my interpretation of black box by recoil has always been about reliving a catastrophe before the catastrophe even happens. the narrator is stuck in an unknowing loop which could also be the album itself considering the first track starts with the sound of a cassette being rewinded.

the catastrophe being the plane crash, these lines get repeated over and over again:

and these too, which are coincidentally numbers being all mixed up:

knowing the rest of the songs were meant to be life flashing before the eyes of the narrator, i think it's a very strong narrative track. almost entirely instrumental and yet very story driven. it really fascinates me, specially the longest fifteen minutes version! it's a whole journey, certainly a long one but also a rewarding one somehow??? and the fact that you can hear not only the breathing of the narrator but also a baby crying in the distance when the crash has already happened diegetically (fire like noise, sirens) ??? like something not quite finished but starting again?? good stuff, good stuff
