Eurovision 1994 my top 25
Tumblr media
Hello, and welcome to another episode of this ESC series of tops, and I go back to April 30, 1994 when the 39th edition of the contest was held in Dublin, Ireland after Niamh Kavanagh’s victory in Millstreet last year, and it was the second year in a row that the contest was held in Ireland. 25 countries took part, while Belgium, Denmark, Israel, Italy, Slovenia, Turkey and Luxembourg withdrew, the latter hasn’t returned since, Estonia, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Lithuania, Poland and Russia debuted in this contest. The winner was, again, Ireland with Paul Harrington & Charlie McGettigan and the song Rock n’ Roll Kids, making this their 6th victory, a record at the time and the third time in a row Ireland won the contest. And now, let’s review the songs. I want to say that the RTE Orchestra here is wonderful and I’m crazy for the drums.
1st Place: GERMANY/MeKaDo-Wir geben ‘ne party (Real Placing: 3rd-128 points)
Legend says that if you find a live version of this, you can make a wish. Jokes aside, THIS IS EXCELLENT, this is catchy, funny and the music is so modern for the time, I like the performance and they are so nice together, I’m in love with this song and yeah, this is my personal winner and IMO this deserved, along with Poland and Hungary, the victory.
2nd Place: POLAND/Edyta Górniak-To nie já! (Real Placing: 2nd-166 points)
Oh this song is amazing as well, Edyta’s voice is so out of this world and the music is pretty, the chorus is so powerful and the verses are calm and soothing, just a perfect balance. What a debut from Poland and it’s still their best result, you can do it Poland!!
3rd Place: HUNGARY/Friderika Bayer-Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet? (Real Placing: 4th-122 points)
This song is so calm and beautiful, her voice is perfect and the music is so well done. This is one of my favorite songs from the 90′s and this is the perfect debut for Hungary, I’m in love with this song.
4th Place: IRELAND/Paul Harrington & Charlie McGettigan-Rock n’ Roll kids (Real Placing: 1st-226 points)
Our winning song of the night, at first I disliked this so much, but then I started to appreciate it’s beauty, the music is very cute, they are good singers and the lyrics are so good. I don’t think this is a winner but is such a cute song.
5th Place: ESTONIA/Silvi Vrait-Nagu merelaine (Real Placing: 24th-2 points)
Ok so why this song finished second last? I LOVE THIS ONE, the music is stunning and her voice is such a delight to hear, the chorus is very effective and it’s one of my favorite Estonian entries ever.
6th Place: FINLAND/CatCat-Bye bye baby (Real Placing: 22nd-11 points)
ONE OF FINLAND’S MOST UNDERRATED SONGS, this sounds so 90′s and it’s modern and fresh, they sing nice and the music is pretty strong, but maybe the orchestra kinda ruined it a bit, because the studio version is miles better, anyway, I love this song so much.
7th Place: CYPRUS/Evridiki-Ime anthropos ki ego (Real Placing: 11th-51 points)
Oh Evrikidi I love you, this song is so powerful and dramatic but this works so well for me, her voice is as good as in 1992 and the music is very nice, I love the bridge after the chorus and her performance is so amazing.
8th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Francis Ruffelle-We will be free (Lonely symphony) (Real Placing: 10th-63 points)
This is such a song for 1994, modern, cute and the intro is stunning, everything here works well and her voice is amazing, the chorus is memorable and there’s a musical bridge at the end that is very exciting and wonderful. What a song!
9th Place: NORWAY/Elisabeth Andreassen & Jan Werner Danielsen-Duett (Real Placing: 6th-76 points)
ELISABETH <3 This song is pretty, the music is so good and their voices match so well together, the verses are nice and the chorus is wonderful. A nice entry from Norway, and one of the best ballads of that year.
