Road to Berlin’s Episode 12 Is a Spectacular Finish to a Spectacular Show
Tumblr media
It was damn good!
After the slightly tame setup Episode 11 provided, it fell to Episode 12 to deliver the payoff not just to the finale that Episode 10 started, but also to wrap up the overarching story of the entire season. And oh boy, did it do just that!
Tumblr media
First, let’s talk about our favorite looming antagonists with barely any world-building, the Neuroi! Well, they once again upped the creepy factor by replicating World Capital Germania. How they managed to do this is still unclear, as the city never left the planning stage; it truly does seem like the Neuroi don’t just consume for sustenance or whatever, but also that they can replicate whatever they find in the territory they conquer. Of course, none of this matters much to the story at hand, but it does give us a tiny bit of world-building on them, and it would also explain some of the more bizarre Neuroi designs. Do you remember the Cube Neuroi? I do.
I was also intrigued by this former emperor of Karlsland who designed the plans for Germania. Whoever they were, they were forced to step down, but this raises all kinds of questions. When did this happen? How long has Emperor Frederick IV been in power? What does the mere existence of these plans imply about Karlsland’s history?
Tumblr media
By the by, the building that was never in the plans seems to resemble the Great Hall, which was, in fact, shelved due to the start of WW2. Strike Witches occasionally gets some stuff hilariously wrong, but much of the research definitely seems on the money.
See, as far as I know, Nazism doesn’t exist in Karlsland. (Actually, that’d be pretty awkward for Karlsland, with the 501st’s logo being the way it is...) Judea was wiped out by Neuroi in the year 29; this, and several other differences in the world’s history, produced a different world than the one we know. (See the Strike Witches Historical Timeline for more information.) Culturally, Karlsland is far more akin to Imperial Germany, but transplanted into the 1940s and borrowing some iconography and designs.
There WAS tension in Europe before the Neuroi showed up and forced everyone to unite against a common enemy; would that have been enough incentive to create these plans, as well as structures like the Flak Tower? I hope we’ll find out someday. Either way, the fact the Neuroi created such an intricate city-shaped structure based on nothing but plans on paper is pretty terrifying. What else did the overrun countries have lying around when they were invaded?
Right, well, enough about the ancillary stuff. Let’s talk characters!
Tumblr media
And cutting right to the chase: Shizuka definitively earned her spot on the team this episode. Yes, I know she technically earned it in the Movie at the earliest, and I guess Episode 10 at the latest. But Episode 10 still left me a bit wanting, as it was part of the process of building up to Shizuka’s turning point as a character. But now we reached that moment at long last, and it was everything I’d hoped to see.
First, RtB shows us how far she’s come. Her determination is nothing short of epic; she’s grown so much since her first engagement in the Movie, and nowhere is that more obvious than here. She lands a difficult shot on the bomb while flying a Striker her magic can’t handle, to the point where it’s physically hurting her to breathe. And then, she sees Yoshika trapped down below, and she finally passes the point of no return.
Tumblr media
For the entire season, Shizuka’s been utterly obedient when it came to orders. As soon as someone dropped that o-word, she’d stop whatever action she was entertaining and went along with what she was told, even if it didn’t sit entirely well with her at times. She still does that at first, actually. But then, she finally sees something she can’t walk away from, and she decides to risk her own life to protect the girl who always throws herself into danger for others.
She saves Yoshika’s life, and even though she’s definitely not sounding well, she then takes up the fight in her friend’s defense without a single ounce of hesitation. Her switch from defense to offense is almost explosive; no talking, no checking on Yoshika, just straight-up switching on a dime. And her valiant stand is successful!
Tumblr media
Until this happens, and once again I have to commend everyone involved in RtB on the gravity of this scene. Shizuka’s injury is devastating. The cinematography is chilling and incredibly well done: the way the beam punches through the profile shot of her body; how the beam takes all the colors with it as it leaves the screen, monochrome swiftly washing over the scene in its wake, Shizuka already pale; the trails of blood; the dilated eyes. They don’t show her crash, but it sounds awful. And then there’s the blood, positively pouring out of the hole in her body, spilling out until it even reaches Yoshika’s knees, a symbol for Yoshika failing to save her.
As the scene dragged on and Yoshika became increasingly frantic, fear slowly trickled into me again. Strike Witches doesn’t kill characters, but Shizuka was dying for sure. I was still holding on to the hope that everything would turn out okay, but there didn’t seem to be any way out, and that was a gut-punch and a half. It was seriously upsetting, and in a good way: that moment when you realize you do, in fact, care about a character whose presence you’ve questioned for the entire season.
Tumblr media
I’d never been so happy to see a Deus Ex Yoshika hit the screen.
Now, I'm not the biggest fan of Yoshika. I do like her as a concept: the pacifist medic thrown into war. But I still feel like Yoshika’s character leans too much on her desire to protect people. It worked well at first, especially when her new companions needed someone to give them hope, but while quite a few characters showed growth as time went on, Yoshika’s always remained relatively static. And RtB’s excellent character writing has only emphasized this for me.
That’s not to say she hasn’t grown into a badass though, because she has! This episode had her at her craziest yet, leveraging the power of her grief to jump-start her magic back to normal levels. And with the fine magic control she’s been forced to work on all season, she can finally let loose and do some incredible things!
Tumblr media
A giant shield? Try more than one! Who needs a gun when you can use your magic as a battering ram? (Trude would be so proud!) And sure, just pump so much power into your Striker that you overtake the escaping Bell-type Neuroi holding Wolf! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Yoshika attained her final form of hax, and it was glorious.
Still, it was clear that battle, short as it was, took a toll on her. This means she’s not exactly all-powerful; it just so happens that she has some very powerful genes, and the right motivation to use them.
