Reworked my FFX oc I've had for years and years and years, merging a ton of different concepts for her (many of which I remember but no longer have so aren't shown) into one outfit to span both games and pre-FFX.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bio: her name is Chiru which (per Google) is Okinawan for crane and Japanese for to fall or scatter(like petals or leaves).
She was a Warrior Monk who secretly studied summoning under Braska and served as another Guardian. They were planning on doing a secret double Summoner pilgrimage, to wombo combo Sin in hopes that it wouldn't come back. But when they finally realize the true cost , Braska doesn't allow it, sensing she was too scarred by the revelation and had lost her nerve. He knew she wouldn't be able to go through with having Auron, who she loved, be her Final Aeon.
Afterward she and Auron confront Yunalesca, Auron is mortally wounded and she's unable to heal him because she's also on the verge of death. She collapses alongside him at the foot of Gagazet and is functionally comatose. Unconscious and barely alive she doesn't trigger Sin's kill programming, so he's able to bring her along to Dream Zanarkand.
After an arduous recovery, she spends the ten years there helping look after Tidus and suffers from immense guilt over being the only real survivor of her friends. She later spends FFX knowing that this pilgrimage will finally take away the last of them, and she'll, as she believes, deservedly be alone for good.
She is originally self assured and teasing, Rinoa-esque, and hyper competent, but the events of Braska’s pilgrimage break her. Her confidence proves to have been ignorance. Her measure taken and found lacking. But just like Auron, her oaths to Braska and Jecht mean something even if she believes she is unworthy of them and carries on regardless. She becomes reserved, calm, kind but profoundly mournful, and underestimates her capacity to do and be good.
Many years after the events of FFX-2, when she is sure Yuna and Tidus no longer need her, she finds purpose in using the skills Braska taught her to Send the wayward spirits still wandering Zanarkand. By the end of her life the city is absent any shades or fiends and the ruins lie silent.
Weapon: She was a ‘red mage’. The orbs hovering around her sword change size based on which swappable ‘strike’ ability she’s using and each attack is followed by an -a or lower spell of the same element. Her canon weapon would have the default ice, water, thunder, fire but later weapons could have status effects instead.
She once could summon but her trauma has taken that from her. She is however inordinately good at communing with pyreflies and this is very skilled at performing the Sending.

can you speak about dona's relationship with yevon? how devout would you say she was? how hard was it for her to let go?
Ooo okay, y'know what, I've actually been wanting to touch on this for a while. Ever since I finished watching/listening to State of the Arc's podcast of Final Fantasy X, specifically when they mentioned on how open Dona's outfit is as a summoner compared to the others (I forget what part it is, I'm sorry, but the whole podcast is worth listening to), I've been trying to formulate how best to describe her relationship with Yevon.
Because all the other Summoners we see in X wear very traditional kimono-esque outfits, that cover pretty much their entire body. From Yuna to Isaaru to Belgemine to Ginnem to Zuke to Braska, even if they're not all kimono-esque, they're still very modest compared to Dona's. Heck, even the Warrior Monks were some semblance of Kimono or modest dress. I guess it signifies their devoution to Yevon and their willingness to committ themselves to the faith, and subsequently the pilgrimage, much in the same way a lot of followers of real world religions dress modestly. Nearly all of the clergy, the priests, and the priestesses we see in ffx and ffx-2 are dressed very modestly, like from ankle to knee, some from the chin downwards, with their hair covered. I'm not sure if there might've been a teaching or some sort of scripture in Yevon that asks this of their most devout, and I don't really want to speculate on it too much, but it wouldn't surprise me.
That being said, the only summoners (as far as I know) that don't dress this modestly are Yunalesca and Dona (edited to add Seymour into the mix here as well. His one isn't as loose as Dona's or Yunalesca's, but still fairly open in comparison). Yunalesca performed the final summoning and all that before Yevon was even a thing, so I can understand why she might not have the whole kimono-esque, modesty thing going on, but Dona? Dona was raised on an island with a temple, studied at the temple to become a summoner, presumably followed the teachings and the scriptures (to an extent) up until the end of X, attended classes at the temples, and all that jazz. So what's up?
This isn't to say she isn't devout in some respects, but the Dona we see at the start of X is a lot less devout than a few years prior. However, living on an island such as Kilika, a place that the main village is built on shallow water, has a tendancy to get destroyed or damaged by Sin quite frequently. Dona, as someone who has lived on said island her entire life, has witnessed a lot of death and destruction. Despite her constantly praying at the temple, all of the classes, nearly everyone around her doing the same, Dona had a crisis of faith. Where some people might seek more comfort in their religious practice after so much death and destruction, Dona went the opposite way. All this death, all this destruction, all this pain and suffering and the threat of losing her home over and over again, culminating in the teachings, the scriptures, Yevon itself as a belief system, bringing her less and less comfort as the years went on.