10th Place: RUSSIA/Youddiph-Vechny strannik (Real Placing: 9th-70 points)
This entry as well is beautiful, the music changes on this one are so effective, the verses are very sweet and the chorus is powerful. Also her voice is stunning and the dress is weird but effective. A nice debut for one of the powerhouses of the contest.
11th Place: ROMANIA/Dan Bittman-Dincolo de nori (Real Placing: 21st-14 points)
This entry makes me cry so much, his voice is on point and it’s perfect, the music is so touching and cute. I don’t speak Romanian but this makes me shiver. An amazing debut from Romania, shame on the juries that night.
12th Place: PORTUGAL/Sara Tavares-Chamar a música (Real Placing: 8th-73 points)
Oh what a wonderful song, the music is beautiful and her voice is so pretty, also what a power does she has in the chorus, sweet but strong. The lyrics are also beautiful. Again Portugal giving us a great song.
13th Place: ICELAND/Sigga-Nætur (Real Placing: 12th-49 points)
What a nice song from Iceland, the vibe in this one is pretty and what a voice does she has, the chorus is the best part on this and yeah, I like this entry so much.
14th Place: SWEDEN/Roger Pontare & Marie Bergman-Stjärnorna (Real Placing: 13th-48 points)
Again a pretty ballad with two wonderful singers, I’m in love with Roger’s voice and Marie is such an elegant lady on stage, their voices are amazing together and the music is very charming, a nice entry from Sweden.
15th Place: CROATIA/Tony Cetinsky-Nek’ ti bude ljubav sva (Real Placing: 16th-27 points)
Awww this song is pretty, his voice is stunning and the music is very good, also he’s very handsome. I love the chorus so much and he delivers all his voice there.
16th Place: MALTA/Chris & Moira-More than love (Real Placing: 5th-96 points)
Again a nice melody with nice singers, I’m crazy for the music and the feeling on this songs, but maybe this song had so much to offer and didn’t do it. Maybe it was too much for a top 5 but I still like it.
17th Place: AUSTRIA/Petra Fey-Für den Frieden die Welt (Real Placing: 17th-19 points)
The music here is so good but I’m not so fond of her voice, and I like the chorus so much in this one. A nice average song from Austria that I think it has potential but failed to deliver it.
18th Place: BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA/Alma & Dejan-Ostani kraj mene (Real Placing: 15th-39 points)
This is such an amazing song, both are amazing singers and the music is so lovely, the cheering at the start is overwhelming and it makes me feel happy for them, a nice song from B&H and I feel bad because of putting this so low.
19th Place: SWITZERLAND/Duilio-Sto pregando (Real Placing: =19th-15 points)
Another ballad with a nice singer and a cute melody, but, as my problem with many of the songs that year, it’s forgettable, even I must admit that the chorus is the best part of it.
20th Place: SLOVAKIA/Tublatanka-Nekonečná pieseň (Real Placing: =19th-15 points)
The beginning is very nice and I love the verses, but my problem here is the chorus. kinda falls flat and it’s so contrasting to the verses, but still, I find this a nice debut.
21st Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Willeke Alberti-Waar is de zon (Real Placing: 23rd-4 points)
This ballad is so nice, but in a contest full of ballads, this fails to impress me, even I find the music lovely, it’s kinda boring, her voice is pretty though.
22nd Place: GREECE/Kostas Bigalis & The Sea Lovers-To trehandiri (Real Placing: 14th-44 points)
This intro is wonderful but the song turns to be repetitive and boring for me, although the music is so nice and tropical, but still, the song isn’t nice for me because of the chorus.
23rd Place: LITHUANIA/Ovidijus Vyšniauskas-Lopšinė mylimai (Real Placing: 25th-0 points/last)
A song that is nice but unfortunately isn’t memorable and it’s kinda boring, his voice is okay but overall this song isn’t good enough for me to place it higher, also, this didn’t deserve nul points.
24th Place: SPAIN/Alejandro Abad-Ella no es ella (Real Placing: 18th-17 points)
Oh another song I can’t stand this song as well, the lyrics aren’t so good and his voice is not for me, the music is kinda alright but still this song isn’t great.
