Mobile phone coverage boost for the Lake District
Tumblr media
Rural towns and villages in the Lake District have become the first in England to benefit as government delivers on its plan to improve 4G mobile coverage in hard-to-reach areas. The first of 83 government-funded mast upgrades planned in England were switched on today (9 April) near the market town of Keswick in Cumbria. It means dozens of local businesses and community organisations in areas including Naddle, Thirlmere and St Johns-in-the-Vale, can now take advantage of better connectivity thanks to the Shared Rural Network – a £1 billion programme brokered by the government and joint-funded with mobile network operators aimed at increasing mobile coverage in rural areas. The boost has been carried out by upgrading existing mobile masts which previously only connected EE customers and anyone making 999 calls, meaning communities can benefit from improved connectivity without the visual impact involved when building new masts. It will enable residents, tourists and businesses to access reliable 4G coverage from all four mobile network operators – EE, VMO2, Three and Vodafone – closing the connectivity blackhole and boosting economic growth in the region. Digital Infrastructure Minister Julia Lopez said: We’re dialling up fast and reliable mobile coverage across the UK through the Shared Rural Network. Our latest upgrade in the Lake District is one of many we’re working hard to deliver as part of our mission to clamp down on the headache of mobile ‘not spots’. The coverage boost will provide endless benefits for communities and visitors, ensuring people stay connected on the go, enabling people to work more efficiently and attracting vital investment to the rural economy. Ben Roome, CEO of Digital Mobile Spectrum Limited (DMSL) said: In England, since the Shared Rural Network was announced in March 2020, 4G coverage from all four operators has expanded across an additional 5,400 square kilometres – an area larger than Norfolk. As more shared mobile sites go live, people visiting and living in rural areas will see better 4G service thanks to this programme. Today marks an important milestone in the rollout of the Shared Rural Network aiming to bring reliable 4G signal to 95 per cent of UK landmass by the end of 2025. Since the Shared Rural Network programme began in 2020, an additional 13,000 sq km – roughly the size of Northern Ireland or two million football pitches – have been able to receive coverage from all four operators, EE, Three VMO2 and Vodafone. The government and the UK’s four mobile network operators aim to provide coverage to an additional 280,000 premises and 16,000km of the UK’s roads. The programme also aims to improve geographic coverage to 79% of Areas of Natural Beauty, up from 51% before the programme launched, and 74% of National Parks up from 41%, benefitting millions of visitors every year. The UK government is investing around £500 million into the Shared Rural Network, including £184 million to upgrade Extended Area Service (EAS) masts to provide coverage from all four mobile operators. Currently, commercial coverage from EAS masts is only available from EE – the operator responsible for the Emergency Services Network. The remaining government funding will go towards eliminating total ‘not spots’, places where there is no coverage from any mobile operator. The telecoms sector is also investing over £500 million to target partial ‘not spots’, where customers can only access 4G if they’re signed up with a mobile network operator that is active in the area. This part of the programme has already delivered significant coverage improvements across the UK, including in the areas of Shetland, Yorkshire, Fermanagh and Devon. Read the full article

Major Boost in UK Bathing Water Sites
Tumblr media
Government New Bathing Site Plans
In a significant stride towards improving the UK's water quality, the government has unveiled plans to consult on the establishment of dozens of new bathing water sites across England. This initiative marks the largest ever rollout of its kind, further underlining the government's commitment to enhancing the cleanliness and safety of the nation's aquatic environments.   A Nationwide Consultation At the core of this initiative lies a two-week public consultation, actively fostering the voices of residents, bathers, businesses, and organizations to shape the future of England's bathing waters. Moreover, Water Minister Robbie Moore emphasizes the social, health, and wellbeing benefits that clean and accessible water bodies bring to communities, urging stakeholders to actively contribute to the consultation process.   