Anyway, it was to be expected that Yoshika and Shizuka would hog the spotlight for a bit in this final episode, and that’s all good. The others mostly filled their usual roles, but we did get some great character moments from them!
Tumblr media
Let’s start with something adorable: Minna using Sanya as a portable telephone, and Sanya being entirely stoic about it. I was laughing so much, and even more so when Eila saw it happen!
Tumblr media
“GYAAH!”
I also liked it when Eila and Sanya were so surprised at seeing so many Neuroi swarms that Sanya said this absolutely needless thing:
Tumblr media
You know the shit’s hit the fan when Sanya, of all people, does this.
Oh, and let’s not forget: it was Eila and Sanya who finished off the dome! I’m not sure why everyone else decided to just fly off, but these two have their backs.
Tumblr media
Shirley and Lucchini were a solid team. I liked how each of their personalities shone through in their mannerisms and dialogue, with Shirley being calm, perceptive and responsible, as well as looking out for Lucchini. She also made a good guess at Wolf’s hiding place.
Lucchini, meanwhile, was her adorable hyper self, chafing at the narrow tunnels which prevented her from bouncing around, and later, gleefully taking out one Neuroi tower, only to realize she was shooting at the wrong thing, and being utterly unconcerned as she switched targets. Nyroom! She’s such a playful kid.
I also really liked it when Wolf was running away, and Lucchini immediately looked to Shirley to chase it, but Shirley realized she couldn’t catch it from that distance. She’s come to understand her limits over the course of the series, which pairs well with her increased sense of responsibility in RtB.
Tumblr media
Lynne and Perrine were once again the support squad, looking out for Shizuka and later on being quite attuned to anything regarding Yoshika. Unfortunately, they didn’t do much else of note, but that’s been a bit of a pattern for them since Episode 8. Either way, I’ll save my thoughts on that for the full season review. (Yes, I’m going to rant about the season in its entirety next. No one is surprised.)
Tumblr media
Erica mostly fell into the same support role as Lynne and Perrine this episode, but she did make the highly useful observation of the anomaly in Germania: the big central building that hadn’t been in the plans. And of course, she was one of the determined Karlslander Witches who chased Wolf at the end, limits be damned.
Tumblr media
Hey, while we’re on this pic: I’m pretty sure Mio has spent more time with Ursula than with Minna this season. How crazy is that?!
Mio was also here. I’m sad that we didn’t get a Mio Laugh, not even one at the end. I did enjoy how concerned she was about Shizuka’s well-being though; Mio is like Trude in that she’s quite married to her job (she’s even worse about that than Trude), and so her personal feelings can sometimes end up left behind. But she was still doing everything she could to help her friends, and she was genuinely terrified when she realized Shizuka was about to do something dangerous.
Tumblr media
Before I forget, I even have to give a slight nod to Patton. He was good in this episode! Even though he loaded up his revolver, he never actually ended up using it; instead, he was a good supporting character. Even his “GODDAMU” was endearing!
Tumblr media
Last but certainly not least, Minna and Trude were, again, excellent. I really loved how they worked together this episode: forming a united front when they told Shizuka she had to stay behind (like two parents telling their new kid to do what’s best for her, ha), and Minna using her reasoning and magic to navigate them through the tunnels while Trude smashed stuff.
Ah yes, Trude. Lovely, lovely Trude. When I wrote about Episode 11, I expressed bewilderment at her sudden suggestion of using the underground tunnels. How did she come by this information? Why did Minna not know? But Episode 12 had my back; Erica asked her about it almost immediately, and as it turned out, Trude had the most adorable reason of all time OMG:
Tumblr media
All is forgiven, show. All is forgiven. The fact Trude learned everything about a subway system in a city Chris never even lived in, just to engage with her sister’s interests, is so downright cute and awesome that my love for her has once again increased to previously unimaginable levels. And she memorized it all so damn well that she planned out an entire route into the dome for them! This is the best thing ever!
Tumblr media
I was also so, so happy for Minna at the end! In previous seasons, it was always Yoshika who dealt the final blow to their antagonist, but here, Yoshika only prevented Wolf from running away. It was Trude and Erica who pierced its defenses, and it was Minna who went in for the kill. Not only is this amazingly cathartic for her, it’s also something Minna 100% earned in this season. Episode 9 did so well in showing us how badly Minna wanted this, to secure victory for her girls and for herself, to the point where she disregarded her own views on self-sacrifice. And now here she was, maybe in the last sortie of her career, and she received the sweetest reward of all.
...Except the promised coffee in Berlin, which we never got! But that’s okay; this episode already did so much in its runtime, I can’t fault it for not showing us something that would take some time to happen.
Tumblr media
Instead, we got something equally satisfying, and something I loved about the ending: it showed us everyone working hard to rebuild Berlin after the battle. RtB has been so good at details, at continuity and consequences, and here, we see that life moves on. Berlin is in ruins, and it’s going to take a lot of elbow grease to get it and the rest of northern Karlsland back into shape. But with people returning and the 501st doing everything they can to help, reconstruction will surely succeed.
Tumblr media
And Perrine will one day conquer the world with her army of adopted children!
Life also moved on in a different way. As it turned out (or maybe I just forgot about this?), Wolf was one of two hives in Karlsland. The other one is located somewhere in the south, and thus, the 501st continues their battle for peace. I wonder if this means we’ll get more 501st content down the line? It hasn’t been ruled out, and it’d be amazing to see where these girls go next. (I demand more coffee scenes!)

The Sea Princesses Iceberg (800th Post Special)
Technically, this would be the 800th post if it weren’t for a certain thing that happened earlier this week, but hey, I guess the 900th post special will just take a little longer to arrive.
