reblogging a post saying that you need him to die though? um. maybe just a tiny bit unnecessary?

Quite a few of Auburn’s top targets narrowed their list of suitors down last week.
Last week was a busy week for edit makers. A number of Auburn’s top targets announced top lists of varying sizes. With no end in sight for the current dead period, top prospects from around the country are attempting to limit their number of suitors in an effort to reduce the amount of calls, texts, Facetimes, Zooms, Twitter DMs and any other method of electronic communication being used today by recruiting departments. Luckily for Auburn, its named showed up quite a bit on these lists last week.
Top List Recap
When discussing Auburn’s top Buck targets I have mostly written about 4-star Jeremiah Williams and 4-star Dylan Brooks. The two instate pass rushers are and continue to be top targets for the Tigers but there’s another name to keep a close eye on moving forward.
4-star Keanu Koht was reportedly close to announcing a commitment to LSU before electing to delay that decision. That has reopened the door for a number of top schools including Auburn.
BREAKING: Vero Beach (Fla.) 2021 DE Keanu Koht (@KeanuKoht) reveals his Top 4 schools: #Auburn #Florida #LSU & #Oregon: @VBFootball @VBHSNation @Keith247Sports @Blake_Alderman @BillyEmbody @Sheadixon @KwadeSays @MattPrehm. Story via @JonSantucci https://t.co/QSaWOHpG7R
— HSSportsFlorida (@HSSportsFL) June 4, 2020
Coming off a productive junior campaign, Koht has become a top pass rushing target for many top programs. I am unsure if he’s made it to Auburn’s campus in the past but in today’s wild world of recruiting that doesn’t seem to matter all that much. LSU is likely still the team to beat but Auburn should continue to be a factor moving forward. It sounds like Koht wants to wait to take some official visits before making a decision.
Jeremiah Williams though remains Auburn’s top Buck target and he also announced a top group last week.
“ I ᔕᗯᗴᗩ TO ᘜOᗪ Iᗰ ᗩ ᘜOᗪ ᔕᑭᗴᒪᒪᗴᗪ ᗷᗩᑕKᗯᗩᖇᗪᔕ ” FINAL 6️⃣ - @Hayesfawcett3 pic.twitter.com/s4eTXhazHf
— ℎ “ “ (@officiallscoob) June 5, 2020
Auburn joined Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma in his final 6. This is still likely an instate battle between the Tigers and Tide with both sides feeling confident in their chances. There had been some buzz that Williams could have a decision this summer but he told 247sports’s Steve Wiltfong that he will announce on Early Signing Day in December after taking his official visits. I think Auburn is the team to beat heading into the fall.
Most of the focus on Auburn’s linebacker recruiting has understandably been on 5-star Smael Mondon. But he’s not the only 5-star Travis Williams is after.
Top ! Edit: @Hayesfawcett3 pic.twitter.com/YNUJyWkkjA
— Xavian Sorey Jr (@Sorey_Jr) June 6, 2020
5-star Xavian Sorey announced an all SEC top 5 of Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and LSU last week. It feels like Auburn is sitting 4th at best on this list but there’s still time to make a push. After last year’s loaded linebacker class and only two seniors on the roster this year, Auburn might only take one backer this year so T-WILL is swinging for the fences.
Probably the most interesting list from last week belonged to 4-star TE Michael Trigg.
pic.twitter.com/fKmGttwfOh
— Trigg (@mtrigg_23) June 7, 2020
There’s a team suspiciously absent from that graphic. Florida State had been viewed as the top team for the nation’s 5th ranked tight end. But he reportedly reacted negatively to last week’s drama between FSU’s star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson and head coach Mike Norvell. Despite their absence, I would still view FSU as a threat as I suspect any concerns about that incident will quickly be remedied in the near future by the Noles staff.
But Auburn might currently be the team to beat in this race. He named Auburn and LSU as the two programs that stood out. Considering Auburn is the favorite to land 3-star Landen King, would they seriously take ANOTHER tight end? They would if that tight end is someone as talented as Trigg. He’s one of the best athletes in this class and if he wants onboard, you take him.