The Criteria for New Sites The selection of new bathing water sites is a meticulous process, prioritizing locations with significant bathing activity and the necessary infrastructure, such as public toilets. The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) ensures that only sites meeting these stringent criteria progress to public consultation, ensuring that the new designations will serve the needs and safety of the public effectively. The sites being considered for designation are: Location County/Area Church Cliff Beach Lyme Regis, Dorset Coastguards Beach River Erme, Devon Coniston Boating Centre Coniston Water, Cumbria Coniston Brown Howe Coniston Water, Cumbria Littlehaven Beach Tyne and Wear Manningtree Beach Essex Monk Coniston Coniston Water, Cumbria River Avon at Fordingbridge Hampshire River Cam at Sheep’s Green Cambridge, Cambridgeshire River Dart Estuary at Dittisham Devon River Dart Estuary at Steamer Quay Totnes, Devon River Dart Estuary at Stoke Gabriel Devon River Dart Estuary at Warfleet Dartmouth, Devon River Frome at Farleigh Hungerford Somerset River Nidd at the Lido Leisure Park Knaresborough, North Yorkshire River Ribble at Edisford Bridge Lancashire River Severn at Ironbridge Shropshire River Severn at Shrewsbury Shropshire River Stour at Sudbury Suffolk River Teme at Ludlow Shropshire River Tone in French Weir Park Taunton, Somerset Wallingford Beach River Thames, Berkshire Derwent Water, Crow Park Keswick, Cumbria River Wharfe at Wetherby Riverside West Yorkshire Goring Beach Worthing, West Sussex Worthing Beach House Worthing, West Sussex Rottingdean Beach Rottingdean, East Sussex   Improvements and Accountability The initiative builds on recent advancements in water management and pollution control. Among these improvements are enhanced regulatory capacities, comprehensive monitoring of storm overflows, and significant investments in water infrastructure. These measures not only aim to reduce pollution but also to hold water companies accountable for environmental breaches, with the introduction of stricter penalties and a ban on executive bonuses for non-compliance.   Engagement and Action The consultation period presents a unique opportunity for the public to influence the selection and management of new bathing water sites. The stakeholders have until March 10 to share their insights actively, ensuring that the expansion of designated bathing areas aligns with community needs and environmental sustainability goals.
In Conclusion
The government's plan to roll out new bathing water sites is a testament to its dedication to environmental excellence and public health. By fostering community involvement and implementing rigorous quality standards, this initiative promises to not only enhance the UK's natural landscapes but also to strengthen the nation's commitment to a sustainable and healthy future.   Sources: THX News & Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs. Northern Rail's Vision for High-Speed Rail Connectivity in the Lake District
The Lake District, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and serene beauty, attracts millions of visitors each year. As part of efforts to enhance accessibility and promote sustainable transportation, Northern Rail has unveiled ambitious plans for a high-speed rail network connecting key destinations within the Lake District. This article delves into Northern Rail's vision for the future, focusing on the proposed routes between Oxenholme, Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere, and Keswick.
Enhancing Connectivity
Northern Rail recognizes the importance of improving connectivity within the Lake District to cater to the growing demand from tourists and locals alike. The proposed high-speed rail network aims to offer a convenient and efficient mode of transportation, reducing reliance on private vehicles and alleviating congestion in the region.
Oxenholme-Kendal-Windermere: The Central Spine
The central spine of the envisioned high-speed rail network will connect Oxenholme, Kendal, and Windermere. This route is crucial as it provides a seamless link between the Lake District and the West Coast Main Line, a major rail artery connecting London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Scotland.
The extension of high-speed rail services from Oxenholme to Kendal and Windermere would significantly improve accessibility to these popular destinations. It would reduce travel times, making day trips more feasible and encouraging visitors to explore the diverse offerings of the Lake District.
Windermere-Ambleside-Grasmere: Exploring the Heart of the Lake District
One of the major highlights of Northern Rail's plans is the proposed high-speed rail line linking Windermere, Ambleside, and Grasmere. This corridor, running through the heart of the Lake District, would offer passengers breathtaking views of stunning lakes, rolling hills, and charming villages.
This route would not only cater to tourists but also benefit residents and local businesses. Commuters traveling between these towns for work or leisure would enjoy faster and more reliable transportation, leading to increased economic opportunities and improved quality of life.
Grasmere-Keswick: Extending Connectivity to the North
The final segment of Northern Rail's high-speed rail proposal focuses on connecting Grasmere to Keswick. This route would provide a vital link to the northern region of the Lake District, unlocking its natural beauty and cultural treasures for a broader audience.
Keswick, with its rich history and proximity to the stunning Derwentwater, is a highly sought-after destination. The high-speed rail line would facilitate easier access for visitors, boosting tourism and local businesses in the area. Additionally, residents would benefit from improved transportation options, enhancing their connectivity to employment centers and leisure activities.
