gg 1x01 rewatch
the questions are from @pynkhues, you can find them here.
1. What was your favourite scene of the episode? Tell us why!
oooh it’s def the scene where the girls are getting ready to rob fine & frugal. i just find it hilarious that they’re about to rob a store and they’re talking about how their kids are doing in school?? like, what absolute lunatics!! and i think it sets up their dynamic very well right from the beginning, idk. everyone’s always saying that the three girls have a very lived-in chemistry and i agree and i think you can feel it right from this first scene of them together
2. Was there any scene that missed the mark for you? And if so, how?
idk?? i’m very bad at reading and watching things critically, i’m very easy to please, i think?? and this ep just makes me pleased as punch!! but i guess that the scene with beth and amber, while funny, doesn’t really hit the mark for me?? idk, the way she’s framed as a “beautiful dummy” and not as much at fault as dean kind of irks me. i totally get that dean is the married one, but amber clearly knew he was married and somewhat regularly saw his wife, i don’t think she should really be absolved of that. and, idk, i don’t like that she basically got a prize for cheating - like, “here, you helped my husband cheat on me, so take some money to go live your dreams” is such a weird response?? beth was very scathing in the delivery and i get the point was for amber to be out of their lives but, like, still?? why not just tell dean he has to fire her?? this just further proves that beth is an idiot and an absolute lunatic, which we already knew
3. Let’s talk about the Big 6 Character Intros – Beth, Ruby, Annie, Dean, Stan, Rio. What did you think? What did you like? What did you dislike?
oooh i really liked all of them!!!
i absolutely love annie’s, it’s so fun with the car speeding and then with her banter with ben. i love the way they set up their dynamic right from the get go!!
and then ruby and stan’s intro was also amazing!! you get right away that they love each other so much and are so supportive of each other!! the way they both gesture when sara is talking about the women standing next to the men is so cute!!! i love it!!
rio’s is also amazing, he’s a snarky little bitch right from the get go and they really did a great job of also surprising us, thanks to the camera angle, and really driving home that he’s the boss.
i think the one i liked the least is actually beth and dean’s?? i mean, they do a good job of immediately letting you know that beth is the overworked mother and dean is the lazy, good-for-nothing husband - i mean, she’s running around, taking care of everything, and then he just strolls in and asks the kids to go to the car, without even having his tie done. but i think it’s a little misleading and i think it’s one of the reasons why the fandom (including myself) maybe has a harder time accepting beth staying with dean (aside from the fact that dean is a fucking asshole and he deserves nothing less than a horrible death, i mean)?? it really sticks in your mind this contempt she seems to have for him?? and, of course, then you get the flashback to beth getting waxed for him, and so you understand that they were maybe going through a bit of a rough patch but she wanted to work through it, but what sticks in your mind is that first scene, where she’s full of contempt, not even able of saying a perfunctory i love you back. and since they seem to want to drag out the boland marriage as much as possible, i think they kind of failed there.
4.   Ruby tells Stan to fix the damn door! Is Stan an amazing handyman? A terrible one???
i think stan is anywhere from ok to amazing, they’re just so overworked that he hasn’t had time?? idk, paired with the fact that he says he’s pulling a double at the beginning of the ep and that it doesn’t seem to be a new or uncommon thing, it just reads to me like a thing he really does want to take care of at some point but hasn’t found the time to do yet
5. Do you think Beth, Ruby or Annie had a way out of their individual financial situations that didn’t involve crime?
in short: nope. in long:
ruby and stan are desperate. they mention stan’s parents at some point, but i assume they just don’t have the money to help them?? and, i mean, they’re both working double shifts and they mention that they’ve had their gofundme page up for years. i think if they had any other way they absolutely would’ve already taken it, for sara’s sake.
we can assume from the flashbacks we get in 2x08 that annie and beth didn’t have as stable a home life as all that. i assume that either their parents are both now dead or they just have no communication with them. either way, they don’t have them as a safety net.
when it comes to annie, she’s working a minimum wage job, driving a very shitty car and her kid’s laptop has been broken for a month without her being notified, because said kid knows they don’t have the money to get a knew one. she does ask for help from the richest person the girls know later (that’s how i think they phrased?? i’m pretty sure), her ex, who promptly says no. so, yeah, it’s safe to say she doesn’t have a way out of her financial situation either.
