There’s Black Clover SD Chapters on YouTube! Here’s a Link and Summaries to Each!
Remember how I said there were chapters of Black Clover SD that were serialized in Saikyo Jump but were never released in any of its manga volumes? It turns out they were released as YouTube videos on Saikyo Jump’s channel! They don’t have any voice acting, but they have background music and sound effects, which I think is pretty neat!
There are five chapters of Black Clover SD on Saikyo Jump’s channel, each divided into three short videos. You can find the full playlist at -
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZlMwo93TWBwJF0zQFNbl1LV785YkGkrC
Here’s a short description of what each chapter is about, without spoiling the ending of any of them.
Videos 1-3: Find it! The Search for the Golden Kabuto Beetle!
I summarized the preview for this chapter before here. In short, Asta and Noelle tag along with Zora in search of the rumored golden kabuto beetle. While searching for this beetle, they meet a girl whose late father was the one who spotted this beetle. However, many people from her village didn’t believe her father and called him a liar, while others started looking for the beetle for nefarious purposes. Thus, Asta’s group teams up with her to help her prove her father’s words and protect her and the beetle from the people going after the beetle for profit.
Videos 4-6: Video Magic Panic!
A lot of magic knights have started making YouTube videos (called Maho Tube in this universe, which translates to “Magic Tube”). Asta gets addicted to watching these, and then decides he’s going to try to become a YouTuber. Luckily for Asta, Magna, Charmy, Zora, and Gauche have already been making YouTube videos for a while, so Asta joins their group’s channel. I’ll make a post covering all the YouTube channels from this chapter later.
Videos 7-9: Jack the Ripper and the Unbreakable Bond!
I translated the preview from Saikyo Jump here. The preview ended when Asta and Noelle make it back to the hideout only to discover that a baby magical beast accidentally clung to Asta instead of its parents. Of course, the baby is scared of them, so Asta and Noelle put on magical animal ears that allow them to understand what the baby is telling them and turns them into furries. Now able to talk with this magic beast, Asta and Noelle work to return him to his parents. Along the way, they run into Captain Jack and his squadmates Sekke and En. The baby animal is initially terrified of Jack, but between Jack’s feral personality and his good instincts in providing care for baby beasts, the baby starts idolizing him.
Videos 10-12: Asta is the prince, and the prince is Asta!?
Asta, Noelle, and Yami are given a mission to escort the prince of a small ally country to the Wizard King. They soon discover that this prince, named Atsa, looks just like Asta! However, they also discover that this prince is a total scaredy-cat. At the Wizard King’s office, Atsa explains that his parents disappeared a month ago, and an evil prime minister used that opening to start ruling the country. As prince, Atsa should fight him and take his rightful place as king, but he's too weak, both physically and mentally. Thus, Asta and Atsa switch places. Disguised as the prince, Asta, along with Noelle and Finral, head to the kingdom to keep the prime minister at bay, though Asta has a hard time pretending to be a prince. Meanwhile, Atsa stays behind at the Black Bulls’ hideout, where he learns to become a stronger person both inside and out.
Videos 13-15: The Black Bulls’ Horrifying Hideout!
Note: Video #14 and #15 will likely come out sometime this November.
Finral sees a terrifying apparition in the hideout. After telling Asta and Noelle of his experience, Asta recalls that he has seen some weird stuff happen to him, too. Thus, they decide to investigate the hideout and get to the bottom of this haunting. They run into a lot of false alarms thanks to their squadmates though.
