#gel polish in london
Text
“Gel manicures are now the most popular beauty treatment in the UK, according to the online booking system Treatwell. Salon chains say that between 70 per cent and 90 per cent of their manicures now involve gels rather than traditional kinds of nail lacquer or false acrylic nails.
Yet dermatologists say they are seeing an “epidemic” of bad reactions to gel. Women have reported nail lifting, brittleness and splitting as well as swollen fingers and infections.
Some people have also suffered eczema, rashes and swelling to the face and body related to using nail gels.”

As a nail technician, Kirsty Connor had a gel manicure every fortnight — and provided the beauty treatment for about 20 others on any given week.
After years of using gel-based polish, however, she noticed that her nails were lifting away and her fingers were itching.
Later, mini blisters appeared on her hands. Her arms and eyes began to swell. When she struggled to breathe, she called an ambulance.
In A&E, Connor, 31, was told that — like many other women seen by emergency staff — she had developed an allergic reaction to the substances commonly found in gel polishes, which help the colour to harden under an ultraviolet lamp.
Gel manicures are now the most popular beauty treatment in the UK, according to the online booking system Treatwell.
Some people have also suffered eczema, rashes and swelling to the face and body related to using nail gels.
After her severe allergic reaction several years ago, Connor, from Beckenham, southeast London, threw away the collection of 300 gel polishes which she had built up over ten years. She now works with natural, non-toxic polishes.
“The doctors at the hospital said it was quite a common problem. I had been using the big high street brands for years and I had never heard of it so I want to raise awareness,” she said.
Gel polishes typically contain methacrylate chemicals, which can be an irritant and cause allergies. The more often people have gel manicures, the higher the chance they will have a bad reaction or even develop a lifelong allergy.
The chemicals enter the skin when the ultraviolet lamps used to harden each layer of gel are not used for long enough or the equipment is poorly maintained. If the gel is not sufficiently “cured” a reaction to the chemicals can occur on the skin around the nails. Simply brushing your nails against your arms or touching your face can produce symptoms in those areas.
Dr Justine Hextall, a consultant dermatologist and fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, said: “The problem is artificial nails and gel manicures have become the norm. People think of these as a basic requirement for grooming, like brushing your hair, when actually nails aren’t built to sustain this much trauma.
“One of the first questions I ask when I see a patient with facial eczema, especially around the eyes, is whether they get their nails done, if they have gel polish and when they last had them done. We’re always touching our faces, so reaction often shows up here.”
The British Association of Dermatologists said allergies and irritation to the nails is “very likely when people apply a product themselves, or if insufficient training has been given to the nail technician”.
Customers are often unaware that their polish has not been applied correctly while those who buy home kits can fail to follow instructions.
Dr Deirdre Buckley, a consultant dermatologist in Bath, said she believes thousands of women around the country could be suffering with nail polish-related allergies.
She recently saw three women in one day with skin problems, all of which could be linked back to their manicures.
Buckley co-authored a 2018 report by the British Association of Dermatologists which warned that gel polish was causing a “contact allergy epidemic” in the UK.
Since then, she said, the condition has become even more prevalent.
In the past five years, 3.5 per cent of her dermatology patients have tested positive for an allergy to methacrylates. The allergy is almost always due to gel polishes, she said.
“It is so common now that we can usually tell what the problem is when a patient walks into the clinic”, Buckley said.
“I see people with a sort of stripy rash on their cheeks and neck or eyelid swelling because of their fingernails touching their face. They will often have thought very very hard about what could be causing it — their cosmetics, their workplace — but not their nails.”
Traumatic onychoschisis, when the nail starts to detach from the nail bed, is one of the more serious related conditions.
Julia Diogo, a London-based manicurist who specialises in natural nail health and gel nails, and whose clients have included the model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, said she had suffered from the condition herself. She has also worked with women who had previous allergic reactions.
Explaining the right way to carry out a manicure, she said: “Each gel polish brand has an exact curing time which should be adhered to; these are often 30 seconds, 60 seconds or 90 seconds. If you are curing a 90-second gel at 30 seconds this is going to cause either an allergic reaction and/or infection. The top layer may seem dry; however, the middle of that gel will still be wet or tacky, meaning it hasn’t been cured correctly.”
Anyone going for a gel manicure should check that their hands are not removed from the salon lamp before the timer has finished its countdown, she said.
Lamps should be tested regularly, and should be the same brand as the polish because they are designed to cure a specific gel.
There is no single qualification required to be a nail technician but professionals often have either a diploma in manicures, which can take as little as three days, or a beauty apprenticeship.
Some will have a BTec or NVQ in beauty. Nail technicians should ideally have also studied for a certificate with the brand of gel they are using, such as OPI or Shellac, which would tell them how to apply that particular formula.

