petition to stop using “found family” in reference to any piece of media that includes an ensemble cast

#angel.txt #this isn't meant to be negative nor is it motivated by anything big #i think i just saw a post the other day that was along the lines of ''i just love a ragtag group of misifts'' and i was like oh #a lot of things that i have seen grouped under ''found family'' have that sort of vibe #like there is... a Difference. between found family and friends and maybe even chosen family as well #like.. star wars rebels is found family. tales of arcadia is chosen family. the owl house is friends #and even when it comes to smth like tales of arcadia it depends on the characters? #like blinky as jim's dad is chosen family similar to how strickler as his eventual stepdad is chosen family #but something like douxie + jim + claire + steve is friendship #or even smth like merlin + douxie feels a lot more like a mimicry of familial structure combined with a mentor/student dynamic #than it does any sort of found or chosen family #not every group is ''found family'' #and i get its more of an all-encompassing trope name more than anything else but i also just. idk. think there should be a distinction #wow this got long lmao apparently i have Thoughts #i love all these tropes sm but i just. i simply wish they were given more distinction #bc lumping every kind of non-biological group dynamic into ''found family'' kinda dismisses each of their nuances and complexities #media analysis & critique #i think i rb'd a similar post awhile back with a bit of an aro lens? #idk lmao
