Because I am a filthy gossip fiend and a disgusting person, I am wondering what your take is on the Jeremy Strong no-show through award season! Is he REALLY just working? Does the entire Succession cast hate him? Do you think maybe he didn’t want to spend time with Brian Cox considering Brian has been making his mouth go so damn much since the show wrapped? What are your thoughts on the way the camera cut to Jessica Chastain’s extremely lukewarm applause after Jesse Armstrong thanked Brian in his best drama acceptance speech?
I mean, I tend to take these things at face value and Jeremy probably is simply taking the chance to work with Ali Abbasi before the play opens, but heee this is all fun and slightly evil to speculate on haha 😈
Ahahaha, I mean!! It does feel conspicuous, but then Brian hasn't been there either. I'd hope Brian's comments since the show would be water off a duck's back for everyone given it's over and he's been giving big old man yells at clouds energy, but who knows - actors are often a pretty sensitive lot, haha.
I actually don't tend to think there's much beef between the cast - both Jeremy and Kieran have made comments alluding to the fact that they can feel a bit like a real family in the sense that there's a lot of love but that they annoy each other too, and I suspect Jeremy, Kieran and Matthew in particular would rub up against each other given how different they are both as personalities and in their approach to acting.
Personally, I do think it's probably a work thing, which makes it a shame he doesn't get to be a part of Succession's victory lap. After all, contractually, he might not have been able to take time off.
Actors usually have to negotiate leave and are generally only allowed a certain amount that can be scheduled around - it's expensive to shut production down, and any delays can result in losing both cast and crew. I remember hearing that Zendaya had had to negotiate time off from Euphoria to do the Dune press tour which meant she was unable to take any further time off for events she was typically a given at like the MET Gala which the rest of the cast attended.
Depending on budget and availability, a lot of productions don't let actors take any time off at all, and the reality for Jeremy is that he's actually under a pretty inflexible schedule himself given An Enemy of the People starts on Broadway so soon. I imagine he just doesn't have the wriggle room, particularly as a co-lead, which likely isn't helped by the fact that Sebastian Stan doesn't have much either given Thunderbolts is in pre-production already too.
Plus, y'know, he's method, haha. To already be going between Roy Cohn and Dr. Thomas Stockmann, only to regress back into feelings of Kendall and Succession might've made the decision a headspace one too.
