Makeover Time

More makeovers, I say. More makeovers! Once again, I took three early sims of mine and fixed them up a bit. These three are side characters in my non-sims story, which I tell you because I know you care. In order from the top down: Lainie, Andy, and Oona. Andy and Oona are married and their similar genetics are supposed to be unsettling to those who know them. They are not related, even secretly; they’re just weird/narcissistic.

Lainie is a wannabe writer/comedian with a big personality whether happy, sad, mad, etc. She has the “tough” walk. She does not bend to trends. She does not mind her peach fuzz and if you do that’s your problem, pal. Despite being loud and prone to silliness there’s something warm, stable, and earthy about her which makes her irresistible/adorable/magnetic. She's a wonderful friend. She routinely punches well above her weight romantically. I really liked how she turned out when I was new to the TS4 sculpting system but as her character evolved out of game she needed a change. How do I feel about the new version? I don’t mean to be dramatic but I AM OBSESSED.

(If you look just to the side of her face her hair and then the whole image appears to be moving and it’s making me sick tbh!)

Andy is a smarmy late night talk show host, all fake cheer and a smile that never reaches his eyes unless he’s ramping up the bullshit laughter. In his original sim version, I made him an adult; dropping him down to YA was my first makeover move. We can argue about what’s young, what’s middle aged, etc., but for the purposes of my gameplay and the ridiculously long life span I use, I consider the Young Adult stage to last through age forty (whatever that “is” for a sim) and Andy as a character isn’t quite forty yet, so a YA he gets to be. The rest of his features needed a major overhaul because they are bad; and, Andy is supposed to be a combination of elfish, boyish, and smarmy, and then suddenly you’re like..wait, is he (kind of) cute? And then you shake it off, because he’s obnoxious wtf. I’m a bit sorry to lose his original nose as an isolated feature, mostly because I’ve tried to recreate it for other sims and can't do it despite much time spent trying and even knowing which preset I used. You’d think I only just yanked it up, pulled it here, squeezed it there, but... I don’t know, I don’t know what I did.

Oona, Andy’s wife, is supposed to look like a bit like a Picasso portrait come to life. I didn’t pull this off, and if I say I did, then the first version is a better representation of that descriptor. Let’s compare profiles:

Anyway, the more I look at her the less pleased I am. She might make a reappearance in another round of makeovers with a third version I can better accept.

I stole a ‘50 questions’ meme from @esotheria-sims! I needed an excuse to do something different with myself.

The sim in question is a remake of an old character, Alaskana, who I made for sims 3 awhile ago. Thought I would try another game, another method of revisiting him.

As a note, Alaskana isn’t really a sim - I don’t plan on playing him as such, though I might do it for funsies. This recreation isn’t entirely correct - the hair color is right, but it’s the wrong style, as his hair is shorter than this.

01. How old is your sim? Somewhere between the age of 70 - 120 depending on what stage of development we’re referring to.

02. When is your sim’s birthday? -shrug- Summer

03. What is your sim’s zodiac sign? Cancer.

04. What is your sim’s ethnicity? Al isn’t human, but his ethnicity is - he grew up in a small town that served as a trading gateway between other larger cities. Most of the town’s income was made from travelers briefly using the amenities it provided, or other outsiders. Essentially, a tourism destination. The town is named Pell.

05. Does your sim have any nicknames? I call him ‘Al’, but he’s the type to not be very receptive of nicknames. They make him very uncomfortable because they’re meant to be casual, and he does not do casual well.

06. Do they have a job? He’s a famous doctor.

07. Where does your sim live? In a much larger port city, also known for it’s trade. It doesn’t have a name, RIP me

08. Who does your sim live with? Himself and his adopted ‘daughter’.

09. What environment did your sim grow up in? (strict, loving, cold etc.) I’d say Cold, I guess, but it’s complicated. Pell was/is a racist city - and he was subjected to many/multiple surgeries to alter his appearance at an age he was much to young to consent to and faces chronic pain as a result. This was ‘for his own benefit’ as his more obvious (now removed) features would have put him at less controllable risk. He spent most of his early life as a servant with an ever-changing name for simplicity’s sake. His adoptive dad tho is the nicest, most self-sacrificing guy you’d ever meet, and the man lost his status as a member of a noble house by his insistence on keeping the ‘pet’, essentially losing everything and going to great lengths to make sure he was doing it ‘right’. As Al’s dad was a teacher, Al ended up highly educated himself and was given regular tutoring on pretty much everything. However, he was shortsighted and quite simply wrong to do what he did, and that confusion messed extensively with Al’s ability to determine people’s true alignment, as well as Al’s tendency to be self-secluding.