If any of those sound interesting to you, click the playlist and check it out! Maybe more views will mean we get more spin-off content in the future…

trivia:
― he’s played all kind of games and his twitch channel was created 9 years ago (whew) and it currently has over 5 million subscribers. currently, he streams mostly genshin impact, valorant, league of legends, overwatch, spider-man: miles morales, cyberpunk 2077 and the witcher iii. every now and then he makes charity streams. he also makes special lives with other gamers and figures where they play games like among us, minecraft, fortnite (though he absolutely hates it), party animals, fall guys and other party games. ― despite the rumours around him and his parents, he’s never talked about them to the media. it’s not like chance hides the information, after all it’s online, but he swerves questions about them and pretty much decides to not say anything about them just to avoid controversy. his parents didn’t mind until last year the company they worked at offered him a sponsorship and yohan turned it down. it’s safe to say they were pretty hurt over this and they haven’t talked much recently. ― yohan is, in his words, the biggest fan of spiderman (not really) but he’s his favorite heroe of all times and he collects everything and anything that has him in it. his biggest collection is funko pops with over 30+ figurines. he collects funkos of various other interests of him as well as enamel pins. ― lowkey a weeb. he likes watching anime in his spare time and if he likes it too much, he’d buy the manga and read it as well. his latest obsessions are kimetsu no yaiba, boku no hero academia, haikyu and jujutsu kaisen. ― won’t ever admit this out loud, but almost every ghibli movie makes him cry his eyes out, even when he’s watched the same one over and over again. he prefers to watch these on his own. his favorite one is grave of the fireflies. ― it took him a while to get used to korean culture, a part of him is still trying to. luckily, his family would speak in korean in their household most of the time and this helped him not struggle as much when it came to the language. his streams are most of the time in english to cater to a bigger audience, but recently he’s got himself a small team of an editor and a translator that’s helped him add subtitles to the videos he uploads in youtube. ― his current setup is completely sponsored except for a few extra things he’s bought himself and he has minimal experience when it comes to builds, though he’s really interested in learning and has recently researched more about the whole topic, hoping to get his first custom build by the end of the year. ― has terrible road rage and this is the reason why he doesn’t own a car or a driving license, even being in the backseat makes him anxious and would much rather prefer to use the bus, a bike or his skateboard to commute between places. taxis and other rides are his last option, if he’s quite honest. ― as a neighbour, he’s polite and tries to be mindful just to avoid needless problems. the first thing he did was soundproof his office in order to not disrupt others, but sometimes this doesn’t work as well due to how loud he can be. chance will try to greet every neighbour he encounters either with a wave or a simple nod. ― loves dogs but doesn’t feel he’s responsible enough to take care of one yet, though he will certainly volunteer to pet-sit his friends’ dogs.
wanted connections:
― life in seoul: he’s been wanting to start a podcast that has nothing to do with his main channel, aka a podcast about the culture in seoul from different perspectives, he wants to know about other people’s experiences. can be people that have lived all their life here or foreigners that, like himself, are pretty much new or can’t get enough of the city. it’d be a pretty chill podcast and anyone can participate! ― people that know about him and lowkey follow his streams (or just play them in the background while doing other stuff) ― or people that know about him but dislike him because he’s said stuff before about other public figures you’re a fan of. or he just simply rubs you the wrong way. ― people who absolutely hates when he streams late at night and he’s full on screaming at the screen (he tried to soundproof his streaming room but someone he can be way too loud, sorry) ― he’s always up for a good collaboration regardless of the topic: food, art, random tags and challenges. even if it's not up to his alley, he's likely to always say yes just for the laughs. ― the group of friends yohan met in different ways. they're not all strictly gamers, streamers or anything of the sort, but whenever they get together to play some games, it's a total chaos. and he wouldn't change it at all. ― the one person that always gets his packages delivered by mistake to your place instead of his. or the other way around. ― more: friends, enemies, a penpal, a platonic soulmate, workout buddies, etc.

First Encaunter <3 - a Donghyuk scenario:
word count:1.8k
Ps: Sond - Suran - 1+1=0
Ps²: If there’s any grammar mistake, I apologize!
Just two years ago I was this eighteen years old girl who was a month away from finishing high school and did not know what to do with her life. I wanted to do everything but at the same time did nothing, until my dad came home with a camera and changed my life forever.
I decided to set the camera up and talk about the make up tricks I used, obviously it was for fun so it was poorly edited. Youtube was starting to get really popular in Korea and me being the chatterbox I am thought it would be nice to just talk about random stuff and in my head only my family and friends would care enough to take a look, but boy was I wrong.
The videos suddently began to gain views and people started subscribing and asking for more and so I did. Looking back at it I am just really proud of putting myself out there because I think that now I would probably be majoring in Law school which was something I did not feel like suited me in any way, but both my parents are lawyers so finding a job wouldn’t be hard.
