It honestly surprised me that "goth is primarily about the music and you arent really goth if you dont engage with the music/music scene" is seen as mean and gatekeepy by some people. cuz like. when I was feeling intimidated and insecure abt being new to the genre and heard goths saying that, I was honestly really relieved!

Like yeah the fashion is obvs a part of the subculture but i found it comforting to know you don't have to prove yourself by always looking the part; that stuff is for fun. (Plus most goths I've met have been super sweet and happy to share music recs with newcomers)
