The Glorious 25th of May is coming up, and I’ve been thinking about The Night Watch, and I just had a heartbreaking thought.

Do you think that maybe the reason Nobby is so short isn’t because he has some goblin somewhere in his linage but because of just how malnourished he was as a kid? Like we all know his dad was a piece of shit, so he wouldn’t care enough to make sure his son was able to eat enough, and while as far as I know the books never say his mom is physically abusive like his dad, they do mention that she doesn’t really keep track of important things like say…how old her kids are? And she doesn’t seem too concerned about her son going off to hang out with a bunch of rebels during a revolution or that he frequently went off to pick pocket people. So even if she wasn’t physically abusive like her husband, it’s pretty safe to assume she was rather neglectful most of the time.

There’s also a bit where Vimes as Keel picks him up, and he notices that he’s far too light for someone his age, and then he gets him food which he wolfs down immediately.

I’d say it’s in the realm of possibility…😥