Now it has been one year since I got accepted into Korea University for visual arts and I love it, it helps me with my videos and gives me enough knowledge to act in several entertainment areas if I want to.
With the success of my channel a lot of brands would send me theirs products and invite me to events and meetings; and at this very moment I have an important meeting with this popular make up brand and I’m already running late.
I left my building in a hurry and decided to stop to get coffee to try and at least make up for my mistake, because unless a miracle happened there was no way I’d get there in time. I entered the caffé close by and felt relieved as no one was in line.
“Iced americanos three, Latte two and Iced tead one” I said a bit out of breath.
As I waited for my order a guy came in wearing a pink hoodie and for some reason his face seemed familiar, but right now I don’t have the time to try and guess from where I know him.
The girl was really taking her time making those drinks and my foot was uncontrolably stamping the floor.
“Here you go, that will be 26.700 KRW” she said nicely.
I gave her thirty and turned in order to leave, but as soon as I did it the guy turned to pay causing us to bump into each other, luckily only our phones fell and we both went down to get it quickly.
“I’m really sorry” I bowed repeatedly as I made my way out.
I caught a cab and just went to the building where the meeting was taking place. The ride took 10 minutes or so and the driver made sure to rip me off, that’s why I don’t take cabs anymore, I paid him and entered the building.
Finally I arrived at the 10th floor and they were all waiting for me.
“I’m really sorry to keep you all waiting, I forgot the meeting was this early” I bowed and honestly felt so embaressed, it made me look unprofessional and I hated it because I always give my best at every single thing I put myself into.
They were very understanding and the coffee may have helped me a bit. As soon as I sat down my phone started ringing and I quickly turned it off to avoid causing more inconvenience to those who were there trying to do their jobs.
...
The meeting lasted for two hours and after the bumpy start things flowed smoothly. I left the room and turned on my phone, I tried to unlock it but it said my digital wasn’t working so I typed in my password which was also wrong, then, I realize that the background was not the one I use.
“Ah please, don’t tell me this is that guy’s phone” I wimped.
I ran to the front desk and asked the receptionist to use their phone, which she kindly did.
“H-hello” I said quite nervous.
“Yes, wah thank god” The manly voice said. It was weird dialing my own number let alone have someone else pick up.
“Perhaps, are you the guy from the caffé?” I asked politely
“That’s right! Our phones got mixed up when we bumped into each other” He explained even though I already suspected it.
“Ah you’re right” I said.
“I called so many times but you didn’t answer I was bit desperate sorry” He laughed a bit and I believe it was out of relief.
“Sorry about that, I was in a meeting and after seeing the random number I turned it off thinking it was a mistake” I explained.
“So could you please tell me where you are? I can go to you right away to exchange it” he said and I was impressed at how kind he was, if it was somebody else they would be so angry at me, but after all, I didn’t mean to do so.
“S-sure, I’m near yeouido in an office building but I can go to a caffè nearby” I explained.
“Okay, I will call from the random number I did earlier when I get over there, so don’t be afraid to pick up” He kindly said.
I thanked the lady for letting me use the phone and took the elevator. That area was filled with caffès and I definitely should’ve been more specific.
As I passed the stores I thought that maybe I should get him something as an apology.
“Wah you’re going to get poor this way” I said to myself.
I decided I would wait for him at the ‘Audrey Hepbrun caffe’, on my way there I saw this phone accessory store and I had the brilliant idea of getting him a phone case so he would not mix up his phone.
“welcome!” this girl said as I came in the store.
I was looking at the cases when this pink one caught my eyes, it was the same color as his hoodie from earlier, of course it was silly, but it was just a simbolic gift anyway. I picked it out and quickly paid since I had to get to the caffé soon.
I sat near the window and ordered a coffee, I mean I was already there and this day is just a complete mess, only coffee could boast me up for the rest of my schedule. I was calmly sipping my coffee when my phone rang, well, his phone rang.
“Yes?” I picked up.
“Hello, I am at Yeouido, which caffe are you at?” He asked politely.
“The Audrey Hepburn caffe” I explained.