and, in regards to beth, i think she would absolutely help ruby (and annie) if she could. so the fact that she doesn’t, paired with the fact that we get mentions later that this is not the first time dean has managed to basically bankrupt the car dealership, makes me assume that either the bolands were living close to paycheck to paycheck, but stable enough that she didn’t worry, or that she did think they had some spare money and did give that to them when she could?? because i don’t see how she would not give ruby the money for sara, if she thought she had it, especially when she does it later in the season.
so, no, i don’t really think any of the girls had safety nets or ways to get out of their financial situation. except for beth. she could’ve gotten a job. i know it would’ve been hard because of her lack of work experience, but she could’ve at least tried instead of immediately jumping to robbery!!
6. Is Beth’s backsplash dope? Or was Rio just being a dick??
both!! i mean, i personally like the backsplash, but rio was absolutely just being an asshole, whether or not he did believe it was dope had nothing to do with it.
7. Five major story locations were set up this episode – Ruby’s house, Beth’s house, Annie’s apartment, as well as Fine & Frugal and Boland Motors. Was there anything that jumped out for you about these locations in this episode? Do you think that they were well established given what happens in each across the course of the series?
ok so i don’t know enough about like tv shows and storylines and all that stuff to answer this, i’m sorry. but, like, i think it’s very cool that fine & frugal is robbed in the first and last episodes of season 1, it’s a fun full-circle type of thing, and i love that we’re introduced to boland motors via dean’s affair and beth’s destruction of it because it’s something that permeates the place throughout the whole time?? i mean, beth later “borrows“ one of the cars, rio smashes the corvette because of beth, it gets raided by the fbi because of beth’s illegal activities - beth is always destroying it, even when she’s not literally destroying something like in that first episode. and in season 2 we have beth fully realising just how deep dean’s betrayal was in the middle of the boland motors showroom. both of those things are always there!! it’s cool. and saying that, i mean, they kind of went the same route with boland bubbles, if you think about it?? we get dean cheating on her there, her fully realising how deep his betrayal is via gayle’s comments and then her clearly robbing the place?? boland bubbles really is just a continuation of boland motors
8. We met lots of supporting characters this episode too – in particular Boomer, Baby Tyler, Amber and Greg. Based off of what we saw of them in this episode, pick one, and tell us what you think!
i love baby tyler and amber!! i love that we’re introduced to baby tyler being all smiley and y’know a little bit ridiculous eating ice cream while on the job and maybe obviously inept because of it. and maybe you expect him to not do anything during the robbery because of that but then he really tries?? he thinks he’s facing off with 3 armed criminals and he really goes for it, he doesn’t cower like boomer!! he’s adorable!! and amber i already talked about and i know i was a bit harsh but i really do love her!! her oblivious comments are gold.
9. Screenshot and/or tell us about your favourite character look~ this episode.
frankly, this ep doesn’t really have any stand out looks for me?? the one exception is annie’s outfit when she picks up ben in the porsche. you can really tell how happy she is that she could one up nancy, that she’s proud of herself because she’s gonna get to give ben the laptop he needs.
10. This episode gives us some sharp character notes on Beth, Ruby and Annie – from Beth’s capacity for violence to Ruby’s visceral anger around being ignored, particularly when it comes to her daughter’s wellbeing, to Annie’s tendency to run a mile when given an inch. Is there a moment that stood out to you, particularly in light of future seasons?
ohhh i mean, there’s something to be said about beth’s capacity for violence uh? she keeps refusing to acknowledge it, because that doesn’t fit her stepford wife without a pulse image as annie calls it, but it’s always there - she’s always ready to blow up and throw some keys at your face. and ruby’s response to being ignored kind of screws her over?? she was very lucky jt only wanted her address for his nephew and didn’t become a second mary pat. idk, i’m sorry. like i said, not very good at critical thinking.

gg 1x06 rewatch
the questions are from @pynkhues, you can find them here.
