Hmm…. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything with Super Sonic Speed, but I always did intend to write follow-ups…

The city is unbelievably loud. They’re in what Sonic had called a shopping district, and it’s apparently very popular. Knuckles would kind of like to go home, a lot, actually, but Tails is flirting from one shop to another and he doesn’t have it in him to shut the kid down. Sonic is somewhere on the periphery of their little group— he and Tails had bonded, thick as thieves, and Knuckles— well, he tolerated the guy.

Tails gasps like he’s seeing the sun rise for the first time, excited enough that he’s lifting off the ground. Knuckles ambles over, grabs him by the ankle, and pulls him back down. He’s looking at some sort of… thing. Knuckles can’t make heads or tails of it, but it’s definitely saying something to Tails.

Hmm. He is, at least, familiar with the idea of shops. Chao liked to set them up, sometimes, selling fruit or handmade crafts for rings, but Knuckles has no idea if their idea of currency and everyone else’s aligns. Would the shopkeep accept a fruit? Most chao did. It isn’t like rings are a problem, so…

Knuckles turns, seeking out Sonic in the crowd. There he is— stiff as anything, glancing frantically back and forth between Knuckles and some other hedgehog, a pink one. One of his friends, maybe? They look irritated, maybe not. Knuckles steps away from Tails, invites himself into their conversation.

“and you just RAN OFF—“ the hedgehog is shouting. Sonic cracks his mouth open, a faint wheeze escaping.

“Hey,” Knuckles says.

“—do you have ANY IDEA how WORRIED I was—“

This looks like a battle Sonic is better off fighting on his own. Still, Knuckles needs his question answered. “Hey,” he repeats, slightly louder.

“—I mean, I knew you were alright because my cards said so, but—“

“Hey Knuckles,” Sonic manages to crack out, “this is Amy.”

Amy tilts her head at him, and then gives him a sharp, discerning once-over. “Are you one of his other friends?” She asks.

“Yeah, sure,” Knuckles says, and then “do rings work as currency down here?”

She blinks at him, as if this is a weird thing to ask. “Yes?” She says.

“Okay,” Knuckles says, nodding, “try not to scare him too bad.”

Any lingering confusion evaporates, and she whirls around to find Sonic trying to sneak away. “AGAIN!” she shouts, full of conviction, and Knuckles makes his way back to where he left Tails. He isn’t pressed up against the glass anymore, so Knuckles steps into the store. Yeah, there he is. Hovering— literally— over the same display.

Knuckles takes a moment to properly observe, rooting around for the terms Tails would use, in an attempt to ensure he gets the right thing. There’s a looping track, and a few other gadgets on the sides. A switch, one of them looks like, and some barricade, and a few blinking lights. On the track itself is a… sideways cylinder, set on wheels, connected to a few boxes, puffing out smoke— or steam, maybe. Tails is absorbed enough in watching it chug along that he doesn’t even realize Knuckles is standing right next to him. Knuckles’ll just have to make sure he comes up for air, occasionally.

He casts about the rest of the store, vaguely lost. There are a lot of displays, and a lot of colourful boxes. Knuckles picks up one, flips it over, and realizes swiftly he is out of his depth. He brings the box over to Tails, handing it to him. Tails holds onto it for a full few seconds, watching with bated breath as the cylinder switches tracks, before he looks down. His fur all along his spine puffs up, and he turns to look at Knuckles so fast he has to wonder if Sonic hasn’t started to rub off on him in more ways than one. That’s the right box, for sure.

“Really?” Tails asks, voice breathy with excitement, and Knuckles ruffles his fur instinctually.

“‘Course.”

Maybe the shopping district isn’t that bad.

Eddie being killed at the end of S4 is already infuriating, but it’s even worse when you remember there was another gate nearby that should have opened when Fred was Vecna’d. Assuming the gates have to attach themselves to something physically (they’re never shown floating in the air--Patrick’s gate was at the bottom of the lake, not above it where he actually died) there should have been a gate on the ground, on the road where Fred died. That gate easily could have been used as a backup escape route for Eddie or Dustin to use if/when being overwhelmed by the bats. Also the fact that no one thought to make covers for the gates to prevent the bats from getting through was... a choice

It'll be awhile before I can get to Hoth, but I'm not ready for him to meet Saganu face to face. In-game there's nothing emotionally gut-punchy about it, but in this story...Saganu has to look at the prodigal son man who his wife cries for every other night. He'll try to make him see her, of course. Eight will blow him off. Say things like "our lives don't intersect anymore." ' you have burned a hole in her heart. you are hurting her to this day.' "then tell her to stop caring."