Benefits and Sustainability
Northern Rail's high-speed rail vision for the Lake District offers numerous benefits and contributes to the region's sustainability goals. By providing a viable alternative to private vehicles, the proposed network would help reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and improve air quality. Moreover, the faster travel times would encourage visitors to opt for public transportation, alleviating pressure on parking infrastructure and preserving the region's natural beauty.
Collaboration and Investment
Implementing a high-speed rail network requires substantial collaboration and investment. Northern Rail intends to work closely with local authorities, regional stakeholders, and the national government to bring this vision to life. Funding from various sources, such as private investors and government grants, will be crucial to realizing this transformative project.
Conclusion
Northern Rail's plans for a high-speed rail network in the Lake District represent an exciting opportunity to enhance connectivity, improve sustainability, and boost tourism in the region. By connecting key destinations like Oxenholme, Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere, and Keswick, the proposed network would create a seamless transportation experience for both locals and visitors. Through collaboration and investment, Northern Rail aims to make the vision of a high-speed rail network in the Lake District a reality, further cementing the region's status as a premier destination for leisure and exploration.

Praxton 3, The Proposal
Praxton 3 The Proposal Jennifer isn’t sure what to do of a proposal from an old boyfriend, living on a distant world.  To accept it would mean living on another world and wearing a collar.
Melange Books: http://www.melange-books.com/authors/nshoward/nshowardpraxton3.html
Amazon.com https://www.amazon.com/Proposal-Praxton-Book-3-ebook/dp/B004W8E8WC
Melvin Taylor crossed the living room and into the kitchen, yawning. He still needed to finish dressing, wearing only a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, but needed a coffee before he did much more to get ready for the day. Helena looked at him as he grunted, “Good morning,” and quickly moved to pour him a cup of coffee. “Good morning, Master Melvin. How are you today?” She gazed at him with a small smile. Unlike him, she was wide-awake and fully dressed in her black dress uniform. While her uniform wasn’t as revealing as most Praxton dresses, it was still short. In keeping with Praxton customs, she was also braless and wore high heels. Although she was employed as a housekeeper, her collar indicated she had Melvin as a guardian. Helena looked thirty by using therapy drugs, but she was almost twice that age and had decided she would rather do housekeeping duties than be a Master’s female. “Tired...” He realized the smile may be due to his lack of underwear and the partially open fly of Praxton style pants. He took the cup of coffee from her and looked at the kitchen table and chairs. He heard her give the slightest clearing of her throat and walked out to the dining room with his coffee to sit. Melvin was still learning how to act on Praxton and Helena gave him the hint he needed that the Master did not normally sit in the kitchen. When he became a Praxton citizen, he selected two females to live with him, believing they could take care of his home while he was away and provide companionship when he was home. He quickly learned it was more complicated than that. He followed the advice of his friends and hired a housekeeper who had taught him what he should and should not be doing as a Master. A minute later Helena brought him toast. “The females should be getting up soon, Master Melvin. Would you like me to set out some clothes for you to wear before they come downstairs?” Melvin gave a grin. “In other words, I better be suitably dressed before they see me.” “It is the Praxton way.” He nodded. “Thanks for your help.” He recalled some of her other advice that she had quietly given him over the past few months, and some of the more direct advice she had told him. “The females need discipline, Master Melvin. They must have boundaries and know there are consequences of not behaving.” Later she insisted he set up a discipline room, and though it was rarely used, it had stopped much of their poor behaviour. Helena had asked permission to administer discipline as she saw fit. After he granted her that additional responsibility, he saw a marked improvement in the household. He finished his toast, and after Helena refilled his coffee, headed upstairs to his room to get dressed, passing the glass-walled shower room for the females. He looked in and saw Celestia. The tall blonde was slowly massaging soap over her body. Melvin watched as she slowly turned to face him. She gave him a smile as the soap dripped off her medium-sized breasts. Melvin raised his eyebrows and continued on to his room. He sighed and wondered if leaving today was such a good idea after all. He opened the door to the master bedroom and saw Aatun sitting up in his bed, the bed covers concealing her to her knees. The brunette was shorter than Celestia, but still had a curvy body with slightly larger breasts. “Hi, Aatun.” “Good morning, Master Melvin.” “I guess I better let you get up.” He reached the foot of the bed