1. What was your favourite scene of the episode? Tell us why!
beth dumping the money on dean!!! god we need more of that, i miss it. don’t get me wrong, i like that beth is smart and understands that it’s very easy to play dean so long as she pretends to be the dumb little housewife he wants and also that she calls him an idiot behind his back, but i also really enjoy watching dean realise just how dumb he is so yeah, please gimme another scene like this in season 4
(but both of the park scenes are close seconds. rio is just so intrigued/impressed by beth asking for more. she’s so proud of herself when he ups their drop because they delivered!! god, my babies!!!)
2. Was there any scene that missed the mark for you? And if so, how?
no, i don’t think so.
3. Let’s start from the top! How do you think Dean connected with the doctor to get him to lie for him? How did they meet? How much do you hate them both in this scene??
i have no fucking idea. but, knowing dean, while he was googling how to fake cancer he saw an article or something saying this specific doctor had helped someone do that before and just called him up. and, how much i do i hate them?? the limit does not exist!!
4. Beth asking Rio for a bigger drop is the second time in the series where she makes a choice on behalf of all three of the girls – the first being in 1.03 when she leaves Rio her pearls and they end up with Eddie. What do you make of this choice, particularly in knowing that it’s a character note that will continue across the series? And do you think Beth was the quasi leader of the three of them even before crime?
i went back and forth on this, but i think so?? she’s in the unique position of being ruby’s best friend and annie’s older sister, and as much as annie and ruby are friends and do love each other, i think both of them are much more inclined to go along with a plan if beth’s the one who proposes it, instead of ruby/annie. but before crime, being the quasi leader probably meant deciding what stores they were going to go to for black friday and stuff like that, so it probably didn’t chafe as much that she made the decisions.
i mean, i don’t know what to say?? she clearly loves/needs to be in control, it makes sense that’d she become the quasi leader of their little group. i don’t think it’s a bad thing, necessarily, so long as the girls are fine with it. we’ve seen annie particularly chafe under it and i think it’ll continue being a point of contention with them. i think the only way to work that out would be for beth to stop making decisions without them but i don’t think that’ll happen haha
5. A lot of the characters wear amazing coats in this episode!! From Mick to Turner to Annie! Out of all the characters, who wears the BEST coat this episode??
i love annie’s big fluffy one with the fur in the hood!!
6. This episode also features Beth’s very controversial multi-level marketing speech to onboard the secret shoppers! What are your feelings on this technique and the secret shopper scheme?
i mean it’s absolute bollocks but it works, so i understand her deciding to go that route. plus i love how proud of herself she looks. about the scheme itself, i already said that i think the stores were always going to realise what they were doing with the returns and that adding more people to the scheme only accelerated that, but i think not only was it dumb because of that but also because they didn’t set up a system to monitor whether or not these secret shoppers actually did the secret shopping (and also i know there’s no way to guarantee the secret shoppers won’t get robbed like baby tyler was but, like, maybe make sure these people have cars with locks that work, people)
7. What do you think Turner told Dean about Beth?
probably that they found the car and they have an eyewitness that confirms that beth was the one who stole it. and that it seems like she crossed the border with that car and why would she do that?? idk. i’m very bad at this analysing thing haha
8. Ruby’s lies come to a head with Stan for the first time this episode! (It hurts!) Why do you think Stan believed her so quickly at the end of the episode? Do you think he’s gullible, or just never had a reason to doubt Ruby before?
i think it’s exactly that there was never any reason to doubt ruby before - it seems like they really love each other and work through problems together. her not telling him would be an anomaly and i think he’d be willing to believe just that and that there’s no reason why it should impact whether or not he believe his wife when she tells him something. plus, if your wife shows up with a whole bunch of cash that your family desperately needs, you kind of wanna believe her when she says she earned it with her new miraculously high paying job, right??
9. Is Marion calling Boomer a loser her greatest moment on the show?
i mean, her other moments involve things like being casually racist and lying to annie to help boomer, so obviously yes, this is her greatest moment. it’s just a  pity that the bar is on the ground at this point
10. Lastly, we have Rio’s ‘flip your game’ speech! Do you think that Rio was speaking generally or to his specific experience when he talked about going from dime bags to pills to TVs to monopoly money? And what do you think his intent was in telling the girls?
probably specific to him?? i don’t even know what the tv scheme is?? so i have no idea if that’s a common crime career path or not. but also he seemed very smug and like proud of himself, so yeah probably specific?? it’s not like anything he said in there was detailed enough for them to ever snitch or anything so there was probably no reason to lie. his intent was clearly to make them shut up already and impress beth with how good he is at “flipping his game” hahah

gg 1x02 rewatch
the questions are from @pynkhues, you can find them here.
