hi, original book-opinion asking anon here!! i definitely get it muddled too, but i think he felt lonely during tdatt, bc harry and the russos were there for cherry? also—i’m LOVING this book chat rn, bc no one in my life has read the books and i am ITCHING to talk about them. i definitely agree with you about tdatt. cherry was also p outside of my usual reading list, but i liked it! it’s an admittedly weird style, and those sex scenes ... are something else... but i (1/2)

+ (2/3...) appreciated how it’s quite blunt. like nothing is sugarcoated, and it’s all from the protag’s VERY skewed perspective. i love when the protagonist is kind of a shit person, tbh... but bc you’re forced to align with their perspective.. you almost want things to work out for them anyway? that might just be me, but that was how i felt by the end! also the story of nico walker writing it in prison is so interesting to me—there’s a little section at the end explaining that process :)

+ (3/3) LAST PART SORRY: I’m really excited to see how you feel about cherry as you read on, so keep up posted! :) also really interested to see how both of these books will be portrayed on-screen. i’m curious as to whether tom read them, too! (I’m finally done now, promise!)

ooooooh I too am living for the book talk, I love this. my main issue with the sex scenes in Cherry is the fact that I’ve been completely spoilt now by smutfic and so now most erotica I find in books is just....not usually up to par with the stuff you can find on here 😂

I agree about Cherry tho - it is nice to have a version of war that is not romanticised (I'm not onto that part yet but from what I’ve seen it’s been pretty accurate so far???). agree about the protagonist too... I read Catcher in the Rye for English class a few years ago and being forced to view the story through a very specific lens is quite interesting (even if the protag is....not your cup of tea). I’m intrigued by the fact that it is - to an extent - based on Nico’s life? I think ?????? so I will definitely be doing some research into that once I’m finished with the story.

I will let you know what I think when I manage to finish Cherry !!!! I would suspect Tom did not read either of them, but that is just a guess on my part 😂 guy seems prettyyyyy busy, and I don’t think he’s a big fan of reading. but hey. who knows !! if you ever have any more thoughts on either cherry or tdatt pls hit me up because I love this kinda discussion
