1129 Birthday Jun
Since we've been on a roll with the other figs in this series, let's keep going! Here we have Junjun on his Happy Birthday cake.
The other figs in this series so far have been:
Ice Cream Cutie
Cute Nezha
Huo Yan (I feel like I'm missing a "cute" in this title!)
If you've been following my posts, you already know my extreme weakness for figs on desserts, so this was a must have.
All these figs in this series were before my time, so I've had to buy them all off of Xianyu. The other 3 are commonly sold together, as well as individually, but there's never a lot of these birthday cakes for sale for whatever reason. Maybe it was a smaller run or more expensive, or both. I imagine it would have been a more expensive fig because of all of the detail.
Tumblr media
You can see he arrived extremely tightly wedged in the polystyrene, and his crown in particular is stuck right up there. I've had this happen a few times with figs, and always makes me worry that they'll sustain some damage being pushed into the foam like that. So far no breakage though, so either I've been lucky or the resin is tougher than I give it credit for!
I do cut these out rather than than risk pulling them out. I take a box opener and cut down a line from the bottom of the fig to break the box open. That loosens up the area a lot and I can gently ease them out. I had to be particularly careful of this one because those candles are so delicate, and I couldn't have a clumsy finger snap one off.
Tumblr media
Here he is! It all arrived perfectly after all - crown, candles, candies and all.
Tumblr media
This is the first birthday cake that was done in this style by this maker. It's one piece - he's not removable from the base like the other Happy Birthday Junjun dessert cakes of this style (Cream Mousse and Chocolate Mousse). I don't mind at all that this one is one piece - it's more secure and I don't have to worry about attaching it myself.
Tumblr media
The candles also look like they might be removable, but they are not. I'm guessing when they manufactured the fig, they cast the cake with holes and inserted / glued the candles in by hand. I've seen progress videos of factories making figs, it's kind of incredible all the hand work that goes into the assembly. I'll have to ask a fig maker if they'll let me port over a video or two so I can show you all.
Tumblr media
Based on the number of candles, this is 6-year old Gong Jun! We'll say each candle counts for 5 years to get to his current age.
Tumblr media
I really like these design of all of these cakes she's done. This is one is delightful with the little candies trailing all the way around.
Tumblr media
And his little party hat! Super cute. The soft pastels of this whole fig with the pops of yellow make it colorful yet sweet at the same time.
Tumblr media
And we're back around! He's just adorable.
Tumblr media
This is a nice view of his birthday bouquet and how beautiful it is with the details of his flowers and the pleating on the paper wrapper. We also get a nice angle of his happy laughing eyes and mouth!
Tumblr media
And one last shot from the back from the top. This fig is too cute not to get all the angles!
Tumblr media
Here's the OG birthday cake with the 30th birthday Cream Mousse cake. You can see the original Junjun figure himself is a bit smaller in order to maintain the overall size of the complete fig itself. I love them both!
Tumblr media
I bet you're getting very used to seeing the pic of this box! It really was the same box art for all these figs. I'd be remiss if I didn't have my usual dramatics about the image on the box of the Pokéball Jun fig that I'm still woefully missing (and still completely unable to find the slightest hint of on Xianyu).
Anyway, as you can tell by the list of figs on that box, this is the last one in this series until I am able to track down (and catch!) the elusive Pokéball Jun.
Material: Resin
Fig Count: 254
Scene Count: 18
Rating: We'll be the first ones to wish Gong Jun Happy 31st birthday in advance!

Happy Birthday Junjun - Matcha Macaron
Here we have 4 of 4 of our dessert figs in this set (well, technically 4 of 6, but I don't talk about the Swiss rolls).
This is the one set done by the other fig maker, the one that didn't sell out, but it sure should have. They did a beautiful job on this little guy.
Tumblr media
I will say I had a moment of horror when I opened up this fig box and saw the fig there right up against the base. I tried to steel myself against breakage on the delicate resin, but it turned out I was just being overly nervous (that being said, I have seen horrible pictures of figs shattered into pieces, so I'm not totally off base here).
Tumblr media
He's perfect! And he has wings! I was so relieved the delicate wings were in a protective baggie, but it turns out they are not resin at all, but a shimmery plastic. All the better, if you ask me.
Tumblr media
Here's the underside of the macaron, since you can't see it once he's on top of it.
Tumblr media
Like the rest of the figs, he is removable from the base, so could be taken off and posed in a summery flower garden, for instance.
Tumblr media
Here's his shimmery wings. I wasn't too sure if the wings would stay in, but I added a little bit of Museum Wax to them and they are just fine.