“Ah okay, I will be right there” The way he said make me feel like I was waiting for my blind date and I felt silly for actually thinking that.
The door opened and I noticed the pink hoodie instantly. I raised my hand in order to make him notice me. I noticed he brought a guy with him and found it weird, maybe he thinks I am creep, that made me feel like an idiot for getting a gift, but I am most likely just overthinking it.
“Ah hello, I’m Kim Donghyuk” He bowed after introducing himself.
“Ah, Choi Hye Jin” I stood up and bowed.
He and the guy along with him sat in the chairs in front of me and I handed over his phone and he handed me mine.
“Wah, I was really scared when I couldn’t access it, I thought I would’ve to buy a new one” He said smiling.
“Yes, I didn’t notice because we both have black cases” I said and looked over to the little white bag by my side, maybe I should just keep it.
“Should I buy you another coffee? After all, it was my mistake as well” He suggested after noticing my empty cup
“Ah no, don’t worry” I denied and looked at the bag again.
“I insist” He said and got up to order.
A few minutes later he came back and I gattered the courage to ‘return the favor’.
“Here it is, hot americano, not many people order hot coffee” he laughed.
“Yes...Well, since you bought me coffee I also have something for you” I said while timidly picking up the white bag.
“Oh you shouldn’t have, it wasn’t your fault, seriously” He tried to deny it.
“I insist” I repeated what he said before “Got you” I smilled.
I handed him over the bag and he reached in to get the case.
“Wah, thank you so much, it even matches my hoddiet” He said and bowed in gratitude.
“Ah yes” I didn’t want to say that’s why I got it, but he would probably notice afterwards.
After giving him the gift we all got ready to say goodbye and leave.
“Well, I’ll get going now. Sorry for the trouble” I bowed as we left the caffe.
“Ah no, it’s okay, really” He did the same.
We both waved goodbye and parted ways. I decided to go home because I had a video to edit and some homework to turn in. As I made my way home I had to cross this busy street, the pedestrian signal was red and I looked up to see the music video for that popular song lately, I guess the group is iKon, I saw them on tv last week.
Once I lifted my eyes I felt all the heat in my body go straight to my face because the guy in the music video was the guy I just met like ten minutes ago AND gave him a pink phone case as if I was a casual friend.
...
The rest of the way was horrible, I kept thinking how dumb I was because I knew who he was, I even recognized him when I first saw him, he also said his name.
I opened my apartment door still in awe at my stupidity, it felt like I had left my soul standing in that sidewalk. He was so kind and nice towards me.
“Wah, you’re really something, seriously” I said as I looked at myself in the mirror.
I changed into my comfortable clothes in order to study and do some editing but I ended up searching his name. It really was him, I feel like I will be part of those funny stories idols tell in variety shows.
After hours of loud music and trying really hard to concentrate I finally finished all my work and could just say goodbye to this cruel reality, yes, I was being dramatic but who cares, I pay my bills so I can overeact this little things.
A/N: So, first of all, I hope you enjoy this “scenario” and yes, there will be a continuation since it’s kind of a series/fic idk what to call it yet…
ALSO, very important, I try to be realistic when writing something, so, given that the characters are korean I wanted to showcase some sort of realness with the “wah” and other ‘slangs’ if you may. I am in no way trying to copy them, just give a more “real life” feel to it!!!

Paige Talks Process Behind Her ‘Always Growing’ EP [Q&A]
Tumblr media
Since Paige was 9, she’s been a singer. Larger than life Disney Channel characters like Lizzie McGuire were her inspiration to share covers on her YouTube channel ‘Paige’s Space’, where she gained thousands of viewers (including Billie Eilish, who shared one to her Instagram story), before switching to original song writing as she approached adulthood.
Writing songs is now a way of life for the 22-year-old. She’s signed to Sony and just released her second EP Always Growing. Her debut major label single, ‘Bloom’, was released in late 2019 and led to a busy run of shows, sometimes playing to tens of thousands of people as she supported New Zealand mega-acts Drax Project and Six60. Here she shares the background to her start in music and how she grew into song writing while staying true to herself.
Ones to Watch: You started singing at a really young age, who or what made you want to start so young?
