KS: Seeing as how others are showing off their OCs (and also because Mod edi approves of the fic I’m working on about them), here’s Valyhra Lavellan and Ilmanith Adaar! In an unlikely AU where they both survive the conclave and neither of them end up with their LI, the Inquisition hires the Valo-Kas mercenaries, and they send Ilmanith to handle some of the logistics of the arrangement. Sounds a bit boring to start, but it gets steamier from there lol

just some quick notes about her:

Ilmanith’s appearance was very much inspired by the DA2 Qunari models, because that art style just stuck with me, so I gave her a fairly squared face with bold features to try to reflect that. (a strong brow-line, aquiline nose, wide-set jaw and defined cheekbones, and of course long luxurious hair!)

She’s a 52 year old mercenary, and has a fairly rugged complexion with more than a few scars to commemorate all the times she hasn’t died so far.

Also tried to make her appearance a little more lore-friendly; codex entries say that qunari have “strange eyes”, so I installed the Black Scleras mod. Used Enhanced Character Creator to make her hair a little more shiny and “metallic”. Idk if there’s any lore to support that but I just felt Qunari should have shiny hair :)

Though she is Vashoth and never knew life under the Qun, Ilmanith does have a preference for Qunari fashion choices. The outfit shown here in particular makes use of pieces from her mother’s old armour, who had been a Saarebas before fleeing Qunari lands with Ilmanith’s father. (it’s actually just a variation of Hissera’s armour from DAI Multiplayer but sshhhh!)

Just based on the skills I chose for her in DAI, I feel like Ilmanith must be a little bit terrifying to face off against in combat.

Like, you see this very tall, very overt, buff qunari with big horns and dark eyes, she’s built like a brick shit house, with flowing red hair that makes her stand out even more in a crowd. You would sooner pin her for a warrior than a rogue, and it looks like she’s probably quite strong but not very agile, so you think maybe you can out-maneuver her.

But the next thing you know she’s whipped out her bow and arrows and is doing fucking leaps and bounds through the air, making ridiculous trick shots. one of your men just took a dagger to the face, where did it even come from? a glass flask full of oil just fell at your feet, by the time you notice, there’s already a flaming arrow flying towards the ground beneath you.

#i tricked her out with the Assassin specialization and pretty much maxed out the Archery skill tree for her when I was playing her save #it was insanely fun. I'm kind of missing her while playing as a mage. you just kind of #stand there casting your little lightning bolts and it's not nearly as engaging as i remember #plus I've been watching Hawkeye and it's reminding me a lot of Ilmanith's fighting style ngl #ilmanith adaar #ruby's ocs

So anyway, I’ve been putting off this part of the game for literally months because even though I planned on doing this in advance, I actually got really attached to Reuben way more than I had thought I would and now I am sad :(

On the bright side though, I figured out a new text effect in my editing program

I don't know if the Bi Solas mod installed incorrectly or what, but the Adaar romance I saw on YouTube is not what I ended up with??

He's supposed to go into the speech about Qunari being "savage creatures" whose violent nature "is only held in check by the rigid teachings of the Qun" before going into the romance dialogue, but instead what I got was more like-

Solas, squinting up at Ilmanith: hmm, pointed ears. Face is sometimes painted with weird patterns... Ah of course, she must be Dalish!

Like?? idk it was not what I was expecting because the whole plot point I was working towards in my head was to have Ilmanith feel rightfully insulted by such a crass remark and break things off with him

Eh, I guess I'll fix it in headcanon then

oof nevermind, it turns out that the hair mods I’ve been using are actually working just fine, but for some reason the game decided to reset my graphics settings to a lower setting.

They show up in-game just fine now, but apparently on lower settings, hair mods only work in cutscenes. Weird, don’t know why that suddenly happened,or if maybe my brother tweaked some settings or something, but anyway the point I was trying to make is that Ilmanith has her flowing hair back again. so, yay!

Cool, so for whatever reason one of the hair mods I was using for DAI just spontaneously decided “eh screw you” and stopped working so now Ilmanith has a mohawk. I don’t hate it but it’s a really jarring difference

#like I do headcanon that she was going to cut her hair short later on just not YET ugh #I don't feel like reinstalling everything so fuck it I'll just let her keep it it's fine #but still what the fuck?