After Sea Princesses was finally made available online in 2018, I’ve been seeing a renaissance in Sea Princesses content. Not to toot my own horn, but I’m not ashamed to admit that I contributed to this renaissance or, as I would later discover, that I was the one who made it happen. Amidst all the mediocre artworks and content, there were a few gems among them, such as the amazing fanarts by Rainbow’s Network (others have made great drawings as well but they’ll never trump hers unless they draw ALL the princes and princesses including the three unnamed background characters, Caton, Veto, Caramelo and Marcela), my Kisekae Insights instalments covering the involvement of Sea Princesses in my personal project, or even a YouTuber named MJZD Gaming who made a separate channel dedicated to Sea Princesses content and has started a reaction series to the Princesas do Mar books using my scans. I’m not kidding, it actually happened. The only thing I’m waiting for is a continuation of that (3 months on and I’m still waiting lol).
So anyway, a different YouTuber named Liamasterink did a video on the Sea Princesses Iceberg using the image of the iceberg from the episode The Big Chill (which is titled El Gran Iceberg in the Latin American Spanish dub) and it got me wanting to respond to some of the points he made and give my own take on a Sea Princesses Iceberg. Here is his video:
youtube
This is Liam’s iceberg, which he completely gets wrong because that’s not how you do icebergs:
Tumblr media
And this is my translation of it. As you can see, Liam split his iceberg into four topics instead.
Tumblr media
So anyway, let’s get into my analysis. Now, because the video uses text-to-speech and the background music in the video is prominent, I had to use Google Translate’s auto-transcription because the video doesn’t have it enabled (of all the videos, it had to be this one). As such, I’m going off quite a bit of guesswork and I can’t guarantee that I’ll get anything right.
Aspects of the series
So this section covers the basic stuff like that this series was broadcast on Discovery Kids (in Brazil and Latin America), it was based on the books written by Fabio Yabu and that each episode is about 10 minutes long. Animation and dubbing errors are also mentioned here; the respective errors are detailed in each episode’s page on the wiki. Funnily enough, dubbing errors like Polvina and Ester’s voice swap towards the end of Lost are reflected in the Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish dubs, but the Castilian Spanish dub took note of that and actually dubbed the scene correctly, so kudos to them.
When Liam covers Polvina here, he mentions that her design is inspired by Stephanie from LazyTown. I fail to see the resemblance - disregarding the discrepancy in creation dates, Polvina’s design was originally red until it was changed to pink for the animated series.
In regards to “possible cancellation” - this is merely a mythical rumour based on misinformation. Brazil and Latin America got the series the year after Australia, that is true, however Latin Americans seem to think that the series was cancelled because it finished airing in November 2013. I heavily doubt that it is true. Only two seasons of the series were produced and by November 2013, they were probably rerunning the series for like the 50th time. So no, the series was not cancelled - Discovery Kids probably decided to pull it in favour of some newer show. Considering how there wasn’t much good-quality Sea Princesses content back then, you guys weren’t alone in the content drought, but then some of you guys may have had DVDs or merchandise, so you guys had it lucky compared to me over in Australia. Sea Princesses got pulled from the ABC after September 2016 and they never reran it again. I thought the series was going to be lost forever until the English episodes were posted on YouTube in 2018.
The “nonsensical censorship” covered is actually the Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish dubs cutting out things for no reason, which is why those versions of the episodes are 1-2 minutes shorter than those of the English or Castilian Spanish dubs. If you watch those versions of the episodes and follow along on the English transcripts I have provided on the wiki, you can tell where the cuts are and what was cut. I wanted to document all the cuts in each episode since I managed to get the first season of the Brazilian Portuguese dub (I don’t know when the second season will be made available), but I gave up halfway into the first episode because the cuts got so ridiculous I couldn’t take it anymore.
The only reason why Discovery Kids would have these scenes cut is because they need to make time for their ad breaks. How long are their ad breaks anyway? Channel 7 in Australia managed to fit two episodes into a half-hour timeslot with ads, and it’s not like the “deleted scenes” are in the DVDs either. I don’t know how deep the rabbit hole goes with this, but there is no justification for this “nonsensical censorship” because there is nothing that needs to be censored. In a series with short episodes, all that these cuts are censoring is potentially important context for the story. If you live in South America and you want to relive your childhood memories, then the Brazilian Portuguese or Latin American Spanish dubs should be enough for you. But if you really want to analyse the series or know just as much as I do about it, then you should watch the English or Castilian Spanish dubs, particularly the English one as I have come to realise that that is the actual original dub and not the Brazilian Portuguese dub as I initially thought.
Also, while watching the Brazilian Portuguese dub, I realised that they used the English names for Elektra, Juli and Jessi (but they did use Elektra’s original name, Eletropaula, in Shooting Star). God, this really is a dub.
About the characters
Liam seems to agree with my opinion that Veto from Big Brother is a redundant character - he only appears in that one episode and he isn’t even mentioned again afterwards, plus Marcello already serves as an older brother figure to Tubarina. He also mentions that Delfi only appeared in the animated series and that the “animal hats” they are wearing are their crowns, adding that some people might think that they are wearing dead animals on their head. Boy, that’d be harrowing.
When Caton is brought up, Liam describes him as a misogynist who treats others badly. To be honest, I can’t really say that about him for sure because he only appeared in one 10-minute episode, but even from what little we see of him, it can be inferred that he is an asshole (but then why does he appear in Lunch Power as a background character talking to Marli and a couple of other girls in separate scenes?).
