Sorry idk if this is FAQ question or sorts but i adore ur animatics genuinely they’re some of my fav pieces of dsmp content especially your ‘Nobody’ and ‘I’m alive (reprise)’ animatics and i adore how fluid and lively ur animatics are !!! if this is isn’t any bother do u have any advice for basic scripting / planning of animatics, i currently have a storyboard but i’m struggling to get it onto digital lmao, but overall how do u plan and plot ur animatics ?

And for scripting animatics.. hmm let me see if I can explain this right

So the way I plan out animatics is by first picking the main focus of what I want to tell a story about. Since animatics are basically telling little stories yknow? Usually once I pick a song I want to animate that main focus is pretty easy to figure out. So like Nobody is about Tommy’s hardships in exile and how it still affects him, I’m Alive Reprise is about Dream being out and all evil again, She Used To Be Mine is about Tommy mourning his past self. You pick a main focus and keep it in mind when planning scenes out so you know what to keep and what to cut.

And since animatics are like little stories they usually have a beginning, middle and end. So like how does it start? What are the characters doing/ what are they feeling? What happens/ happened to them? What are they doing/ feeling in the end?

This is where the song comes into play! (Of course this is for if you’re using a song with lyrics) Drawing a scene around each bit of lyrics works but also don’t be afraid to not take it too literally, if that makes any sense. So back to the Nobody animatic:

Tender as a bruise - Tommy pulls his hand away from his bleeding nose

Sharper than a razor - Dream lifts his sword

Wrap her tentacles around me like she’ll never let me go - Dream wraps an arm around Tommy’s shoulder before lightly stabbing him

But also I don’t always follow this rule since right after it’s:

Fury shakes the rafters - blood drips

But never in my favor - Side profile of Tommy, dazed after getting hit

I’m trembling in the eye of the only storm I’ve ever known - Tommy looking up at Dream before he drops tnt in the hole infront of them