She still trained as a summoner, she still wanted Sin gone, she hated seeing people suffer, losing their loved ones, losing their homes, losing everything, regardless of if they were from Kilika or not. That's why she continued her training, regardless of if her faith was placed in the religon or not. Her decision was for the people, not because of Yevon itself told her too.
All this isn't to say that she isn't devout, to an extent, to the teachings of Yevon. In her own way, she very much is, she helps with sendings, she follows the teachings, but a lot of it is very surface level. She isn't terribly swayed by the teachings, or doesn't take what the priests say to heart too much, she doesn't seem to care that chucking Tidus into the Cloister of Trails in Kilika could land her in as much trouble with Yevon as much as it would Yuna and Co. She has an underlying disinterest, maybe bordering on a lack of conviction, in the teachings by this point. She follows the teachings only because that's what's expected of her as a summoner. She shows herself praying at the temples, liasing with the priests, performing sendings where appropriate, because that's what summoners are expected to do. If anything, she does the bare minimum, that's as far as her faith goes.
She never says outright this however, Dona's not an idiot. She's heard of Braska before he went and killed Sin to become a martyr. She knows her path could easily follow Braska's if she came out and said that, as a summoner, she doesn't truly believe in the teachings much anymore, that that aspect of her being a summoner is mostly performative. She knows that if she came out and said these things and didn't defeat Sin like Braska did, she'd be shunned by the church. Dona's not an idiot, she knows when to keep her mouth shut.
And that's why her robes/kimono-esque/summoner clothing is so open compared to the other summoners we see. Because she feels a lot less tied to the religion than the other summoners. And so, I suppose, when she sees Yevon crumble, it wasn't terribly hard for her to outwardly let go. By the time Yevon crumbles, her attachment to it as a system is like sand falling through her fingers. She wasn't entirely surprised in learning that Yevon was so corrupt, but considering how performative her faith was and looking back on all the evidence, it all made sense.
All the same, it took her a few months to truly accept it, to truly process it all, as I'm sure it would for anybody else, regardless of if they were overly religious or not. The fact that she no longer had any ties to the Fayth and the Aeons didn't help matters, and possibly muddied the waters futher. Yet, despite her feelings by the start of X, Yevon and it's teachings had provided her with some level of comfort growing up. The temples and their incense, the praying at the statues, the praying to the Fayth, the calming voices of the priests and priestesses in times of strife, it all provided her with some comfort when times were hard, when Sin had swept through the village and destroyed parts, when she lost friends and family in Sin's wake.
Yevon's destruction did shake her, but it was the loss of that level of comfort that struck her more. She was able to shake off Yevon, the corrupt parts of it, the prospect of damnation if she didn't follow every little teaching to a fault, silencing any and all that disagreed with Yevon with brute force, the hypocrisy, without too much of a second though. If her faith was a lot stronger, she might've had a harder job of it, but she didn't. We see in X-2, she is very happy to barge her way through the priests and tell them to shut the fuck up, I think by that point, she's truly shaken off Yevon as a while. There wasn't much to shake off, but any devoution she had left is gone by X-2.

i had some thoughts about this kinda idea before but it came to me again last night — i often think about how hard life gets for yuna after she becomes high summoner. living in spira as a popular religious figure just intensifies the process of trying to live your days with trauma you cannot ever fully process + forming bonds that are meaningful / do not feel false because even in x-2 new yevon ( or the youth league ) tried to take advantage of that, for example ( seeking her as approval to gain spira's general appreciation, trying an arranged marriage between the high summoner + the praetor and whatnot ). everyone would want the approval of the high summoner, and thus it becomes basically impossible for yuna to do things that go under the radar. i think people in spira need a long time to learn what it is like to live life without sin, and so falling into the old habits is very effective, especially when they've been perpetuated for decades. i have this idea that they would easily try to see meaning behind anything yuna were to do, because of her influential status as a) braska's daughter, b) a high summoner, c) the only living high summoner, and the list could go on with other features such as two times saviour, seymour's widow possibly having some influence on it as well for the most old yevonites / guados? all of that has meaning in front of the eyes of the believers — i mean, all of spira, really.
my thought is that yuna is not naive the way she was, and now knows the way of her world, and especially knows that everyone is selfish in their own pursuits to some degree. so i've mentioned before how over time she tends to close in itself and as a result not speak much anymore / freely as she once did, part of the reason i would say is because she knows she needs to weight her words now; she would freely express herself in her entirety before, when she knew her life had a deadline and that her words would be used perhaps to do good once she was gone, but now that she's the first of a long series of sacrificial high summoners she does not know who to look back to for an example to follow, and she is setting in stone the end of all summoners who were seen as so high, and she the highest of them all.
