Drive It While You Still Can! Dale Mosti’s 1962 Corvette #goDRIVEit

Dale Mosti grew up in the car business. His grandfather, an immigrant from Italy and new entrepreneur in America, started the first and only Buick dealership in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, in 1914. Dale’s father, who worked at the dealership, eventually opened his own local gas station/service station, so Dale inevitably started working on cars at a very young age.

While in high school, the Vietnam War had started, and Dale was drafted into the U.S. Army. For the first time in his life, he wasn’t able to tinker with cars on a weekly basis, but right after he got out of the army in 1967, his mind raced straight back to cars. Specifically, he told his dad he wanted to buy a Corvette. Together, Dale and his father found a 1962 Corvette with only one owner to its history. In July of that year, Dale officially became a Corvette owner.

Dale worked as a mechanic for a local dealership during the week and for his dad at the service station on the weekends, eventually getting married. Dale and his wife, Janet, drove the Corvette everywhere, even to the laundromat to do the weekly wash. Then they started a family and began to use the Corvette less and less—even buying a more practical vehicle. Between being parents, busy work schedules, and taking care of their own aging parents, life just got in the way, and the Corvette came out of the garage less and less. Eventually, it never came out at all.

Because the less you run a car, the more problems it develops.

Fast-forward to 26 years later. Dale finally found the time to rejuvenate his Corvette that had been hidden under a tarp, but he had developed severe arthritis and his vision was becoming problematic. He had always suffered from glaucoma, but it was reaching a new level. After hearing from the eye doctor that he didn’t have many more years of driving vision, he and his family decided it was time to get Dale and the Corvette back on the road again.

After almost being ripped off by a local scammer who told Dale he should just scrap the car because it was “falling apart from rust,” he found a small shop in Linesville, Pennsylvania, called C.A.R.S. He had the Corvette towed there, and two months later, in June 2016, Dale took a ride in his Corvette for the first time in 26 years. He’s been driving it ever since, but his eye troubles have worsened significantly over the past eight months.

Now, he can no longer drive.

Dale doesn’t want to sell the car or let it sit again, so he taught his daughter, Dena Mosti, how to drive the Corvette. Recently, the two of them have been taking it to some local car shows. There is some stiff competition, and Dale never expected to win anything, but was thrilled and honored to receive an award in the GM Class at the Cecil Car Show on August 19, 2018.

Proud of his victory, it’s as if you could hear Dale singing along to one of his favorite songs by Johnny Cash as he and his daughter headed on down the road in the Corvette:

Road race ZR1 getting some upgrades with @peitzperformance and some calibration using @hptuners #repost @peitzperformance ・・・ Okay folks, heres the latest from our Charlie Package R&D on the @thesheelycollection 2019 ZR1! She ended up gaining 120 RWHP, up from 580 stock to 702 SAE on our Mustang dyno. Current Mods include an Innovators West 9% larger lower balancer, long tube headers, thermostat and tune! It is on full E85 but we left timing conservative because this is a road race car and load and temperature are two big factors for the customer. We couldn't be happier with the results! We ended up going more conservative on pulley size with a 4.38 on the @prochargersuperchargers F1A94 to keep blower speed down and efficiency up! Then hit it with a 100 shot of @nitrousexpress awesomness! We ended up churning out a staggering 1061 RWHP on our @mustangdynamometer MD800 AWD dyno! Not too shabby at only 16 to 17 PSI on the top end and 18 degrees of timing on E85! We are staying conservative to make it last! Whats great about this combo is it will make that number repeatedly and not skip a beat! We greatly appreciate everyone's support on this build over the years! QA1 Celebrates 25 Years With Annual Open House and Cruise

Founded in 1993, QA1is celebrating its 25th anniversary throughout 2018. Jim Jordan founded QA1 to provide rod ends and spherical bearings for performance racing, and the vision for QA1 was incorporated into its very name: Quality and Affordability are #1. As the years stacked up QA1 added more manufacturing space to introduce a line of performance shocks, suspension parts, and most recently driveshafts. That manufacturing space now totals more than 83,000 square feet that is jam packed with the most current welding, cutting, and such equipment to create, assemble, and package their full line of products.

QA1 holds an annual open house where customers and enthusiasts from all over are invited for an inside look at how its products are produced. Part of the open house is QA1’s annual #goDRIVEit cruise as well. Held from 7am to 9am, the open house features tours of the facility, prizes varying from small to large, free t-shirts, and a chance to show off your car. Then, attendees cruise the 27 miles up to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds for the Street Machine Nationals, gaining preferred entrance to the show (attendees must be preregistered for the Street Machine Nationals and pick up their registration packet Thursday night).

As part of the 2018 open house celebration QA1 is highlighting its 25th anniversary during its annual open house and #goDRIVEit cruise with extra prizes and activities for attendees. The event will take place July 20, 2018 at their facility in Lakeville, Minnesota. “We have come so far in 25 years, and we want to share our excitement with those who truly embody what we stand for–those people who go out and enjoy their vehicles out on the road,” says Melissa Scoles, QA1 President. “We are excited to offer new activities and bigger prizes at our Open House this year.
