Today I wanted to share another Isla Paradiso festival CAS post. These are still from the collection that didn't make the final story shots. As mentioned in the post two weeks ago, only the "royal" descendants wear red and gold, so all of the other variations of the "elite" faction's outfits are green and gold.
The above pictures feature the Vidal family, with Valerie in the first shot, Sean in the next, and Joel taking up the rear. To be honest, I didn't know any of their first names until I googled them on the wiki, lol. There are a lot of IP sims I didn't really get to know, I think that has to do with not creating them myself. Conquer mostly got to know the sims I totally remade. The Vidal's were not one of those families, and only ended up in costumes because I was going to have the teens and young adults go to the festival party lot.
Anywho, save for the color, headpiece and length of Valerie's skirt her costume pretty much looks exactly like Carolina's. That's because the Vidal's once held a shared position with the Alto's just below the Ichtaca's amongst the colonizing families. They were the left and the right hand, so to speak. This position continued during the current Vidal's lifetimes in my head cannon until Valerie's husband died and the family's financial worth declined. This has resulted in a skirt shortening, a temporary demotion to foot, with the family's only saving grace being two son's one of which, as heir, Joel, is betrothed to the Alto's daughter.
Joel and Sean's costumes share the same skirt, arm bands, and feather waist beads. The difference in their tops mark their positions:
Joel's heir costume features a closed neck and solid shoulder pieces meant represent a set future towards power.
Sean's open front, medallion, soft shoulder pieces and waist veil suggest an undetermined path.
I feel like I forgot to say no one is wearing sandals because the party or ball would have been swimsuit themed for nonresident sims. Those whose costumes show up in the story had two versions of their outfits. One in swimwear, one in everyday with the latter category featuring footwear.

This author would like to apologize for her terrible photoshop skills in putting these together side by side. Very sorry… much photoshop! Getting better!
Now onto the fixes...
Bug Fixes Sims 4
Fixed an issue in which in the Gallery Preview pop-ups, Build Mode objects will now appear properly under the “Show Used Items” panel. Accuracy is the best policy… in this case.
We made some edits to some Career and School-related tooltips so they are consistent and clearer for Simmers.
The book cradleObject_GENBook is no longer visible to Simmers, it wasn't meant to be... it wasn't a pretty book. We didn't like doing it!
Some DEBUG pie menu options including some from Discover University and Snowy Escape were translated. We didn’t translate these, well since ever… as they were DEBUG and only accessible with a specific cheat, but we are working on them as we go now. Thanks for your reports and patience!
We discovered that Sims were becoming uncomfortable when Gathering Water… we didn’t really understand why, so we decided to have them not be uncomfortable. Let them feel how they want to feel, I say.
Ghost Sims will now appear as Ghosts in CAS. There were moments that they made us take a second look there, but nope, they are Ghosts and Ghosts they shall display as. I think I saw this as a plot for a movie… Ghosts… a machine, a dance… ANYWAY.
As always this editor and the Localization team made some adjustments and perfected some of the text in-game across all packs and previous updates. #getit
Get Together
Social Panel will no longer default to the incorrect tab. What tab was I on? Now I will always know.
City Living
Vegetarian Sims will no longer mistakenly eat non-vegetarian leftovers from the refrigerator. Not funny guys!
Fixed an issue that didn’t let the DigiRAD Keyboard make a sound when choosing Keyboard Auto Play.
Cats and Dogs
Listen, I think every species - well everyone, has the right to find love. But we did have to fix an issue with Female Cats going into Heat despite being Spayed. Even so, I hope my lovely Spayed Female Felines will still find love out there.
Seasons
Oh the rain, such a poetic moment from nature. Sitting cozied up with a blanket and a cup of coffee watching the world go by with the melodious sound of the raindrops falling lightly on the ground… wait… is that a Sim showering outside? Yes indeed! Showering in the Rain is possible in Light Rain conditions.
Fish Dinner will now be counted for completing Grand Meal Holiday Events.
Similarly, Shower in the Rain has been fixed for Simmers who have installed Eco Lifestyle, making the most of every resource available!
All soaps used are biodegradable - we promise!
Snowy Escape
Create A Sim asset yfBody_EP10CoatDenim will no longer create an issue with all knee-high boots. Though those boots were made for walking, the dress needs to look fabulous too. My opinion, allegedly.
Child Sims will no longer get the Unblessed sentiment after getting Blessed at the Youth Festival. Children should only get the Unblessed sentiment if they ask Yamachan about a Voidcritter Hunt and also avoid getting the Blessing of Youth from an Adult Sim as well. #Blessed
Extreme Sports enthusiasts will now be able to complete High-Intensity Skiing or Snowboarding on Intermediate or Expert Slopes. Good luck!
Recipes from this pack will now appear when unlocking Gourmet Cooking Skill Levels. Particularly Levels 3 and 5. Yum.
Sims will no longer freeze when performing interactions from a computer in Mt. Komorebi, specifically 2-4-2 Wakabamori. I think I saw this in a movie once… but… had a less “happy ending.
Discover University
Fixed an issue in which the icon for the trait Mental Magister appeared to be a Placeholder icon. Or was it?
Progressing in the Law Career will now unlock Promotions appropriately. Keep up the good work!
Eco Lifestyle
Fixed an issue in which the icon for the Making with a Mentor Moodlet was not showing the correct icon.
Eco Lifestyle-specific Traits are now added to the Clubs choices if Simmers have Get Together installed.
Collecting Beetle Nuggets will now be possible when Beetles are ready. Bon Appetit.
Outdoor Retreat
Veggie Dogs and Hot Dogs will be able to be roasted in Campfires once again. Iconic.
Vampires
Is your Vampire Sim tired of drinking the same old regular Plasma? Are they drinking it to the point that they can no longer tell if it is Plasma anymore? Ugh, such a hard diet, right? I can relate…ahem... Vampire Sims will now enjoy a more varied diet of Fish, Frog, and yes… Regular Plasma when left to their own devices.
Tiny Living
Tiny Homes will no longer magically get clean and have Dust Bunnies disappear (if Simmers own Bust the Dust) when Sims travel or Simmers reload the game. Man, I wish my apartment would magically get clean like that though.
Nifty Knitting
Fixed an issue in which the expiration timer for items listed on Plopsy was not appearing.
Paranormal
Haunted House Residential Lots will now enjoy the presence of Dust Bunnies and Fiends if Simmers also have Bust the Dust. Dust Bunny goes Boooooo.
Bust the Dust
Your Sims had a lot of things to do today, but you know what they did instead? They Vacuumed the Lot. It was a really good clean. Cooking? Vacuumed the Lot. That Gig? Vacuumed the Lot. What about those push ups? Vacuumed the Lot. Reading? Vacuumed the Lot. Looking at this bug? We made time for that. The end of this bug? Released with this Patch. Sims will no longer randomly drop their queued tasks for Vacuuming.

So I played Snowy Escape this week! It’s my cup of tea! I watched LGR’s review (and Plumbella’s too) and yeah, as usual, I agree with both of them. The pack doesn’t give us a lot that’s really new, especially in terms of gameplay, and I really wish there had been even small interactive moments aboard trains and ski lifts. However, I also agree that it’s a really aesthetically beautiful pack. The way tourists who haven’t gone to Japan yet think of Japan might be like Tokyo Shibuya area, or Osaka shopping streets... but uh, Tokyo and Osaka are only two cities in all of Japan, and pretty much the entire rest of the country isn’t like that. The majority of Japan’s tourist attractions are nature- and history-based, after all.
The big question for me was just how touristy “Mt Komorebi” was going to come across. Sims is pretty noticeably America-centric, and Western culture is the norm. They put out Jungle Adventure and it’s like stepping into a 90s action movie. The most progressive thing you can say about the locals in that pack is that, due to being governed by the same rules that apply to all Sims, they don’t come across “different” enough to be straight up othered. The area they live in, of course, is underdeveloped in spite of the “culture” skill, and very much is meant to be an exotic adventure for Indiana Jones.
