still thinking about what @holyshonks was saying about how thel's status as a member of sangheili aristocracy is an important part of shaping his character, cause that is absolutely correct.

those with social power (especially those born into it, and the sangheili absolutely do have bloodlines that they rank higher than others and certain children they expect more of) are more inclined to buy into their society's ideologies for assigning that social power.

thel 'vadamee had every incentive to believe that sangheili leadership was a fair meritocracy, and that the covenant was right and just. it felt good to believe that. it backed up what everyone told him about why he got to be such an important guy.