Finally, a wide receiver target I haven’t written much about announced a top 10 last week that included Auburn. 4-star Deion Colzie is the top WR in the state of GA and is apparently considering the Tigers.
Top 10 Thank you lord for putting me in this position... pic.twitter.com/50SyMQi1Ex
— Deion Colzie (@almightydeion_) June 7, 2020
Colzie is a former Notre Dame commit who seems to be trending to the Dawgs. I am not sure how strongly Auburn is being considered by Colzie. The consensus appears to be he’s an UGA lock but if he Auburn can host him on an official visit this fall maybe they can make things interesting.
WR Target Decommits
Unsurprisingly, Dematrius Davis’s buddy and former fellow Virginia Tech commit 3-star Latrell Neville backed off his Hokie pledge this weekend.
❤️.. pic.twitter.com/nZBXg5TeRK
— S E V E N (@LatrellNeville7) June 6, 2020
A month or so ago it looked like Auburn had a good shot to flip both Davis and Neville. However, it seems unlikely at this point Neville lands in the class. The Tigers like him but with limited spots at WR and possibly trending towards landing 4-star Christian Leary, I am not sure Auburn would accept his pledge at this time. Now that could change at any moment, especially if Neville were to have a strong senior campaign. Nebraska looks to be the team currently trending.
Linebacker Target Sets Commit Date
Auburn is chasing some pretty big fish at linebacker this cycle in Smael Mondon, Xavian Sorey and Barrett Carter. Another name to monitor is 4-star Jamon Dumas-Johnson. The Tigers only offered in March but immediately became a factor. Over the weekend, Johnson announced via Twitter he plans to commit next month.
Committing on July 8 STAY TUNED ‼️
— Jamon DJ (@ONLY1JAMON) June 7, 2020
I am unsure where Johnson is on Auburn’s board and where Auburn might be on his list. Maryland and Florida look to be the likely two leaders but the Tigers are a darkhorse to pay attention to especially if they were to miss out on Mondon this month. Right now there are zero Crystal Ball picks or Future Cast predictions for the Maryland native so things appear pretty wide open for the nation’s 14th ranked OLB.

Auburn is hoping to keep the backend of its defense loaded with NFL calibre talent.
Over the next 2 weeks 2-3ish indeterminate number of weeks, we will be taking a position by position look at the top targets on Auburn’s 2021 board. This is a first pass at who might be looking at Auburn the hardest this early in the cycle and whom Auburn might have the most interest in. However, recruiting is fluid and these lists will likely change.
For the past 2 seasons, the very back of Auburn’s defense has been lead by the tandem of Daniel Thomas and Jeremiah Dinson. After their very productive careers, they are off to the NFL to make some well deserved money. The baton has been passed to Smoke Monday and Jamien Sherwood but behind those two are a lot of question marks. The Tigers signed one of the hardest hitting safeties in the 2020 class in Chris Thompson Jr and there are rumors that Matthew Hill will be switching to the defensive side of the ball next season. But even considering those two, it’s pretty clear that there is playing time to be had on the Plains at safety in the very near future. Here’s a look at who could be next in line for the Tigers.
4* Kamren Kinchens | 5’11” | 190 lbs | Miami, FL
Recruitment
As of today, Kinchens might be the most likely name (other than Auburn’s current commit) to sign with the Tigers come signing day. The Northwestern High School standout recently dropped a top 5 of Auburn, LSU, Miami, Nebraska and Texas A&M. He was on campus in early March just before the shutdown and is reportedly close friends with AU safety commit Phillip O’Brien Jr. There is still work to be done in this race but I like where Auburn sits at the moment.
Scouting Report
How do you snag 10 interceptions in a season? Well if you are Kinchens, it’s due to a combination of outstanding instincts and great ball skills (plus some absolutely terrible passes). Kinchens excels at reading a QB’s eyes, breaking on the ball and coming down with the big play. He’s a kid that has a chance to step on campus and immediately make an impact.