Komorebi’s not that bad though. I was impressed at first by the amount of detail there seemed to be. I never expected we’d get space heaters and kotatsu and nabe in-game without downloading CC. Taking off your shoes to go inside, using chopsticks, sliding doors (which I’ve wanted more of for SO LONG), are all true to life as well as modern and also just nice to have. There’s some weird bits, like how when sims sit at the kotatsu they don’t sit on their knees, their legs just disappear into the floor... I guess we can assume there’s a hole underneath (which is the case with some kotatsu just not usually the at-home kind). I also would have liked more every day interactions, like doing homework at the kotatsu or watching TV or even taking a nap.
The patterns for yukata/kimono are pretty awful though. The more understated ones I can live with, but anything with a splash of color is a fashion disaster.
The look of the houses in the towns are really nice. The interiors, not so much, but that’s easier to fix than the facade and landscaping for most of us. The non-interactive backgrounds areas really do look like Japan. It’s a pity we can’t explore it at all. (I would have LOVED just one interactive conbini. That’s one Japan staple that it’s simply weird to leave out. They probably figured conbini wouldn’t have anything the vending machines don’t have, but personally I’d rather have conbini than vending machines. Unless they made it rabbit hole, in which case fuck it)
Also liked the snow festival and the lights festival. It’s true there’s not a lot to do at them, other than take pictures, and it was really hard to get good pictures with my sims in them... When I went to snow festivals, you could do things like light candles in little snow cubbies, or have a meal in a kamakura, etc. That would have been nice. Otherwise it’s just look at the pretty sights and make normal snowmen. Same with the lights festival - it’s gorgeous, but... They do have food stalls but the variety is limited. You can get four different kinds of yakisoba and ramen but no okonomiyaki, no ikayaki. There’s no festival games. I’m currently festival-starved due to covid-19 so my hopes were a bit higher. Still... like I said, I enjoyed them. I guess I just like pretty things. And I do spend an inordinate amount of time just taking pictures of my Sims doing things anyway xP
The Youth festival is pretty dull. It seems more like a not!Pokemon festival than anything else. The crepes, however, are great. Also it’s really WEIRD that the koinobori (the carp flags) are out all the time, like a normal decoration, in the city. That’s one culture thing that I think got confused.
So as far as it goes... it’s not as touristy as I expected it to be. I give it props for that. It’s definitely still got a vibe of “non-Japanese foreigner goes for a visit,” as in, I think if a Japanese company made a Sims game with Japanese players in mind, they’d have done a ton things differently. But we got a more robust cultural depiction than we ever have before, so, nice.
The winter sports are fun! I weirdly didn’t get bored even though like LGR says, it is just watching the Sims do the same thing over and over again without any player interaction. That does suck but is also par for the course with Sims 4. Since I play multiple Sims at a time, it’s easy for me to stick one on the bunny slope and just let them ski until they level up while I do something else with another Sim :P (Sims is more fun when you cheat!)
The onsen is a let down. It’s nice, sure. It’s just a spa though. And it’s WEIRD that you can have sex in the onsen while other people are in it, even children, and they are not freaked out, but you can’t skinny dip in front of children. All they get is an uncomfortable moodlet afterwards because now the onsen water is dirty x’D I wonder if that’s an oversight that will get tweaked in the future...
However, onsen is very pretty too. I would have liked a smaller building and better landscaping with two or three hot springs to pick from. Also, there are gendered entrance curtains, but they don’t actually divide Sims by gender and all lead to the same place... I guess it’s good to have for pictures at least. If you want to put in the ladies room and mens room doors you could easily make his and hers as well as a mixed hot spring baths. I think this is one we just have to let the Sim builder greats take on.
So HIKING is awesome! I loved it! It’s relaxing for me. Some might find it dull, but it’s really just so pretty, and for me brings back a lot of memories. Hiking in Japan is pretty much like that (although a lot more mountainous of course). It’s somewhat dependent on your graphics settings - mine aren’t that high so like the bamboo forest vanishes as I cam through it.. can’t get that sense of really being inside it. Also when I came across the cemetery I had my spellcaster try to Necrocall the one grave that has interactions, but it didn’t work, even though the option came up. ?? I was expecting some sort of cool ghost. Oh well.
I’m interested in climbing. I don’t have Fitness Stuff so I never did it before. It’s way more boring than leveling the winter sports though. But I think the mountain climb will be worth it.
There are little kodama and sprites you can come across and interact vaguely with. I’ll accept that as a Ghibli nod. It’s more cute than cultural but it’s also a bit of fun surprise, though I haven’t noticed any real effect beyond a moodlet. (Was told one gave me a present but I couldn’t find it in my inventory so I think it was just the moodlet.)
Also the bugs!! That’s very Japan! And you can buy insect repellent hahaha that’s a level of realism I didn’t ask for but will take
I’ll talk about lifestyles and sentiments too. I don’t need them personally. The sentiments are kind of nice to see, but they’re predictable. You get the same ones if you do certain things. They give you a moodlet when the Sim shows up, which I guess I do like, but... tbh it’s damn inconvenient sometimes. For ex, I played by Tsubasa family to explore Mt Komorebi, and I noticed many conversations were inexplicably becoming “awkward.” The reason was - even though no one was saying or doing anything flirty - Kurogane and Fai were getting in the mood by just looking at each other thanks to sentiments, and Sakura and Syaoran were like -___-; I mean, it’s hilarious, but also annoying!
Lifestyles... eh. So far all my Sims just get the same ones. They all seem to get Adrenaline Seeker just for playing winter sports. Also I find the pop-ups warning me when a Sim’s going to lose their lifestyle annoying, and if a Sim gets a lifestyle I don’t want for them, it’s annoying to watch their mood change for dumb reasons like “didn’t spend enough time outdoors today.” It’s the same concept as traits. It’s kind of nice that you can change them around by doing different things, and since we’re limited to three traits I won’t say no to more (for example, instead of giving a Sim the “Loves the Outdoors” trait, you can try to get the Outdoorsy lifestyle and use the trait slot for something that influences their personality more). But all in all I find my Sims still just act the same as usual and the gameplay is all in pop-ups, so it’s just not exciting for me.
Also had a glitch where Sakura would take off her shoes to go inside but when she went out, she put on a pair of snowboots that I never even equipped her with, and she wore them with every outfit. Editing in CAS didn’t help. A reboot did though.
So pretty much, I definitely think they could have done more with this pack, BUT that’s been the case with literally every pack since the base game. There are no expectations for me anymore, that’s why I really just genuinely like this one. I’m happy they picked North Japan rather than Tokyo or Osaka, I think we got a lot more detail because of that.

Fan(fic) Friday: Spotlight on Peni Griffin
Sul sul!
Today, I have a special treat for you guys. I had the chance to ask the very delightful @penig a few questions about Widespot and The Sims in general. For those of you who aren’t familiar with her work, she has created two widely popular hoods for The Sims 2: Land Grant University and the aforementioned Widespot. It’s longer than usual, and Peni expressed the concern that it would needed to be edited down, but in all honesty, her responses were such a wealth of information, deleting any of it seemed wrong.
I’ll stop teasing you, and let Peni speak for herself:
What inspired you to create Widespot?
“I’m always in story creation mode. This has been a large part of the appeal of The Sims 2 for me, as it allows me to tell a particular kind of story that I will never, ever be able to write for publication,  and have always wanted to: the story of a community in which we see every character as the hero of her own story, and how all the stories intertwine (often without the protagonists recognizing it) and affect each other as they all go about their business.”
“At the time I started Widespot, I was in a situation in which my normal professional outlets were not available to me. You will excuse me from going into detail on the subject, which can be summed up as Health Crap. For our purposes, the important thing was that I needed a project, I couldn’t work on a book, I had been thinking for some time about the potential of my favorite game as a storytelling medium, and enough discussion of the matter had been generated over at MTS that I found/was directed to the late lamented Mootilda’s thread on creating a clean, safe, populated neighborhood for sharing.  ( http://modthesims.info/t/455403)”
“I actually went into some detail about the process on my writing blog at the time.”
Did you take inspiration from the Maxis neighborhoods?
