He finds himself momentarily disarmed by the aspect's words, rare occurrence that it is to have another acknowledge his regard for the boy goes well beyond any perceived usefulness (Zed has never called him son; he knows well the damage fathers can cause, and he would never impose that upon his favored student). The wording changes little, nevertheless; he had taken him in and raised him the best he could, ever striving to be a better father than the ones he had.
The yánléi would not claim he succeeded, that he was good at it at all; but he does hope the other man is right, even if only in part: that he managed to have some positive impact on Kayn, if nothing else. "Patience and respect are what any child deserves," he replies, as if it is always so simple (as if he himself had not suffered with the lack of it). "Would that he listened more when it comes to his own well-being."
