This would have a lot more reach on the other blog but anyways on the topic of "sportswashing" someone brought up that they would like for the kazakhstan gp to not get replaced by hungary because of their horrible policies against lgbt+ people. And how they would like for fans at every race to "call out" the bad things being done in that place and all which, while a very noble thought, is simply unrealistic.
Just as an example at the indian gp the trophy was handed out by the chief guest....the chief minister of the state in which the race was held. The man who gave bezz the trophy is someone who is responsible for the deaths of many muslim people (and non upper caste hindus in general). He makes regular calls for genocide. Everyone in the stands was cheering for this man when he was announced btw.
The entire event too was a political show of power. The trophy was a map of 'india'. The name of the event was the "Bharat GP" not the Indian GP. No one talked about any of this not a single journalist I know of. My point isn't that we should ignore these things but that it's a pipe dream to expect people to boycott a race because of a country's human rights policies. We would have no races at that point.