“To a certain extent, yes. I decided that what I wanted to create was a neighborhood that would feel and play as if it had shipped with the game, but with less mess. No dead people without full character data, no memories that outright contradict each other, no hints in the bios that can’t be fully explored in the game.”
In your neighborhood, you included different story elements for each family that interconnect. What is your process in developing this story?
“Somewhere around here, I have the notebook in which I first started working it out, but I’d have to dig to find it. I remember starting with the admonition to myself to keep it simple, as your first attempt at publishing in a medium should be simple - you have enough to do mastering the new medium without trying to make something complicated with it. I knew my genre was soap opera, and though I’ve never been much of a soap watcher, my mother and husband are, so that set my parameters. I listed the tools at my disposal - the five base game aspirations, the jealousy mechanics, and the generational play. The question I asked myself at the start of the process was: “How do I create the most Drama for the least amount of effort?”
“Probably the notion of having five aspiration-themed households came almost at once, possibly as I started making name lists. I wanted to give elders a big role, because I had noticed that a lot of people thought elders were “boring,” and I knew they were wrong! I’ve always felt that Maxis missed a big trick by not having a Scheming Matriarch in Pleasantview. I wanted to shake up some stereotypes and have sims who didn’t obviously “belong” in their aspirations - shy Romance sims, outgoing Knowledge sims, lazy Fortune sims. I wanted all the households intimately connected to each other, which meant that for simplicity’s sake the story (story being defined as “person with a problem”) should center around one particular event that triggered events in all the households, a cascade of consequence. At which point I wrote down “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a fortune must be in want of a wife,” and decided that the wealthy Mann family coming to town with a highly marriageable son and a Dark Secret was a good place to start.”
“That turned out not to be the trigger, but you have to start somewhere.”
Aside from your official captions, how did you set out to convey plot to those who play Widespot?
“I tried to take pictures of enough key moments that the players could inspect the albums for clues. By playing out the development I had ensured that some important information already existed in the memories and relationship panels, but I also went in and inserted memories that seemed to me significant. I had specific meanings in mind when I gave Mary memories of potty-training her younger siblings that extend all the way back to teenhood and manipulated some of her relationship scores with the testing cheats, but I wanted the players to be free to interpret those memories and relationships according to their own ideas, so I tried to background my own opinions as much as possible.”
“The plot, after all, is the players’ job, not mine!”
As far as literal world building goes, how did you factor in your characters’ surroundings to both their plotlines and their characterization?
“The smallness of the town, necessitated by the decision to keep things as simple as possible, gave me the starting point and the town’s name - it’s just a wide spot in the road, hardly a town at all. Rural areas have a certain vibe; certain types of people grow up there, and certain kinds of people wind up there, so this was on my mind as I designed the characters, built their homes, and decided what order they should be created in CAS and moved in.  Each house has a history, not all of which is necessarily made explicit to the player, and some of which really, really made me long for something more than BG Maxis content! But I think most people get that the Land cabin was built piecemeal over time, that a lot of Skye’s house was DIY, that the Beech house is Daytona’s house and the rest of her family just lives there, etc. Skye only got educational toys for his kids, but the Lands have a teddy and a dollhouse as well. The Mann’s house is the only one with a fence, and Rich ensures his privacy with stained glass windows in certain rooms. He also has that ominous closet full of aspiration rewards. (I hate that I couldn’t get him a counterfeiting machine - he clearly needs one.)”
“Some details were dictated by the game mechanics. Penny needed a double bed to get pregnant in, but there’s no particular reason for one to exist on her lot; so the heck with it, everybody in that house gets a double bed and I don’t even try to explain it. The lowest-numbered playable in the hood is always the telescope slapper, so I had to create the Mann family first in order for the guy with the Dark Secret to be the one who was incensed at the possibility of being spied on. But who would beard Rich in his own den when he, Lana, or Junior used the telescope in the daytime? That would be the local cop, wouldn’t it? This is why the Land house (with the nubile Land daughters) is right behind the Mann house and the Mann telescope is pointed straight at it. I also used the house to train the Manns - especially Junior - into wanting to buy things by furnishing it minimally to start with, and then adding items as wants were rolled for expensive artwork, games, etc.”
“When I gave characters their starting skill points, I assigned them partly at random, partly according to the implied backstory and role, and partly according to what would be possible in the game. If logic or a random roll indicated that someone in a household had a skill, I made sure that suitable skilling items existed in that household. Woody has an easel because it’s a solitary tool for gaining creativity points; the other families have the more sociable piano.  Neither family is much concerned about the impression they make on the outside world, so they are not oversupplied with mirrors, unlike the other families, where Charisma matters.”
“This all works back and forth; the character or situation requires something in the setting, and then I realize that having this thing here means that I also need this and that means I should improve the relationship between these two characters, or whatever. My first and best playtester insisted to me that Goldie needed a teddy bear, and made a good case for it based on Goldie’s characterization, both in the bios and as played; and she was right, so I added it almost at the last minute. (Which is why, so often, the first thing Rhett does it pick it up and try to talk to someone through it.)”
“One thing that I was aware of during development, but am a little reluctant to discuss, is the possible implications for the setting of the racial makeup of the neighborhood. At the time I was born, in the state where I was born, the Land and Beech marriages would have been illegal; and I had that in mind when I mentioned familial disapproval in the Land bios. Some people pick that up and run with it, most people ignore it. Most people look at the Hart’s Spanish-style house and decide (despite the name) that the family has a Mediterranean or Mexican background, but others have decided that Valentine is black/white biracial and all the Spanish influence comes from Angel. I have no desire to dictate anybody’s interpretation or play style, but I do want to enable as many interpretations and play styles as possible, and this variety is an indication of success to me.”
In a lot of ways, fans have come to regard Widespot as highly as they regard the original three Maxis neighborhoods. Did you envision the neighborhood being this popular?
“I beat my “expectations” about the reception of any particular work to death years ago. While I was building Widespot, I told myself that if the only person who liked it was Aegagropilon (my first playtester), that would be good enough and anybody else’s approval would be gravy. Well, Aegagropilon loved it; and I’ve lapped up quite a bit of gravy since then. I don’t have much of a grasp of how popular it actually is, and that’s not the important thing. The important thing is that I know some people are playing it, and enjoying it, and using it in different ways. How many there are, and how it stacks up next to the many other (and in some cases far more sophisticated) fan made hoods out there, is out of my hands. I’m better off not dwelling on that.”
How did Widespot evolve after you started? Were there any massive deviations from your original plan?
“Development was an alternating process of playing (including building, character design, and actual play) and working things out on paper in illegible notes, which is always how I work. I haven’t properly thought anything till I’ve written it down, but I’m a “pantser” rather than a “plotter” - i.e. I tend to fly by the seat of my pants when creating. Too much planning kills the story for me. So once all the preliminary work had been set up, and the broad strokes of the storyline determined, the rest was done directly in the game, with a little help from the testing cheats, Tombstone of Life and Death, and so on.”
“I knew I needed to wind up with a baby for every adult woman, but I didn’t always know who specifically would be the father of each baby until I saw how characters interacted. I knew one of the households would have a ghost, but for awhile I thought it might be Lana. I assumed Candy would have two lovers but I thought one of them would be Hamilton until she informed me otherwise. As mentioned earlier, I thought the Manns would be the central, triggering household rather than the Harts. I had no plans for the teens or children at all, and they took care of their own storylines”.
On a different note, what was your inspiration for the dynamic between the Harts and the rest of Widespot’s inhabitants? How did you develop the idea for these entanglements?
“As a family of Romance sims, their job was to wreak havoc. And boy, howdy, did they! But only after I realized Angel had to be the town ghost. The family ran much too smoothly when she was in charge - she and Valentine constantly smooching it up, Rhett being Mama’s boy, Candy being Goldie’s social support. Kill Angel, and everybody falls apart and starts making bad decisions. I designed Valentine as a Dirty Old Man; but he refused to be only that. I designed Rhett as a heartless jerk, and he can be that - but he’s also the only one of the immature Mama’s boys in the hood who has lost his Mama. I designed Candy as a golddigger, and yeah, she is - but she also made friends with Daytona and Goldie without any prompting from me, and she put herself in the middle of what turned out to be the hardest knot to untie in the whole hood, the Mann Triangle.”
