Can you tell that as a sky fan, I'm REALLY obsessed with the star part of ISAT? I just think it'd be neat if they were a skykid.
Also sorry towards all my sky followers, but I now love In Stars And Time so much. Slaps it this thing has so much crossover potential with Sky
Bonus comic of Siffrin slowly and unintentionally chipping away at Odile's sanity by being a skid at heart under cut

In Stars and Time AU: Sif Puts The Star In Starcraft
Wow the ISAT fandom has a lot of cool AUs. That's a lot of fun! What if my extremely good buddy @lazuliquetzal theorized while playing ISAT for the first time that Sif was a fallen star? What then? What if I have unsuccessfully tried to restrain myself from talking about it?
Anyway AU where Sif is a star and also a gamer.
Sif is a hip Gen Z star who doesn't go outside nearly enough and spends all of their time playing videogames watching Earth. Their sibling Loop is always telling them to stop touching grass and to get their head back in the clouds, but they can't help it - they might miss the newest adventures of their favorite humans! Look at them, they're questing! Aren't they so cool? Isabeau just got a rare item drop!
Mirabelle and Isabeau are cool. They're brave, strong, nice, and best friends. Sif loves watching their heroic quest and cool adventures. After a while they even feel like his real friends. Eventually they start making a wish on themself - if they could only join them on their adventure! Get out of my room Loop I don't know what a parasocial relationship is.
Mirabelle is scared. Mirabelle is worrying that she's leading Isabeau on a doomed journey, that their struggle is destined to end in their deaths. She doesn't know if she can do this at all. Why her? Why not somebody more competent, more worthy? In a moment of desperation, she clasps her hands together and makes a desperate wish upon a star from the very bottom of her heart - that her party will be protected. That the Change God will send somebody to help them and keep them safe and save the world. Somebody, anybody, a little more competent than her.
Sif logs on.
Sif is a stroke of luck. Sif is mysterious, cool, and very talented. Sif can protect the whole party with a smirk on their face and a quip on their tongue. They're cool. He cheers you up, he's reliable, they're strong, and they are a treasured member of the party. They're a treasured friend. Things might be hard and scary, but with Sif there everybody breathes a little easier.
Sif loves, loves, loves being a human! The world is so fun and exciting, nothing like the boring and dreary cosmos! They have croissants, trees, friends! Being a human is great. They have an entire life on Earth, one way nicer than in the boring old sky that never changes. Sorry, Loop, they're skipping dinner, they have a World of Warcraft guild raid adventure with Mira today!
Sif has a job to do. Sif's here to grant a wish, and Sif is going to earn his place here. They protect the spirits of their friends by joking and keeping everybody hopeful. No friends get injured on their watch! Even if Sif gets hurt, that's part of the job. Bonnie's just upset about the eye because they don't know it's Sif's job as their friend to protect them. There's no point in feeding them during snacktime, so they'll patrol while you guys relax. Sif can't tell them how lonely they are or how they don't want this adventure to end, that's burdening them. They can't know that Sif's not really their friend, that they're not human, that their only point is their job - that's not protecting them. Get out of my ROOM PLANET, Loop, I'm NOT turning off the game touching space! It's not a game to them, it's their lives. Even if it'll never be Sif's.
But this adventure is drawing to a close. Mirabelle wished upon a star, and a star fell, and the star's about to grant her wish. And the star will have to log off. Even if the star wants to a be human, even if the star wants to be together forever - the game ends. Even if this ending really freaking sucks.
Why does this have to be a JRPG? Why can't it be one of the good games, the games that you can play forever and ever - like a farming/life simulator or an MMORPG or something? Where you do the same chores every day and nothing ever changes, and you're happy and safe in this little town forever? Everybody seperating at the end isn't a happy ending. Sif hates this ending. Sif hates this genre. Sif can't log off. They can't protect their friends if they log off. It's their job to protect their friends. They have to play the game right and create an ending that makes sure everybody is safe and happy and everything's perfect.
The party - Sif's family - reaches the third floor. Sif cracks open his Star AO3 account. Mirabelle unlocks the door and swings it open to find…
What's a coffee shop doing here?

um in depth thoughts about my isat pokemon au I guess lol
Siffrin
Gimmighoul has been with Siffrin since around the coin incident. It carries around his silver coin and just kinda stuck around.
