d only known him, had stood up straight when his beer had been set on the bar top, winking at you before he stepped away. “Keep the change, sweetheart. Maybe it’ll lighten your mood.”
Your eyes flipped back to the calendar on the wall with a big red circle around today. You’d probably looked at that calendar a thousand times over the last six months as you waited. Waited agonizingly every single day praying you wouldn’t get a knock on your door or the dreaded phone call.
Jake had been deployed on a carrier off the coast of Israel in the Mediterranean Sea for the last six months. You knew it came with the territory when you started dating him all those years ago. It terrified you every single time he came to tell you he was off on a mission or going on orders overseas. You’d never show it, only your utmost support and confidence in the man. But you knew how dangerous it was. He told you about all the men and women he’s seen gone down and some never making it home in his short span as a pilot in the Navy. It didn’t just terrify you, it rocked you all the way down to your core. What if he didn’t make it home? He was a hell of a pilot, one of the best that was flying, but things didn’t always go your way. He knew that. You knew it. Everybody seemed to know it.
But today was the day. He was coming home. After the months of shitty less than communication and trying your best to stay distracted it was here. He was safe. He was alive. You’d talked to him just a few hours ago. Waiting.
Jake’s parents picked you up from your shared home just off base that’d been eerily quiet in his absence. They didn’t want you driving in your hyper-fixated state. They never wanted you driving when it came to these kinds of events. They knew how much it tore you up when he was gone on deployment. If you didn’t fly down to Texas they made sure to fly to you. Just to keep you company. You hadn’t a clue how you’d gotten so lucky to have them in your life. And hopefully in the future as family. You never pushed it though. You didn’t want him to panic and ran. And truth be told you’d be fine never marrying him so long as he was like this in your life. Your best friend and love wrapped up in one.
“Are you excited?” His mom asked seeing you nearly bouncing out of the backseat once the car rolled onto base.
“Oh Nancy,” you could only nod your head in confirmation, “I’m more than excited.” Your cheeks were starting to burn from the big cheesy grin you were wearing.
His dad, David, spoke up, “I know Jake is just as excited.” He smiled just feeling the excitement in the air. These days were truly the best. Six months was a long time to be away. The longest deployment he’d been on in years.
The three of you made small talk as David drove to the base. Once parked, you happily led the older couple over to where the sailors would stand before they waited to be dismissed. You watched as the hundred or so men and women aboard the ship departed to their designated formation. Your eyes scanned for your loved one. Your Jake.
Finally spotting him you waited anxiously as the rest of the crew lined up. You just had to wait it out another ten minutes or so. They had to officially be dismissed before they could break for the family reunions. These last few minutes always seemed to draw on for decades trying to be as patient as possible.
You kept your eyes on him as he kept his forward. You hadn’t a clue that he already spotted you moments before you did him. But he had to keep his attention forward. No matter how anxious he was to see his favorite girl again.
They second they were dismissed Jake made a beeline right for you. Your face lit up in surprise as he headed right at you. Your body responding by moving forward you jumped right into his arms once he got close enough. He was more than ready. He wrapped his arms right around you securing you tightly to his chest while your feet locked behind him.
“Jakey.” You grinned hugging him tightly, afraid he’d be gone from your arms again you cherished every second like this. It made you realize how much you really did love the man you were holding so tightly. How much you craved him, everything about him. You’d rather not have had him gone for six months though. That was far too long for your liking. As if you had any say.
“Honey.” He cooed gently rocking you side to side. One arm snaked around your waist, one arm gently cradling your head in his hands, “You’re so fucking pretty. How’d you get even more beautiful? God I missed your face.” Jake leaned down capturing your lips in his. As gentle as he normally was with you this was hungrier. He really had missed you. Giving your hip as squeeze you felt him smile into the kiss as you squirmed away from his grasp.
Once you stopped giggling you looked right into his eyes smiling dopily, “And I missed yours, handsome man.” You gave him a wicked smirk before doing the unthinkable. Jake had warned you time and time again how he couldn’t show visible marks on the skin, or the Navy could have his ass. And maybe even yours if they were angry enough. You’d known they were empty threats, but you’d never dreamed of potentially hurting his flying in anyway. So, you’d never leave any marks.