and unlatched the chain to her ankle cuff holding her captive to the bed. “Thank you. I want to look good before you leave.” She gave him a kiss and walked slowly out of the room, her hips gently swaying. He looked at the door several seconds after she had left and began to get ready. Melvin had been born on Earth; was average in height but muscular, partly due to his work as a geologist. His friends nicknamed him Hairy Hercules. He walked to his bathroom and stood in front of the viewscreen, dragging a comb through his black hair. “Last shave for a few days.” He picked up the electric razor, mentally listing the things he had to do today, knowing he wouldn’t have a second chance to do things out in the Keswick region of Praxton. After he finished dressing he headed downstairs, satisfied he hadn’t forgotten anything. * * * * Melvin relaxed in the living room, checking the latest weather reports on his handheld when first Aatun, and then Celestia came to him after walking downstairs. Aatun was wearing a skirt and an open cloth vest. A chain dangled in the opening that Melvin surmised was attached to a pair of nipple jewellery. Celestia was wearing a dress made of a soft white material that made it obvious she was not wearing anything else. Both women wore a collar that matched their ankle and wrist cuffs, although Aatun left her black metal restraints unattached. Celestia wore blue faux-leather restraints, plus a waist chain where five gold chains went to each cuff and the collar. “Hello, Celestia, Aatun.” “Hello, Master Melvin,” they replied in unison. They approached him slowly and knelt in front of him. Melvin looked at them and then at Helena and raised his eyebrows. “I’m going to miss you two.”

How Storm water Affects Your Rivers
The metropolitan of Adelaide, South of Australia, have 4 Creeks that have relatively high flood risks. Brown Hill, Keswick, Glen Osmond, and Parklands Creek are important watercourses that were established to control flood events. The Creeks face danger from heavy floods with low standard flood protection offered. With the combined catchment, the management plans to reduce the number of affected properties by a 1- in a 100-year flood event, nearly 98 percent. Their combined catchment is contained within the local areas of Adelaide, Burnside, Mitcham, Unley, and West Torrens.
The flood mitigation plan in Brown Hill Keswick Creek hopes to deliver full-time jobs and yield more than $240 million in community benefits. They plan to achieve the community benefits by reducing flood impacts on Adelaide Airport, improving storm water quality, and minimizing economic disruption by floods.
Effects of storm water in the eco-system
The Adelaide metropolitan have rivers surrounding the land, providing a constant supply of clean water to its resident. The rivers depend on the watershed to replenish their supply of water. Altering these watersheds has significant impacts on the environment. One of the biggest changes is to alter how storm water soaks into the ground or how it flows into the river.
Poorly managed storm water exacerbates flooding, which becomes contaminated as it runs off through roads and pavements into the water streams. The state government of Australia agreed to fund 50 percent of the required work in the storm water management of Brown Hill Keswick Creek.
With urbanization, storm water has fewer pervious surfaces to soak in, leading to a significant altering of the natural flow of river patterns. When storm water cannot soak into the ground, it results in floods, increasing the speed with more impervious surfaces. This runoff flows into rivers and often overwhelms local sewage overflow. The effects of this sewage overflow on humans and the environment are tremendous. The sewage pollutes water with pathogens, heavy metals, and other toxins. Not only does it kill aqua life, but it also facilitates the blooming of algal that suffocates fisheries.
If Brown Hill Keswick Creek storm water is well managed, they will be able to preserve the natural feature of South Australia. The water cycle is slowed by precipitation rather than flowing directly into the sewers and rivers.
Long term perks of the mitigation plan
Using permeable paving, installing narrower streets, and disconnecting impervious surfaces with rain barrels are some of the methods that Brown Hill Keswick Creek uses to manage their storm water. The storm water management plan ensures that it safeguards the properties across the catchment areas. The Storm water management plan wants to see to it that;

Hanley Trip
In practice for the Keswick trip, we took a trip up to Hanley centre to find and interview contributors and practice our quick ideas creation kills we had just learnt. However we had only taken the sound equipment and stills camera to practice with as this wasn’t crucial.
Despite this , this trip was extremely beneficial and allowed us to define who has what strengths and what weaknesses within the crew. Me definitely having had to improve on my confidence when talking to strangers and having more of a strength in the idea development. This doesn't mean to avoid these but instead work on this more which i definitely tried to do in Keswick. I definitely could have tried more by interviewing the contributor or initiating convos however i eased in at least by bringing things up and directing him for shots.