Idol Pikachu and Pawniard have been with Sif since he can remember. I thought a generic cute mon like Pikachu would match with his own generic but cute design while the idol cosplay references his love for stage plays. Pawniard being a mon associated with blades matches with his scissor type, him using a dagger, and his hobby of wood carving.
The Psychic types are all Pokemon Siffrin aquired during the loops and represent aspects of their character that are explored during the events of the game. Beeheeyem is an alien-like Pokemon that can manipulate memories and represents Sif's feelings of alienation and his memory issues. Clefable are associated with space and look up to the sky at moonlit nights yearning for their home, representing his homesickness. And Gothitelle can see the future by looking into the starsky, sometimes grieving when they see their trainer's lifespan. It represents Siffrin's fear of the future.
Pikachu is their main Pokemon. I've also thought about giving them a Klefki which would suit their role as a Rogue but they already had a full team of six and I was pretty happy with the choices.
Mirabelle
Luvdisc, Tinkaton, and Alomomola are all mons that have been with Mira since before her journey. I gave her Luvdisc since it's said that couples who see those would be blessed with eternal love and I feel like that myth is the kinda thing she would be into, given she enjoys romance fiction. Alomamola is here both because it's a healer Pokemon, and because people compare it to Luvdisc a lot. And Tikaton feels like the brand of cute but powerful/menacing that I think suits Mira.
Virizion, Aegislash, and Gallade are all Pokemon that more or less play into her Chosen One role. Virizion she got soon after she recieved Euphrasie's blessing. It felt appropriate to give her a Legendary Pokemon and I decided to go with one of the Swords of Justice since she herself is a swordfighter and the Swords are known as fierce protectors, matching her and her role. I picked Virizion specifically since its known for its speed which feels like a fitting contrast to the King's ability to freeze time plus there's some irony with it being a Grass Type while Mirabelle isn't very good at raising plants.
Aegislash still follows the swordfighter theme and is possibly the mon that embodies her Chosen One role the most, despite Virizion. In the past people who where chosen by Aegislash were to become kings, which again has some irony considering it's pointed out how strange it is that Vaugardians refer to the King as such seeing as it's not a monarchy. But I mostly thought of it from the angle of Mirabelle supposedly being chosen by divinity. I think she either got this Pokemon as a gift from Euphrasie when the house was frozen or a pre-evolved form from a Vaugardian citizen. Additionally Aegislash is a Pokemon from Kalos, which is based on France. And yknow Vaugarde takes inspiration from France too.
Gallade I think was her last Pokemon added to the team. It's kind of a generic heroic and noble Pokemon. It's pre-evolved form can also see into the future matching Mira's strive towards the future and change. I also thought it would be cute to have her match with Isabeau's Gardevoir.
I think Mirabelle's main mon would either be Tinkaton or Virizion. Though I have to say in retrospect I really regret not giving her a female Jellicent because I would happily replace either Tinkaton or Alomomola with one. Like it's a cute Pokemon that's actually really morbid and drowns people. Mirabelle is a sweet and anxious person who surpisingly loves horror books. Why didn't I think of this earlier!! Agh anyway, I also felt it was appropriate to make her the one person to have a full team of six besides Siffrin.
Odile
Hatterene, Lapras, and Mawile are all Pokemon Odile already had before coming to Vaugard. Hatterene resembles a witch, matching with Odile being a mage. It's also a Pokemon that can sense the emotions of other living things, gets overwhelmed by them, and acts aggressive in response which I feel suits with Odile coming across as cold and abrasive and not being very good at feelings. Lapras is here because it's a mon known for travelling long distances across the sea and we know Ka Bue is very far off from Vaugarde. Additionally the species used to be endangered so it might throw in a red herring about what Odile's research is about.
Hatterene and Lapras also both have this imposing regal presence which fits the surface level impression one might get from Odile. Serperior continues this pattern of being regal and imposing but I also put it here for other reasons. I wanted to reflect Odile being half-Vaugardian and longing to connect with Vaugardian culture in her team, so I chose to give her a Serperior which has an obvious french influence with its Fleur de lis patterns. Though I also chose it because it's one of my favorite Pokemon and Odile is my favorite character after Loop and Siffrin 👍
On the other end I also wanted a Pokemon with a clear Japanese ispiration since she comes from Ka Bue, which also has Japanese inspiration. So I gave her Mawile which is based on the yōkai Futakuchi-onna. I also thought it would be fitting to give her a literal two-faced Pokemon since she comes across as rather harsh and logical but genuinely cares for her party and has a soft side.