25th Place: FRANCE/Nina Morato-Je suis un vrai garçon (Real Placing: 7th-74 points)
I hate this song so much, and it’s weird that I hate a song, this entry annoys me so much and her singing isn’t pleasant for me and the music makes me feel angry for some reason, the lyrics are amazing but the song...

Christine Sako
Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, Christine Sako spent some harsh winters bundled up indoors with a guitar and a notebook. Learning to play guitar right before the onset of her high school years in 2002, it didn’t take Christine long to figure out the best way to handle teenage angst and heartache was through writing music. Slowly but surely, she started making meager recordings to share with friends and anyone who would listen. Having finished school and knowing Minnesota winters were too much to take on, Christine packed up her essentials in 2012 and drove halfway across the country to San Diego, CA. Since then, she has been writing and recording with the inspiration that her relocation brought her. Her latest single is ‘Sediments’."'Sediments' is about the emotional foundation that builds up over the course of a long relationship and how the ending of that relationship does not immediately or ever completely dissolve what was created,” she says. ”Even though there is wear and erosion over time, the little bits that once were part of the rock that amassed over time still exist in whatever capacity the new space allows." Listen below.
Petra Jasmiina
‘YCHM’, the new single by Petra Jasmiina, celebrates independence, individuality and buying your own darn roses for Valentine’s Day. This fun, sassy splash of electronic pop combines a catchy hook with an important message of self-love and learning to enjoy your own company. Petra Jasmiina, a Finnish singer-songwriter living in New York City, is known for her fresh, unique indie pop sound and witty lyricism. Her debut EP, Cygnet, introduced her as a bright new artist in the New York indie scene, and has since opened doors to legendary music venues such as Pete’s Candy Store and Pianos. The artist names Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding and Halsey as her biggest influences, and one thing they all have in common is the skill to weave an important message into the fabric of a fun, light-hearted pop song. These are exactly the makings of ‘YCHM’. This collaboration between the Finnish singer-songwriter and Vietnamese-American electropop producer Wind Meets West tells the story of rising above a bad break-up and learning to love being on your own. Some light-hearted sass, and a beat to make you want to dance with yourself make ‘YCHM’ the perfect Valentine’s Day antidote. Listen below.
Fire In Her Eyes
With a bohemian sound characterised by majestic three-part harmonies, psychedelic band Fire In Her Eyes return with their newest single ‘Cosmic Connection’.This soulful, groovy pop song will take you on a journey through the cosmos. Merging hooky melodies with an effortless production sound, expect to wake up singing this song. Sisters Daniella and Natasha grew up with lifelong friend Gabrielle, writing songs together from a young age, which founded their special musical chemistry. The girls are joined by Peter on the electric guitar, bringing classic licks to elevate their sound. Listen to ‘Cosmic Connetion’ below.
Aurelia de la Costa
LA-based Aurelia de la Costa is a determined and eclectic musician drawing influences from all types of music. She collaborates with many different vocalists, choosing them based on the feel of the song. Julie sings on her single ‘Lazy Days’. “‘Lazy Days’ is just a mellow recollection of the past summers, when the times were happier and easier even though the love was lost.” Listen below.

KIPANI
Kipani is an artist based in Upstate New York. Her popular single ‘Above’ marked her acceptance into the indie pop community. She released her first EP, Take a Minute, in June 2020. It is a project exposing vulnerability, personal struggles, and insecurity, all meticulously masked with an upbeat pop edge. Since then her and her band have been making waves across Upstate New York. ‘Admit Defeat' is the first single release of the new year and it's also the first release off Kipani's full length album, Mediocracy, dur to drop this summer. “This song is all about that overwhelming feeling that you just can't get a break,” she says. “It's haunting in its arrangement and captures honest raw emotion. The crescendo towards the end evokes the final breaking point of just giving up and ultimately making peace with "admitting your defeat".” Listen below.