omg I recently went thro my collection as well😭😭 I had so many old ones that were unusable its crazy
choosing a fav brand tho is hard cause it depends on what I'm looking for
if it's a plain colour then there's a local brand where I live called Sacha that has THE MOST OPAQUE polishes ever omg and the colour selection is so pretty (especially the pastels omg they're to die for)
when it comes to glitter polishes colour club is so good (I've been trying to stretch out the life span of the gold holo one I have for so long its on its last leg) sinful colours has some really nice ones as well mainly shimmers tho (there top coat is also really good even tho it's on the thin side it dries quickly and that's good enough for me lol)
sorry I rambled I just really love nail polish and I don't ever get to talk about it 😭 but yh recently I've been getting into gel polishes and I got the brand beetles off of Amazon and it's been working pretty well I really like it
what are your favourites ???
right everyone shits on rimmel london but their creme polishes are GREAT and affordable even if the white needs two coats i get them all the time a lot of drugstore brands tend to be thin and watery but these have a pretty good consistency but my all time favourite brand for wide selection between different formulas finishes and colour ranges is holo taco even if it is a little pricier esp bc i need to get it shipped from the us but they have such a good RANGE of glitter jellies cremes holo mixes toppers chromes metallics etc and like watching cristine create the business and everything she puts into perfecting the formula and using the polishes for her own art genuinely i beleive they’re the best quality nail polishes i own they’re phenomenal

Can we please have an update on your nail routine? :)
I think this was the last time I wrote about them, and not much has changed.
File with a glass file.
Apply cuticle remover (my current favourite is Manucurists') and trim/push back cuticles using metal tools.
Apply a coat of OPI's Chip Skip - I'm still on the same bottle, it really does last a long time.
Apply a base coat, Butter London's Nail Foundation is the best I've found so far.
Apply two thin coats of colour remembering to wrap the edge. My current favourites are Nails Inc's Victoria, Essie's Shearling Darling, Nailberry's Noirberry, and the classic Chanel's Rouge Noir.
Apply a top coat, again, remembering to wrap the edge. I was a very long term user of Seche Vite, but have found the same result with easier application using Chanel's Le Gel Coat and so have switched to that.
Use a thin brush/angled eye liner brush dipped in 100% acetone to clean up the edges.
I do all of the above once a week, and then in the middle of the week a quick repaint: remove polish with Dior's polish remover - I'm not sure if I'll repurchase this, it's a phase I'm going through, I like the packaging, it is nourishing, but is it worth it? I'm not sure - and repeat steps 3 to 7.
I apply cuticle oil and hand cream every night, currently French Girl's Nail & Cuticle Oil and Byredo's Bibliothèque Hand Cream (which they continue to discontinue despite my many and increasingly desperate pleas).