Lastly she has a Dedenne which I imagine she picked up during her journey with the party. A lot of scientists in Pokemon have Electric-Steel dual types which I wanted to give her since she's a researcher but nothing really fit. Instead she got a Steel Type with Mawile and an Electric Type with Dedenne! Which, by the way, is unlike Serperior an actual kalonian Pokemon so it adds to that theme too. Dedenne also uses its whiskers as antennas to communicate over vast distances and I'm sure she'd appreciate a Pokemon this convenient. Sidenote in the tags of my original ISAT Pokemon team post someone said they liked the contrast between Odile's overall more graceful Pokemon and then there's Dedenne which actually isn't even something I really thought about!
I believe Hatterene would be Odile's main. Other considerations for her team would've been Froslass instead of Mawile, though I decided Mawile fits better, and Delphox which is both a mage and another kalonian Pokemon.
Isabeau
Abra is a Pokemon Isa has had since he was a child. He was a nerdy kid and the third evolution stage, Alakazam, is well known for being intelligent so it fits. Though it still remains in its first stage since Isa hasn't been training it in battle for a long time, but its still important to him and part of his team.
Machamp and Gardevoir are also Pokemon who have been with him for a long time, becoming part of his team not long before he joined the Defenders. Again, Gardevoir matches with Mirabelle's Gallade. It's also a very protective and loyal Pokemon and it's pre-evolved form is rather perceptive of other's emotions. Meanwhile Machamp is a strong physical fighter.
Furfrou and Eevee are more recent additions to his team, joining Isabeau during his journey with the party. Furfrou are from Kalos and used to be royal guard dogs though nowadays they're popular for how much their fur can be styled, which suits Isa's desire to become a fashion designer imo. As for Eevee, which can evolve in many different ways and really suits the whole theme of change, I was actually considering giving him an Eeveelution but Isa is very well aware that he still wants to grow and change as a person so an unevolved Eevee matches him in that. I also just think a simple cute Pokemon like that would speak to his tastes.
I think Gardevoir would be his main mon though I can also see his Eevee becoming one.
Bonnie
Pansear and Slurpuff are both Pokemon Bonnie has had since before the King. Pansear is here both because I really wanted to give Bonnie a fire type and because I always associate it with cooking/baking because I always remember one specific baker npc from Pokemon Black and White that uses a Pansear lol. Slurpuff is obviously a food based Pokemon and again, from Kalos. It also has a strong sense of smell which would be useful to Bon.
Riolu joined the team during Bonnie's journey. It is an active and energetic baby Pokemon which suits Bonnie wanting to play their part in the party but being put on the sidelines by the adults. Something about Bonnie wanting to be strong and Riolu evolving into a strong mon.
Pansear is their main but I can see Riolu reaching that status too. I also thought it would be fitting to have Bonnie have the smallest team.
Loop
Gimmighoul is the one Pokemon they could never get rid of, and the only one remaining from their original timeline.
Mimikyu is meant to be a twisted reflection of Siffrin's Pikachu. A pitiful envious reflection that is in reality much more unpleasant than the real thing.
Celebi is here both because of timetravel and because it lives in forests and Loop always sits under the Favor Tree. Funfact! One of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games has a plot about time being frozen where a supporting character is a Celebi.
Yamask actually manifest from the ghosts of passed away people. Their mask will show their face as it was when they were still living and sometimes they will look at it in grief.
Xurkitree is here partially because of its design, yes, but also because it can enter and tree-like state. and Favor Tree.