Girls Like Us
London trio Girls Like Us were formed in 2018 and are inspired by 90s grunge, the riot grrl movement and feminism. Their latest single ‘Not Your Baby’ was written by singer and bassist Amelia and was recorded and produced by drummer Blue Geen. Collaborating back and forth on separate sides of London they managed to individually record their parts from their homes. The band say: “The song is about getting away from a very toxic relationship, being in a dark place because of the impact of this and finally establishing the fact that you’re not their “property” and don’t belong to them. It’s kind of about breaking free.” Apart from playing together in our band, both Lauren and Geen work in sound production and Amelia puts on events under Cigarette Pie. “Everything we do in life is revolves around music and creativity. I think that’s why we gel so well together. We also love getting drunk so that’s also another reason haha.” Listen to ‘Not Your Baby’ below.
Niamhy Mac
Niamhy Mac is a Scottish 18 year old singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. She recently released her debut EP Don't Wish Your Life Away which consists of five songs which she wrote and performed entirely by herself. She is an unsigned artist, and her dad helps her produce the songs, therefore she gets full control of her ideas. She is influenced by a variety of genres such as alternative rock, punk, folk and her roots of Scottish traditional music, all of which is evident in her songs. “In general, the message of the song ‘Pacify’ is advising people not to overthink,” says Niamh. “I wanted to deal with it in a relatable, compassionate way. Since it is something that I struggle with, as does everyone at times, I made this song as a gentle reminded to myself and others.” Listen below.

Review: ‘Do What U Want’ by Moonsoup
Tumblr media
Moonsoup are a new band fronted and formed by Falkirk based singer songwriter Niamh Baker, with the help of Melissa Brisbane who mastered the record, as well as a list of local DIY musicians who played/performed/recorded and just in general helped make this little 4 track EP the gem it is!
The general vibe of the EP, is hazy and folk-based, while the guitar style and moody drums mean that these songs would not sound altogether out of place on commercial radio.
First track ‘Fucked Friday’ is clearly about regrets, and letting your friends down after a rough night on the tiles. Yet somehow the way the guitar plays under the lyrics, and the prominence of drum beat, means you can’t help but tap your feet. It makes you forget the actual subject of the song, until the song closes with distortion and talking which add to the idea of confusion around a rough night (lets face it, we’ve all been there, right?).
‘Joanne and Leo’ is up next, and along with the end track ‘Thanks for the Advice, Rick’, makes for a lovely pairing. They feel like natural progressions of one another - ‘Joanne and Leo’ is about falling in love, and ‘Thanks for the Advice, Rick’ is about heartbreak, and falling for someone you shouldn’t have. They are perfectly matched, and both boast lovely hazy, folk melodies.
Middle track ‘Contrary’ feels like something Haim would happily put out on their next record. It has summer vibes. The guitar comes in mid-bridge, and alongside the bass, thumps its way throughout. A perfect summer evening tune!
The one thing I like most about this whole EP is the wavering chorus effect on the guitars, giving them that slightly ‘out of key’ sound, giving the songs an edge and depth. This is a stellar release, and hopefully is a sign of great things to come from Moonsoup. I for one cant wait to hear what else Niamh has hidden up her sleeves!
Tumblr media
To get a bit of insight into the EP and what’s on the horizon for the band, we caught up with Niamh to ask a few questions...
How long have you been making music?
I guess that has a few different answers. I’ve been writing silly songs since I was a young gal. Sang all the time since I can remember and I started guitar when I was 13. I kinda mucked about for a while but I'd say I was 15 when I tried to seriously write stuff. I wouldn't say i was writing anything very good until I was around 18 though.
What was the main inspiration for your new EP, ‘Do What u Want’?
