I think Jacob's the type to have practical skills like knitting and cable knit sweaters have that association with sailors. He makes himself and Maisie matching sweaters for the winter and then she insists Blue get one too. Jacob knows full well Blue is not going to enjoy a sweater at all but makes it regardless.