3* MJ Daniels | 6’3” | 185 lbs | Lucedale, MS | Ole Miss Commit
Recruitment
With Marcus Woodson gone, Auburn might not be able to necessarily replicate the same level of success in Mississippi as they have the last 2 cycles but they are likely to still chase the top end talent in that state. One such talent is long time Ole Miss commit MJ Daniels. Auburn offered in late April so they have only recently become a factor in his recruitment but it sounds like there’s a good chance the Tigers could get an official visit. The instate Bulldogs are pushing hard for a flip and unsurprisingly with Woodson now running the secondary in Tallahassee, the Noles are expected to be a factor as well.
Scouting Report
Daniels is a big kid who plays corner for his HS team but will likely transition to safety at the next level. While not necessarily a burner, he’s got great speed given his size. He’s a very fluid athlete who shows great ability to play both off man and zone coverage at a high level. I think he’s pretty underrated at the moment and wouldn’t be surprised to see his stock continue to rise in the coming months.
3* Kyndrich Breedlove | 5’10” | 165 lbs | Nashville, TN
Recruitment
Auburn has had some success recently stealing talent from the Volunteer State. Last cycle, they devastated the Vols by snatching 4* DL Jay Hardy. Last month, they surprised Tennessee and other when they landed 3* OT J’Marion Gooch. Auburn is hoping to continue that success with Breedlove. The Nashville native dropped a top 5 of Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M in late April. This could end up being another Vols/Tigers battle in the end.
Scouting Report
Breedlove is a speedster with a knack for making the big play. He’s versatile enough that it wouldn’t be a surprise if he got a look at corner or nickel at the next level. He’s not the biggest kid but has some good length and great athleticism. That offer list is no joke and neither is that top 5 list. He strikes me as the type of DB prospect Auburn has had some good success with in recent years, relatively underrated kids with great speed and versatility.
3* Phillip O’Brien Jr | 6’0” | 170 lbs | Deerfield Beach, FL
Recruitment
O’Brien’s commitment came as a pretty big surprise following his Junior Day visit. It was believed he was a virtual lock to the Noles with there being five Crystal Ball predictions logged for FSU before his pledge. However, he was on FSU’s campus the next day and gave indications he was still open to being recruited. Throw in Marcus Woodson moving down there as well and it’s Auburn will likely have to fight to keep his pledge but from all indications as of today, he seems solid to the Tigers.
Scouting Report
I am a big fan of O’Brien’s tape. Kid has great speed as shown by that incredible rundown in his highlights. He’s also not afraid to lower the boom in the run game and displays outstanding ball skills down the field. He’s versatile enough that he could play really anywhere in the secondary but apparently McGriff has made it clear that he sees O’Brien and Kinchens as the safeties in this class.
3* Jah’Von Grigsby | 5’10” | 185 lbs | Baton Rouge, LA
Recruitment
Auburn’s offer in late March was a game changer for the Louisiana native. He even told Rivals.com that he almost committed on the spot. Since then a number of other programs have jumped into the mix including Michigan State and Kansas who appear to be the two top contenders for his pledge. It’s hard to know at this stage where he sits on Auburn’s board but he’s definitely a name to watch in the coming months.
Scouting Report
It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that Auburn is recruiting Grigsby to play the Nickel position in their defense. He’s got a good combination of size, physicality and speed to fit there in Steele’s scheme. A hard hitter, Grigsby thrives off contact yet still has the ball skills to be effective in coverage.
Brandon Perry | 5’10” | 180 lbs | Union Springs, AL
Recruitment
This is an odd recruitment. Perry announced last August he was committing to Auburn. In fact, that tweet is still pinned on his profile. Yet Auburn does not consider him a commit at this time because he didn’t get the green light before going public. He’s not listed on any recruiting site as a current Auburn commit. There’s also been nothing reported on him since. I suspect he’s a kid that could have used a camp to show the coaches he’s pledge should be accepted but unfortunately that won’t happen. It will be very interesting to see how this recruitment plays out.