Then we get to Marcela and Liam states that she is probably a filler character because the writers didn’t want to make Marcello Tubarina’s only cousin. No, that’s not how it was. Marcela may have been written as Tubarina’s cousin in the books, but she never had any appearances in them (bar a background appearance in the first book, The World of Salacia). My guess is that when Flamma Films met with Southern Star and discussed how they would do the series, someone suggested that they should have some male characters making regular appearances as the “antagonists” of the series and that one of the main characters should have a sibling rivalry thing going of them. Whether Fabio or another executive producer made the decision is unknown, but I presume that’s the point where Marcela was changed to be Marcello. It’s a shame that basically nobody, not even hardcore fans of the series (by pre-2018 standards) know about Marcela. Although it would have made the story a little bit complicated, I would have liked to see Tubarina being the “middle child”, with Marcello and Marcela living with her and her parents, just so we could see the dynamics and chemistry between them.
The topic of Marcello’s parents comes up next and Liam believes that the Shark King adopted Marcello and let him live in the Shark Palace. It’s probably a good theory, but I don’t buy it personally. Come to think of it, why don’t we see the Hammerhead Shark King and Queen in the series?
Liam also says that the adult males in the series have dots for eyes whereas every female character has defined eyes along with the princes. Weird, huh?
This next point on the censorship of Marli confuses me because he seems to single out Marli for some reason. I know Marli is your favourite character, Liam, but why single her out specifically? Like I mentioned before, the Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish episodes are 1-2 minutes shorter than the English and Castilian Spanish episodes. Also, on another note, Liam, I don’t get why Marli would be your favourite character given that she’s such a bitch, but I’m sure you have your reasons.
After that, Liam poses a theory that the clownfish twins, Juli and Jessi, are lesbians based on a scene in The Twins where they (simultaneously) kiss Tubarina towards the end. It’s quite amusing for him to think that, but I don’t think that was really the intention. Juli and Jessi kissed Tubarina as a thank you because when she made them fight so that she could win the flower show (that she still could have participated in if she hadn’t sacrificed her best flower in remorse), it made them realise that they are still as together as they are when they aren’t fighting (basically it means they act the exact same way, which is a common cliché of twins in media). Could they be lesbians? Maybe, but again, we can’t really infer that just from one scene that could be taken out of context.
About the community
The first thing that Liam asks in this section is, “Is the series for girls?” While the series may have been designed and marketed that way, the truth is that it is for anyone who is interested, which can be said for everything else. With recent developments in technology and streaming, shows marketed towards a specific audience can also be targeted amongst a wider audience. We’ve seen this with the brony phenomenon a decade ago with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Besides, the fact that people like me and Liam are talking about this series both answers and completely defeats the point of the question.
While briefly going through the El Chavo del Ocho references, Liam states that Carlos Villagrán, who played Quico (the character who inspired Duante’s design), is a politician in Brazil running for governor. No, that is not exactly true. At the start of 2021, Villagrán registered with the Querétaro Independiente party as a pre-candidate to be the governor of Querétaro, Mexico, but the party ended up choosing someone else as their candidate, so Villagrán decided to retire from politics.
On the topic of fandom, Liam brings up the topic of fanfictions and brings up the Brazilian fanfiction site Spirit Fanfiction. I’ve never brought them up until now because, well, they are fanfictions, but of note, there are two fanfiction works of note that I want to point out, one being a Death Note parody and another where Ester meets a Drylander and some really messed-up things happen. On Fanfiction.net, user Rabbid Girl wrote three fanfiction works featuring OCs. That’s all well and good if you know Portuguese, but if you only know English, then you can’t go past my Kisekae Insights instalments. It might be mixed up with things like Dynasty Warriors, Doctor Who and Kamen Rider, but look, four whole instalments covering stories written over a decade. Nobody else can beat that because I’ve been keeping the spirit of the series alive all this time.
I don’t understand why this was covered here instead of in the last two sections, but Liam does agree with how Elektra was miscast in The Mural because she was meant to be a good friend of the girls. As I said in my review for that episode, Marli would have been a better choice for Elektra in that episode given her rivalry with Ester and her bitchy attitude, plus on top of that, we can swap out Bad Vibrations as well because that episode wasn’t as good. Elektra could have replaced Angelica in Polvina the Teacher given her hyperactivity (as stated in the official sources) while in addition, Angelica could have replaced Ester in The Dancing Princess (Ester, in turn, would replace Leia who was in the audience with Polvina).
Liam then brings up Rule 34 and says that it’s just sexy fanart and nothing more. To be honest, what did you really expect from such a niche series? For a time, futanari works (from one artist) dominated the tag until some guy came through with new stuff. Also, Boneless (now Fire Conejo) did a fanart of Marcello carrying Tubarina and in it, Tubarina’s hair was black and as such, I assumed that it was until people noticed Isa’s Gift and noticed that her hair was blonde (I still think it’s black imo). I haven’t been able to post an SFW version to show you all because he deleted it from DeviantArt and all we have left is the NSFW version. It would be easy to say “don’t lewd the Sea Princesses”, but obviously I can’t stop anyone despite this, so if anyone is interested in making fanart, Rule 34 or otherwise, I would highly suggest drawing the characters “aged-up” to at least legal age or their 20′s as that is the age the characters were in the later stages of my personal project and I’m quite interested in seeing what they would look like if they were older (plus it’s a bit less contentious especially if you’re doing NSFW art). But hey, I’m not going to stifle anyone’s artistic freedom just because I don’t like something. If I don’t like it, I’ll just move on.