1. What was your favourite scene of the episode? Tell us why!
that scene where ruby and stan are watching sara’s game. i love them so much!!! the look ruby gives him just ends me every time, it’s peak heart eyes. and sara answering back that no, they’re not winning is hilarious!!
2. Was there any scene that missed the mark for you? And if so, how?
no scene really missed the mark, i think?? but there’s some things that i thought were dumb and would like to talk about so i’ll just put them here: the girls should have just sold the collectibles themselves and given the gang the money. i know they didn’t remember for dumb plot related reasons but like... that’s no excuse, it’s stil dumb as hell. also the fact that annie took off her shoes because nancy wanted to keep the house clean and then immedeatly set them down on the dining room table!!!! that is not keeping things clean!!
3. This episode features Beth’s iconic! gamechanging! monologue! Do you think Rio was intending to kill the girls? And if so, at what point in Beth’s speech do you think he changed his mind?
yeah, absolutely, he was going to kill them. there was no reason not to?? i think he changed his mind when she talked about the hashtags?? it was completely dumb but also valid in a way. like, absolutely no one is going to start a hashtag because 3 women were murdered in a random home invasion but like it does bring up the point that at least the police would care about 3 suburban moms (especially when 2 are white) being murdered (way more than they would about someone who looks like him or one of his boys) and that’s more attention than he needs.
one note that doesn’t fit in anywhere else: i think maybe beth took the whole we have children thing she keeps doing from ruby?? ruby says it first when she decides they should ransom boomer and then again immediately when rio’s guys start breaking stuff. i think beth heard that and ran with it hahaha
4. This episode also introduces Marion to us! What do you think of her? And knowing how her story ends in 3.08, what do you think of her arc and her relationships with Boomer and Annie respectively?
uhhh i am conflicted. she’s a lonely old lady, i feel bad for her. but also she’s racist. i wouldn’t really condone robbing her. but also like they thought the options were rob her or die so i think beth should have taken the money. would they have gotten caught? probably, yes. but they would be alive!! but yeah coming back to marion, i really dislike the fact that annie was cool with eating with her and talking about her grandkids while ruby did all the work and then sought out a relationship with her all the while knowing she’s racist and only ended that friendship when marion personally betrayed her. it’s like that line from community, except modified, y’know: i can excuse racism, but i draw the line at lying to me. i don’t like it. and i don’t think they did enough to at least try to explore that side of it?? we got comments from ruby in 1x02 and then 3x08 but not much else, at least not that i remember. idk, i think at best it’s insensitive of annie not to consider that maybe her black best friend wouldn’t like that she’s friends with a racist woman, even if she’s a lonely old lady??
and when it comes to her dynamic with boomer. boomer really does like her and that’s sweet but he’s an asshole who was taking advantage of her and robbing her blind. it’s yet another case of a woman coddling a man. i like that in the end she stopped coddling him and forced him to do the right thing. i don’t really feel much one way or the other i guess?? we explore the mother figure coddles man-child dynamic with judith and dean too so i don’t think the show really loses anything by losing the boomer/marion dynamic.
5. Ruby has her only (so far at least) direct interaction with Rio in this episode! What do you think of that dynamic in this episode, and where would you like to see it go in the future?
first i wanna say that it’s very dumb that he and his boys somehow managed to walk in and sit down without her noticing. and i loved that she was so brave, going up to him. i guess i don’t have much to say?? she still seemed pretty scared of him in 2x10 and i don’t think that’s changed at all in season 3. i’d love to see how they’d interact now?? but i think it’ll probably be more of that. i would love for the girls to reach a point where they realise that he’s not going to murder them, because i’d love to see what kind of whacky, “no drugs up my butt“ type comments ruby would say then lolol
6. How do you think Beth and Annie got Boomer into the treehouse?
obviously magic. or one of them got up there, threw down some ropes, which they tied around his middle and then they pulled him up the slide with their amazing combined upper body strength. i know everyone emphasises that you can’t miss leg day, but beth and annie are all about arm day, clearly
7. This episode seems ambiguous about Greg and Nancy’s roles in Ben’s life up to this point. How long do you think Greg and Nancy have been together, and how close do you think Ben is with them at this point?