It's even colder than Chiss standards. He'll be enraged. He won't show it, of course, because wolves can smell weakness. He'll narrow his eyes at this young man who once sacrificed everything so his wife could get out of the Intelligence trap and escape into his arms and think, what happened to you?

Then Eight will blow a hazy cloud from the pipe his Nosta used to smoke and one piece of the puzzle will click into place. This is not a stranger; this is the part of his wife she left behind, excised from herself with tears and blood, and somehow, it became its own person.

His habits are all the same as hers. It's frightening to watch. He can't tell if he wants to thank him for saving Nosta's life so long ago in the past or shoot him in the leg for being a very-much alive skeleton in the closet who reduces her to tears on account of simply existing.

Saganu has had enough. "Get in," He demands, forceful yet restrained in his diplomat's way, lips pressed tightly together. He motions to the Ascendancy shuttle that lowers its landing dock then and there. Eight stares at him and blows yet another infuriating cloud of smoke that most would find seductive in the long way he takes a drag of it. Saganu knows very well it's an old tactic Nosta used, to draw attention to her lips and their succulent quality, the way they might suck on her intending target. He bristles.

"You are going to see her whether you like it or not, Agent."

Eight regards him in stoic silence, unmoving from the ice wall he's leaned against. "And here I thought we had an understanding."

guys i love Fang so so much. SO so much. 

so, dnd tonight. we managed to save almost everyone from the burning ship!! which is honestly kinda amazing lol, considering just how fucking close it was for some people. but anyways there was this guy down there who was next to death that fang naturally went to help, but the dude’s from around where fang’s people are from & he was like “i know Your Kind, i’m not going to drink your poison” (referring to the health potion fang was trying to give him). and it was a slap in the fucking face for fang, who’s spent his life trying to Not be like his blood relatives. like, fuck dude. it really hurt. 

but Fang. despite the moment of wanting to lash back, he just removed himself & told another person that Yeah, they should still help him, bc it’s not his place to decide for someone to die just bc of a grudge. 

so this dude was saved. and he’s not even going to recognize fang for his mercy. and fang’s not going to fight for that recognition. 

and that’s the thing that’s really making my heart hurt. bc fang tried SO fucking hard to help save as many people as possible (whether they wanted his help or not). he put himself in So much danger for this. and in the end, he’s going to take Zero credit for it. bc he thinks this is just smth that he’s supposed to do.

Barely. #and now i've come up. motioning to everyone It's Time To Go. went to the mayor to help him up and get him moving #and now im moving across the sand with a still very injured & traumatized mayor WITH a risk of other sand sharks around #the party's rogue just got traumatized by finding out her friend was Impostered. who knows where her actual friend is #& she killed said imposter. this being her First Kill. poor girl... #rly hope we can get her attention bc we r gonna have to fuckin Split asap lol #anyways. cradles my boy in my hands. he wants so bad to do good. #THERE was one moment. when the wizard asked if he could have a potion for the dude. where fang hesitated. #like. why give one of his precious few potions to the dude who was willing to die over accepting his help? #but he came to the conclusion. that he does not want to be the type of person this man thinks he is. #so even though the guy doesnt see it (he's passed out by now) fang gives the potion over. #no expectation for recognition. no misguided idea that he's going to get paid back for this at some point. #he just knows that this man will die without his help. and so he will help. regardless of his personal emotions. #DM said he wasnt surprised that fang still helped bc he knows fang is a good person & it just has me like. hhhhhhh #fang. my dear fang. i love him so so so much #he just wants to be a good person. to defy the evil that's expected of him due to the circumstances of his birth. #he refuses to be the same as his kin. he WILL be good. even if it puts him into personal danger. #weeping crying i love my fucking oc so much y'all. i just love him so muchhhhhhh

#type: thoughts #i saw a post about morally gray characters and like #it's a very complex Guy. but from #tav: aria #'s pov it's both less complex and more complex #and im chewing on their dynamic again #she feels responsible for how everything ends. she can't stand him. he's familiar and almost comforting by the end. the silence is deafenin #she tried to kill it. it manipulated and lied to her at every opportunity. she mabipulated and lied back. it held a whole ass person captiv #for an indefinite amount of time. #like this is not a healthy dynamic. but she has so much regret about how things end #AND THEY WERE BOTH BEING MANIPULATED BY THE BRAIN. #<- critical To Her. bc the brain brought them to the end. thru him. so how much of a victim was he. in her mind she drove him back to the #brain in the end out of his own complete lack of options. to the one thing he wanted to escape. and In Her Mind #she did so by Not Being Willing to sacrifice #ch: orpheus #when presented with impossible odds. she looked for alternatives she *tried* #but when #ch: the emperor #is the one she has to sacrifice when facing impossible odds (the wrath of a would-be god vs the wrath of a would-be god) #it's 'i have to'.