Paige: I used to watch a lot of Disney Channel as a kid. In the Lizzie McGuire movie, she sings this song at the end called ‘What Dreams Are Made Of’ and, when I was about 7, I performed it in front of my school. I guess that's kind of what started it all. I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of music, and I wanted it to become a reality for me.
You picked up the guitar at a young age, was that a Lizzie McGuire influence too?
My grandad passed away when I was a baby and left my Dad a guitar, but nobody ever touched it. One day when I was about 9, I pulled it out and asked if I could start playing. The next day, I took a ‘sick day’ off school to teach myself. I became obsessed. I mainly taught myself through YouTube, then I did lessons for about a year after I got the hang of the basics.
And how did song writing come into your life?
I think I was just fascinated with songs and I really wanted to have my own. When I was 9, that’s when I started playing guitar, so it was all coming together. Then I realised the stuff I really liked to sing about, and at 12 I started writing! Disney Channel definitely influences the music I like, the pop blended with heavy emotions, really corny songs.
The Billie Eilish re-share on Instagram in 2016 was a huge deal, do you remember where you were when that happened?
I was at university, studying music at the time. I was waiting in line for class and I kept seeing Billie liking a lot of my photos. Then my phone started vibrating heaps and I saw she re-shared one of the songs I wrote. You never think stuff like that really happens, and I was thinking ‘Why did she do that? It’s not that great of a song!’. It was so bizarre.
After that, did you feel a certain type of pressure to put something amazing out?
I felt highly pressured. I’d been waiting for attention from the music industry - at the time I was writing songs and putting them online but didn’t know how to start, so I just thought ‘hopefully someone will see me’, then Billie re-shared it.
Now all these people were seeing me, and I didn’t know what to do. It was stressful; I didn’t get a lot of sleep that week. I actually got myself a manager that day, I was trying to be organized. I feel less pressure now because it’s been a while but at the time it was stressful.
youtube
Your second EP Always Growing is out now, can you tell us about the recording process that went into it?
I recorded it with [songwriter] Josh Fountain, I brought him the song ‘Waves’ which I wrote nearly 3 years ago. It was so hard to finish, and he figured out how the production worked. We also wrote ‘Hit and Run’ and ‘Bloom’, actually every song but two we wrote together. We also wrote ‘Yellow’ which was interesting. That's a very vulnerable song and we wrote it after meeting for just the second time.
It actually wasn’t hard to make the songs - it was a fun process to create a body of work I’m really proud of. The EP is about my growth through mistakes I’ve made and moments I’m not the proudest of, every song speaks to me trying to grow through them. I also wanted to speak about things that matter to me like mental health, gay rights and owning your mistakes.
Given you started song-writing by yourself at such a young age, once you started to write with other people, what was the adaptation like?
I started writing with others once I got to university, I was very protective of my ideas and didn’t want anyone else to have a say in my songs, I found it insulting. I was not good to work with for a while! Then I started writing more and getting used to it. I had a big ego, and I’ve realized that I’m not always right about everything! That’s what writing with other people taught me. Luckily when I got put into rooms with writers like Josh, Djeisan [Suskov] and MAALA, I was ready to write.
Over the course of your career, you can see in your music and who you are online that you’ve stayed true to yourself. Did that become harder throughout your career?
I don’t think it’s hard for me to stay true to who I am, that’s something I’m proud of. I’ve always been happy about being quite honest and real, not moulded into something people want me to be. I also have a really big family who keep my feet on the ground. At times it was hard to check in with myself though, particularly after the whole Billie Eilish thing. That was a very drastic thing in my life, I think because I’ve always liked my grounding.
Does that reflect in the artists you listen to?
Actually, no. Although I really admire Julia Michaels and the way she portrays her vulnerability and speaks her truth, I also like the bold and outrageous. Lady Gaga is my favorite! Miley Cyrus too. They’re down to earth in their own way.
Tumblr media
Yeah, I feel like Lady Gaga is just an exaggeration of who she is.
Which I love! I think the music I listen to is quite honest, I tend to be drawn to people personality wise. They don’t mask anything. Maybe that’s why I find it quite easy to be that way.
