imo the best example in mtmte of 'most fandom spaces have a lot of people who struggle to write a super confident character as anything but faking it/secretly anxious' is the minor tendency to characterise thunderclash as somehow deeply insecure under the surface, as though the entire gag of his character isn't that he is in fact as precisely perfect and lovely as he seems to be, and it's not even slightly a facade. thunderclash being completely and genuinely secure in himself without feeling the need to achieve this by putting other people down is like. part and parcel of the fact rodimus finds him infuriating. you lose that whole bit if you say thunderclash is faking it!