“And Goldie - well, Goldie was a darling who autonomously put the rest of her family ahead of herself repeatedly, could never finish her homework, and never once brought anyone home from school or came home with anyone else.”
“TL;DR: I didn’t develop the Harts. They did.”
You’ve been very active on both Mod the Sims and Tumblr for a while now. How has The Sims community evolved since you first got involved? Why do you think there is still such a strong following of the series?
“It’s hard for me to speak to how it’s evolved, since I was never part of the Age of LJ and only started playing Sims 2 since after Sims 3 was already out. Also, having been on the fringes of a lot of subcultures in my life, I have become adept at keeping away from the stuff that stresses me out. So I’ve never hung out at SimSecret. I block tags on tumblr. I avoid anything smacking of edition wars, don’t allow anonymous communication, and back out of controversies as fast as I can - with an apology if necessary, because face it, everybody’s a jerk on the internet sometimes, and the most you can hope for is to not be one any more often than you can help.”
“So I have no idea how the Sims community as a whole is going on, and I only have a limited knowledge of the portion of the Sims 2 fandom that hangs around specifically at MTS and attracts my attention on Tumblr (often by tagging Widespot). Within this limited sphere, I have noticed a few changes. I used to see it assumed as common consensus that all Maxis premades were “ugly” and that “ugly” is a bad thing; moreover, that certain sims - Goopy Gilscarbo and Sandy Bruty in particular - are more “ugly” than most and are to be avoided at all costs. Now people are shipping Goopy and Sandy (that’s largely @holleyberry’s doing, I believe) and embracing the cartooniness of sims with enthusiasm.”
“On older websites I often see “realistic” (i.e., modeled on airbrushed photos in fashion magazines) sims that, as far as I can tell, are identical to each other and to the ones on the other old websites they link to. With current websites, however, I can not only tell the sims from each other, I can tell Person A’s versions of the premades from Person B’s at a glance. This is especially marked on tumblr, where I often know who originally posted the pics I’m looking at regardless of the attached avatar.”
“And there has been such a flowering of creativity in so many directions in the last eight years it’s overwhelming, though I don’t know how that compares to the days before I started participating. I like to think of Widespot as the vanguard of a Golden Age of hood-sharing. Nobody moans about the lack of clean fan made neighborhoods anymore; they’re agonizing over whether to play Europa or Widespot or Emerald Heights or Polgannon. And suddenly people are making new face sliders. Neighborhood deco lights up at night now. There’s mods for parking on the street, taking toddlers and pets on vacation, hunting, foraging, beekeeping, on and on and on.”
“I think the main difference between now and eight years ago is, that people were defensive about still playing Sims 2, and a general air of playing a “dying game” hung over us all. Now we are joyous and defiant and declaring that Our Game is the Best and Will Never Die.”
“Or maybe that’s just the people I self-select to see. How would I know?”
As a writer by trade, did you find many similarities between creating Widespot and writing a novel?
“My experience has always been that there’s an underlying unity among all kinds of creation, and in particular that storytelling is storytelling, whether it’s the language of text, sound, line and color, or whatever. My writing habits and skills translated seamlessly into the medium of the game. The chief difference, once you factor out technical matters, is that in most forms of storytelling, you need to provide a discrete unit of Story and give the reader the pleasures of closure and narrative structure, pruning out everything that disrupts that weakens the sense of completeness.”
“When making a sims neighborhood, though, you need to be as open-ended as possible, and you need to discern the optimum moment to turn the hood over to the player, while it’s still bristling with plot hooks and unresolved situations. You don’t need, as I did, to deliberately choose the moment at which a bunch of hard choices must be made immediately; but you need to put the player into a situation in which the choices he makes will matter and shape how the neighborhood develops from that point.”
You often play neighborhoods like Pleasantview and Strangetown. Do you prefer playing your own sims or those created by Maxis?
“That’s like asking if I prefer to read Diana Wynne Jones or Megan Whelan Turner. (And if you aren’t familiar with those authors, boy do you have some great reading ahead of you!) The answer is “both.” I enjoy playing characters I’m engaged with, regardless of who made them. Sometimes I wonder what’s going on with Vidcund and want to play Strangetown; sometimes I want to reconnect with the sims in Drama Acres, my personal custom neighborhood; sometimes I want to play with some of my own plot hooks from Widespot. It’s all good.”
If you had to pick between Widespot and Land Grant University, which would you choose?
“I’d attach LGU to Widespot and play them both. I don’t do either/or choices.”
(She just defeated the Kobayashi Maru.)
Do you intend on creating more neighborhoods?
“I actually have three on hand right now: a downtown called Bigg City (an empty version of which is available on SFS  http://simfileshare.net/download/207580/ ); a Seasons/Pets neighborhood I call Knotthole County; and an AL neighborhood called Port Cochere. The populated Bigg City got real complicated, real fast and when Health Crap is in a certain state I can’t work on it. Knotthole County is almost completely built but got interrupted while I was designing the characters; and Port Cochere is an SC4 map and a bunch of illegible notes. And at the moment I can’t work on any of them because I need two disk drives in order to use AGS, and one of them has gone wonky. However, I should be able to replace that soon, and then - well, maybe I’ll finally get that last week of work done on Bigg City. Or maybe I’ll decide (again) that if I’m organized enough to work on that, I should seize the moment and get queries out instead.”
Your content is themed around The Sims 2; have you played other titles in the series?, If so, which installment in The Sims is your favorite to play? For storytelling? For building? For creating sims?
“I’m a late adopter by nature. I started with the original The Sims and played it till I felt I didn’t have anything more to discover in it, at which time I started looking into the Sims 2, assuming that I’d eventually plumb its depths, too, and move on to Sims 3 about the time Sims 4 came along. Then I discovered that Sims 2’s depths are unplumbable, and that it was the perfect vehicle for that all-community storytelling I’d always longed to do.”
“The more I learn about the later iterations, the more certain I am that I will never play them. I’m sure they’re fun in their own ways, and I certainly don’t look down on anyone who chooses to play them; but I don’t like the way they look, I don’t like the lack of a storytelling tool, and most of all, the mechanics and structure of the game don’t enable my style of neighborhood play. The Sims series consists of four distinct games with four distinct sets of strengths and weaknesses; and the first two are the only ones I feel any call to play.”
Lastly, why do you still continue to play The Sims? Do you feel that the games provide a positive creative outlet?
“It still gives me pleasure. And I still have Health Crap and need projects, and have a computer that will play it. The Sims 2 is as much a part of my life as reading and playing tabletop RPGs and board games with my friends. So why would I stop?”
“The game is a positive creative outlet - it has nothing to do with my feelings on the subject. One of the most rewarding things about having made Widespot and LGU is seeing people use them as springboards for developing and experimenting with their own creative capacities. Also, a lot of simmers are deliberately using the game to control or relieve some condition or other. Depression, OCD, chronic pain from which they need distraction - I’m not the only one with Health Crap, and I am honored whenever anyone uses something I made to  deal with theirs.”
“They could have done these things without me, of course - but they didn’t. They used something I made for their own benefit, and I can feel good about that.”
Any parting comments, teasers, spoilers, public service announcements, etc.?
“One of the core concepts by which I live my life is that creativity is the quality that defines humanity best, and that it is the birthright of every single one of us. But we’ve been educated to think that it’s something special and separate, accessible only to certain special “talented” people; and brainwashed to think that personal creativity that can’t be monetized is a trivial use of time. On the contrary, creativity is to a large extent what time is for. Whether it’s a book, or a game, or a prom dress, the process of making is fulfilling and enriching, and sharing what we make is nourishing to us and to those we share with. So whatever your medium is, whatever resources are available to you, whatever ideas are quickening in your brain and hands - go for it.”
“It is not a silly waste of time.”
To those of you who haven’t played Widespot, go check it out; you won’t regret it. Thanks again to Peni Griffin for allowing me to pick her brain, and I hope you all enjoyed reading it. I certainly found a new favorite word in “pantser.”