Oddities in the series
In the topic regarding Polvina’s redesign, I think Liam mentioned an oyster tutu for her book design because he commented it on MJZD’s reaction to the books. Unfortunately, this is a misinterpreted term that came about because he didn’t bother to even use my transcripts or Google Translate in order to get an idea of the story. Allow me to explain. In Chapter 3 of The World of Salacia, a nervous Polvina sees a shark coming towards everyone, but it is revealed to be Tubarina’s carriage. Polvina stutters for a bit before she yells and in between, Ester makes a comment thinking that Polvina was talking about something else. In the original Portuguese raws, she says “tutu de ostra” (oyster tutu) but in the English translation, I changed it to “shrimp skirt”. It’s just a throwaway comment that has very little bearing on anything else. In both the books and the animated series, Polvina wears the same skirt shaped like the tentacles of an octopus, it’s just that it’s red in the books (matched with red heart-shaped pasties) and pink in the animated series (matched with a pink tube top/bandeau). In summary, it’s not an oyster tutu. Liam, I don’t know if you or MJZD Gaming will read this, but if you do, then I hope this clears things up.
Also, I never really noticed that the Octopus King and Queen were red even though Polvina’s attire was changed to pink, but I can sort of understand why they didn’t change their designs because it would look kind of weird. Plus, red and pink tones are incorporated into the design of the Octopus Kingdom and the Octopus Palace (even in the books), so I never really noticed the difference anyway.
Liam raises the possibility of a third season and notes that it probably won’t happen, which is another thing that sadly I agree with. Flamma had no further interest in producing any more episodes of the series after the second season and Fabio Yabu parted ways from them in 2009 in order to work on other projects, but if you ask me, he probably lost interest and decided to move on given that he didn’t really do anything new for it in the next decade. I mean look at his Instagram. When he was flexing his animations on the Mental Canvas app, he only did them for his Ziraldo tribute books and Combo Rangers. It just goes to show how much he cared for the series over the years where aside from publishing the books on Amazon Kindle, it gets a mention on Twitter every few years. Although, Yabu still deserves some credit for acknowledging that it exists, particularly as I’ve seen him leave compliments on other people’s art when they tag him in them.
I don’t like to speculate on personal things, but aside from having certain aspects of writing and production being placed out of his control, I suspect that there may have been an internal conflict in Flamma (possibly with its other founder, Reynaldo Marchezini) that led to Yabu leaving. In a #Mermay post he made on Instagram in May 2018, he stated, “I had the years of life I gave, even the years that were stolen by someone I trusted, and all that's left after that was for me to start over. But that's a story for another day.” It’s such a shame that there was so much untapped potential and missed opportunities in the series, but in the end, things are what they are.
Liam touches on how Salacians eat foods normally found on Dryland (yet doesn’t bring up how harrowing it is for them to eat fish) and the incest subplot between Tubarina and Marcello in Shark Love and The True Princess. I don’t know if the producers knew about it, but the only reason they did him was that he was the only boy around anyway, plus it’s not like they were actually going to go through with it.
On the topics of sexism, masculinity and feminism, Liam states that it’s usually the princesses who are out helping sea creatures while the boys rarely do anything other than tease the girls, play pranks or whatever. Even for an asshole character like Marcello, they managed to slip in a few episodes of him interacting with (hammerhead) sharks, but the girls had to be involved due to various reasons. Sirilo barely did anything to help the situation in Homeless when crabs swarm the Octopus Palace and in The Spidercrabs, the girls had to help him deal with the spidercrabs (and before you say that Sirilo managed to hold onto the rope on his own in the end, he probably would have never thought of that without the girls giving him that idea). Marcello and Sirilo ended up being the only male characters in the series who interacted with or helped their respective species. It’s not so surprising given that this series is marketed toward girls, but if I were to write the series, I would have given the boys some fairer representation and autonomy over their actions.
The final topics that Liam covers are about parents comparing this to the controversial 2020 French movie Cuties and pedophiles somehow finding this series, but then he never covers these topics in detail, instead just talking about how a minority of parents viewed the series that way, possibly due to their character designs. I’ve never really heard of any complaints about the series and its character designs, but then again the series was never popular enough in Australia for anyone to complain about it. Concerns about this were probably the main reason why Polvina’s design was changed in the animated series (I know Yabu may have mentioned the word bikini in one of the main series books, but it doesn’t count unless he draws it, so it’s still pasties). Personally, I don’t think the character designs (barring Polvina’s book design) are problematic, but discussion in recent years about the sexualisation of children (not helped at all by the existence of Cuties) leads me to dread what people today might think if they saw characters aged 6-8 in bikinis or swimsuits. I can only hope that the designs are good enough not to be jailbait by their standards.
I also want to add that adults who watch this series (with their children or for nostalgic value or whatever) are NOT pedophiles and anyone who unironically believes this is retarded.
And finally, Liam talks about his fanmovie idea as a potential sequel. Hey, if he can shill his own fanfiction on an opinion video, why can’t I? Be sure to check out the Kisekae Insights instalments I made for Sea Princesses.
My take on the iceberg
Tumblr media
Heading says it all. I won’t repeat anything I’ve already stated in this post and most of the things on there have been elaborated in other posts regarding Sea Princesses, but I’ll still explain a few things quickly.
As you can see, the tiers of the iceberg are sorted by what (I think) fans will know as they dig deeper and find things like the books or my posts. See, Liam? That is how you do the iceberg meme.
Tier 1:
Polvina, Ester and Tubarina are obviously the main focus characters in the animated series while Marcello and Hugo are secondary focus characters, but most of the other characters have three or less focus episodes. Conversely, in the books, the girls are obviously the main characters, but one or two other characters will also get a focus while a number of others will get a line or passing mention.
Character development in the animated series is minuscule despite the constant focuses on Polvina, Ester, Tubarina, Marcello and Hugo. Characterisation is shallow as well because the characters in the animated series don’t seem to match the descriptions in the official sources. The books do character development better.
