Was actually close to tears a few minutes ago thinking about the helicarrier scene in TWS so now I need to talk about it. When Steve orders the helicarriers to be destroyed when he’s still on board, he is 100% expecting that he is not gonna make it out of there but he knows without a doubt that he would rather die than leave Bucky behind again, even if Bucky has no idea who he is and is actively trying to kill him. Steve blames himself for Bucky having died the first time and for what happened to him after, and even if he doesn’t realistically believe that there’s a way for either of them to get out of that situation he’d rather they go down together this time than keep living with that guilt (and also living without Bucky). But then, even though he probably doesn’t think there’s a way out, he still can’t help but try to get Bucky back. He frees Bucky because he can’t bear to hear him in pain and drops the shield because he would literally rather be beaten to death than hurt Bucky anymore than he already feels he has. That is literally the most gut-wrenching romantic shit I have ever seen, how do people not realize that they are in love???
