i think i just really go feral for media that analyses human motivations and behaviour that doesnt just run with "humans are inherently evil/beasts and need societal structure to not fall into violence/selfishness," because like... ill tolerate that, its the dominant undercurrent in most media anymore, but its just flat out untrue. its so wildly untrue. humans are so clearly inclined towards generosity and communal care, like, its how we evolved!! civilization began BECAUSE humans are inherently caring and nurturing, not the other way around. so when media goes "ok, given that humans arent born evil, what MAKES them do violence or atrocities?" i go apeshit bc YEAH BOYS LETS DIG IN

#selfishness and violence are twisted mirrors of natural human tendencies and its FASCINATING to explore the means by which it happens #from individual levels to societal influences to cultural pressures #rapture is like what if we took a handful of greedy people and locked a small countrys worth of people into an underwater citystate #what would they choose to do #how would they impact each other #how would they shape the citystate's society and culture and how would that in turn corrupt its people #it drags this out to a very messy horrifying end and i love it for that #it humanizes the splicers in so many ways #like im not gonna claim its perfect but like #to me its such GOOD horror because it forces you to face everyday atrocity #like oh you want violent drug addicts as dime a dozen enemies? #better be ready to hear about their hopes and dreams and fears from Before #better be ready to find out how they were abused and exploited and manipulated into what you see now #better be ready to find out theyre normal ass humans and GUESS WHAT so are the real life ones #idk i want to stick it in my teeth and chew on it forever and ever #yelling at the void