The international factor refers to how the animated series was a co-production between Southern Star in Australia, Flamma Films in Brazil and Neptuno Films in Spain.
Episodes with stupid plots include The Argument and Best Friends, while episodes with rehashed plots include The Matchmaker/Shark Love, The Mural/What’s Cooking and The Dingleberry Mystery/The Guilty.
Despite being “royal families”, the characters in the series act more like ordinary Drylanders, but if they lived in the sea. No emphasis is placed in the “royal” aspect in the animated series because the Salacian royal families live and act like ordinary Drylander families. Butlers are mentioned in the books and the kings are shown doing their diplomatic duties, but the princes and princesses still act like common Salacians.
There are quite a few missed opportunities in the animated series due to the lack of focus put on characters, which you can read in my reviews of the animated series. Plus there’s the Barracuda Kingdom saga that never went anywhere.
Tier 2:
In terms of background characters, you have Agostinha who doesn’t have a focus episode, let alone a line; “Goldina” and “Flourison” who are unnamed without any lines; and Matilda and “Jaune” who only get one or two lines (not to mention unnamed on top of that for “Jaune”). In the books, Agostinha gets a few lines, but Matilda, “Jaune” and “Goldina” aren’t named nor do they have any lines. Marcela got a character description, but she didn’t get any lines, nor was she mentioned or seen after a background shot in the first book. Caramelo was probably the only background character who didn’t entirely get screwed over; despite only being mentioned in the first book with no appearance or character description in the official sources, he gets a focus episode in The Pirates.
One topic that I didn’t include here, but would fit into this tier, is Dinho, the forgotten Blowfish Prince. He got a character description, but never ended up appearing in the series proper.
Then we have the Princesas do Mar websites, with the Flash site lasting from 2004 to 2017 and the Wordpress site lasting from 2009 to 2015. Honestly, given that they were both hosted on UOL, I’m surprised the Flash site lasted longer. Relating to both this and the last point, I should also point out that Marcello, Hugo, Bia, Delfi, Dinho and “Flourison” were created for the animated series because I haven’t seen signs of them in the first two books or the Flash site.
Mismatched characterisation is where one character is written like another. Ester is the biggest victim of this because in many episodes she’s probably just as bitchy as Tubarina; even in The Accident, Tubarina becomes the voice of reason between Polvina and Ester. Then there’s Elektra being written like Marli in The Mural, as I mentioned before.
I can’t remember why I put “episode pairing” there. I think it’s because each half-hour episode is actually two 12-minute episodes that can be broadcast together or separately.
Casual fans will know the First Law of Salacia, but real fans know that there are actually five Laws of Salacia. No joke, I didn’t know the Second Law existed until I translated Isa’s Gift, the Third or Fourth laws until I saw a snapshot of a page from The World of Salacia, then the Fifth Law until I actually brought the book (because the snapshot was from an old edition that had it missing).
Speaking of Isa’s Gift, this and Mothers and Daughters are short stories that were available online since the days of the Flash site. Though archives are still available, it’s a good thing that I translated them when I did because other people wouldn’t have known about them otherwise. I think the main reason why I was happy to see them available was because it gave a bit of an insight into what the characters would be like in the books. It wasn’t much, but it was certainly a good starting point because we got to see the rivalry between Tubarina and Maurico along with the origin of Isa’s Santa hat.
Tier 3:
So far, very few people seem to know that the books are available online thanks to my hard work during lockdown in 2020. Aside from Liam, MJZD Gaming and their friends, I’ve had a Brazilian fan send me a message thanking me for reviewing the books and maybe a couple of other fans liking my reviews. I think I’m the only non-Brazilian fan to actually have the books (bar one) so barring reflections, I have legitimate bragging rights, not that anyone would really care anyway.
The only “dark” episode in the animated series is probably The Forbidden Reef in the second season. In regards to the short stories, Isa’s Gift is a bit dark because of Isa’s fear of not being able to breathe without her Santa hat. The main series books have a darker theme to them in general.
The main shipping possibilities I have would be Marcello with Elektra, Ester or Socita and Polvina with the Drylander boy from The Boy. That isn’t to say that a ship between Ester and Marli would be impossible, though.
Aside from the El Chavo del Ocho references in Sea Princesses, there’s also the Combo Rangers in The Pirates (along with the three Green Lanterns that I wouldn’t have spotted until it was pointed out to me).
Tier 4:
If anyone wants to read about my journey to keep the series alive, check out this blog post from the wiki. If you want to learn about the history of the series, check out this page.
As for wiki vandals, they are all in the first link, though in summary, there was a guy who assumed that the series was broadcast in the UK when he had no proof of it, an anon who edited the pages and changed them to German (this was some time after I became admin on the wiki and thus was not covered in the blog post) and the guy from the feud back in 2017 who called me a pedophile for having an interest in the series and being too much of a pussy to expose me back or refute my criticisms on a public platform. That last guy came back again two years later even though the feud was long over by then, which shows you just how much of a butthurt gaijin retard he was.
My point on “problematic character designs” goes back to Liam’s point about parents comparing this series to Cuties and pedophiles finding this series. In turn, it also ties in to my thoughts regarding a continuation, reboot or revival of the series. This is something that I’ve wanted to address for a while now, but hesitated because I could never find the right time to do so. In short, would I like to see a continuation, reboot or revival of the series? My answer is both yes and no.
On one hand, I would like to see a continuation of the series with more focus and development on the characters (particularly those that have not received a lot of focus episodes) along with more serialised stories. On the other hand, however, I fear that there will be backlash for the “sexualised” character designs, given that they are canonically 6-8 years old (though aging them up and focusing the series for an older audience could mitigate this problem), or backlash over a potential reboot not being as good as the original (because for some reason, history has apparently dictated that 3D CGI reboots of 2D series will be terrible).