Sliding his collar to the side you decided to throw caution to the wind seeing everybody lost in their own world with their own families. Jake’s parents were even admiring all the reunions around them instead of having their eyes fixated on the two of you. They loved watching all the joy every time. Nancy always made sure that every sailor was feeling the love. That was just one of the reasons you’d fallen in love not only with Jake but his entire family. His mom was as sweet as they came. His dad just as caring but even more tough. It was no wonder Jake was the way he was. Albeit a little more of an asshole than either of them even combined.
“Ma’am. That is abhorrent.” A vaguely familiar voice made you focus on your surroundings once more, “This is Destruction of Government Property.” You heard a cough from behind Jake drawing you away from your boyfriends neck. The look you sent could’ve killed him if it were at all possible. Bradley fucking Bradshaw. Was he actually serious right now?
You felt Jake’s laughter in his chest before you heard it. Flicking your eyes up momentarily at him you kissed him on his cheek before flipping Bradley off, “I don’t care Bradley.” You continued flipping him off while Jake held you tightly to his chest.
“Sweetheart…” Jake tried to warn you. The government really did own his ass. But his Commanding Officer was cool. He wasn’t expected to be back on base for another few weeks… what did a few hickies hurt? You knew the drill, but it didn’t seem to matter as you clung to him like he was about to vanish at any second. He looked down at your doe eyed expression, “I missed you.” He finished realizing just how hard deployment really was on you. The two of you were going on year five together. He’d been a pilot for all of them. He’d flown his hardest missions during that time. Your support never wavered. But seeing you like this? Like you’d never see him again… it hurt him. It hurt knowing you were feeling like that.
“You’ll care when there are Naval Officers on your doorstep.” Bradley tried. He really did. But you really didn’t care. You missed him more than anything. You didn’t care that his parents were there watching. You just missed him. Missed his corny ass jokes and the soft touches he always threw your way. You missed the sweet smiles and laughter that came with being around him.
“So be it. Worth it.” You giggled as Jake pinched your sides again bringing your attention back to the man you’d dreamed about every day.
“Eyes over here darling.” He made sure to flip Bradley off before holding you back in his arms once again. He wouldn’t let you drop your hold on him. He wanted you close. He didn’t care either. He’d craved you for those months. He’d forgotten just how bad deployment got. Bradley mumbled some incoherent words before disappearing off into the crowd.
Kissing his cheek once more you nodded, “Sorry Jakey.” Brushing your hands through his hair it felt like it really was just the two of you there. Like nobody else was around.
“No need to apologize.” He whispered in your ear sending immediate chills down your spine, “You didn’t answer my question though. How’d you seem to get even more beautiful while I was gone?”
You truly felt like a little schoolgirl was a nasty crush on a boy way out of your league. He was so sweet to you and only you. Not having a clue why. You loved watching him interact with everyone else. He was so different than the man who came home to you every night. But that was Jake. Tough as they come. Sweet as can be. The biggest fight the two of you had was when he came home and told you about the six month long deployment a year ago. You didn’t even fight you were just sad. Sad that he volunteered to go. Volunteered and didn’t tell you. The two of you worked through it though. You always did.
“Shush. You’ve just been trapped on a big boat for so long I’d be offended if you didn’t think I was pretty.” You wanted to kiss him so bad. You didn’t even remember the kiss you gave him once you spotted him walk off the ship. You blacked out, truly.
“Never ever.” He grinned, “I’ll never stop complementing my beautiful girl.”
You squeezed your arms around him pulling him so much closer. You’d melt into him if you could, “You’re too sweet to me Mr. Seresin.”
He shook his head, “Not enough, I’d say.” He took the lead this time leaning down to give you a soft, sweet kiss that was far too short for your liking.
“I love you.” You whispered to him feeling oh so happy. So beyond excited he was holding you in his arms once again. You tried to step away to give his parents a chance to say hello, but he only held you tighter. Shaking his head.
“Love you too, gorgeous girl.” He hummed placing a soft kiss on your forehead, “That was it, by the way.”
You scrunched your eyes together in confusion, “What?”
He nodded his head with that larger than life smile on his face, “You’re looking at Captain Jake Seresin. Command Ground Officer.” He emphasized ground with wide eyes.