Is It Worth Refurbishing My Alloy Wheels?
Tumblr media
If your alloy wheels are looking a little worse for wear, you may be considering having them refurbished. But is it worth the cost?
We always suggest “yes” is the answer to this question! Here’s why:
Refurbished alloy wheels will be more resistant to further damage and corrosion.
It’s much cheaper to have your wheels refurbished than it is to buy a new set.
You can choose from a wide range of colours and finishes when you have your wheels refurbished, so you can really personalise your car.
Alloy wheel refurbishment is a quick and easy process, so you won’t have to be without your car for long.
If you’re still not convinced, here are a few things to consider when making your decision:
Tumblr media
The Condition of Your Wheels
If your wheels, or wheel, are only lightly scratched or scuffed, then a simple refurbishment will be all that’s needed to make them look new again.
The Cost of Refurbishment
The cost of alloy wheel refurbishment can vary depending on the severity of the damage and the type of finish you want.
Here at JR Alloy Wheel Repair, we fix scratched, scuffed (kerb damage), corroded, and damaged alloys.
Our wheel repair specialists can help you refurbish your car’s damaged wheels in no time repair and refurbish your car wheels, from £50 per wheel.

Offering company lease/personal contract hire vehicle with fantastic car ownership flexibility.
Tumblr media
What is Diamond Cut?
We use a diamond cut process, which is a specialised type of alloy wheel repair that begins with the removal of a very thin layer of the alloy from the surface of the wheel using a lathe. This creates a smooth, level surface that is free of imperfections.
The next step is to polish the surface to create a high-gloss finish. Once the diamond cut process is complete, your wheels will have a like-new appearance that will last for years to come.
What is Powder Coating?
Alloy wheel powder coat is a type of paint that is sprayed on like traditional paint.
However, it does not become activated until the surface has been heated when the current is applied, the gel flows out and covers the entire wheel surface.
With our alloy wheel refurbishment service and alloy wheel repair services available to you, it’s time to get in touch with us and give your car that extra flare you’ve been looking for while enhancing its overall appearance!
To find out more about how we can help, get in touch with us today!