i think another expression of that is also her inability to form meaningful new bonds. she's hyper aware of her surroundings and she does not trust anything she's being told / people she meets anymore. she's very attached to the past, but that too brings about too much unresolved trauma that ends up making her more stoic as time passes. she decides to take after her father and what people told her he was like — ultimately, at heart she will always be the same yuna, but time has consumed all her energy, and distanced herself from the one that would blindly see the good in the world. there is evil in the shadows and she knows she must put an end to all of it, which is also the reason why her body and mind seem to give in as years go by: her biggest fault is taking everything as her own responsibility. high summoners were always seen as saviors, as problem solvers, the shields of spira even literally, and now her internalized issue is that she thinks everything that may cause distress is hers to fix and solve. it's the main streamlined idea as to why i think she suffers the farpane's instability, even though realistically she cannot do anything about it. she knows that only the guado have the tools to maintain it, and yet she feels this need to take it upon herself to "fix" it.
she has shown savior complex a lot of times before, even in canon ( i think x-2 is the prime example. it's presented as a plotline with yuna being "selfish" and trying to live her life in spite of her past, but if you have played through it you know that in the end it's just her going place to place to fix things, taking things upon herself she does not need to — i mean, vegnagun itself was not something that she should have tasked herself with, even knowing that the crimson squad / new yevon / the youth league was on it way before her she still pursues it, and many more examples in the entirety of the plot honestly ) and i have reason to believe it is so internalized that it seems almost impossible to put a bandaid to it, which is why she takes onto the life long task of studying all of via infinito ( + all the hidden things beneath bevelle and possibly beneath zanarkand ruins tbh, there's no way the same isn't there ) when, truly, her role as spira's savior should have ended long ago.

Dissidia Opera Omnia : Force Weapon partner connection (PART 1/?)
Tumblr media
Japanese version has entered the new era with LV 300 of SHINRYU difficulty and the release of ☆7 weapon called Force Weapon (FR)
Force system has a similiar concept with Band attack from Final Fantasy IV : The After Years which is a combination attack between two characters. (Band attack has more than two characters though)
The unique part is each FR pair has a connection or similiar backgrond between characters but restricted to character from different game so you won't see a pair from same game like Tidus and Jecht or Cloud and Zack as FR attack.
Looking at the combination so far, i've concluded how dev choose their partner.
Story wise, both have similiar background on their own game.
Their interaction in Opera Omnia, Original Dissidia, Duodecim or NT.
Gameplay wise, they have a same or similiar job and ability.
I'm sure not everyone understand why A is B's FR partner because not everyone play every single Final Fantasy games. Even they played, not everyone remember everything in the game.
-------------------------------------
PART 1 compiled the FRs up until Tidus FR released in November 2021. The one with bold purple is FR user and the black one is the partner.
Just click on "fr partner" tags if you want to see the full list.
-------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Kain - Aranea (Cross Jump) : Highwind dragoon. They were in enemy side but became your ally.
Kain permanently became your ally after he is totally free from mind control despite his numerous betrayal 😂.
Aranea while she worked for Niflheim Empire, likes to hangout with the bros and after quitting the army, she became good friend with them and worked together to slay the daemons.
Tumblr media
Krile - Relm (Retribution on Three) : Granddaughter duo who loves their grandpa and possess unique ability.
Krile is Galuf's granddaughter and can talk with animals. Relm is Strago's adoptive granddaughter and being the descendant of Magi, channels her magic by Sketching.
(Yeah, it's obviously the granddaughter duo.)
Tumblr media
Braska - Amidatelion (Mixture Power) : The summoner who sacrifice their life.
Amidatelion sacrificed her life to save Layle from Jegran while Braska sacrifice his life to save Spira.
I've seen a lot of complain with Braska summoning Valefor is dev getting lazy and reuse Yuna's Valefor animation for him. He should summon Bahamut because Amida summoned it and Braska originated from Bevelle, the home of Bahamut's Aeon.
Tumblr media
Kam'lanaut - Seifer (Djinn Blade) : Both are arrogant, have a dream and a "tool" of the main antagonist but casted aside when they failed.
Kam'lanaut and Eald'narche desires to open the Gate of The Gods. When the adventurer (the player) defeated him in Delkfutt's tower, Eald'narche casted him aside.
Seifer dreamed to become Sorceress's Knight and became Ultimecia's Knight but she casted him aside after his numerous failure.
Tumblr media
Desch - Leila (Electric Order) : Temporary party member, wearing purple outfit and use Thunder attack.
(Desch was a guest party member while Leila was playable.)
Tumblr media
Tidus - Ceodore (Saintly Shot) : Interaction in Arc 3 Chapter 1. Their father once possessed by the enemy and have to live up to the expectations people set for their parent's achievement.
Cecil was possessed by Mysterious Girl in The After Years and Jecht was possessed by Yu Yevon to become Sin.
Ceodore has no confidence with himself caused by 'burden' of his bloodlines and people around expected him to follow his father's footsteps as Paladin.
Tidus is Jecht's son and his father was known as the legendary Blitzball player. People are expecting him to be like or surpassing his father even one of the supporters called him "Jecht junior."
Long story short, daddy issues😅