Scouting Report
I couldn’t find any of his junior tape but you can get a feel for his talent based off his sophomore year. Perry is a two way player for Bullock County who does a little of everything from catching bombs at WR to rushing the passer off the edge. His versatility would make him an ideal Nickel back in Steele’s system though he could also fit in at strong safety.

One week to signing day and the Tigers are hoping to finish strong but will have to win some fierce battles to do so in the coming days.
Last week, I took a stab at where things might stand for Auburn’s top targets. We are now a week away for National Signing Day and another weekend of official visits are in the book so time to take another look at those predictions and confidence percentages. The picture is starting to become a little more clear but there are still plenty of different scenarios that could play out for the Tigers over these final days of the 2019 cycle.
5* WR George Pickens | 6’4” | 190 lbs | Hoover, AL | Auburn Commit
Top Teams: Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Tennessee
I continue to feel good about Auburn hanging onto their top ranked commit. Pickens was in Coral Gables this past weekend and will either visit Tennessee or Florida for his final official visit. There are a lot of suitors but no clear #2 school at the moment. That typically bodes well for the #1 team.
Prediction: Auburn (90%)
4* DL Charles Moore | 6’4” | 268 lbs | Louisville, MS
Top Teams: Auburn, Florida, LSU
I dropped my confidence by 5% and added LSU as a team to watch in this recruitment. Moore visited Florida State over the weekend and as he’s prone to due, raved about what he saw. The Bayou Bengals get the last shot at the talented defensive lineman before he makes his final decision. LSU almost flipped Moore from Mississippi State earlier this year when Jaren Handy initially committed to them. I think you have to consider Ed O a serious threat in this race but I still think Auburn’s strong relationships win out.
Prediction: Auburn (50%)
4* RB Mark-Antony Richards | 6’1” | 195 lbs | West Palm Beach, FL
Top Teams: Auburn, Florida, Georgia
Maybe it’s what I ate last night but I’m actually feeling better about Auburn’s chances with Richards this morning. He took his final OV to Miami but it appears that was more out of respect for Manny Diaz than the Canes being a top contender. I’ve removed them from the top teams and although Richards claims Penn State is also being considered, I feel confident saying this a three horse race between Auburn, Florida and Georgia. Of those three schools no one has recruited Richards longer or has established stronger relationships than the Tigers. Gus Malzahn will visit the talented back today and will hopefully seal the deal.
Prediction: Auburn (70%)
4* CB Maurice Hampton | 6’0” | 205 lbs | Memphis, TN | LSU Commit
Top Teams: Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss
An interesting report came out from AuburnSports.com earlier this week saying that Hampton planned to take an unofficial visit to the Plains this weekend. That would obviously be huge news for the better looking Tigers. But Hampton’s dad then told 247 that his visits are done and they will focus on making a final decision before next Wednesday. That will obviously be not as huge news for the better looking Tigers. I think it’s still highly likely that Hampton sticks with his longtime pledge but if he does in fact take one more visit to Auburn’s campus then things could get interesting...
Prediction: LSU (80%)
4* DL Quashon Fuller | 6’4” | 270 lbs | Lehigh Acres, FL | Florida State Commit
Top Teams: Alabama, Florida, Florida State
Fuller released his top 3 schools last night and didn’t include Auburn. Barring a strong late push from the Tide, I think he sticks with his pledge to the Noles.
Prediction: Florida State (40%)
4* ATH John Rhys Plumlee | 6’1” | 185 lbs | Hattiesburg, MS
Top Teams: Auburn, Florida State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss
I still think it’s highly unlikely Plumlee picks the Tigers though Auburn is still hard after him. Gus Malzahn visited the talented athlete Monday. As of today, I’m not sure which Magnolia State school he picks but I think it will be one of them.
Prediction: Ole Miss (5%)
4* RB Jamious Griffin | 5’10” | 205 lbs | Rome, GA
Top Teams: Auburn, Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State
My confidence in Griffin picking Georgia Tech has steeply declined but not because of some strong, late Auburn push. It’s because a new contender has entered the arena. Florida State now expects to host the physical back out of Georgia this weekend on an official visit. I think there’s a strong chance they give him a lot to think about. For now, I will stick with my Yellow Jackets pick but don’t be surprised if Griffin is a Nole on signing day.