I think Gimmighoul would be their main. Potential Pokemon I considered Blacephalon but I couldn't really justify it beyond "they're goofy so they get a clown pokemon" and giving them a mythical and one ultra beast was enough. plus while them having a full team would be appropriate with their secret boss status, I can hardly imagine Loop really taking care of their mons much, especially not a full team.
okay that w as a lot im gonna go to bed now goodnight. passes out

Spoilers for isat
Completely unrelated to my previous post, I can't remember why exactly there was a tear in the sky at the end? Was it because the wish was failing? Is that how it works-? It's just like not totally but like really important or whatever for like no reason for like completely non-AU related shenanigans so

...Turns out the post limit is still a thing that exists and is per account rather than per blog, so if you have two blogs that regularly have a queue of 20+ things a day and also go on a wild reblogging spree, you may run into errors far earlier than you'd expect!!! Whoops.
That said, that was an enjoyable reblogging spree, and an enjoyable liking and reading spree after that.
I'm very fond of the identity issues stuff that comes up in these shifter / doppelganger AUs, from the initial PapChat one, to LeshyLeaf's take on it, to this latest one. Given one of the asks mentioned the earlier duo, I'm assuming the artist knows of them, but this one takes a significantly different approach with the worldbuilding and the changes and I enjoyed it.
The tangle of a hunger-driven shifting entitity taking over the bones and life for its own, only to gain memories and emotions and context and feel guilty and avoidant about what it's done... The need of emotions or souls for food, the simultaneous motivation to stay close to the loved ones while also increasingly doubting their love, being sure they'd turn on him once the truth came out, that tangle of wanting to live and yet wanting to die rather than have them know...
Vampires don't quite get at whatever that is, and I'm not sure what other archetype I could find elsewhere that would, but it scratches some kind of id fic itch very well.
...Ah. lol. I'm realizing I could do an AU not quite that, but hitting some of those emotional beats, with the latest game I am very enthusiastic about - In Stars And Time.
ISAT, full game spoilers (including act 6 secrets)
They don't in ISAT - it's a story that ends mostly happily, after all! We don't know exactly what happens there, other than Loop doing an extremely anime fading away but with the promise to return somehow. They don't, because they've changed but there's essential ways they're still the same person, and all.
... After you fight with Loop, with one or both of the outcomes - I'd have to doublecheck - they mention they wanted to kill Siffrin and take his place.
... But suppose they had? Suppose they had killed Siffrin, and poured their light and night sky essence into the body, using wish craft or healing or something to bring the body back to life but Loop at the wheel.
The others had already seen Siffrin being awkward with guilt/shame and desperate joy over how badly they wanted to be loved and stay with them all. Would Loop's behavior read as more of the same, if sometimes slipping on names, forgetting more things about before the House than expected?
...Would Loop play it off convincingly, but increasingly feel like an intruder, hating themself and withdrawing from the people trying to reach out to [Siffrin]? Would they eventually admit parts of the truth, that Siffrin went back to the tree to find Loop? Would they admit that Loop had always also been Siffrin? Would they imply they'd combined, dodging the truth of the murder thing, and nudge the others to think that's why some things are off?
(Would it actually be that they had in fact combined despite the murder attempt, given the healing to get the body up and at it again? Would it be more self hatred based on misconceptions, like so much of Siffrin's worst narration through the game is?)
(...Well, this is about the fear and expectations of hatred, so probably not, or at least mostly not. The replacing and then feeling trapped with love not meant for them but needing that love to live... That's the tangle of interest, I think.)

I have had Thoughts about ISAT and Siffrin in a Fae AU.
The time loop is wonderful but it definitely fit a game format painfully well. So. Siffrin as a fae! Can't lie but can avoid the truth. Can cast magic but can't change reality. Holds power when it comes to promises and debts (has no power when it comes to rules).
And, hey! There's different types of fae, and maybe Siffrin comes from the forgotten ones. Not of the summer court, or winter, or even the fall or spring. Not of the common varieties, or even the rare fae who sneak beneath the hills. Siffrin is of the stars from nowhere.
And then Siffrin meets Mirabelle, a hero who wishes to save her people. Maybe she's a witch, a maiden, a priestess, etc.
Mirabelle's got Isabeau and Odile, each with their own quirks. Maybe Odile's all too human. Maybe Isabeau isn't.
Siffrin joins them because he has nothing better to do. And then he falls in love.
And maybe the fae deal in promises. Siffrin can give them apples, pomegranates, favors - and then they wouldn't be able to leave. They'd owe him. Sure, that's not right or just, but...
Except Odile is smart, and won't give her name to just anyone. She's wise and sharp and looks concerned when she shouldn't. Not about Siffrin.