“Jake! Congrats. You didn’t tell me! Does this mean you’re here? Permanently?” Looking at him expectedly. It hit you just how good it could really get once you knew he’d be sleeping by your side every night.
He nodded his head in excitement, “At least for this job. I’ll still be flying but more on the leadership side. Training. Preparing them.”
You didn’t think your heart could swell any larger in love. But there it went. Only Jake could do that. You knew it. He knew it, “You’re not kidding right? Like you’re being serious?”
“Yes sweetheart. So serious.” He kissed your nose this time. He missed you more than you could’ve imagined. It was an impossible six months. He didn’t want to do that anymore. He couldn’t be away from you anymore. Lucky for him he had options. They let him choose. He choose to ground himself from missions. It was time to grow up and move on. He’d accomplished everything he sought out to and more already in the air. Now he was on a mission to rise to the top. Admiral Jake Seresin had a ring to it.
You wanted to squeal but knew you had eyes all over you. Anybody could’ve been watching, “That’s the best news I’ve heard in a while J.”
“Just you wait.” He grinned ear to ear leaning down once more, whispering into your ear, “Won’t even be the best news you’ve heard all day.” Leaning all the way down he kissed you with a little bit more but keeping it PG. His parents were standing there a little annoyed that he’d chosen to be with you for so long before he even acknowledged them. But they knew. They knew the raw power of love. How much it could sway and dissuade. How deeply Jake was in love with you and how much you were with him.
“Oh? Do tell.” You pulled away looking at him curiously.
“You’ll see.” He wiggled his eyebrows just to egg you on.
You narrowed your eyebrows in on the man you loved so dearly, “You know how much I hate surprises.”
He laughed gleefully, “Oh darling, I know.” He pulled you back into him momentarily, “Promise, it’ll be worth the wait.”
“Promise?” You knew he’d keep true to his word, but you wanted to hear him confirm it.
“I promise you darling. Just you wait.” Squeezing your hand, he finally walked over to his parents bringing you right along with him. Only dropping your hand as he went in for the hug with his mom.
His Little Girl
Requested: No
Summary: You knew that Jake would be the best father to your baby girl. He didn't hesitate to prove it.
Word count: 1.2k
Warnings: Pregnancy, hospitals, & mentions of blood.
Pairings: Jake 'Hangman' Seresin x wife!reader
Tumblr media
Jake Seresin was an amazing father. You thought that this would be the case, but the past few days were nothing but proof. Your entire pregnancy, Jake had been right there by your side. With every craving, every bout of morning sickness, every time you needed to feel the weight of your growing baby lifted from your shoulders, Jake was there. The whole nine months, all the way to your labour, he was the perfect husband. Not once during your 22-hour labour did he leave your side.
Regardless of his caring tendencies during your pregnancy, somehow, Jake was even more caring the second your baby girl was born. Around 4:30 in the morning, Aimee Rose Seresin was born, weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces and perfectly healthy. You and your husband couldn’t have been more happy. Early that morning, for only the third time since you had met Jake, you saw tears filling your husband's eyes.
When the nurses took out your little girl to do blood tests, Jake immediately ran down to get you something to eat. Jake arrived only seconds before the nurses did. He helped to prop you up and sort out your meal before Aimee was passed over to him. You watched with unlimited adoration as your little girl snuggled into his bare chest. You finished what you could have easily considered the best meal of your life before relaxing back onto your pillows. Within seconds, your eyes were slipping shut and you were drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
You woke up a few hours later to the same sight of your baby girl asleep on her daddy’s chest. A soft smile grew on your face at the sight of your sleeping husband. Luckily, Jake had set your phone beside you before Aimee was handed to him. You snapped a quick picture and set it as your lock screen. You had never been more in love than you were now.
Mere seconds later, the nurse walked in to check up on you. Your husband woke up slowly, blinking the sleep out of his eyes. “How are you doing, dear?” The sweet elderly nurse questioned as she reviewed your vitals. After only a few minutes, you were left alone again with your family.
Your husband was standing now, walking toward you while rocking your little girl softly. Not only did Jake hold your little girl like she was the most precious thing in the world, he looked at you as if you hung the moon and the stars. In that moment, you could easily see how much he loved you. His eyes held untamed adoration as he set your little girl on your chest.