Hey guys! Sorry I havent posted in such a long while.. A lot of my motivation as died recently which is upsetting to me so i havent many and edits of my sims creation in awhile. I wanted to begin trying to create Renders though! But for now, i wanted to start bosting about my progress in the not so berry challenge! (Yess, I decided to actually play sims instead of just making them!) Also if you don’t know what is the not so berry challenge is, you can find out more about it from here -> “not so berry challenge”
Its honestly been a lot of fun and I’m really enjoying it so far! But I wanted to start documenting whats been happening in the challenge so far so let me go ahead and start telling you guys!
______________________________________________________________
Our sim for gen 1 is named Pepper Berry. (Named her after Peppermint.. mint generation.. peppermint.. Thought I was really creative with this one haha.) I had her move into Evergreen harbor. Upon moving, I built for her a small and cozy home and had her begin on digging whatever dirt mounds were nearby for some goods to sell.
We did this for the day till work time finally came along. (We had a bunch of neighbors show up for the housewarming party and lets just say.. Almost all of those sims peaked her interest thanks to a mod that could let me tell.) On her first day of working and meeting her coworker Pa’ka. Pepper made it very obvious that she was intrested in him. After work she would be invited to join a club, after accepting and going to her first meeting she’d meet a bunch of new people and make some more friends including a guy name Collin.
After some time Pepper and Pa’ka would go this house for a date, and one thing led to another and they had a few woohoo’s.. Also, Pepper would find out Pa’ka is a mermaid. Upon returning home and taking a pregnancy test, she’d find out she’s pregnant! The next day at work Pepper would tell Pa’ka of the great news only to be met with a reaction of what seemed to be.. not caring. Pa’ka would end up moving in to help Pepper during her pregnancy, and Pepper would end up getting a major house upgrade since Pa’ka was reallyy loaded on money.
After a few pregnant days Pepper would give birth to a baby boy and name him Rory (i picked his name after finding out Rory meant “red-haired king”). Due to the mermaid genes Rory would be very be born with some red hair features. (Due to this mermaid genes all future kids would end up being born a unique hair color).
Pepper would need help trying to take care of the baby but Pa’ka showed no intrest in helping. Refusing to do anything. Pepper had enough and went off on Pa’ka for not caring about the baby, and turns our. Rory didn’t even want kids yet. Pepper would break up with Pa’ka and kick him out of the house and begin caring for the baby all on her own.
Many friends would stop by and turn out to be a great help, including Collin. Collin ended up being the biggest help, and just wanting to care for the baby any chance he could get. Pepper and Collin would go and hangout after he asked out and after some discussin, Collin and Pepper would decide to move in together. Pepper was struggling finaically at this point and Collin despite being unemployed was doing very well off.
As well, during this hangout Pepper found herself having a deep connection with Collin and he felt the same way, so thus a new relationship began. Rory would age up in a toddler and Collin would adopt Rory as his care dependent. During this time, Pepper and Collin decided they wanted two more kids, but something kept going wrong. Collin was infertile. But because this is sims, Collin and Pepper paid a lot of money to have her and his DNA taken to create twins. (I just made them in CAS with messing with genetics, but that doesnt sound as cool as this so shush). Pepper and Collin were able to bring home their two new toddlers, Hailey and Kasey Pepper.
Time passed by and everything was going pretty great, and we finally managed to complete one of the Mint generation tasks! We completed the elements collection! Rory aged up into a kid. Now, the day before the twin’s birthday where they age up into kids, Pepper and Collin had gone on a date. Upon returning home they decided to go for a jog together. But upon this jog Pepper would get abducted by aliens.. yeah.. She came back down pregnant. But to my surprise, Collin and Pepper where both very excited by the fact she was pregnant. Some more days would pass, and Pepper would give bith to an alien baby girl and name her Meghan.
(Also completely off topic, the day Rory was born, after taking care of baby Rory and going to sleep, Pepper woke up and went to his room to die of laughter.. So i kinda had to cheat her back alive. Love thatt lol)

Laundry Day
So, taking a break from the art thing today. Well. Sort of. Did some studying earlier but now I’m taking a break. Bought the laundry day expansion for the sims 4. Was pretty excited about it. Something as mundane as laundry, go figure. I like anything that makes the sims game more realistic and complicated. I even have a document I created for a lineage type thing. (If you don’t want to read all this tl:dr is at the bottom.)
Lucid ~ Inheritance: None Savings: Current Loans: Life Insurance Policy: Premium Life Policy – Weekly Payment: $300  Interest Rate: 10% Total Payment Upon Death: $445 Total Household Funds (Before Insurance Payout): Total Household Funds (After Insurance Payout): Funeral Costs: $20,000 Debt: Total Household Funds (After Deductions): Living Will: None When the person, Matriarch or Patriarch of the family dies their debt from loans and funeral costs get deducted, they write up a living will when their elders, the dole out inheritance. And if their debt is substantial it gets split up among the children so that they have to pay it instead (sorry no inheritance for you). I am on the second generation of this (the third was just born today, a bouncing baby boy named Icarus because go figure I like to name my sims after my characters.) Lemme tell you a little bit about the Dream family (Yes, her name is Lucid Dream, original I know.) So, Lucid Dream is the daughter of Mae Dream a single mother (made in cas along with the toddler Lucid). They lived in a shabby little apartment that had rats, a bad fuse box that was always going out, leaky pipes, a strange grate in the bathroom that sometimes leaked some weird sludge, and a mysterious bad smell that cropped up on occasion. Her mother was unemployed (at least on paper) and made her money from her list of gentlemen callers. (Each time she seduced someone she would get 500 dollars for the first um...encounter, then 300 if she slept with the same one again, and after that a mere 100 dollars per time.) She made about 300 dollars a week (on average) Despite all this Mae tried to provide for her child and pay her rent. Most of Mae’s callers were sporadic but there was this one guy who kept coming around (he practically lived in that apartment, showed up whenever he wanted) and after Mae’s second accidental pregnancy by him (yay mods) she decided it was time to get a real job. So she became a dishwasher at a local diner. Now, Lucid, her younger sister Enid, and her brother Louis all shared a cramped little bedroom in this cramped little apartment for much of her childhood. They were all born pretty closely together. Enid and Lucid spent some time as children together while Louis was a toddler. Lucid was a driven child aspiring to be the best she could despite her circumstances. In grade school she got straight A’s and received the trait “creatively gifted” for her lovely refrigerator art. However in high school she only managed to get A’s by the skin of her teeth. She got a part-time job working retail (poor thing) to help pay the bills, and spent all of her free time taking care of her brother and sister. By the time she became a young adult (and proudly earned the responsible trait), her mother had managed to become part of a catering crew and was doing alright for herself. So Lucid decided it was time to move out. She went on to pursue an art career (due to her creatively gifted skill) and spent some time focusing on that career until she met her next door neighbor Johnathan. Johnathan, as it turns out, was not only a vampire, but also had the trait of being evil. However, he treated Lucid alright and (thanks to the influence of her mother’s behavior in her upbringing) they moved in together. (This was before she knew about said evil trait.) Now, Lucid has almost gotten to the point that she has reached the top of her career (Patron of the Arts), so she decides that she wants to start a family. They try and try but for some reason it seems like it’s not meant to be. Lucid is distraught, the neighborhood has pretty much named Johnathan public enemy number one (because he keeps feeding off everyone), and it seems like Lucid’s hope for a happy family home will be forever out of reach. Until bam! One day those magical streamers and sparkles appear and Lucid is pregnant yay! The very next day however, while having tea with one of the neighbors and trying to mend their bad relationship, Johnathan thinks there shouldn’t be any harm in just have a little sip of Xander (said neighbor’s) blood to just get him through the day time. Unfortunately this little sip causes Xander to keel over dead in their living room (yay more mods). Now, Johnathan is actually pretty broken up about this so to keep his insatiable appetite in check he now has a coffin in a closet where he spends his time hibernating. Only coming out to write books and feed and shower before going back to sleep. But the kicker is that despite Lucid not having ever really spoken with Xander, (and probably due to some weird glitch) Lucid is in mourning OVER A LOVED ONE? (She actually had a negative relationship with the guy so I have no idea why but yeah). So, she spends the remainder of her pregnancy, literally right up until the point of giving birth, completely and utterly depressed. Crying all the time. Sleeping a lot. Until late that night, she goes into labor, rushes to the hospital, and has her darling baby boy. (We don’t know if he’s a vampire yet, still waiting to see.) Now Lucid is taking care of her baby, forgetting to move the laundry from the washer to the dryer, and trying to stay sane. But she’s happy. Johnathan has gotten a job as a writer, but still spends his time sleeping in Lucid’s closet unless he’s going to work or having a quick snack after work. TL:DR Lucid had a tough childhood with a prostitute mother and two younger siblings fathered by one of her mother’s Johns. She moved out right after becoming a young adult, started an art career, met the not so friendly vampire next door, and fell in love. She continued to strive for success in her career, after failing many times finally conceived the child she’s always wanted and has a vampire boyfriend who lives in her closet and only leaves to suck blood and work on his tragic vampire poetry in the tough world of writing. Still don’t know if Icarus is a vampire and not sure what’ll happen next. Also the new laundry day stuff pack is pretty cool. The new outfits, super cute. New hair styles, also cute. I do wish that clothes would get left scattered on the floor instead of automatically dropping into the hamper but maybe that’s just me. I happen to like the extra micromanaging step of something like having to put the clothes in the hamper themselves. Overall though, worth the ten dollars I think. Anywho! Thanks for stopping by! Arra

And finally...replies. :)
Sorry if this gets incoherent. :) We went on a hiking day-trip with a group of friends today, and I’m pretty wiped out. Just wanted to get Tumblr communication done before I totally crash because otherwise, I get way behind and never get out of the hole. :)
First of all, I’m very happy that people liked the skies I shared! I did work hard on some of them, and I’m so happy to see them in people’s games. Thank you all for all the “thank yous.” ;) And I look forward to making more, too. I think the rotating ones are going to come out well. :)
And now for more specific replies for @nerianasims, @quill-of-thoth, @kyosmash, @strangetomato, @elfpuddle, @eulaliasims, @lilsisterg, @holleyberry, @littleblondesim, and @penig...
