the subway was practically full by the time dean managed to squeeze himself into the car. a muttered excuse me passes through his lips as he makes his way into a blank spot. yeah, new york city is great and all but--god damn--it goes from crowded to more crowded depending on the time of day. and he just had to pick this time to leave the library and jump on the connection line to the jersey train. back to the motel. back to seeing new york city in the skyline versus pushing his way through her streets.

it's two stops in when he feels like there's eyes on his back. a puzzled expression and he tosses a glance over his shoulder. doesn't notice anyone who seems like they would be looking at him. til their eyes meet. his breath feels like it gets sucked out of his lungs. it should be illegal to be that beautiful right in the middle of the day. like it's normal to walk through life looking like her. their eyes meet and dean averts his--turns to look ahead. and gather up his thoughts from the slack-jawed expression he felt fall into place the minute she noticed him noticing her.

three stops later and the only spot that clears is the one facing her. with the thinning crowd, he'd look like an idiot still standing next to the guy who keeps mumbling shit to himself. yeah okay. where is his confidence? where is his lack of giving a damn how he looks? dean scrapes it off the floor where his jaw nearly hit earlier and TAKES THE SEAT.

"hi," his voice lacks the nervousness that flutters in his belly--even if he's gotta clear his throat before lips curve into a playful smile--eyes widening as he tosses a thumb over his shoulder, "thought i'd be safer here instead of next to sir mumbles back there." his hand falls back to his lap. "scenery's much better, too." okay, dean. ice broken. now? who freaking knows. to hell with it. he'll figure it out.

theres an unfixed cat wandering around the property :/ hes skittish but not feral and i tried to catch him but my chickens were following me and they scared him off. hopefully he either doesnt come back or i can catch him next time.