Isabeau is smart too, and kind. He gives back what's owed and then some. Says to think nothing of it, because they're friends.
Mirabelle means so well. She offers her hand, and it's hard to imagine offering cruelty in return even if it meant she wouldn't leave.
Bonnie doesn't deserve anything that Siffrin would could do to them.
So Siffrin the forgotten fae follows them, helping them fight and save Mirabelle's people. It's a disease, maybe, or magic cast by some great evil. Either way, it's what they've all banded together to do. Once they complete their quest...
...
Maybe Siffrin eats the pomegranate seeds all by their lonesome. Maybe they bind themself to everyone else, too afraid to let them go but loves them all too much to bind them to himself.
Maybe he splits into two.
Maybe the sky starts falling. Maybe the forgotten fae weren't meant to still exist, weren't meant to tie themselves to people, and... maybe Siffrin is lonely.
And maybe, because I'm a weak weak man, maybe Siffrin gets saved. Because they're loved. And in one universe, love wasn't enough, but in this one, maybe Mirabelle eats the pomegranate seeds with him. Isabeau and Odile too. Bonnie isn't allowed because they're too young, but. They promise to see Siffrin again.
This is a kinder universe. Promises mean something here (promises mean everything here).

Tuesday 3 Oct 2023
The Vibe is this: it was the first day of daylight savings today but the sky was dark the whole day because of Melbourne spring rain, which couldn't decide if it wanted to be humid or cold, but was absolutely sure that it was torrential.
Art My excuse for not working on any of my unfinished drawings this week is that I have to finish my homemade Flame Emperor mask by Saturday for PAX Aus. For first-time mask-makers, take note: air-drying clay doesn't work. Past Marv was a fool and didn't realise it would crack as soon as it dried. Present Marv is wiser and is attempting to use Plaster of Paris. Future Marv is likely laughing at her, and is hopefully the proud owner of a wonderfully shitty Flame Emperor mask. The works being hiatus'd on account of the mask are a cool picture of my 2 D&D characters, a massive picture for Edelgard's birthday which I started the day AFTER Edelgard's birthday in June and is no where near finished, and, a while back I bought a copy of 'Wyrd Sisters' with one of those newfangled minimalist-graphic covers, and I thought I'd add a bunch of my gaudy spooky illustrations to it. Witchify it. Which I should just do, I should just get that done.
Writing Recent-Past Marv made the...truly *bewildering* decision to try and print out and hand-bind a very large, very unfinished fanfiction, in multiple volumes, for her friend AND herself. A fanfiction, which neither Past Marv nor Present Marv has even read. Apparently Recent-Past Marv's idea was that the project would motivate her to read it, because for some reason she finds the Ao3 interface...unfriendly? The reasons for her reticence are arcane. Anyway, this bizarre project has eaten valuable writing time, and will likely continue to do so. Even so, I did have an opportunity to outline my first chapter of the next part of the project currently known as TDD, a draft I like quite a bit. Also, memory doesn't serve well but I think I spent a weirdly large amount of time working on a comic-isation of Dorothea and Manuela's supports (working title is 'Mittelfranks'), which, that was supposed to be three chapters and one self-indulgent fourth...it is now nine. ...look the very specific dynamic between these two characters feels like it was custom-designed to infiltrate my limbic system and mass-produce serotonin. But only time will tell if THAT project ever exceeds the scripting stage. I also had a chance to write a hand-written draft of a novel about my most recent D&D character. The concept feels like it's too much to chew though. Still, worth getting an idea down.
Reading Finished 'Wyrd Sisters' by Terry Pratchett the other day, which has taken like a month. It's the first book I've finished in about 2 years, and it's instantly become one of my all-time favourites -- it almost feels like it was written FOR me and that is a RARE feeling. I've been collecting quotes in a notebook, the 'collecting' giving me a further incentive for reading, but I only started collecting from page 40 of the book. I'm torn between moving on to the next thing on my To Read list, or going back to trawl through the 40 pages for cool quotes. Might as well spend just a little more time with this new friend. Here's the most recent quote I collected, from page 2: "A key to the understanding of all religion is that a god's idea of amusement is Snakes and Ladders with greased rungs." Damn, Pratchett out here with takes that have remained piping hot since 1988.