i have no idea. they did not explain this at all.  i guess they must have been married for at least like 2.5-3 years now?? because if she’s doing ivf then they must’ve tried before that. enough time needs to have passed since they married that they’d want kids, which i think would be at least like a year, maybe?? and then enough time for them to try and not be able to get pregnant and then do tests and start ivf. so yeah. 2.5-3 years.
edit: realised i didn’t talk about how close ben is with them. so... i have no idea what their custody agreement is like, but i assume annie is the primary caregiver and it’s more of a seeing each other on weekends and vacation type of thing?? either way, ben likes nancy and gregg. like i said, i think they’ve been together a good while so ben is used to nancy at this point, i think. and he probably thinks she’s sweet. because she is. and i think he probably does find annie’s scathing comments somewhat funny but he mostly goes along with it because he knows annie feels lonely without him, is jealous that gregg is much more put-together and has found himself a serious relationship and finds nancy’s comments off-putting and annoying. with season 2 in mind, i really don’t think nancy means anything by them, but i mean, it’s hard not to be annoyed when someone constantly accidentaly implies you’re not clean.
8. Do you think Beth ever went back (or thought about going back) for Dean’s grandmother’s ring?
uhmmm. no. maybe when he asked about it looking all sad and stuff but after that, no. it’s done, there’s no point thinking about it. “you get what you get and you don’t get upset” and all that jazz.
9. What do you think Stan was thinking when he woke up to Ruby making all those lasagnas? What do you think he was thinking when he, Sara and Harry ate so much of it?
i actually don’t think they ate that much of it tbh?? i don’t see them wasting food. and ruby did at least like 6 trays of lasagna. i didn’t count but she had a bunch already made and then was making more so at least 6. i think at most they ate 1 between them. they might’ve given the other trays to neighbours or something i guess?? but i kind of figured it was more like a symbolic thing and that they kept the rest of the trays in the freezer or something. and i think he probably figured she was back to freaking out and not believing that they were winning. you never know what happens, she could get sick or in a car accident or something. because what else could it be?? i mean if there wasn’t a gang wanting to kill them, i feel like the logical reason why you would do that would be if you were freaking out about your own mortality for non-gang related reasons
10. Has Beth ever seen a dick pic before?
maybe?? if annie got an unasked for dick pic i think she totally would show it to beth and ruby and make fun of the guy. but i don’t think she’s ever gotten one.
11. Is Greg still in love with Annie at this point in the series? Or does he fall in love with her again later in the season? Or not at all?
i have a hard time believing that gregg is love with annie at all?? he’s very in love with the idea of her, y’know the cute eyebrows and stuff, but i don’t really buy that he loves her. and like he needs to have been with nancy for years now at this point so if he’s still in love with annie that somehow makes him even more of an asshole in my eyes?? like i know he cheated. but it’s one thing if he cheated and fell back in love with annie (or thinks so, anyway) and then that didn’t workout and his wife has his kid so they decide to try and work through it, but it’s another thing entirely if he decided to marry nancy and start trying to have a kid with her while still (thinking he’s) in love with annie.
12. That! Hook! What do you think made Rio go back to Beth’s house? What do you think made him take a chance on her?
i think he decided to give her chance because she called him an idiot and he was intrigued by that (read, got a boner). and y’know all that stuff she said about p.f. chang’s and orange slices is true. and that is much easier to ignore than a guy who looks like him. and he figured he could take advantage of that and make that particular job a little easier this time.

gg 1x05 rewatch
the questions are from @pynkhues, you can find them here.
1. What was your favourite scene of the episode? Tell us why!
it’s the hospital waiting room scene!! i love the girls and their friendship so much. they’re just... ugh!!! the way they didn’t even hesitate before deciding to give ruby all the money for sara!! i love them!!