Over summer you had a few big shows with Drax Project and Six60, how was playing in front of tens of thousands of people?
I loved it! It was my first experience playing festivals, I had never even been to one before! At times though it was a bit discouraging only because you’re the opening act and it can be kind of hard. You’re aiming so high for things, but people aren’t really listening to you sometimes. I learnt a lot from it.
Do you have any tricks to calm the nerves before shows?
I don’t really get nervous; I get really excited! Me and my band members play tag, we stretch. I just have so much energy inside of me! Every summer I’ve either been working at Krispy Kreme or with my mum at the golf course, then this summer everything happened all at once!
Your live set-up has changed, you used to perform with your guitar, right?
I used to perform with my guitar a lot. I had a job singing at a bar where I sang every week. But I always did it with a guitar, never a band. When you play with a guitar you get used to the way you move, and without one I never knew what to do with my hands. Now I don’t ever want to perform with a guitar again, I love to jump around! I love performing, it’s probably the main reason I love making music - watching those Katy Perry and Justin Bieber documentaries, that’s the goal for my career to have some really outrageous production. If I don’t fly in a concert, it’s career over!
Final question, who are your Ones to Watch?
I’m plugging Wells* intensely, he inspires me a lot. He’s doing unique stuff, and people don’t give him the time. I’m a big rap fan too, I’d love to work with Vayne, MELODOWNZ, Wax Mustang. I love Technicolour and Laiika too.

Fake Fake came to my attention through my inbox. I was hooked on my first play, and I think you will be too.
The Victoria R&B duo first collaborated in late 2018 and something immediately gelled. The pair have become good friends and writings partners, and that’s a great turn of events for us.
Their debut offering Goodnightmare is quickly getting international attention, and I wanted to put them on your radar. After listening to Fake Fake, I immediately felt a pull to listen to Marian Hill, but I’m not sure who I would try to compare them to. They’re unique and deserve your attention.
“Their self-described Disposable Love approach to songwriting has been the result, with a focus on rich gospel arrangements, funk-drenched guitars, offset percussion reminiscent of the late J. Dilla, and a wry wit to Campbell’s contemplative lyricism.” – from their bio
Fake Fake is producer and instrumentalist Leith Hynds and Justin Campbell, vocalist and instrumentalist.
Thanks to Justin and Leith for taking time out of their schedule to answer our questions.

5 Quick Questions with Fake Fake
Q1) If you’re on a road trip, what’s the one album you can listen to on repeat?
Justin) I luckily went on a month long road trip recently so have some road tested picks. One album on repeat for me was definitely The War On Drugs’ 2016 release A Deeper Understanding. Amazing soundtrack to the road in general, but also some of the most interesting production on a folk/ rock record you can find, and probably the most emotional guitar work I’ve ever heard. When I first listened to “Pain” I almost broke down haha.
Leith) For a while it was the best of ZZ Top. No real reason other than it was the CD I left in the car. Because I use Spotify now I’d have to say the This is Vulfpeck or This is Prince playlist.
Q2) How are people responding to Goodnightmare?
Justin) People are absolutely loving this track, which has been a bit surprising for us overall. We spent the last few months before the release working very intently on getting the project ready for debut in general, and had Goodnightmare completed pretty early on. So once the responses started rolling in we were a bit caught off guard haha. It’s like that with any release, but especially when debuting a new project. There’s always this intense excitement and confidence behind a track, and then you get to release day and are thinking “I have absolutely no idea how i feel about this track anymore”.
Leith) Checking our analytics every day has been like Christmas. Seeing the overwhelming positive reaction has been both mind-blowing and affirming.
Q3) What can fans expect from a live performance?
Leith) I think the audience wants to be engaged not just auditorily but visually, and through the atmosphere. Ensuring that all elements of the show are viscerally engaging and cohesive is essential to us.
Justin) The two of us – along with our session members – all come from pretty rock/ post-hardcore heavy backgrounds, so there is a lot of that live energy that translates to our performances. I grew up loving pop music but idolizing the raw live energy of bands like Alexisonfire and At The Drive-In so I’ve always wanted to channel that energy while keeping things pop-driven and easy to find yourself in.
