Finally reading Meguri, and it’s interesting how they make Rika more sympathetic.

In GouSotsu, she does try to reach out here and there, but she never really strongly defends Satoko either when the girls are mean to her. But in Meguri she’s much more sympathetic to Satoko’s difficulty in transitioning into a “traditional” (quotations due to the fucked up punishments) school setting.

But at the same time, she still doesn’t quite listen to Satoko. The girls Rika surrounds herself with ARE kinda bad. They’re actively trying to sabotage the relationship between Rika and Satoko.

I also like that we see more of Satoko’s self-loathing. GouSotsu BLASTS past it, but here it’s on display. She blames herself for everything. But we also see just how extreme the ISO is. She works herself to the point she causes herself to bleed, and we see a fairly significant hair growth. This wasn’t even weeks, but probably MONTHS of working day and night, never getting to even so much as see the outside of the room.

That kind of isolation would leave ANYONE in an extremely bad state of mind, and Satoko was already struggling with losing all of her support systems in her life. It’s legitimately understandable how Eua is able to manipulate Satoko the way she does. Satoko is truly at her lowest and most desperate.

You know what Higu GouSotsu IS better than Meguri. For one, it wasn't mind-numbingly boring.