2. Was there any scene that missed the mark for you? And if so, how?
i mean the scene of annie flirting with the brian/brad/whetever guy is a little awkward but i think they maybe meant for it to be?? so it didn’t really miss the mark??
3. What do you think Turner’s first impression of Beth and Dean was?
idk if turner knew exactly how much of a “boss bitch” beth is right away, but he was def suspicious that she’s not just a suburban housewife and he didn’t buy her little act. and he knew immediately that dean is stupid because it’s pretty hard not to
4. How do you think Beth and Annie felt about the news that Stan had entered the police academy?
probably worried. i mean if youre committing crimes you don’t want someone you see regularly trying to catch you. but probably mostly worried for how it’d affect ruby?? she’s already having a though time, she definitely has the strictest morals of the three of them and they were probably worried about the extra stress of ruby’s husband now actively working to stop crime
5. Do you think Ben had a nice time in Hawaii with his dad and Nancy?
yeah!! he seems to get along with them, it was probably fun and gave him a chance to get to know nancy a little better, depending on how long she’s been with greg.
6. What do you think of the Cloud 9 scheme? Do you think it was a good idea? That it had longterm potential?
i mean, yes?? i don’t know anything about crime though. but yeah it was never gonna work long term. the shops were always going to catch up to the fact that these people were making so many returns. adding the secret shoppers later probably accelerated that.
7. Is Brian of Shop City Electronics the worst male character on this show? If not, where does he rank on the list of ‘Terrible Men’?
i mean, no. boomer is the worst, then dean. he think he might be tied with the cancer doctor for third, though.
8. “Oh, is his name Rio?” (No question, just share thoughts, haha)
yes beth is his name rio?? how do you know that?? why would you remember that?? is it because you wanna bang him?? don’t worry, you don’t actually have to answer, we all know that’s exactly why you remembered
9. In this episode, Ruby and Stan find Sara’s pills together. Throughout the three seasons, we’ve seen them parent together and apart. How do you feel about the scenes of them parenting as a unit, and how do you think that dynamic shifts when they handle matters separately? (i.e. do you think Stan is a lighter touch without Ruby? Do you think Ruby is without Stan? What’s their dynamic when parenting their children - together or alone?)
if i remember correctly, the times we’ve seen them parent separately it was always on crime things, and on those stan definitely has a lighter touch than ruby. she usually takes it very personally because of her own involvement in crime and how she feels that impacts her morality and her kids (mostly sara), so she tends to be very strict on those. i think on other topics, and when she’s with stan, she’s softer. stan is just a teddy bear man who always goes soft on the kids haha
10. The car scene! Was this the first time either Beth or Rio had entertained the idea that they were attracted to each other? Break it down for us / me!!
rio has been attracted to beth from day one. and he was def entertaining the idea of them when he came over after she left her pearls and during kenny’s birthday party, that’s the only way those looks make sense. i think beth was attracted to him during that warehouse scene in 1x03, but i don’t think she really let herself think about it until he directly brought it up in the car scene. i mean, pretending they had an affair was the obvious answer and i feel like if she didn’t reach it by herself it’s because she was actively avoiding going there

gg 1x04 rewatch
the questions are from @pynkhues, you can find them here.
1. What was your favourite scene of the episode? Tell us why!
idk?? everything’s so good!! either ruby’s speech at the diner or the girls shopping for kenny’s birthday party (i just love that montage of them, they look so happy)
2. Was there any scene that missed the mark for you? And if so, how?
annie and greg during ben’s debate thing, it’s so rude that they’re speeking while their kid is on stage, can’t they wait until it’s another kid??
3. Why (and when) do you think Rio decided to drop Eddie at Beth’s place?
because he wanted to see what beth would do with this new development and because no one’s going to shoot up beaver cleaver’s house. i mean, wasn’t that beth’s whole speech in 1x02?? that when you do that people notice?? hence, people don’t do that, so it was a safe place to leave him.