Q4) Is there a band or artist you think people should be paying more attention to?
Justin) In the pop sphere particularly, I think there are a tonne of artists that get overlooked despite their mass success because they just simply don’t have the numbers and exposure of the top 1% that people associate with being “successful pop artists”. Although I’m sure they would never personally want the same exposure, artists like Nao and Little Dragon are two acts that come to mind, who I took way too long to find out about! Also, special mention to an incredibly talented art-rock act from Saskatoon, Canada, Close Talker. They’re catalogue is incredibly touching and energetic, and they have one of the most impressive live shows I’ve ever seen.
Leith) Kyle Dion. Why he isn’t at the top of the charts is beyond me.
Q5) Tell us something about you, that even your fans wouldn’t know.
Justin) I used to be a catholic altar boy for a short time when I was 10 years old. Shout out to Catholicism for… only that anecdote. That’s where it ends for me haha.
Leith) I’m a giant nerd. I play D&D, watch tons of anime and sci fi, and read a truckload of comics.
BONUS QUESTION) Is there anything you want to share with our readers?
Fake Fake) We have a new single on the way very soon ❤

Of Form, FreeVerse Poetry & HipHop With Young Kapampangan Musician O L E C R A M
Poetry is close to my heart (I majored in it). So, listening to the stories of young Kapampangan hiphop artists and spoken word poets definitely piques my interest.
Tumblr media
Here, Paulo Marcelo aka O L E C R A M shares what inspires him to create, to keep getting better at his craft. He also talks about how he produced his latest mixtape and where you can go and find it.
1. How old are you and where in Pampanga are you from?
I’m 24 years old, born and raised in San Fernando Pampanga; both parents are from here too.
2. How did you discover your art and what do you do to get better at it?
Since a kid what I’ve always wanted and tried to be was a writer, from writing for my grade school to college newspapers to becoming a local TV news reporter now (GNNTV44Pampanga). So, I guess my art would really be the writing, and I try to get better by doing it. Every single form of it that I can find, short stories, poems, songs, news and feature articles.
In my third year of college (2012 I think), I became the Editor of the Poetry Section of our Colleges Paper (The Nexus) called “Dayang Abias” where I did the lion’s share of editing and writing the poems that got printed out. While doing this, I tried to get a bunch of people help me get a Spoken Word Poetry Event going but it never really happened. Luckily, Spoken Word events were becoming pretty popular in Pampanga a few months later so I started joining them and performing original Kapampangan, Tagalog and English poems.
Tumblr media
I wrote poems mostly when I’m having trouble writing longer stuff like scripts or short stories and such. And poetry was at the time one of the more enjoyable forms of writing.
Usually in a gig, bands, artists, and poets would perform. It was during these that I met people and became friends with other musicians. Sadly, none of them were rappers, until Donna Jane (GVNDVLXCXXX$) started producing her music.
With that in mind, I called up friends I knew - including her - who made music.  Because honestly to this day I don’t know how to make beats, I just know how to write lines and make them flow with the music given to me.  Thankfully, a whole lot of friends and artist supported me and gladly gave me music that they had made a few years back, then I started refining some of the poetry pieces I used to perform and make a mixtape: “The form this grief has taken”.
3. You mentioned that your work is a mix of hiphop and poetry. Which hiphop artists are you influenced by and which poets are you influenced by?
Hip-hop artists growing up was (sic) Andrew E and Gangster rap from the US (e.g. Ice Cube, NWA and others). This was why I didn’t really push that hard in making rap music, I mean I love them and grew up listening to them but their music wasn’t really something I could really connect to, I think I was too young to understand Francis M and other rappers back then. In high school friends were listening to Kanye West, Linkin Park, Eminem, Gloc-9 and other musicians that we all listened to in high school but I was busy writing poems and short stories but never really shared them with other people.
In college you learn a lot, music, art and all that other stuff, the internet was also a big part of my personal growth in finding artists to listen to. Childish Gambino, Lil Dicky (It’s a funny name but the guy is legit), and Token are big influences at the moment (it varies, as you know) I think with how I approach a song, lyrically and rhythmically. Of course the greats can’t be left unsaid, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Jay-Z and all of them.
