David Nakayama’s Hellfire Gala magazine covers continue to own my soul. The texture of Wanda’s costume here doesn’t quite work for me and I prefer Dauterman’s rendition of her gala design, especially with the emphasis on the chaos/cosmic elements, but still. Anyway, this cover just has me lamenting all over again about how the Avengers office literally isn’t doing anything with her, and her last big story outside of the Darkhold mini was in the X-books so can we just be done with the stupid ‘Wanda and Pietro aren’t mutants’ retcon already and put them back in the X-books? 

The current New Mutants story with Illyana and Maddie would be on another level entirely if you could throw Wanda into the mix there, and she’d be a perfect fit. We know Illyana is looking to start a school for mutant magic on Krakoa with Rictor’s help....again, perfect place for Wanda. Also given that the Arakkii seem to have considerably more experience with magic thanks to their time in Amenth and the references to their alchemists, she’d be really interesting to play off of Ororo in X-Men Red....she’d easily fit into Knights of X and all the Otherworld stuff...Selene was right when she said Krakoa was vulnerable to magic in Immortal X-Men, so that’d be a perfect place to slot Wanda in a kind of advisory capacity.....and you could easily make a case for her being on the main X-Men team, or hell, even Marauders if you wanted to. And Legion of X could even utilize her with everything going on with Ora Serrata and the Godlaw plot....

Literally every single X-book could do interesting things with Wanda right now, sooooo......

sorry but it’s sympathetic reading of agamemnon time, feel free to scroll past this if you don’t want to see agamemnon appreciation, but agamemnon is so interesting because he DOES learn from the lessons of his ancestors and from the cursed history of his house. he looks at his great-grandfather who killed and cooked his own son, his grandfather who betrayed and killed the man who helped him win his wife, and his father who killed his nephews and fed them to his brother (as well as previously killing his other brother), all three of them thoroughly cursed for their actions. and agamemnon takes away from that the message that godcrimes are a serious thing. not something to be trifled with. so he’s very very careful to live his life in keeping with the gods’ rules of right and wrong. when he’s offended artemis, he takes every possible measure to set things right with her, because he knows what happens when a god has it in for a man. he’s so hesitant to tread on the carpet clytemnestra lays out because he’s afraid of appearing over-proud and of offending the gods by rising above his place as a mortal. he makes so many sacrifices and is so careful to avoid getting on the bad side of the gods, any gods, because he knows what a terrible fate it is to have a god hate you. 

and in doing so, he forgets to avoid getting on the bad side of other mortals. he does not consider what it might mean to be on their bad side. in the eyes of the gods he’s done nothing wrong-- it was a god that ordered him to sacrifice iphigenia, and why should the gods concern themselves with petty mortal things like the seizure of briseis or the murder of the trojans? no godcrimes were committed, no godlaws broken, it’s not like it was wife-stealing or kin-slaying or the murder of a guest. slaves and trojans are fair game. by the rules set forth by the gods, he has been pious, afraid to misstep and careful to make amends. he forgets that other mortals may not see his actions the same way. he forgets the mortals have different ideas of right and wrong and that what is right and proper by the laws of the gods may not be so in the eyes of his wife or his comrades.

#this analysis requires a very specific reading and ignoring certain things but whatever #like aeschylus's language around his choice to kill iphigenia is very linked to the army's opinion of him and not as much to artemis #but thats actually not so much a sense of right/wrong as popular/unpopular which i think is different #937-939 though is in pretty direct contradiction to all of this #BUT my sense is thats kind of about the evil eye more than actually what other people think is right or wrong????? #the language of phthonos implies less that people would criticize him and say he shouldnlt have done it #its more just straight up envy which doesnt imply judgement on the action itself #and envy is linked to the gods bc someone who is too enviable/too proud approaches rivalry with the gods and steps out of his place #and i think the anthropeion psogon that clytemnestra mentions is along those lines too #ie people would criticize him for flaunting his wealth/provoking envy in that way NOT for anything wrong with the action #AHA stage the agamemnon with nazars sewn into the carpet #a carpet of eyes........ nice #oresteiablogging #mine

I am sorry that our journey together through this remarkable Spiritual Realm must come to an end. All things in this material world come to an end sooner or later, and I assure you that it is with a feeling of intense regret that I leave you for the time being. All I do claim is that I might perhaps through years of earnest search have received a picture of Spiritual Truth which could not be obtained by anyone who would give less effort to their search than I gave, and yet I am more than ever convinced that Spiritual Law is natural law. I am more than ever convinced that only our ignorance of the great God Realm prevents our making use of the marvelous Spiritual Power this Realm contains.