“I love you so, so much, honey.” He whispered to you gently as he leaned down. A chaste kiss was placed on your forehead.
The soft moment between the two of you was often one that you returned to when Aimee woke up crying in the middle of the night. However, even in those times of frustration, you knew that your husband was beside you every step of the way.
Thankfully, you only had to stay in the hospital a few days longer before you were allowed to go home. Those few days flew by in a breeze, Jake being a large help through the whole process. You knew the history that Jake had with his father, so you were more than proud of the fact that he was already such an amazing father. The fact made you smile softly, watching your husband love on your little girl once more.
Unsurprisingly, the ‘hot dad walk’ that you had been looking forward to since you found out you were pregnant did not disappoint, far exceeding any expectations you could have had. The sight of Jake carrying your baby girl out in her car seat had you swooning for your husband all over again. You waddled behind him slowly, happy to watch him walk away. When you finally arrived at the car, Jake made sure to let you know that he knew exactly what you had been staring at the whole time. Your cheeks were rosy the entire ride home. You sat in the back seat with Aimee, watching her sleep soundly as Jake made the slow drive home.
Every few minutes, Jake would check on the two of you. “How are my girls doin’?” he questioned, not taking his eyes off the road. Another smile lit up your face as her tiny hand wrapped around one of your fingers.
“We’re doing perfect Jake. She’s perfect.” There was nothing but pure awe on your face. In that moment, Jake thought the same about you. You were the light of his life; absolutely perfect just the way you were. He chose not to say anything, smiling softly at the thought of his new family.
A few minutes later, Jake was pulling into the driveway of your home. He hopped out and pulled your door open, helping you out before he grabbed your baby girl’s car seat. She was passed over to you as Jake collected the rest of your belongings from the back seat.
You sucked in a soft breath, grasping your husband's hand as you brought your baby girl into the house for the first time. Aimee slept soundly in her car seat, unaware of the happiness building in your chest. Your family was home.
Together, you and Jake brought her up to the cozy nursery. Jake had spent weeks putting it together, dragging Bradley and Bob in at various times to help him assemble the furniture. The sight of three large aviators bent over pieces of a crib in a pretty pink room made you giggle more than once. As Jake emptied the contents of the hospital bag onto the changing table, you set Aimee softly in her crib. One of the tips that the nurses gave you was that when the baby was sleeping, you should be sleeping. After the exhausting few days you’d had, you certainly weren’t one to disagree.
Seeing that Aimee was peacefully asleep in her crib, you and Jake grabbed the baby monitor and headed down the hall toward your room. Your husband pushed the door open for you, chuckling quietly as you flopped onto the bed. You offered him a tired grin.
Mirroring your smile, Jake set the monitor on the dresser and walked toward the bed. “Hey there, pretty girl,” There was a loving look in his eyes as he climbed onto the bed beside you. His fingers began to trace delicate patterns into the soft skin of your stomach. “How’s my beautiful wife doing?”
Offering him another smile as your eyes fluttered closed. “I’m doing amazing Jake,” You whispered, “Thank you so much.” You squeezed his hand softly. Even though you didn’t directly say it, Jake knew exactly what you were thanking him for. You may have not been able to see it with your eyes closed, but the smile on his face showed exactly how much he loved you. He didn’t have to respond; you knew he would do anything for his girls.
Rather Be With You
Jake "Hangman" Seresin x Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Jake has been away for six months and he just hopes you waited for him.
Warnings: cursing. I think that's it.
Notes: this was inspired by an ask (💐) from a bit ago. Sorry it took so long. So much happened in the last week and a half, some good some bad, and it just got on top of me. Writing had to come second. I have probably written better in my life haha, but I tried.
Words: 1972
---
“You know he's only messing with you, right?”
He wasn’t sure how long he’d sat there, hunched forward with his elbows on his knees as he wrung his hands together. Surely it had been a while. For the entirety of the morning, perhaps? Rooster had made his teasing comments at seven a.m. sharp and they were due to dock at noon. Had it been that long? Or had he really managed to shove many hours worth of painful thoughts into just a few short minutes? Somehow, he figured, it was one or the other. No in-between.
When his eyes flicked up, Nat’s face seemed to hint at the former.