As a whole I think a lot of it was inspired by moving out and growing up and "finding yourself" as cringey as that sounds. Most of it was recorded in my flat. I like how much I feel we've captured my first crappy little flat in the songs. I moved out of my family home last summer and I definitely did a lot of growing up. I've always been pretty mature for my age in a sense but it's been a whole new way of living to adjust to. I gained a lot more self assurance I think and that's pretty much where the name came from really - I've been trying to accept that I can't please everyone all the time. I wrote a couple of the songs amongst this time so a lot of it is kind of just about having fun with the newfound freedom. There's a bit of a darker side to it too though I guess.
Musically, who inspires you most?
I always find that a difficult question because I listen to a lot of different music and just want to make whatever it is I'm listening to really. I'm currently listening to a lot of King Krule, super into what he does. Combining a lot of different stuff to make a unique and distinctive sound is quite inspiring to me. I think I'm influenced by a lot of different stuff to be honest. Local stuff inspires me a lot too, I'm always baffled by talented friends like Sulka, Quitter, Constant Follower; and December ‘91.
Do you think it’s harder to be a woman in the music industry?
I mean I don't know what it's like to be a man in the music industry so I don't think I'll ever fully know or understand. I try not to think about it to be honest which may be part of the problem but I don't like focusing on it too much because then I think it's more enhanced in my head. I'm sure everyone experiences things they aren't happy with because that's just life. There's definitely stuff I dislike but I think it's constantly getting better and if we all do our best to make that the case then what more can you ask for really. I'm also not too experienced in the industry yet so maybe I'll have more to say about it in the future.
If you could collaborate with anyone on a song, who would it be and why?
I think I'd choose either Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Adrianne Lenker (Big Thief) or Kristine Leschper (Mothers). Purely because they write the most beautiful lyrics and I'd just love to see that in action or at least talk to them about it. Also I feel like we would write real cool songs together that would be cool, someone make that happen please.
Where did you come up with the name Moonsoup?
I wanted to have some sort of moon or space word because it's just something I've been into since I was young and I guess has some sort of meaning. I was kind of just in bed one night thinking up things based around that and I thought of Moonsoup and it just sort of sounded good to me. I wanted something goofy but maybe a little meaning too. Something to remind myself to just have fun and not think into everything too much.
And finally, if you were stuck on a desert island, what is the one thing you would make sure you had on you?
Probably my notebook and pen. I mean I guess all the other essentials too but if we're excluding them my journal feels pretty important. Gotta document those fun times on the island ya know.

This past week I received an email from a PR company in Ireland. After a handful of emails and a lovely Zoom call with Colm Slattery I’ve got a new source for indie music. Colm is part of a three person team at events and promotions company Fluttertone.com based in Dublin, Ireland. I appreciated the cooperative nature of the conversation.
I’m delighted to present to you our first four Irish indie artists.
ARTIST: NÍV SONG:Moonlight NOTES: Our first artist is Irish singer songwriter Niamh Murray. The singer-songwriter from Kildare, IE goes by the stage name NÍV.
NÍV’s solo work comes after years of singing lead in bands, collecting experience, and playing gigs and festivals. She lists artists such as The Cranberries, Damien Rice, and Joni Mitchell as influences, as well as traditional Irish music and folk songs. Moonlight is beautiful and memorable.
“I think that this song really depicts a constant love. It is a story of love that doesn’t ever really go away, even if the relationship does. I think there is always a specific moment or memory that people remember when reminiscing on past relationships and the song encapsulates that. We always seem to remember specific moments and in most cases, it’s the happy ones that we remember over the not so happy ones. When writing this song, it was kind of a realisation for me that in any relationship, romantic or non romantic, we always remember the better times which to me is a really positive thing. That’s what this song is all about.”

ARTIST: Craig Cooney SONG: Better Than This NOTES: Another artist who originated out of Kildare is Craig Cooney. He’s a 26 year old rapper who now calls Dublin home. He’s has been making music professionally for a relatively short time, around 2 and half years, but his uniqueness has helped him to attain a good level of success. Cooney lists Macklemore, Dermot Kennedy, and J. Cole as his influences. Better Than This is a positive, fun, energetic, cheerful, supportive track that’s perfect for summer.
