xB’s newest video was wild, and it really got me thinking… (also vague spoilers for that video)

Of all the hermits who are still in hermitcraft, we haven’t seen anyone interact with anyone else. They all think they’re alone. Closest we’ve come to interaction is stealing from each other’s shops, even the shops of hermits who are still there.

In xB’s latest episode, he has been arguably driven insane by loneliness, creating a tiny kerilson to follow him and lead him around various seasons on hermitcraft (and more…)

But if there are still hermits around, why does everyone seem so isolated? and obviously they would probably all think something is up with the rift, so why is xB all alone when he heads to the rift? Shouldn’t everyone be concerned?

This leads me to my main theory: when the hermits entered the rift, the remaining hermits were all sent to their own versions of hermitcraft, alone.

Just like when everyone went to fight the dragon in EVO.

At first, nobody noticed. 

The sculk crept steadily onto the back of his base, out of sight. Sometimes, he found pieces in his hair, but nothing more. (If anything, the King and his court seemed more concerned about his talent for finding legal loopholes.)

No one noticed when he stopped cuffing his pants, when it infected his feet and ankles slowly and he made an effort to hide it. Grian didn’t blame them, of course, everyone was so focused on their bases and the tyranny of the king to notice the little things.

(But still, the sculk climbed slowly up and up. He stopped producing spores for the first time -- his skin had even grown mushrooms during the moon’s rapid approach, during the sleepless nights he had spent researching. This was quite reminiscent of that, he mused, letting his mind wander. Pouring over books about the moon and, recently, about the sculk, refusing to quit until he got an answer or he went mad.) But Grian would manage, he thought. He always had. He just had to not start a resistance, or it would corrupt him completely.

How hard could that possibly be? 

Apparently, more difficult than he originally thought. He held his breath, clenching his fists at the sight of them. Two royal emeralds in his chest at the Entiity, taking the place of his beloved diamonds. The sculk pulsed with rage, begging him.

He lifted off. He couldn’t do this. He had to see Scar. He had to get Scar to kill him, it was the only thing that would keep him tame. 

“Scar, I’m gonna start a resistance.” he repeated, his heart beating out of his chest, before it all went dark. 

Unfortunately, however, when he woke in his bed, he was faced with the consequences of his actions.

How could this happen? No, it wasn’t real, it couldn’t be, he thought, as his reflection mocked him. First the Watchers nearly finding him, and now this? All in one season? His eyes focused on the spot where Scar had shot him, directly in his right eye, but more importantly, the glowing pieces of death surrounding it.

(God, he hated the color blue so much. He couldn’t go back there. He had to hide it.)

And that’s when the whispers began, at the sight of his bandaged eye. Grian was a monster, he was going to start a resistance, he had a sickness. But still he pressed on.

He couldn’t let it get any worse.

I’m thinking about Keralis and Ren in HC9. 

Them finding having a close friend and business partner in the other, camping and host meetings over braai. The nights spent getting Gigalogs ready. And sure as time goes on Keralis see’s Rendog less and less, but that’s just because he lives far away, they still care.

RenTheDog becomes a king yet Keralis and RenTheKing still seem to still have very good relations. The power dynamic is never really brought up. 

So his rule is left untouched, not really talked about. 

Even as coups are planned and nations are made Keralis still finds himself unsure where his place is in all of this, perhaps no place at all..

Ren still remembers the party though. The party that Keralis thought nothing really of it. After all most if not all of the king’s court was there so no one should get punished right?. But then Scar shows up and takes his head, betrayal to one, retaliation for a betrayal to the other. 

The money dries up too, and it’s degreed he’s not allowed to mine anymore. Something he sees right after his mining competition with lovely xBCrafted. What he sees as fake money is diluting the system. 

So Keralis is left making a bitter choice.

He thinks he needs to contact Doc.

A rhyming of history. Another connection the crown has burned.

OK so the image isn’t that important or great but i’ve been really obsessed with the song Birthday Suit by Cosmo Sheldrake and i cannot get the idea out of my head about King Rentheking’s story arc aligning with the lyrics-

(the photo is just like focus because originally i wanted to do little drawings for each of the lyrics sort of animatic style but then i couldn’t finish it in one sitting and i decided i didn’t need to finish it) so instead of doing that, i’m gonna just go through the lyrics and what part/ why i think it aligns with the storyyyy thus far!