4. Ruby has a really distinct arc in this episode! From dealing with the Terrible Youths™ to standing up to a Karen and setting herself up to be fired. How did you feel about it in this episode? And how do you feel about it in the context of her broader character arc across the series?
i loved it, i love both the speeches. ruby’s speeches are always amazing!! personally i probably would’ve just sucked it up because i would’ve been terrified. and it frustrates me a little that she couldn’t do that because the hills need the money bad. but i also love that she has too much self respect to do that. i think things would probably be slightly easier for her sometimes if she could suck it up. like, in this episode she wouldn’t have lost her job. but, y’know it was also absolutely necessary with stan. so, good and bad. i think for her, the good probably outweighs the bad. it’s interesting to watch, the best flaws are always the flip side of a strength, which i think this one is, and it’s been interesting to see throughout the show the ways it works as those two things
5. Do you know who else dealt with Terrible Youths™ this episode? Ben! What did you think of his scenes? And how do you feel about Annie using Eddie to defend him?
it was funny!! but also, it’s completely unrealistic that he managed to get in and assault a kid and no adults were around to stop it. i completely get annie not wanting ben to go to catholic school because ben was probably the first lgbt+ kid to ever be accepted by their peers in a catholic school, but also asking a gangbanger to assault a child is not a good solution and would look super bad for her in the custody lawsuit if they decided to bring it into that mess
6. This is the first episode where Rio shows up to Beth’s house alone twice. The first time late at night when Beth calls him about Eddie, the second time during Kenny’s birthday party. Why do you think he ditched his boys this time around?
he probably just figures there’s no need?? they’re sufficiently intimidated by this point. but also because if he shows up alone it’s way more likely that the stacked housewife will decide to bang him
7. On a scale of 1 - 10, how much is Dean the absolute worst in this episode (telling Kenny he can have a birthday party and then throwing it on Beth to do something about it! Interrogating his tiny daughter about his soon-to-be-ex-wife maybe boning the bounce house guy! Getting mad at his soon-to-be-ex-wife about maybe boning the bounce house guy after years of affairs himself! Lying about having cancer!)?
100/10!! i hate him so much. i wish beth had forced him to go back on his word and say no to kenny, i would’ve loved to have dean fail at being the fun parent for once. and god it’s just so infuriating. he spends years cheating on his wife, goes as far as to say that he was tired of her, and then when she kicks him out for those affairs, he has the gall to still behave like he’s owed anything?? and god lying about having cancer!!! like, the financial strain that implies. the slow crawl towards death that their kids would have to watch. he just dumps that on beth, she has to worry about all that now!! he deserves to get shot again for that!!
8. This is the first of two Dean and Stan scenes we get across the entire series! What do you think their relationship is like?
i think stan tolerates him. i think before this whole crime thing beth and him were probably actually friends. and obviously beth and ruby are bffs. so i think he put up with dean’s goofyness because of that. i mean, i refuse to believe our angel man stan actually like the actual devil that is dean
9. Who do you think Boomer thinks Rio is?
he truly has no idea. i mean, he was willing to belive the homegrown terrorist thing for the girls!! i think he has no idea what’s actually going on and just desperately wants for something, anything, to be happening just so he’s justified in his petty revenge
10. We get TWO Iconic Brio™ scenes in this ep – Kenny’s birthday party and the Cloud 9 scene. Which one do you prefer, and why?
kenny’s bday party!! i just love that dress on beth and the way he looks at her. ahhhh so good!!!!

gg 1x03 rewatch
the questions are from @pynkhues, you can find them here.
1. What was your favourite scene of the episode? Tell us why!
the big mike scene!! the comedy is unparalleled
2. Was there any scene that missed the mark for you? And if so, how?
ok so, hear me out, i love the scene of the girls getting drunk after giving rio the fake cash, it’s hilarious and i love that shot of beth after they say they can go back to normal now. truly, this scene is amazing. but only in a vacuum. in the context of the story, i am infuriated every time i remember that annie knew she had a home visit with the social worker and decided to get drunk in the middle of the afternoon before said visit!!!! it’s so fucking dumb and irresponsible!! annie being irresponsible is A Thing, i know, but also i think they took it too far. like, i totally get being late because you had to dump the car and you weren’t counting on it, but also why risk being late or forgetting about the visit by getting drunk?? why not just go home and make sure the apartment is cleaned?? i hate it so much. especially because i love the scene with ben where she says nothing matters more than him and this just doesn’t line up with that.