Craig Says “when things are going good, people will usually say “It won’t get better than this” The reason I wrote this song is to show people that we don’t have to settle for less, we have to keep pushing for what we all deserve , which is the best. Life should be enjoyed, we embrace the ups and downs and we grow and we learn, enjoying the journey that shapes us in to the people we are today”.

ARTIST: Fintan McKahey SONG: Goodbye NOTES: The press kit describes this tune as lo-fi pop. That’s a new one for me. His Facebook page lists the genre as Psychedelic Pop/Indie Folk/Alternative/Downtempo. Whatever we’re calling it, I like it. It’s chill and rich.
Goodbye offers up acoustic elements accompanied by downtempo beats, and ambient production. Fintan is joined by fellow Irish singer Ava Archbold who delivers a delicious, dreamy performance. The pairing is exquisite. Their voices complement each other perfectly.
“Goodbye is a love song, looking at things from the other side of the fence. It’s an observation of the struggle at the end of a relationship, when both sides are clinging on in hope of salvation.” – –fluttertone.com
The lyrics are honest and the chorus is spot on.
I WANNA CALL YOU AND I FIND IT EASY TO ADORE YOU AND WHY? DON’T SAY GOODBYE, WE COULD TRY FOR THE LAST TIME
MAYBE I WAS WRONG BUT I FOUND IT EASIER TO FALL FOR YOUR LIES DON’T SAY GOODBYE, WE COULD TRY FOR THE LAST TIME
We’ve all been there.
Fintan comes from a musical family and started playing at a young age. McKahey is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer who lists his influences as Ben Howard, Chet Faker, and Still Woozy.

ARTIST: Elina Filice SONG: Thinking of you NOTES: This Irish indie artist comes to us via Canada. Keep your eye on the video and you might recognize some familiar places. The video was shot in Toronto by Toronto-based filmmaker Phil Kim, and co-stars Ally Cantalini. The video follows Elina on an adventure from Kensington Market, to the Island Ferry, to Toronto Island, and then finally back home to the bedroom. I love this video. It’s awash with positivity, warmth, and good feelings.
She says, “The song discusses themes of movement, travel, and adventure, so I wanted to capture that by shooting different scenes across the city.” She goes on to say, “The song is verbose, rambling, and nostalgic, with thoughts and memories swirling and haunting. I wanted to capture that with the scenes cutting forward and back in time. I want viewers to wonder if the scenes with Ally are happening in real time or if they’re memories and flashbacks, and the journey is really happening alone.”
Elina says, “The video is pretty gay. It’s a little nerve-wracking to be this gay on camera, but… this is my life, this is my friends’ lives. Queer visibility is important, and as a creator, honest content like this is my way of fighting to normalize queerness and queer love. I think it’s important to recognize that feeling safe enough to be openly out, let alone shooting a music video like this, isn’t possible for a lot of queer people around the world. Queerness, especially between women, is usually blatantly oversexuallized, so I wanted the scenes between myself and Ally to be intimate and loving, and not at all sexual. There’s enough of that on the internet.”
Elina was born to Canadian parents, grew up in Singapore, and then moved to Canada to attend University. She made the move to Dublin in September 2017  to pursue music more seriously, and completed two diplomas at BIMM Dublin.
This multi-talented artist has previously released an EP and several singles, and she’s toured extensively both on her own and with her band, the Kicks. She’s also started a coaching and consulting service called Red Vine Music. It assists artists and creatives with social media, digital marketing, and content strategies. You can also catch Elina writing for music blog fruitsonic.com.
“Thinking of You has over 215k streams on Spotify, and enjoyed news coverage from dozens of outlets following its release including Earmilk, Hot Press, For The Love Of Bands, and The Last Mixed Tape. The song has spent over twelve weeks on Spotify Editorial Playlist, “Butter.”