nerianasims replied to your post “kyosmash replied to your post : You can always use the fitness4all mod...”
I 100% get what you're saying, but I feel like the game itself is largely at fault in this one case. It's a mess when it comes to weight. To deal, I look at the "lazy/active" node as "slow/fast metabolism." Unfortunately, the way the game is programmed, the only way to have chubby Sims organically is to have them eat "too much" (which ugh, I gain fat when I don't eat enough.) So I have noeatcrap for that. And because seeing Sims eat spoiled food makes me feel sick.
Yes, it’s true that game mechanics are partly to blame. And really, the “eat too much, get fat” thing IS a reflection of real life. That is actually how it is. Generally, if you eat too many calories for your metabolic and activity level -- barring various medical issues, etc. -- you’ll gain weight. Thing is, that’s true for everyone. Not just for lazy people. True, less active people require fewer calories so if they aren’t careful they are more likely to gain weight than more active people, but if a lazy person is careful and doesn’t eat too much for their lower activity level, they are no more likely to get fat than a marathon runner. (Barring, as I said, various medical conditions like thyroid issues and whatnot.)
The issue, in my mind, with the mod is that it “targets” only one group of Sims for fatness, to the exclusion of everyone else. And it happens to be a group that, in real life, is stereotypically fat. The vanilla game does not do that. Like I said, I’m probably over-sensitive on the issue because of my own struggles (even though my own struggle is to put and keep weight on, not to lose it), but many people are overly sensitive about something in the game. It’s probably inevitable, since it’s meant to reflect real life. True, it’s “supposed” to be a cartoonish kind of life, but a lot of people don’t play it that way, so...Yeah, people will get bugs up their butts about different things. This is my very own pet butt-bug. ;)
quill-of-thoth replied to your post “kyosmash replied to your post : You can always use the fitness4all mod...”
What I always wish with the pescado mods is that he ever took the time to LIST all of the things that he did in them in his initial release, because we need that info to prevent conflicts... even with other MATY mods. I also wish I could mess with BHAVS, I've been meaning to find something to vastly reduce rolling wants to be cured of supernaturalism / unlink it from aspiration forever...
Yes, I have the same wish. :\ But as I said elsewhere, not documenting is part of his shtick. So, that leaves it up to users who care about what they put in their game to do the documenting. That’s wrong, IMO, but what can you do? *shrug*
Anyway, I could very well be wrong but as I understand it, rolled wants aren’t related to BHAVs and are just governed by “want trees” that link certain wants to certain aspirations and things like that. There are mods out there that alter those trees, but they are sort of like default replacements in that you can only have one replacement file at a time. Perhaps it would be instructive to look at one of those? It usually isn’t for me because I often have not a clue as to what I’m looking at, but maybe you’ll have a better understanding than I would. :) Me, I’d just like to nuke curing wants altogether. In my game, the various “supernaturals” are just genetic conditions and can’t be cured except by aliens, who have superior knowledge of genetic engineering. So, those wants are completely worthless to me and are never fulfilled unless the aliens happen to cure someone when they or a relative has a cure want for them.
kyosmash replied to your post “kyosmash replied to your post : You can always use the fitness4all mod...”
Thank you for the info! I've actually been getting into BHAVs myself so if I get a chance I might be able to take a look, maybe there's just one or two things to get pulled out of there. I wasn't aware of this because I've had it in my game for so long I didn't think about it. Have to agree that Pes' descriptions are a little lackluster sometimes.
Hey, if you come up with anything, I’ll be happy to have it! :) And you’re welcome for the info. IMO, when it comes to Pescado’s mods, the more info that’s shared about what they do and don’t do, the better. :)
strangetomato replied to your post “kyosmash replied to your post : You can always use the fitness4all mod...”
Yeah, I understand they were his personal mods, @lilsisterg. I'm just saying that for my game, those features make the mod unusable. And the more disparate features included in a single mod increases the sense of "his way or the highway". And I will gladly take the highway if some of those features put me off.
That stuff I bolded and italicized up there? That. Totally that. With Pes’s mods, I stay very close to the on-ramp to the highway until I’ve thoroughly tested. :)
And on a totally unrelated note: I am so happy to see JRO on my dash lately! I’m not gonna be able to catch up and comment tonight before I crash, but I just wanted to say that I’ve been thrilled to see you posting. :)
elfpuddle replied to your post “You can always use the fitness4all mod from MATY so your already...”
What food mods do you use instead (if any)?
Very few. Off the top of my head, I think the only food-related thing I have is Mog’s “Simply Leftovers,” so that leftovers can be stored as individual plates rather than as group meals that have to be re-served. Oh wait! I also have one that makes the meals have 8 servings rather than 6. I think that’s all I have that’s food-related...
eulaliasims replied to your post “The bad thing about @nyshabrokeit‘s new townie body diversity mod? Is...”
I kind of want to, too, and I *make* all my townies. Such a cool mod!
I will never, ever, have the patience or desire to make all my own townies because Sim-making is definitely not something I enjoy doing. Plus, I kinda like seeing (and sometimes pointing and laughing at) what the game comes up with. It’s why I townify everything. So, the mod is just what I wanted. :)
lilsisterg replied to your post “You can always use the fitness4all mod from MATY so your already...”
I make all of my townies and I have this mod installed ... Some of the townies are fit and some have gotten fat over time. I believe it works according to their lazy/active personalities. I'm not really sure, but I also have a mod that prevents Sims with high active points from over eating which helps keep them fit. This adds balance because I suspect without it all of my townies would be fat by now.
This one, I’m going to try out, see what happens. I suspect that I will end up with too many fat townies because I enjoy sending Sims out to eat and I currently have a couple player-owned restaurants that get run five days a week when I’m playing the owning household. Non-playable Sims at restaurants get a push to eat whether or not they are hungry and regardless of their personality, and that will contribute to them getting fat with such a mod in place. Whereas I believe (although I could be wrong) that at a community-lot gym, the visiting Sims are still governed by the lazy/active aspect of their personalities as to whether or not they’ll work out.
