i’m FROM the deep south and they actively avoid mentioning the reconstruction here even tho it’s like. the most important part to understanding the modern south 😭😭. thank you so much for the reading recs i’m gonna DEVOUR them!!!!

YES the deep south has some of the most interesting Reconstruction history because those states had the highest Black populations and thus the entire balance of power totally shifted with the Reconstruction Amendments for a while until the series of coups. Genuinely fascinating stuff especially in places like South Carolina and Mississippi