With funky guitar licks, an infectious beat, and a stuck-in-your-head chorus, Thinking of You is a genre-defying track that melds pop and funk influences with modern hip-hop sounds, while still full of Elina’s signature thoughtful lyrics, catchy hooks, and strong storytelling.” –fluttertone.com

Eurovision 1993 my top 25
Tumblr media
Hello, and welcome to another episode of this series of ESC tops, and I go back to May 15, 1993, when the 38th edition of the Eurovision was held in Millstreet, Ireland, after Linda Martin’s win in Malmö last year. This was the biggest contest at the time, with 25 countries participating, Yugoslavia withdrew because they were sanctioned by the UN because of the war, while Bosnia & Herzegovina, Slovenia and Croatia all debuted, and qualified from a prequalifying round, beating Estonia, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia. The contest was won again by Ireland with Niamh Kavanagh and the song In your Eyes, making this their 5th victory and they won two times in a row. And now let’s review the songs.
1st Place: IRELAND/Niamh Kavanagh-In your eyes (Real Placing: 1st-187 points)
This entry... OH THIS ENTRY. Niamh has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard and here she sounds astonishing, the music is pretty and the lyrics are very good. This entry is wonderful and of course, this is such a deserving winner and what a song! I LOVE YOU NIAMH.
2nd Place: NORWAY/Silje Vige-Alle mine tankar (Real Placing: 5th-120 points)
Another entry that’s so good that I can feel what she’s singing. The music is quite unusual for Norway but for me it works so well and the chorus is amazing with all the clapping, it’s so cool. Silje, what a wonderful voice do you have.
3rd Place: SWITZERLAND/Annie Cotton-Moi, tout simplement (Real Placing: 3rd-148 points)
This is such a masterpiece, the music is beautiful and she has such a nice voice. She’s such a charming singer and the lyrics are so meaningful to me, also her performance is so beautiful and she’s so cute. A nice entry from Switzerland. C’MON SWITZERLAND, YOU’LL DO AMAZING AGAIN.
4th Place: SWEDEN/Arvingarna-Eloise (Real Placing: 7th-89 points)
Oh this is wonderful, one of my favorites from the 90′s, they are amazing together and the music is so pretty, also the orchestra is amazing in this one and HEJA SVERIGE.
5th Place: FINLAND/Katri Helena-Tule luo (Real Placing: 17th-20 points)
This entry is so elegant and classy, sung by a singer with a wonderful voice, I like this entry more than her song in 1979, this one has nice music and the chorus is so memorable. A very nice entry and one of my faves from this year.
6th Place: SPAIN/Eva Santamaría-Hombres (Real Placing: 11th-58 points)
This is such a crazy and interesting song, the lyrics are very funny but at the same time nice. The music on this one is upbeat and I like the arrangement of the orchestra on this one. Her voice is very strong too and I like her.
7th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Sonia-Better the devil you know (2nd-164 points)
Another entry with a rock vibe, and this one is very catchy and effective. Her voice is so nice and the music is very happy, also the lyrics are good and I love this song.
8th Place: PORTUGAL/Anabela-A cidade (até ser dia) (Real Placing: 10th-60 points)
Awww again such a cute song and a cute singer, the music is so nice on this one and her voice is superb, a nice song from Portugal, and IMO this deserved more.
9th Place: GERMANY/Münchener Freiheit-Viel zu weit (Real Placing: 18th-18 points)
This song is so touching for me and the music is wonderful, it’s one of my favorite German entries and IMO one of the most underrated ever. Oh my heart is with this song.
10th Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Ruth Jacott-Vrede (Real Placing: 6th-62 points)
I feel so bad because of putting this so low, this is so 90′s and the music is well done in this one, also her voice is so good and the performance is perfect, the lyrics are very touching and this is one of my fave Dutch entries.