Nightly thoughts.
‘Exhaustion still gets him fairly easy,’ was the first thing that came to mind when Trevor closed his eyes and his exhale was deep and turned into something subconscious. His already lax shoulders turned almost boneless.
Straight to deep sleep. Either he felt good about their activities or it had been some time. ‘Well fucked’ could not yet describe him, but the fine sheen of sweat on his forehead and faint smell of release did at least tell a tale of a few moments of having Trevor under his own spell.
Taking it slow was his own decision. And it did mean he could lay in this trusty old bed Trevor slept in every day and… look down on him. He looked comfortable. Relaxed. His eyebrows signaling no derision. Or doing impossible gymnastics. Made it look good, though.
With a lopsided smile, he pushed his fingertips through the slightly damp strands. No hair gel. Showers worked wonders like that. Thick hair… it did invite to pull, just not… no. He wouldn’t know if it was welcome. Maybe it was, as well as he reacted to the bites.
Being uncertain what he might like felt… odd. This time it was all muddled up with his own desires and he could absolutely not discern what was what. The intense desire to cover his lips, bury his fingers deep into his hair, scraping over his scalp and simply lick into his mouth to see who loses breath or patience first and pull him closer, bite into pale, freckled skin and-
That was his own, right? No vibes, that’s… what he wanted to do, himself. Let his hands move down and grab a handful of ass, squeezing and getting closer, getting rid of the damn fabric, all those damn layers, grab and lick and bite and swallow and finally sink into him in all ways that were available or possible.
His hand twitched just thinking about it and at the same time he could continue lazing in this position and hold this young body in his arms. Carefully dragging his nails over the skin,  breathing in how he smells after almost-sex and a trace of his shower gel.
Opening his eyes again, he had to admit that it was ridiculous. He barely knew a thing about him. Except that his family alone is trouble. Eva Shuang? Really? Why did he have to meddle with that. Not to mention what his ‘family’ might even be. What was he? Demon? Angel?
Watching him sigh and frown in his sleep almost convinced him of the second option. Light pressure on his knitted brows relaxed him again. Except that he cuddled closer. Dave slung his whole arm around him. The sleeping maybe-angel had fine muscle definition, struggles might be intere-
No. Fact was, one had to train regularly to be on Dave’s level and that… was not Trevor. He fit into his arms – and what a nice feeling that was, being able to have him in his arms, burying his nose in his hair.
Maybe-angel. But more likely a demon, no? Not envy. He would have heard from one of Eva’s like this. Maybe pride. Amnael’s subordinate and she protected him for the boss? Pride would… fit. Very much. Even if it could just be… being a teenager. A little later than that, but… well.
He still had punkish tendencies. Purple eyeshadow and black nail polish and obviously gelled back hair. Again, it suited him. So much. He helplessly drew senseless figurines on his back. Maybe he would keep it that way his whole life. No complaints from him, there.
Sure, two things are missing – maybe some foundation as well – but there were still black painted nails. Contrasting the very, very pale skin.
So he really had no clue where he belonged. Originally. Just now he was… here. In London. Living over a pub he worked in. And Dave had no idea what to do with it.
Can’t tell him travel times weren’t an issue, can’t tell him how old he actually was. Thirty three, his ID said. He should remember. Properly remember. Only fifteen years time to do anything of… relevance.
And Trevor barely had five. Which makes the whole thing even weirder. And more important to take it slow.
Music and computers and -flare- bartending, of all things… none of these, he was remotely competent in. He could identify pieces and rhythms in classical music – thankfully it wasn’t the modern variant – and he could work with a PC, but mixing drinks – or food, something he could also do… no chance.
The urge to make him sigh and writhe was there, but… he had a human life and human responsibilities and… he should sleep, shouldn’t he? Rest. And damn, he could rest in his arms. No shoving away, no restlessness because of his presence. Another tick for demon, but… inconclusive. There had been some very, very content angels as well.
He might be able to tell him a few things about gardening. About nutrients and collembolas and their proper care. After all, London – and a roof – are not exactly conclusive to good plant growth. Maybe he was earth-aligned. Would explain how he made tomatoes grow in such an area. His golden – not golden according to him – eyes would support that, too. Not the red in his hair. Or the black. But maybe he dyed it. Entirely possible.
Every few minutes, he needed some willpower not to move up and against him. Maybe taste his skin, hear him gasp, see his eyes flutter open in any emotion and-
No. Rest. And they had no talked about… any of this. How could this have happened. No boundaries known, nothing. So he kept laying still, watched the soft, even breaths.
Trevor wasn’t impressed with money... or apparently status… or community… not proper manners or style. Neither success in the chosen field. Checkered sexual past notwithstanding – of all things, that might have impressed him the most.
He breathed out against Trevor’s hair. They didn’t know each other for long… yet. He supposed. Maybe they needed to have… nights to talk. Talk the whole night through nothing and everything and feel at home. Or be silent together.
It was still very ridiculous. He couldn’t even think about his body in this moment because it would most definitely disturb some peace in this bed. He wanted to be there when he woke up and he wished he could make breakfast, but… ordering was an option, was it not? He had the address memorized by now… but he didn’t even know how he took his coffee in the morning. Or, looking at him, probably his tea. Or eggs. Is there bacon? Can he eat chicken nuggets at all times of the day?
Ice cream was definitely out for the morning.
He didn’t even know that. And he already wanted to keep him that badly. Maybe it was his voice? It… did certainly something to him.
One last time, he let his fingers run over his back and pulled the blanket closer over both of them. It would be fine.
He didn’t need to sleep. But maybe something would calm down. The slightest bit. Before he would kiss him senseless in all places again. Maybe even his roof garden. When he was afraid of heights.
Well, admittedly, he wasn’t the biggest fan either. Only for having a nice overview.
Rest. Just a bit of rest.
Until the next day would be even more ridiculous.

