okay honestly why did they make us memorize and recite any body of text in school like. it was well suited to me bc i loved that shit but so many kids struggled with it and what did it even accomplish. and im not talking about memorizing and reciting facts for a test like thats fucked up too but i mean like. in 3rd grade we had to memorize the entirety of where the wild things are and then recite it to the teacher. what was the point
