game impressions: PRIMORDIA

So I just recently laid my hands on this one. Normally I’d throw up a review of sorts but being lazy as of late throwing a set of raw, unfiltered thoughts seems more plausible

I really liked it’s concept. You play as Horatio Nullbuild whose ship got attacked by another hostile robot who also stole the ship’s power core - thus making you go on an adventure with your best sidekick Crispin to get the core back. There was actually a whole bunch of interesting lore you got access to at a certain point and it was a real fun read. It wasn’t in-your-face, you didn’t even have to read all this. Fairly short bits, too. Also robots.

VAs did a great job and really added to the atmosphere. Especially when you’ve got a contrast between a really artificially-sounding, basic construct and one with more advanced AI sounding like your human would.

Characters weren’t very many, but I liked all of ‘em. Crispin, you’re the best sidekick and I appreciate you a whole lot.

Puzzles had me quit at times, but I’d blame that on being terrible with point-and-clicks like these in general. It’s somewhat hard to get yourself into the proper mindset of how the game works if you’re used to everything modern games do. Took me embarrassing amount of time to realise I could combine items in inventory. But I wouldn’t call them incredibly hard by any means.

I really enjoyed the story. Even if I ended up taking a few-day-long break ‘cause I got stuck, I was looking forward to advancing and seeing it through. Also not that long - if one would have no serious trouble they’d probably finish it in around.. 5-6 hours? Maybe less. It also has multiple endings and stuff you could do you might’ve not realised you could - a surprising amount of freedom in this type of game, if you ask me.

I’d highly recommend it.