10. What is your sim’s favourite food? Meat! He raises rabbits, actually, to eat of course. It’s partially because his own race is somewhere between carnivorous/scavenger, and he’s not able to digest anything that’s not meat properly enough to satisfy him well.

11. What is your sim’s favourite drink? Probably coffee actually.

12. If they have one what is your sim’s favourite color? Red. Red! He’s more into patterns than colors tho.

13. Does your sim believe in any clichés? (love at first sight etc.) He thinks cliches are stupid.

14. What is your sim’s sexuality? Bisexual.

15. What is your sim’s gender identity? Male.

16. Is your sim type a or type b? Type C, actually.

17. Is your sim introverted or extroverted? Introverted.

18. What is your sim’s favourite woohoo position? hahaha what

19. Is your sim a pet person? If so what is their favourite animal? Animals are easier to relate to than people, but I never imagine him as actually having pets aside from his rabbits (which he dotes on despite also eating them). They’re too ‘frivolous’ for him.

20. Does your sim have a best friend? No, tho he’s familiar with people from the social units he attends.

21. What is/was your sim’s favourite school subject? Weird Science. The weirder / more mysterious / less grounded it is, the more he likes it. He’d think that theoretical physics are amazing. He tends to spout crazy-sounding theories about things regularly because they’re cool to him.

22. Is/was your sim a high, mid or low achiever in school? High achiever. He’ll still visit museums and the like so he’s not left behind about the latest buzz and he enjoys that a lot.

23. Are they planning to go or have they already been to college? Nope

24. What are your sim’s political beliefs? He’s an isolationist.

25. What is one thing your sim wants to do before they die? He’d like to visit the regions where his race lives - it’s something he has little to no knowledge about.

26. Does your sim have a favourite TV show (cable) and/or movie? hah

27. Is your sim a Netflix viewer? If so what are their top 3 shows. hah

28. Does your sim like books? Yes. He collects them. All sorts of books. Helps one remember things they’d otherwise forget.

29. Does your sim enjoy video games, if so what is their favourite one and do they play on PC or console? Video game? No. Game? Yes. He likes to play silly games with his rabbits. I guess he’d also like quieter games like chess.

30. What is your sim’s personal style? Al dresses very.. stylish. He’ll choose very ‘loud’ outfits. It’s one of his odder personality traits, and it’s the result his obsession over his appearance rather than a conscious decision to stand out.

31. Does your sim have a lucky charm? Nope.

32. Is your sim religious? He has a sense of religion, but calling him religious is a stretch.

33. What kind of music does your sim listen to and who is their favourite artist? He likes music, as long as it’s not vulgar. He will not dance to it and music that makes him want to dance also makes him angry.

34. Is your sim a festive person? If so what’s their favourite holiday? He’s not a festive person, but will quietly appreaciate holidays as they pass, even if it’s a holiday he doesn’t care for.

35. What is your sim’s favourite type of weather? Cold, or Rainy, but ideally both. It’s an excuse to wear a (probably garish) coat, which he enjoys.

36. Does your sim prefer to start fights or finish them? FIGHTS BAD. But if he must, he’d prefer to start it. Losing fights makes you more memorable.

37. Does your sim have a dream job? Not really.

38. Does your sim have any siblings? He has siblings, but he doesn’t know he has siblings.

39. Does your sim get along with their family? His family is dead and gone, has been for a very long time.

40. What is your sim’s favourite hobby? Accomplishing Things.

41. What does your sim look for in a romantic partner? He's aromantic.

42. What is a secret about your sim? He has a lot of secrets. I guess one of them is that he doesn’t have ‘fingers’ - he’s got claws instead.

43. What is a wish your sim has? He wishes he could get comfortable in a place without having to leave behind everything.

44. What is a flaw your sim has? “People Bad”

45. How do others generally perceive your sim? He’s a weirdo and there’s something strange about him, but at least he’s nice. You can go to him if you need help or have a question. It’s hard to tell if he likes you or not, but don’t let it get to you.

46. Does your sim have a greatest achievement? He helped fend off a plague that hit the city by providing medicine and healing to the sick. He hates the attention this gave him in the end, but he doesn’t regret it, and it makes him feel useful for once.

47. If they have one, what is your sim’s greatest regret? Leaving behind Pell, which he still considers home.

48. Does your sim have a favourite emoji? :)

49. Does your sim use simstagram? God no

50. What is the last text your sim sent (and who did they text)? "Text? You mean as in... letters?” Probably something business related.