It made sense, he supposed. Spending hours thinking about you wasn’t exactly uncommon. Usually, though, those thoughts were a bit nicer, with you naked and smiling, laughing, or whispering sweet words to him. He liked those better than the ones that had plagued him for…well, however long he’d been sitting there.
“He knows what he said isn’t true,” she continued. “He wouldn’t have had the balls to make jokes like that if he thought they would hold any weight. Trust me, no one particularly enjoys pissing you off.”
He wasn’t pissed off, though. He was devastated at the seeds of doubt planted in his head; at the pain and insecurity that came with the twisted knife to his gut. He hated the images forced into his mind at his friend’s words; the ones of you with other men; the ones that made it terribly clear how little you considered or missed him in his absence.
“Jake, she waited for you. I know she did.”
“Yea? How?” he asked.
Phoenix opened her mouth quickly, just as he would have had someone asked him a few hours ago if you loved him like he loved you—ready to confirm with a smile on his face. But if made to think of the answer for more than a half-second, without the hope and giddiness fueling his enthusiasm, he realized he couldn’t actually say for sure if you loved him, just as Nat now could not say with certainty that you had waited for him.
Her mouth closed.
"Exactly. You don't know," he said. "It’s not like I was smart enough to ask her to be my girlfriend before we left. She has no obligation to me, so why would she have bothered to wait six months to have me when she could have anyone?"
The brunette shook her head. “I don’t believe she's like that."
Leaning back against the bench and crossing his arms, Jake just barely held himself back from a scoff. "Like what, Nat? That wouldn't make her anything other than a woman who found someone new to sleep with after the guy she was sleeping with disappeared for half a year.”
“But you didn’t—”
“I know I didn't disappear. But I’ve been gone longer than we’d been together," he said, his voice drifting as he imagined what he hadn't stopped to consider before; a nightmare that, if proven true, would cleanly snap his heart in half. "Joke or not, Rooster could very well be right.”
"You're overthinking,” Penny’s voice snuck in from your left.
She reached out to take the beer glass from your hand, polished almost too clean after the twenty minutes you spent absentmindedly running a rag over it. Your mind had been too occupied with troubled thoughts to notice your unceasing drag of the dishtowel around the cylindrical shape of the glass.
It came free from your hand with ease, and as Penny placed it back on its shelf, you spewed, "What if he hooked up with someone? What if he decided six months was too long to wait for a woman that isn't his girlfriend?” You finally faced her just to find her rolling her eyes. “He likes sex, Penny. A lot. There are plenty of willing women and he's practically insatiable."
"When it comes to you, maybe."
The tenseness in your shoulders from well-formed stress was heavy with your exhale, forcing your shoulders to fall forward and your posture to take a hit. "Penny…" you groaned.
"I'm telling you, there's no way he messed around with anyone,” she swore, leaning back against the bar. "Besides, it's frowned upon to get involved with your coworkers."
"You think that's ever stopped Jake?"
She pursed her lips and tilted her head from side to side as she considered. "Ok, fair enough,” she agreed. “Once upon a time, that definitely wouldn't have stopped him. But after meeting you, he hasn't looked at another woman."
You couldn’t say that provided you with any relief. Jake had always presented as an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ type of man. He wasn’t a worrier. Once something exited his periphery, it promptly left his brain, discarded with all past challenges or predicaments. And wasn’t that what you were? An obstacle? He hadn’t asked you to be his girlfriend for a reason. Holding on to you for more than just the night didn’t necessarily make you more special than any of the other women. Perhaps it simply made you convenient.
"You don’t know, Penny. You’re not with him 24/7."
Penny muttered something under her breath. Her fingers rose to rub at her temple and when they dropped back to her side, the stare she shot you was imbued with determination. "Look, my bar is where Seresin used to do his "best work," as he liked to say,” she said, and you made a face. "But the only work he's been putting in since he met you has involved getting you to like him and making you happy after you two started your little…thing."
"You may not pay attention, but I do," she practically scolded. "Now, a month ago you were excited to meet him when he got back, and then you let your thoughts get away from you and it’s fucking everything up."
To your own shame, you couldn't deny that. So you didn't bother, rather opting to nibble on your thumbnail.
"They'll be back soon, so are you coming with me or not?"