3. Why do you think Rio decided to trust the girls with the Canada job?
uhmmm, so i’ve seen some people theorise that he didn’t trust them and that it was a test. big mike either truly didn’t know they were coming because he wasn’t rio’s supplier or simply wasn’t warned or he was told by rio told not to hand over the money to them. either way, the purpose of it was to see what they’d do to get out of that situation. and tbh i really like that theory and i think i might agree!! we’ve seen him do stuff like that, i think it totally makes sense. and i mean, he definitely wanted to see what else beth could come up with on the spot, right?? so sending her on that little trip, there was no real way for him to lose - best case scenario, they bring back the money, so rio and his boys didn’t have to waste their time on the trip, and worst case scenario, they get arrested but he doesn’t care what happens to them and they don’t have enough information to snitch so it’s fine.
4. In this episode, we see that Boomer’s been tailing Annie long enough to find them at Boland Motors stealing the car. How long do you think he’d been tailing Annie for at this point? And why do you think he’s so fixated on her?
time isn’t real in this show so i have no idea. just kidding, just kidding, @missmaxime proved time does exist with her timeline posts (which can be found here). i think he started tailing her when they let him go, so a couple of days?? i mean, he has showed up at her apartement before when she’s there, but i don’t think it’s such a wild guess to think someone would be home that late at night, y’know?? and i think he’s fixated on annie because he’s a creepy, disgusting man and she had the gall to reject him and talk back to him.
5. Sheila took credit for the money Ruby had stolen for Sara’s medication! What do you think is the history between Ruby, Stan and Sheila? And with the way this show likes to full circle on older storylines, do you think there’s a chance she might come back?
ruby mentions she’s been after stan since high school so i think probably sheila was expecting stan to ask her out, but instead he asked out ruby, or something along those lines. and, ok i have nothing against sheila coming back, but i also don’t really see a way for them to do it?? or what the point would be?? they kind of came to a stalemate when sheila realised ruby absolutely knew sheila wasn’t the one who gave them the money (and maybe even that ruby was) and there’s really no way around it?? sheila can’t rat out ruby without ratting out herself and neither can ruby. and i don’t really see how they’d get out of that or even what would be the point with trying. idk, sorry
6. Do you think Big Mike was trying to rip Rio off? Or did he just not believe the girls were who they said they were?
i like the thought that rio told him specifically not to give them the money without putting up a fight because he wanted to see what else beth can pull out of her ass, but realistically big mike probably was trying to rip off rio. seems unlikely that he wouldn’t believe who they were, they seemed to have all the instructions right?? and how did they know where to go or who to ask for if they weren’t in on it?? so yeah that’s probably more likely, he figured with the three suburban housewifes he’d get away with ripping him off.
7. On a scale of 1-10, how attracted were Beth and Rio to one another in the warehouse scene?
beth’s efficiency kink is really shining in that scene, 10/10 she would bang rio on top of a pile of his fake money. and rio’s been into her since he laid eyes on her so 10/10 would bang her on top of said pile if she asked
8. Did Annie ever stand a chance with the social worker against Greg and Nancy?
i think so, yes. i’m not from the usa but from what i hear it seems like social services there are big on letting the kids stay with their parents. and ben’s old enough to pick which parent he gets to stay with in my country, so i’ll assume he is too in the usa. i think if annie showed that her apartment is clean, her bills are paid on time, ben is clothed, fed and happy, etc etc, things could’ve worked out for her.
9. Do Ruby and Stan regularly use handcuffs in the bedroom?
oh damn, did not see that question coming. y’know what? yes, they do. unlike beth and dean, they’re still very much in love and sexually attracted to each other, so they probably didn’t spend the last 20 years having only the most vanilla sex on the planet. fully believe handcuffs are a thing they’re into and regularly use.
10. Do you think Rio thought Beth had left him her pearls for a booty call? And more importantly, do you think he gave them back?
yes and no, in that order. that is not the look of a man who thinks he’s about to go into a work meeting, that is the look of a man who thinks he’s about to have fantastic table sex. and he absolutely kept the pearls. they’re in the same box as her panties from the bathroom and the bullets