In any case, I appreciate that Nysha’s new body diversity mod creates “extreme” townies, in that those who are generated as fit or fat are at the extreme point values for those states, so they will not be too easily altered by what they do (or are forced to do) on community lots.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a "Just for Fun" hood I'm thinking of starting over now too.
I actually AM going to restart my religious isolationist ‘hood, now that I’ve ironed the bugs out of its ruleset, and I got kind of excited about being able to use the mod in a non-testing environment...and then I remembered that that neighborhood will have no townies at all. FOILED! :)

Is their ideal family sized based on that one algorithm you shared that one time? Vague question is vague. :P
Yeah, it is. Basically, I arbitrarily assigned a range of values for each aspiration that I think made a sort of sense. For instance, the max number of kids for Romance is 2, while the minimum number for a Family Sim is 4. When I need to assign an ideal family size -- which is most often when a born-in-game turns teen, but also for married-ins and for CAS Sims -- I do two random number generations, one for each of their aspirations, and then take the average of the two results as their ideal family size. This way, a Family Sim with a Romance secondary (or vice versa) would have the possible extreme results for each of their aspirations mitigated a bit.
Nathen is actually Knowledge/Pleasure, but he managed to roll the high extreme (which is 8) for both of his aspirations and so ended up with an IFS of 8, which is usually more like a number a Family Sim would have. :) So, that was interesting. :)

It beats Test Subject, and she'll rise like a rocket.
True. But it’s just disappointing that there is very little career reward for all her hard work. :) The limiting factor was one of the necessary skills for the career; the biology major just didn’t require her to get that many points in that category. (I don’t remember which skill it was off the top of my head. Maybe Logic.)

Recruitment Agency In Malaysia-What is IT recruiter?
In order to respond to the increasingly complex demands of today's businesses, the information technology department, once almost entirely populated by skilled technologists, has morphed into a more flexible corps of business-savvy IT professionals. In filling more customer-facing roles, technical prowess (while far from obsolete) takes a back seat  in many cases to skills like project management, business-process Recruitment Agency In Malaysia change or vendor management expertise. (For more on this trend and three roles that have emerged as critical—the project manager, the relationship manager and the business analyst—see "The New IT Department: The Top Three Positions You Need.")
ADVERTISING
According to Gartner, six out of 10 IT employees will assume business-facing roles by 2010. The shift in IT needs has meant increased demand for certain IT hires and a decrease for others. (For information on more hot jobs like IT finance and internal consultant, see "More Hot Hires.") Then there are positions that require both technological sophistication and business savvy, like the increasingly popular enterprise architect. (Check out "Wanted: Enterprise Architects.")
The shift is represented in recent research from Foote Partners, which has been tracking a decline in pay for IT certifications along with a steady rise in pay for non-certified IT skills. According to CEO David Foote, that's because employers are desperate for workers who can get things done. "Technical skills are certainly part of the mix," says Foote, but "being a desirable 'impact' worker means getting along with people, keeping an eye on IT's role in business execution and quickly delivering what customers want, which is a moving target."
If this all sounds a bit fuzzy to you, you're not crazy. During a time of shifting roles and responsibilities (like now), everything is in flux—from titles to skill sets to pay. As a result, successful IT recruiting has become as much art as science.
Unfortunately, there's still a discrepancy between what CIOs say they want in their candidates and the skill sets of those they actually hire. Business capabilities and project management expertise represented eight of the top 10 skills identified as critical to keep in-house, according to a 2006 survey by the Society for Information Management (SIM). However, the majority of respondents primarily sought technical skills in entry-level recruits. IT leaders who have spent years looking for technical proficiency may have trouble adjusting their hiring practices to net candidates with business and the so-called "soft" skills.
If your hiring managers are still looking solely at IT certifications or programming language capabilities, it may be time to rethink those practices. (For some new hiring tricks from veteran CIOs, scroll down to the "Rethink Hiring Practices"
More and more, new IT hires are as likely to be brought over from the business side as they are to have been groomed in IT. Some CIOs and IT managers do find it easier to teach technology skills to business professionals than vice versa.
One potential problem is that, depending upon the reputation of IT in a given organization, business people may not be all that interested in jumping to the IT side. Diane Wallace, CIO of the state of Connecticut, pitches the perks of IT to the larger business community. "I know IT can be a very attractive place for them if I market it correctly," says Wallace. "I tell them that the great thing about IT is that it's one of the few places in any organization—from state government to the private sector—that touches every important project going on in the business." Wallace pitches business recruits on the chance to get involved with large, strategic projects across all the state's divisions instead of working on one initiative in a non-IT department. Her marketing mantra? "You don’t need to know how to code."
A recruiter is a person who works in the company to fulfill the job opening of a company or business. Recruitment Agency In Malaysia performing several steps like finding a candidate, interviewing candidate, screening, negotiating salaries with the employee.
Every company uses IT, recruiters, to hire an employee for areas of technology. Some of the positions include system architects, analysts, developers, engineers, and technical support staff members.
To find companies that need their IT recruiting services, recruiters may use cold calling, networking, or requesting referrals. establishing relationships with those who need recruiting services. They must also understand each company's policies as well as any governmental laws
They use job fairs, social networking, community organizations, Internet data mining, and media channels. Recruiters first identification of potential candidates through screening and interviewing. Conclusion:Almost to provide a punishment, myself and other children like me were sent for a few hours a week to a remedial group, and a gorgeous German lady who spoke in broken English would listen to us read. Due to the size of the group we were lucky when we had two minutes attention each. Often I would certainly sit and do nil.The incontrovertible fact at fourteen I was running three small successful businesses and keeping this accounts, budgets, cash flows and creating my own marketing, apparently didn't count for anything to my teachers and careers officer. If you cannot find a career that matches your CV, then you might want to change your CV. Although it's very time consuming to edit and change your CV each jobs, the effort is worthwhile. Here's the net income on segmentation - it's more execute. A lot more work to do it now consistently and effectively. But it's worth it when you understand how now more conversion you'll achieve on account of your response rates are so larger. Those operating a successful Recruitment Agency Malaysia website usually has a flat fee for their service rather than requiring a variable fee. The most typical charge can be always to charge per CV. Some candidates may list their CV many different places and you would be able to charge them per Cover letter. How you charge will make or break enterprise. You want to be fair but while doing so you make a tough to adapt. You can charge a fair price and still need room to bargain if required. The investment in learning to respond, adapt, evolve, modify, improve from taps for that shoulder you will save a fortune in wealth, and more importantly, lots of unnecessary dysfunction in are attracted to.Stop contemplating email like silver bullet and start thinking with it as this really is: a good delivery of the seat. The Sims 4: New Game Patch (May 25th, 2017)
Update: 05/25/2017 – PC Version 1.30.103.1010 / Mac Version 1.30.103.1210
Hello Simmers,
Welcome to the base game release for Parenthood! Which is all about those quiet family moments. Taking time to enjoy when things settle down. When all becomes quiet, and you can just take it all in, reflecting upon life…
..er, wait sorry. That’s like 20-30 years after parenthood begins (results may vary).
I meant to say, this is a hectic time. A time of crazy, noise filled chaos, where the concept of quiet exists for only 3 hours between 2 and 5 am. And where tension is worn like a badge of honor! So wear yours with pride, and let’s start with just a little bit of what’s new in this release…
What’s New?
The Load / Save menu has been updated to be… modern.
Save slots now use household thumbnails instead of a text list
Save backups can now be restored via this UI by clicking on the Recover Save option from the Load Game dialog.
Users can now see where on disk a particular save file exists by hovering over the File icon in the Load Game dialog.
You can now rename your save from the Load Game dialog.
The auto-save feature has been removed as it was not functioning properly.
The Save As dialog has also been modified to show thumbs.
The first option in the Save As dialog is to be used to create a brand new save, but you can also choose to overwrite existing saves.
No more will you have to remember which save your Goopy-Gilscarbo household was in – it’s all visual now!