11th Place: GREECE/Kathy Garbi-Ellada, hora tou fotos (Real Placing: 9th-64 points)
What a nice entry this one, the music is so ethnic and wonderful, and she’s such a nice singer. I’ve always liked this song and I can be still when I’m listening to this.
12th Place: ICELAND/Inga-Þá veistu svarið (Real Placing: 13th-42 points)
Awww this entry is so cozy and cute, the music and the saxophone complement so well, her voice is so lovely and I don’t know, such a wonderful entry.
13th Place: BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA/Fazla-Sva bol svijeta (Real Placing: 16th-27 points)
This entry is amazing! You can really feel the pain of Bosnia in this song, the singers are powerful and the music is so epic. Also this makes me cry so much and what a debut entry from B&H.
14th Place: ITALY/Enrico Ruggeri-Sole d’Europa (Real Placing: 12th-45 placing)
What a warm entry, I love his voice and the music is epic, sounds like something from a musical. The environment on this one is perfect and it’s such a wonderful song.
15th Place: FRANCE/Patrick Fiori-Mama Corsica (Real Placing: 4th-121 points)
I like this song and it was so hard for me to rank it in my top, he’s such a charming and good singer, also the music is very good and the fact that this is partly Corsican is wonderful.
16th Place: SLOVENIA/1X Band-Tih dezeven dan (Real Placing: =22nd-9 points)
Oh this entry is one of my favorites from this year. The music is very pleasant to hear and I like their voices. This is so memorable and enjoyable, and certainly an amazing debut for Slovenia.
17th Place: DENMARK/Tommy Seebach Band-Under stjernerne på himlen (Real Placing: =22nd-9 points)
Another lovely song and Tommy’s such a nice singer. The music is very nice and the chorus is so wonderful. and the whistling is a very cute detail for this song. Didn’t deserve the placing it got.
18th Place: BELGIUM/Barbara Dex-Iemands als jij (Real Placing: 25th-3 points/last)
This is such a nice little ballad, her voice is so cute and the music is lovely, this didn’t deserve last place, the dress was horrible, but I’ve seen worst outfits before and after this dress. A nice overall song.
19th Place: AUSTRIA/Tony Wegas-Maria Magdalena (Real Placing: 14th-32 points)
Another upbeat song and with the same singer as in 1992, but this song is slightly worst than his entry last year. The music is great and his voice is nice, but I think something is missing on this one for me to like it more.
20th Place: CROATIA/Put-Don’t ever cry (Real Placing: 15th-31 points)
This song is kinda sweet but IMO is quite boring, the music is nice, they sing well but this isn’t my cup of tea.
21st Place: MALTA/William Mangion-This time (Real Placing: 8th-69 points)
I don’t like the music on this one, because it’s kinda mediocre and the performance wasn’t great. I also think this is boring at some point on the verses, but his voice is great.
22nd Place: LUXEMBOURG/Modern Times-Donne-moi une chance (Real Placing: 20th-11 points)
Ok this is so nostalgic and sad, the music is nice and their voices are good, but this isn’t very remarkable. Sadly the best part of this is the chorus. Also this was Luxembourg’s last song in the contest, and hasn’t returned since.
23rd Place: CYPRUS/Zimboulakis & Van Beke-Mi stamatas (Real Placing: 19th-17 points)
Another song that is quite lame for me, their voices are very good but the problem here is the music, because isn’t very remarkable.
24th Place: ISRAEL/Lakahat Shiru-Shiru (Real Placing: 24rd-4 points)
Not my cup of tea, this is kinda boring and the music is lame, but I can’t deny the singers are good. Not so memorable and not one of Israel’s best songs.
25th Place: TURKEY/Burak Aydos-Esmer yarim (Real Placing: 21st-10 points)
Oh this song is so annoying for me, his voice is irritating and the music is also very bad, I can’t stand this entry and the backing singers weren’t good. Not one of Turkey’s best songs and IMO one of the worst songs.