Now, personally, I’m not actually saying that I wouldn’t like to see a revival of the series; in fact, I actually don’t care if it doesn’t get a revival, because realistically, I don’t think it’s going to happen, let alone any time soon. Yabu left Flamma Films in 2009 and nobody else who could have done better than Southern Star has picked up the series since then. Before 2020, I would be grateful if Yabu published the Princesas do Mar books as PDFs or ebooks, but now that he has, I would be grateful if he fixed the mistakes in his ebooks and released English translations of the main series books and the remaining two literacy series books (I know I've translated the books myself, I just want to see how he does with the translation, compare it to mine and maybe support Yabu however I can).
By the way, if anyone wants to know why the Mr Bean and Friends channel hasn’t posted the rest of the second season past The Mural, I think I can explain why. Apparently, in October 2018, the Banijay Group was in talks to acquire Endemol Shine from Disney and Apollo. The deal was approved a year later and the purchase and merger were completed in July 2020, meaning that Endemol Shine are now the subsidiaries of Banijay and the rights to Sea Princesses are now with them (like Flamma and Neptuno are doing anything with their rights to the series in Brazil, Latin America and Spain anyway). What I can’t understand is why the Mr Bean and Friends channel stopped when its sister channels, Totes Amaze and Puddle Jumper, continued posting videos for another year, let alone stopping after that. I guess it was a good thing that I downloaded the Amazon raws when I did (because I can’t find them again now lol).
This is never going to be the last time I talk about Sea Princesses even though I say it will be the last time, will it? Anyway, thanks for getting through this dreck of a post and feel free to follow me and my content to see what other kinds of crazy stuff I’ll talk about in the future. Oh, by the way, I’ve had this drafted since October and since then, Liam has released a Part 2 of the Sea Princesses Iceberg, which I’ll probably get to eventually if only to react on it.

TV Review: The Flash (Spoilers)
Tumblr media
Season 5, Episode 9: Elseworlds - Part 1
Spoiler Warning: I am posting this review the day the episode becomes available to stream online so if you haven’t seen it yet or are waiting for the entire crossover to air before watching then don’t read on until you have done that.
Overview:
Tumblr media
I cannot tell you how much I got a kick out of this episode. I have not done any TV reviews for a while because of my university commitments but I did partially review Crisis on Earth-X last year and wanted to review this crossover because of what is promised but also because it’s the big superhero event on the small screen. I love an elseworlds story in any genre and show/movie that I watch, I love it when they do parallel worlds and alternate realities, I love it when they have dream worlds and any situation or story where the characters we know and love are portrayed differently. This wasn’t exactly that, but it was still so good. I loved the comedy, the Easter Eggs, the callbacks to previous seasons and the change in dynamic, but also I LOVED the new additions to the Arrowverse and will be talking about them down below.
Freaky Sunday:
So I was going to call this a Freaky Friday before thinking it would be funnier to say Freaky Monday but then realized this episode would have aired yesterday so am calling it a Freaky Sunday. Anyway the movie I am parodying is referenced by Barry because of the situation that he and Oliver find themselves in at the start of this episode.
At the very start of this episode we have that same clip that played at the end of Supergirl, Arrow and The Flash last week, so this is now the fourth time I saw it, which shows John Wesley Shipp’s Flash who he portrayed nearly 30 years ago struggling over a warzone of Easter-Eggs, I mean dead heroes, and speeding away from a weird man with a destiny changing book. This man is called The Monitor and I will talk about him when he is focused on more.
Tumblr media
Fortunately this isn’t all of the opening scene otherwise I would have been very annoyed and the rest is Oliver waking up in Barry’s bed with Barry’s wife Iris calling him for breakfast. Oliver is now Barry Allen and has his life including speed, wife, friends and most likely job. The interesting thing is even though this an obvious re-written reality, the same storylines that have been happening in all seasons are still going on. So Oliver has just got out of prison, joined the SCPD as a vigilante and now finds himself as Barry Allen the Scarlet Speedster of Central City. It was funny watching him grasp this realization and to be fair to Stephen Amell he does allow himself to have some much needed fun this episode after all the doom and gloom he has been through this season.
However, because he’s new to the speedster game, he almost screws up in thwarting a robbery attack on Ivo Laboratories. Whether or not this new reality created Ivo Laboratories in Central City or not isn’t confirmed but this is a place that has never been mentioned in previous episodes.
Tumblr media
Regardless, despite giving the wrong vigilante line before stopping the bad guys, he does stop them with an impressive trick shot of his lightning throw. How he knew how to do that without guidance is a mystery but I digress. Also for any comic-book fan that knows Ivo is a reference to Professor Anthony Ivo, they’ll know the robot Oliver’s lightning bolt accidentally hits.
But then we arrive at S.T.A.R. Labs, which has not changed, and Oliver is scanned for abnormalities I’m presuming because his takedown of the bad guys was unlike Barry’s normal quality, yet to all the brilliant minds in that room, as well as Iris and Ralph, no one can deduce that Oliver is not Barry. Oliver and Barry are the only two on their Earth that seem to not have had their memories affected by this altered reality...so naturally Oliver goes to find Barry to try and make sense of the situation.
We then cut to Star City and Barry seems to have woken up in the middle of a sparring match with Diggle at ARGUS. I have to say, I am slightly confused about John’s position at ARGUS, I know Lyla is the director but does that make John the Deputy or Acting Director as Lyla never really seems to be there?