He didn’t know what he was doing, standing there with his bag over his shoulder. But he felt like a heavy weight, an anchor in a sea of levity. Looking around, the men and women he’d been packed in with for the last six months were thrilled, the room sprinkled with smiles and laughs of giddiness in anticipation of having their families in their arms again.
He didn’t have that.
He wanted to have it, but that was fully reliant on you. Your feelings. Your wants and desires. Your plan for your future. Jake could imagine a world where he had the strength to beg to be a part of your life—to plead as desperately as if fighting for enough air to fill his lungs—but reality made that entirely out of his will and control. So he didn't shove his way forward when they made it home. He couldn't bring himself to jump in front of the others who had people waiting for them upon their return. Instead, he let them file out, his team included, until he was one of the final few to step back on dry, solid land.
As he walked by couple after couple, family after family, his already weak composure began to crumble at its edges. The people milling around him felt like a mocking montage of the life he didn’t have. Men and women kissing their partners or spouses, hugging their children with no intent of letting go, their tears coating the ground with joy.
Jake's chest constricted. He needed to get himself on the other side of it, but weaving through the mass of bodies proved harder than he expected.
His shoulders bumped into theirs, his chest skimming across backs and limbs when he turned to his side to sneak through narrow openings. Little kids ran into his legs like spinning tops on the loose from their wound-up energy finally releasing, though each one quickly recovered and returned to their parents, maintaining the same level of enthusiasm they had prior to smacking face-first into a muscled calf.
With each unintentional nudge, he apologized, but no one so much as noticed, too engrossed in their relief at making it home unscathed or in seeing their loved ones still intact. Somewhere, his teammates were doing the same. They’d found their partners, and he thought he’d found his, but his overconfidence in your feelings kept him from ensuring you were actually together. And maybe it was too late. Maybe he would have no choice but to watch you move on from him.
Finally breaking through the edge of the crowd, Jake took his first deep breath. He didn’t look back as he made his way to his truck. He didn’t turn when rushed footsteps grew closer until they sounded as if right on his tail.
“Jake.”
He paused and sighed. He should’ve known he would imagine your voice. Six months without that lovely sound, his only chance at hearing it being within his dreams, took its toll. It haunted him like a ghost on that ship. Of course it wouldn’t cease just because he was home.
“I was calling you, but you didn’t hear me.” There was a soft chuckle, then, “Well, at least I hope you didn’t hear me.”
He spun on his heel and was greeted with your smile. It lacked its carefree nature, instead just barely failing to conceal a twinge of nerves, but beautiful nonetheless. He couldn’t help but smile back.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, taking a few steps closer.
“I came with Penny.” The roundness of your cheeks turned pink from your blush. You lightly shrugged. “I missed you.”
With those words, Jake knew Rooster was deserving of a swift smack upside the head, one he very well may deliver. You cared. You missed him, even.
Fucking Rooster.
“Oh, I, um,” you continued, your eyes falling down to your hand. “I got you these. It feels silly now, but at the time I thought they would be nice, I guess.”
He followed your line of sight to the small bundle in your hand. Five long stems were tight in your grip, the bulbs on their ends made up of layers of silky red petals.
"I was thinking," you swallowed hard and met his gaze, "I don't actually know if you like flowers. And if you do, I didn't know your favorite. I just picked mine." The sweet grin that returned to your face practically demanded he kiss you. Your lips, your cheeks, your forehead, your nose. All of you. Every little bit.
And you weren't wrong. He hadn't had a favorite.
He did now.
Jake swallowed through the tightness in his throat, fighting back the stinging in the corners of his eyes.
He didn't get gifts, and certainly not from the women he was with. But then again, with the exception of you, he hadn't chosen to be with a woman for more than a night or two in the last decade.
"I like the yellow ones but they symbolize friendship and that wasn't really what I was going for, so I—"
"I love you.”
Your smile, your jaw, your hand, fell. "You…what?"
He let out a chuckle and reached for you. "Come here."
You didn't hesitate sliding your hand into his and he quickly pulled you to him, your chests hitting, lips meeting with an intensity that he hoped expressed even just a lick of how much he missed you. You draped your arms around his shoulders and the petals of the flowers tickled the nape of his neck.
"Six months was too long," you whispered when you separated.
He nudged his nose against yours. "Way too long."