Tumblr media
He fit perfectly right on top of the macaron without any problem. I love his happy and laughing expression!
Tumblr media
The wings are cute, aren't they?
Tumblr media
I kind of want to tie a helium balloon to his cheering outstretched hand and float him around.
Tumblr media
His beautiful wings and a big Happy Birthday. So cute.
Tumblr media
The top view. Hmm, no hole where his fingers are curled up, I'd probably have to tie the balloon to his wrist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our cute box card and the box you've now seen 4 times so far! In the interest of completion.
Well, speaking of completion, if folks want to see the Swiss rolls after all, I feel bad talking about them and not showing them, so I'll just...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aieee NOT my pictures, pictures off Xianyu, I do not own these. I just don't like disembodied things, I just don't! No headless / armless Greek statues for me, and no heads in Swiss rolls for me either.
Plenty of people bought them, I'm sure they're cute (Junjun's face in the lime roll IS super cute) ah I just can't look at them any more.
Tumblr media
Whew, scrolled down. Here's the two macaron birthday figs together. This set wasn't quite as coordinated as the cake set, where the Happy Birthday and the 1129 numbers were on different sides, but that's ok, they still look great.
Tumblr media
And here's everybody! This is definitely a party! Happy (pre) Birthday, Junjun!
Material: Resin (fig and base) and plastic (wings)
Fig Count: 189
Scene Count: 14
Rating: Shēngrì kuàilè, everybody!

Happy Birthday Junjun - Chocolate Mousse
This set of 4 Happy Birthday figs arrived too late to help me celebrate Gong Jun's actual birthday, but they're just too cute not to share. We'll just be the first ones to wish Junjun happy birthday for this November!
I didn't know a lot of things about myself before I joined this fandom, but it turns out that I have a particular weakness for figs on cakes. Sounds odd to type it out like that, but something about putting a cute fig on top of a cute pastry just makes the MUST HAVE trigger fire in my brain. I must not be the only one, because there's more figs on cakes than just this set coming, equally sweet figthusiast, just you wait! (I can barely wait myself!)
This particular set was done as a collaboration between two fig makers - one maker did 3 (they were a little more experienced) and the second one did the last one. They were all sold individually, which was tough because the first three sold out immediately (yes, I had my finger over the buy button as the seconds counted down). The seller released a second pre-order round, which also sold out immediately. If folks weren't fast enough, they might have not been able to get all three, which is a huge bummer when it's all part of a set. The last one did not sell out, perhaps because people were less familiar with the seller, but is not any less cute.
The inspiration for this figure is Gong Jun's endorsement with BEAST for Panda Poo-poo. This advertisement was for a special Qixi set for 2022, and Junjun is wearing this beautiful brown suit:
Tumblr media
Ahh that video refreshed my eyes and my heart.
Tumblr media
All of these figs in this series are resin. He came carefully packaged in a cut out polystyrene box.
Tumblr media
Thank goodness the two little baggies were on top, because I would have been horrified he lost his hand otherwise! I'm always so worried about breakage in handling or delivery, so if I just saw the fig first I would have thought he met with an unlucky accident. I was relieved that he just required some assembling:
Tumblr media
I put a little Museum Wax in the wrist socket and the hand went in perfectly.
Tumblr media
Since the fig and panda and cake are all independent of each other, there's a lot of fun posing options you can do with this set. I've seen this fig show up by himself in cute little fig dioramas posted by fans on Weibo.
Tumblr media
I realized his hand is detachable because you can actually move it up and down, depending on how you want to pose him with the bubble he's blowing.
Tumblr media
His little bare feet are so cute! Very sweet.
Tumblr media
You can see how his hand has a smooth transition, you'd never know it was a separate piece.
Tumblr media
Oops, I got a fuzz hanging out on the icing on his birthday cake. Didn't see that when I was setting up this pic!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ooh you get a preview of the others with the box card art! Nice.
Ah I forgot. There were also a couple other individual birthday fig pastries sold. These two were Gong Jun's head in a Swiss roll, as you can see in the box pics there, but I have a personal aversion to disembodied figures of all kinds (including classical statues, so no offense Junjun), so that was a hard pass. If you're at all curious what those figs ended up looking like (they are something else in 3D, and no they do not make me feel any better) I have some pics from Xianyu I could add to further posts, but really only on request! 😅
Material: Resin
Fig Count: 186
Scene Count: 14
Rating: Bubbly and beautiful (early) happy birthday wishes!
