i think we sometimes forget how much gender plays a factor in the themes of i was born for this. obviously there's stuff inherent to the idol worship of boybands by fangirls, and the two narrators each have their trio (the boy trio and the girl trio), but the girls specifically have an internal bias towards men that they all have to overcome.

bliss has to make the hard decision to prioritise her own privacy and happiness over her relationship with rowan, juliet is already on her way to caring less about the ark but has to learn to stop coveting her relationship with mac over her friendship with angel, and angel obviously has to overcome her parasocial obsession with the ark. but angel's part in this is also reflected in her parents.

angel's relationship with her dad is very good. her dad is very supportive and loving all the way through, and it's clear from angel's narration that this love and support is the norm for their relationship. yet angel complains constantly about her mum, and her mum is being unreasonable, even if it's only for the sake of angel's safety and happiness. there's a reason part of the end of angel's arc is her crying on the phone to her mum; she bridges the gap between them and it's an integral part of her appreciating the women in her life, because her obsession with the ark will never get her the fulfillment she needs and could be getting from those relationships.

iwbftreread week recap

we’ve been doing a lot of work towards normalising the use of fereshteh instead of angel. good job!

there hasn’t been as much bicciposting as on any other day and it’s been very refreshing

in fact, there has been a new wave of realisation that bicci is very unromantic within the text and jimmy definitely doesn’t like lister back (yet); they’ve both got way bigger fish to fry

on that note. ALLOARO JIMMY. the ultimate new headcanon

also there’s been so much aroace fereshteh love !!!!

there were a whole lot of valid criticisms of juliet and her treatment of fereshteh

we’ve all turned into mac understandersons

i don’t remember who said this cause i can’t seem to find the post but someone called to attention that rowan probably knows lister better than jimmy despite their issues and negative feelings and that stuck with me a lot

so many beautiful analysis posts. i reblogged most of them so i highly recommend going through my iwbftreread tag to find them all <3

and on that note, SO MANY beautiful memes, playlists, art, fics, etc etc. i’m definitely gonna be stalking the iwbftreread tag in years to come the content we’ve made was off the charts

special mention to the whiplash watch party because that was an amazing time and i’m so glad i organised it :)

overall we’ve shown once again that iwbft is still very much in our hearts and the fandom is still alive, even if it was slumbering for a while. alice can take all the time she needs writing the sequel because we’ll still be here <3