“Weighed down by morning, in my birthday suit” - sun rise over the crastle, ren wearing his lil crown and big ol king cloak -> i think the crown and power/ responsibility has been a lot of pressure on ren and i think he is scared and desperate, he’s pulling last ditch efforts to try to live up to what bdubs accidentally(?) cursed him to

“lift up the evening, just for a while” - down in the vault w/ impulse setting up the costume party and secretly leading everyone down there -> it’s almost like accidentally a flex from impulse- he has more power than the king! it seems absurd but bare w/ me; he got everyone to conjugate together, no one actually listens to the king, impulse just gave out the kings diamonds full stop- ya see where i’m going? and some of that is ren’s own fault, like in rens desperation he is further severing his connection with his people

”backwards, upside down, and inside out. so hold on or we’ll all fall down” everyone scattering like that one scene in ratatouille all fleeing in different directions -> they all left cause they know they were doing something they weren’t supposed to and they didn’t want to be get caught. ren is a bit of a tyrant, they knew what would happened if they stayed. the ��hold on or we’ll al fall down’ is so HDJFJJSJFJJS to me because there is something to lose on both sides almost?? like for ren, if he goes too far he’s going to be overthrown so he has to hold on to whatever he can to retain power because he’s lost support and credibility. like he broke the one thing he was hired to fix. but for everyone else, they’re already getting the short straw! they have no money anymore with rens hoarding and the stupid royal emeralds, the laws are getting more and more absurd, like what else are they supposed to do? they have to be strong and fight ren because if they don’t, he’s just going to keep digging himself into a hole and dragging everyone down w/ him.

”oh, heave the oceans too, won’t you?” like just imagine all the billboards proclaiming the laws -> more just an idea of everyone (even rens own team) becoming fed up with his bs. just like ‘oh ofc, we won’t afk or do anything apparently! great!’ just sarcasm hhh

“i’ll keep my ears on” doc chillin in his garden in the perimeter -> i love how doc literally was just like ‘no’ and made his own country- its wonderful and we love him for it <3 but yeah just doc silently overhearing everything happening and being glad he’s not a part of it and doesn’t have to abide by rens laws

“i’ll keep my eyes open” either watcher grian overseeing it all from his lil cave w/ the rift OR ren paranoid and nervously checking behind him -> ren knows he’s gonna be shut down soon, with the soup group and everything, that’s why he’s becoming so desperate. everywhere it seems someone wants his head on a stake

”i’ll keep my legs in sight and wait, ‘til we all fall down” a possible future scenario, ren being beheaded as a formal gesture of his finality -> ‘til we all fall down’ except it’s ren’s head in a basket- i think everyone is just WAITING until ren falls down and no more king!! c’mon we all know how positions of power work on the hermitcraft server smh

alright and that concludes these ramblings of a lunatic!! of you read through that, tysm!! i’ve had these thoughts for a while and i’m glad to have a space to voice ‘em. but genuinely so many props to ren for pulling this off??? like it’s very hard to play the villain and be someone that everyone hates and is wishing for their demise but he does it so well and continues to put in that one of a kind effort and flair that we’ve come to known X) UGH I JUST LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH JEJJFJSJCJJDJFJ OKK BYEEE AND IF YOU EVER WANNA TALK TO ME ABOUT HERMITCRAFT PLS REACH OUT LOL -jeddie

Doc's latest episode made me think about the logistics of harboring refugees in the Perimeter. I envision they would dig their refuges into the walls, after all the perimeter is down to bedrock you can't dig any further, and what if the King send flying tnt duppers to carpet them into oblivion? No, it's better to dig into technically enemy territory than being that exposed. People build little redstone secret doors to cover the entries to the net of little cranies that they all dug together like ants. To an outsider the Perimeter would seem deserted at day and at night it's too shrewd in darkness for anyone from Above to see people gathering, building temporary shops and tables to sit and eat together under the starly sky. Together, united by fear and the community born out of it.

Okay. The Hermitcraft economy reset. On one hand, yeah, I can see that being a good idea. The pillar war created a clear divide between those with diamonds and those without, and re-distributing the wealth more evenly is probably for the better. On the other, though, even if we ignore the incredibly suspicious burning noises, I can’t quite get past Ren building the pit next to Grian’s base without consulting him, and the signs specifically saying “all but 64 diamonds” and then demanding Iskall throw all of his in the pit even though he had less than 64 to begin with. Not to mention Ren immediately throwing Scar down the sundrop after he pointed out that the magenta terracotta blocks, an objectively bad block, was placed by Ren to begin with. And while I agree with Joe when he says monarchs shouldn’t be chosen by gods, I also don’t think they should be chosen by one man. The resounding “uh, yeah sure I guess” to Ren’s coronation also doesn’t fill me with much hope, and especially after not really stating his intentions before the vote, you know there’s going to be a meeting later this week on dethroning him. This is Hermitcraft we’re talking about, after all, the respect they hold for authority is very minimal. 

I am really overthinking this, aren’t I.