Prediction: Georgia Tech (5%)
3* DB Jammie Robinson | 5’11” | 200 lbs | Leesburg, GA
Top Teams: Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee
I’ve gone from 5% to 95% confident in Robinson signing with the Gamecocks. Why? Because after saying he was done with visits Robinson was rumored to be back in Columbia on an unofficial visit this past weekend. Since then, Crystal Ball picks have rolled in for South Carolina. Muschamp and T-Rob made Robinson a priority from day 1 and it looks likely to payoff.
Prediction: South Carolina (95%)
3* OT Wisdom Asaboro | 6’8” | 280 lbs | Matthews, NC
Top Teams: Auburn, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, Virginia
A new name has emerged to watch in the coming days. The Tigers are searching high and low for offensive tackle talent and may have found another gem in the Tar Heel State. Asaboro is a two way athlete originally from Nigeria with immense athletic ability but only limited experience playing football. Sound familiar? Well it turns out that according to AuburnUndercover’s Keith Niebuhr, Asaboro is good friends with Prince Tega Wanagho’s brother. Malzahn visited Asaboro this Monday to try and secure an official visit. There’s a chance his recruitment goes past signing day, which would be very good news for the Tigers. If he signs next Wednesday the Tar Heels will more than likely be the pick. If he waits and takes an official visit then you have to like Auburn’s chances. A story to definitely follow over the next week.
Prediction: North Carolina (25%)
3* DL Jamond Gordon | 6’4” | 268 lbs | Meridian, MS
Top Teams: Auburn, Ole Miss
It’s starting to look more and more likely that Gordon doesn’t end up at either Auburn or Ole Miss but instead JUCO. If he does sign next week then I think it’s very probable he’s a Rebel. Will they take him right now? I don’t know...
Prediction: Ole Miss (10%)
3* OG Kamaar Bell | 6’3” | 320 lbs | Moultrie, GA
Top Teams: Auburn, Florida State, Louisville
My big fear was Florida State would swoop in late and steal Bell away from the Tigers. There’s a very good chance that’s exactly what’s going to happen after his official visit to Tallahassee. Bell reportedly was blown away by his visit and left with the Tigers and Noles neck and neck. More concerning is the fact he’s considering returning for an unofficial visit this weekend. If that happens, then he’s gone. Gus Malzahn will attempt to slow FSU’s momentum with an in home visit this week. Can he outsell Taggart on need at offensive line?
Prediction: Auburn (15%)
3* DT LeDarrius Cox | 6’5 | 300 lbs | Mobile, AL | Tennessee Commit
Top Teams: Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee
Last week, I had Cox to Tennessee at 40% confidence. Now I’m picking Auburn with decent confidence. What changed? Well if I’m honest, it’s mostly from the fact that 247’s southeastern analyst John Garcia changed his CB on Cox to AU after reportedly speaking with some sources close to that recruitment. This flip has been hinted at for months now and appears might finally happen in the near future.
Prediction: Auburn (60%)
3* OT Ira Henry | 6’5” | 320 lbs | St. Louis, MO
Top Teams: Auburn, Florida, Florida State
Like Bell, Henry was on campus in Tallahassee this past weekend and the Noles made a strong impression. However, he didn’t seem to be as lavish with his praise as Bell though FSU is absolutely a threat. I think what might prove the big difference is FSU already has a JUCO OT on board while Auburn only has Osborne. I still think he picks the Tigers but this will be a fight to the finish. Henry plans to take an official visit to Indiana this weekend before making his final decision.
Prediction: Auburn (10%)
3* LB Octavius Brothers | 6’2 | 210 lbs | Southwest Brevard County, FL
Top Teams: Auburn, North Carolina
Brothers never made the trip down to Miami making this effectively a two team race between Auburn and North Carolina. There appears to be an enormous amount of confidence on the Plains that Brothers will pick the good guys next Wednesday.
Prediction: Auburn (95%)