Tumblr media
I try to listen to a new song a day, you end up listening to a lot of bad music but you get gold ones too and that can change a lot.
For poetry it was always (Charles) Bukowski for me. I like Lourd De Veyra and Juan Ekis (Christian Vallez) but I try not to be influenced by other spoken word artists because I get jealous at how good they are (haha) and I don’t want them to influence the way I perform, but writers like Ned Vizzini, Peter Farrely, Carl Hiaasen, Dan Harmon, Chuck Palahniuk… Though not poets, they are huge influences in terms of the way I write.
4. How does growing up in Pampanga influence your stories?
The biggest influence Pampanga has at least for me are the people living here, Kapampangan Artists and Musicians, even ones who do not really listen to rap music have been super supportive considering I’ve only released a couple of tracks and almost every musician I know here has called to express their support.
Tumblr media
Of course Pampanga is where I’ve lived my whole life so everything, every story that I put in a song, story, poem has been in one way or another been based in or influenced by Pampanga and Kapampangan Culture.
Being raised by a family rooted in Pampanga has been very good too, I can’t speak for others but my parents supported every single creative thing I have done, since buying Andrew E’s first CD, being there when I lost so many times at so many writing competitions, helping with making short films, though they don’t really know I’m making rap music now, I don’t think it would ever be a problem, them not knowing is actually my thing because I write about my personal experiences and there are certain parts of it that I think they would be concerned (haha) if they heard the lyrics or some lines I don’t want them to hear.
Tumblr media
5. Tell us about your creative process, from writing songs to recording them to mixing them.
What happened was with the outpouring of support from other musicians like PROFFET, GVNDVLXCXXX$, MAIZEPAD, KAMPILAN and a whole lot of others, I got a bunch of beats and it was just a matter of finding old poems and writing new ones that I hope would go along with them and make them more rhythmical
“Write what you know” is one of the most well-known phrases out there and its cliché because it’s kind of true, this first mixtape is a mix of me talking about working hard, getting stuff done, coping with loss (my mom dying of Cancer before I graduated College and other personal baggage) being beaten down and getting back up, tuning out the negativity and focusing on what I love to do: writing.
It’s kind of Meta in a sense, some of the songs are about me writing about songs or me working hard on songs. But people seem to like them and I do too and it makes me really happy like finishing a puzzle when I finish making a song.
Tumblr media
Luckily, I work for a broadcasting company so there are a lot of tools like recorders, microphones and computers I used at night when work mates would leave the office I would stay for hours and record, edit and mix songs.
The first title of the mixtape was supposed to be “RAW” because I literally made almost all of the songs using the wrong software (ADOBE PREMIERE) because editing films was something I knew how to do, not music. As of right now I’m learning to make beats of my own but again I see the writing as a priority, a few tracks on the mixtape are straight up spoken word pieces that I wrote a long time ago.
6. Where and how can people get a hold of your mixtape?
“The Form This Grief Has Taken” will be coming out online for free by mid-late November and a couple of other Kapampangan artists have pledged to help for my very first upcoming gig/official mixtape release. I hope to produce at least 80 – 100 physical copies to give people again all for free because I really didn’t spend a lot of money making the mixtape and its my first one too so it’s kind of a “thank you” present for the Kapampangan Music Scene for everything it’s given me through the years.
Tumblr media
It will be uploaded on my Soundcloud, Youtube and Facebook pages and download links will be given out too.
7. Anything you'd like to promote (social media pages, a website, a gig)?
I haven’t really been performing spoken word poetry for a while now because of the mixtape and my regular job, but I would love to promote my:
SoundCloud (https://soundcloud.com/olecramoluap)
Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/olecramtftghs/)
YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5wauDLxPrVzvtXPO73jiyw)
You can find the first few songs I’ve uploaded as teasers for the actual mixtape there.
After the release I’ll go back to performing, the new songs, the hip-hop scene in Pampanga is starting to grow and it’s pretty exciting but it’s still pretty crazy and disorganized but that’s how it is I guess and I feel like coming from a different background and having a different perspective I could really reach out to others even the ones who don’t think they like Rap and Poetry.