Thumbnails however will be blank until the save is opened, and re-saved post patch release.
You can also click the button to copy the path to your clipboard.
The feature as originally implemented was confusing and did not function as expected by users.
Save now occurs explicitly at the players request either by choosing to save when exiting to the Main Menu, Manage Worlds, or Quitting. Or by choosing Save or Save As from the ESC menu.
New Lights in Buy Mode.
Three new lights can be found under Ceiling Lamps in the Object by Function, Lighting sort.
Round Confection Ceiling Light
Square Confection Ceiling Light
Campanulate Ceiling Lamp
And today I learned that campanulate is a real word…
And then on to what issues did we address…
General Issues
Children can now smash a dollhouse that is currently in use by another child…
Sims will no longer get a whim to get married if they are already married.
The Successful Lineage aspiration (within the Family category) will no longer fail to recognize if a child had previously completed the skill and aspiration requirements of the 3rd and 4th step.
Babies will no longer change skin tone when they are picked up.
The Georgina Outdoor Lamppost With Double Hanging Planter can now be turned off by the player.
Silence phone once again will silence your phone…
Along those lines (the texting part)… Children should no longer receive inappropriate text messages from adults.
The Connections reward trait will no longer prevent your Sim from purchasing career rewards unlocked by career levels earlier than the boosted connections career level.
The Cu Cu Cachoo display skull now costs 175 Simoleons.
Performance improvement: Movement level 1 toddlers should no longer contemplate the use of objects on floors they can't reach.
Toddlers will now also visually drink from their sippy cup when seated on the ground.
Fixed a Sim reset issue that could occur when one Sim chose to autonomously tell a story to another Sim.
Sims are swimming laps again.
Sims with the masculine preference for clothing will no longer randomize into feminine full body swimsuits while in Create a Sim.
We fixed an issue that could cause a toddler to inherit the emotional whim of nearby adult Sims after loading into a lot, which could result with the toddler acquiring a flirty emotional whim.
Sims facial features should no longer adjust after selecting a different eye color swatch.
Young Adult and Adult lifespans have been increased by 4 days each to accommodate the addition of Toddlers.
Industrial Reinforced beams will no longer appear through the ceiling when placed on the floor below.
With cheats turned on, you should now be able to modify NPCs in Create a Sim by shift clicking on them and choosing "Modify in CAS".
Lights that have had their color and intensity modified, and then set to auto-light, will no longer revert to their default color and intensity setting.
You should no longer have to reload your lot or travel in order to get fresh cuttings to properly function from within your inventory.
We fixed an issue with how the stats panel appeared…
We have adjusted the hairstyles for our premade Sims (such as the Goths) to not change drastically during outfit changes, where it would not make sense for their hair to change.
PlantSims are now able to sleep in tents.
You should be able to once again share to Twitter from the game.
…because frustration is best served shared.
It’s simple folks, “Happy spouse, happy house.”
Getting a child to do “work” once is tough enough, getting them to do it a second time… I’d suggest hitting up the kid exchange for a trade in.
Um, you still receive the calls, you just won't hear them.
Well, you can hear the call of course, just not the ring, beeping, or musical stylings of Lorde Swift von Iggy-Flay …
Of course, I guess you don’t really hear, it’s more of a read…
Kind of a one way thing, with a yes no response mechanism.
Who invented this type of phone anyway?
We have fixed various possible ways in which children might receive inappropriate text messages… if you are still seeing this issue, please let us know.
In addition , care was leveled upon the career levels in order to carefully level the rewards in care of the connections.
The walrus is not for sale.
Highly intelligent toddlers may still contemplate their place in the universe.
Toddlers with high wisdom may still contemplate their daily movements.
High strength toddlers may move in contemplation.
Toddlers with unusually high charisma may seek contemplation of others.
And highly dexterous toddlers may contemplate how they might also be like Mike.
Previously they would only drink it through some sort of liquid teleportation behavior that defies explanation.
Blue eyes? Of course sir, let me just push your nose this way a touch. No? Then brown eyes? Yes, wonderful choice sir. Let me just pull your jaw out a bit. No? But sir, no need to raise your voice, you chose brown, not me. If you wanted your jaw to stay chiseled you should have chosen green!
Unless you have a bad contractor… then there’s really only one thing you can do, get yourself a nice MLT.
My town? Hawaiian shirts and bunny slippers!
…the stats panel.
It's a button in the upper right of the Simology panel? Shows stats? And stuff…
…about your Sim, you, things you may have done…
It's been there since the very beginning.
Ok trust me, we fixed a visual something or other there. It’s better now.
This issue was fixed for all in tents and per pose.
Vampires
Vampire ears on the base form of a Sim will no longer disappear when the Sim enters live mode.
Fixed an issue that could prevent a Sim from gaining access to others' homes when they have the Eternally Welcome vampire power.
Sims that have been turned into Vampires should no longer have a non-functional age bar.
Toddlers born with vampire parents, will now maintain the eye color they were born with (or that the player had modified them to be) even after loading them into Create a Sim.
Eternally Welcome, except this time. And… that other time. Oh, and remember after the house warming party? Yea… definitely not eternally welcome.
City Living
A Love Guru from the Romance Festival that is married into a household will no longer remain immortal.
I’m reminded of the philosopher Socrates, when after an eventful night of revelry, he said “I married what?”
Vintage Glamour Stuff
Light from the Fiery Façade fireplace will no longer shine through the back of the fireplace.
Butlers will no longer appear on retail lots when they should be at home... butler’izing.
Asset Issues in Create a Sim
Hey folks, so along the lines of our Create a Stuff Pack program, I’m going to take a moment in this section of issues to provide a little insight into what the issue is, and who on the team might address them, so that you can see a little into how to evaluate an issue.
I’ll start by providing information about what the issue was and what was fixed, and then provide some insight into who would address the issue.
These two issues are considered tagging issues.
You can now wear necklaces with yfTop_SP08ShirtButtonOpen.
You can now apply a bracelet to your right and left wrist when wearing the level 5 business career outfit yfBody_EF01BusinessSuitMed!
Issues like these are fixed by the production team. In both of these cases, an asset was set to restrict the placement of another asset.
Production modified the tags, and now these assets no longer restrict placement.
These three issues are considered clipping issues. They generally appear to the player as one asset poking through another asset (and in some cases the character model itself).
Fixed a clipping issue with GP01BootFoldover and various pants.
ymHair_GP04Slashed will no longer poke through yuHat_GP04Toque.
ymShoes_AnkleSquareToe will no longer clip with ymBody_EF04ShirtSkull.
These issues are fixed by the art team. And are generally addressed by modifying one of the offending asset’s geometry (moving stuff around), or addressing something like weighting (how an asset lays against other assets).
The highlight issue fixed here, turns out is also a clipping asset issue.
Fixed a broken highlight issue that would occur when hovering over yfHair_ShortShave and yfHair_BuzzCutNatural while in Create a Sim.
It could be engineering, since highlights are handled by code, however in this case, it was a geometry issue with the hair assets that created the highlight issue.
This is a character layering issue.
Female Sims with a masculine frame should no longer have two belly buttons when in Create a Sim.
Keeping this short, but Sims have layers (like an Ogre). And if the wrong layer is added to the stack, you get issues like this. This issue is an engineering fix that required a different layer to be used in order to properly create the Sim.
This is a geometry vertex issue.
Fixed an issue that could cause some eye presets to stretch the geometry of various hair assets improperly.
This issue is addressed by an artist, and in this case was caused by a single vert (the angular point of a polygon) that was being incorrectly shared with a part of the face that caused the hair to stretch.
This is a texture issue.
We fixed an issue with a visible seam on the torso of female Sims.
This issue is addressed by an artist, and required the artist to modify the texture of the base Sim model. The texture being the paint over that makes a Sim look like a Sim, and not a wire mesh. And the base Sim model being the bare Sim without any assets.
Hope that provided just a little insight into some issues, and who fixes them. I know this focused primarily on asset issues, but I just wanted to dip our toes into the waters of development…
…wow, that sounded really cheesy.
Many apologies, and thanks again for your patience and time!