Nail Treatments
Tumblr media
Best salon in Islington
Nail treatments encompass a wide range of beauty and cosmetic procedures designed to improve the health and appearance of your nails. Here are some common nail treatments:
Best Nail treatments in Islington
Manicure: A manicure is a basic nail treatment that involves trimming, shaping, and buffing the nails. It may also include cuticle care and nail polish application. Manicures can be done with natural nails or with the use of artificial nails like acrylics or gels.
Pedicure: Similar to a manicure, a pedicure focuses on the care and grooming of the toenails and feet. It includes trimming, shaping, exfoliating, and moisturizing the feet. Pedicures are often accompanied by nail polish for the toenails.
Nail Polish: Applying nail polish is a simple way to enhance the appearance of your nails. There are various types of nail polish, including regular nail polish, gel polish, and long-lasting formulas. Nail art, like nail designs or nail decals, can also be added for a decorative touch.
Acrylic Nails: Acrylic nails are artificial nails made by applying a combination of liquid acrylic and powdered acrylic to the natural nails. They can be shaped, filed, and painted just like natural nails and are often used to add length and strength.
Gel Nails: Gel nails are another type of artificial nails. They are created by applying a gel-like substance to the natural nails and then curing it under a UV or LED lamp. Gel nails are known for their durability and natural appearance.
Nail Extensions: Nail extensions involve adding length to the natural nails using techniques like acrylics, gels, or fiberglass. These extensions can be customized in terms of length, shape, and design.
Nail Art: Nail art involves decorating the nails with intricate designs, patterns, and embellishments. Nail technicians use techniques like hand-painting, stamping, and using nail stickers to create unique nail art.
Nail Health Treatments: Some nail treatments focus on improving the health of your nails. This may include treatments for brittle nails, damaged nails, or fungal infections. Nail technicians may use strengthening products, moisturizing treatments, or nail hardeners.
Paraffin Wax Treatment: Paraffin wax treatments involve dipping the hands or feet in warm, melted paraffin wax. This helps to moisturize and soften the skin, as well as improve the overall health of the nails.
Nail Removal: When you want to remove artificial nails, nail technicians can provide professional nail removal services. This is important to prevent damage to the natural nails during the removal process.
Remember that while nail treatments can enhance the appearance of your nails, it's essential to practice good nail hygiene and care to maintain healthy nails. Overuse of artificial nails and certain nail treatments can potentially weaken or damage your natural nails if not done correctly or excessively.
Transform your hands with our premier nail treatments in Islington, London. Our expert technicians use top-quality products to create stunning, long-lasting nail art. Book now for a nail experience like no other.

From thumb to pinkie on photo 1:
✅ W7 "Nude" - Used 3 coats of this and there were still slight patches. I do like the subtle pink/purple shimmer in it though so I will keep it for now.
✅ Barry M Coconut Infusion "Tiki Hut" - This looked ok with 1 coat but I used 2 to smooth out more. It dried quickly, I'll be keeping.
✅ Models Own "Nude Beige" - Again this looked ok with 1 coat but I used 2 for the swatch, also dried quite quickly. Keeping this one too.
✅ Painted Polish "Blushing Ballerina" - This took 3 coats to be opaque as it is a bit sheer. It's a textured polish and prettier in real life. I'll be keeping this one.
✅ Barry M Silk "Truffle" - This looked ok with 1 coat but had very slight patches so used 2. It did dry a little slower but the finish is very pretty. Keeping it.
From thumb to pinkie on photo 2:
❌ Color Club "Gold Struck" - This was 2 coats and it is a pretty light gold colour but you can see brushstrokes so easily. I'll be parting with this one.
❌ Beautique London (by B&M) "unnamed pale nude/gold" - This polish had quite an unpleasant smell but it is a very nice colour. It took 2 coats that dried slowly. I'll be getting rid of this one too.
✅ Gosh "Frosted Gold" - This was quite good with 1 coat but I used 2 for the swatch. It's a textured polish with some bigger chunks of glitter in so it's an interesting one. I'll be keeping.
❌ Sally Hansen Miracle Gel "Sleigh All Day" - This was 2 coats that again dried a bit slower. Seeing this polish in the bottle vs on the nail just makes me feel a bit disappointed so I'll unfortunately be parting with this one too.
✅ W7 "Golden Shimmer" - This took 3 coats to be opaque and it did dry quite slowly but I love the red glitters mixed in with it so I'll be keeping it.
Destash total = 3/10

Once the product has been applied, use a blow dryer on a low setting to help set the pattern.
Once your pattern edge control hairstyle is complete, it should last you all day long.
