there was once a woman in my life who carried a light in her mouth

and everything she said was aglow beyond what i could see

cave-slept, i was in a world not made for me

but her loving arms and the gentle way she spoke to me made it easy

i know i’ll never know, i know i’ll never keep up

but this woman with all her gorgeous light would slow down for me

and let me go on a long leash so i might

find my own way to understand, not walking in her shadow but by her side

even though she lived in this sparkling world not quite made for me