Anyway, Dig thinks Barry is Oliver and Barry knows he is Barry but when he discovers his body has been changed by this altered reality due to his tattoos, he too suspects something is up. However there isn’t time to contemplate this fully like Oliver did because he is told to suit up as Green Arrow is needed on an ARGUS mission...Green Arrow who was almost arrested last week for being an active vigilante before joining the police force as their agent is suddenly allowed to join ARGUS in a mission...logic!
Tumblr media
As with Oliver, Barry takes to his new vigilante fighting skills rather well, possibly because the basis of vigilantism is training in fighting and coordination, but after subduing the threat he and Diggle are sped away by Oliver. Diggle throwing up after speeding is still funny but just seems like it is in there as a cheap Easter Egg.
Somehow ditching Diggle, Oliver and Barry go to the disused Arrowcave which made a return last week and while Oliver has his serious face on trying to understand their current predicament, Barry is weightlifting up that old bar pole that my sister used to get a kick out of every time Oliver used it...Barry has used that pole before and with super speed so has done it better than how he is doing it now so why he was so happy with it I don’t know.
Tumblr media
I did like how Oliver was trying to get Barry to be serious because it is very telling of the tone the two shows have. Arrow has always been rather dark and like a Batman story whereas The Flash has always been more like a Marvel Movie or Superman pre-DCEU. However on this point I have to say I was on Oliver’s side because the situation is these two are currently not themselves and Oliver wants his life back, funnily enough after Oliver lets slip he woke up with Iris that morning Barry gets his serious face on.
Tumblr media
This early mid-section of the episode is where I lose a lot of respect for Team Flash because they know of the multiverse, time travel and Flashpoint yet they don’t quite grasp the fact that maybe something happened to change reality so that Barry is now Oliver and Oliver is now Barry...none of them, you have a biochemist, a mechanical engineer, two detectives and a journalist yet no one has the perception to even conceive that what two people they know rather well is telling them is a possibility?
Also, when this is all over and fixed and Oliver is Oliver and Barry is Barry, Iris needs to sit down with Oliver and talk out their differences because I did not know Iris had this much dislike for Oliver. I can’t even call it dislike because she must like him on some level, I mean she openly admitted to fancying either him as Oliver or the Green Arrow during the Invasion! crossover but here, because of what has happened to Oliver recently, she cannot seem to get her head around loving Barry as Oliver because the Oliver she knows who in actual reality is at this point her Barry is a man of pain and vengeance. I do like how this is picked up with the two guys later but I’m getting ahead of myself. Iris needs to sort herself out.
Because of Iris distrusting this situation she drugs the man she supposedly loves while Ralph knocks out the man he believes is Oliver and they are locked in a cell in the Pipeline. I love the fact that because they’re not really catching Metahumans of the week anymore these crossovers are really the only time we see the inside of these cells.
I love how Barry and Oliver interact in this episode and the prison scene is one of my favourites because they have to play to each-other’s strengths due to the fact they have each-other’s abilities. Barry dislocating his thumb was hilarious not just because of how it looked but also because Oliver was so blahzay in telling him to do it just like it was a walk in the park. “Just break your thumb, your body has been conditioned by Anatoly in this reality so you can do it”. Also Oliver’s reaction to actually seeing a broken thumb was slightly bizarre because surely he would have seen his own thumb before. Oliver phasing through the door was slightly overkill because he hasn’t found the breaks on his speed yet, also why was everyone so confused by phasing in this episode? It’s a cool power to have, it can get you out of prison cells, or stop a plane from crashing into buildings. One thing I didn’t understand is Barry said the cell was designed to dampen powers so how was Oliver able to phase?
Anyway regardless of continuity errors they escape and plan to use the only interdimensional extrapolater they have left, despite Sherloque breaking it I’m guessing they fixed it, to go to Earth Thirty-Eight to get Kara’s help. Iris apparently predicts this and beats them to getting the extrapolater...incase anyone isn’t paying attention I don’t like Iris in this episode, I don’t know why but something about her just seems off.
Barry however finally manages to get through to his wife by recalling a memory only they would know and finishing it off by calling her his lightning rod, which he told Oliver to call her and he called stupid, and agree I agree with him. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for sentiment but I never understood the lightning rod metaphor. I guess it’s how lightning conducts to the rod as an analogy for how Barry would always return to Iris but it just never sat right with me. It does with Iris though and she gives Barry the extrapolater and they go to Earth-38.
I laughed with joy at this moment and this scene because entering Earth-38 the episode has Remy Zero’s “Save Me”, also known as the Smallville theme song playing over it. Anyone who keeps up to date with behind the scenes gossip knows they were using the Kent Farm from Smallville as the Kent Farm for Earth-38′s Smallville but with the theme song playing and I think even the tractor is the same. Although on Riverdale last week they also used the Kent Farm in another capacity so maybe the CW, which broadcasts all the DC shows and Riverdale like that set, I know I do. It’s such a feel-good nostalgia trip seeing it. Also that song, I just love it!
Tumblr media
We are reacquanted with Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent and, despite not appearing in Season 3 of Supergirl he did easily slide back into the role. I mentioned in my first reaction to seeing Tyler Hoechlin as Superman that I was won over by the acting and look just the choices taken by costuming threw me. Here we see more of Clark Kent then we do Superman and for me it works. However my biggest issue right now is if they are trying to make out as if this Superman is the same one we saw the origin story for during Smallville played there by Tom Welling. With the theme song playing and the same farm being used it does seem that way. I would be very happy if ti wasn’t as that would obviously mean this Supergirl is the same that Laura Vandervoot portrayed and her Kara was more evolved as a superhero than this Kara.
Tumblr media
Also, we meet this Earth’s Lois Lane, portrayed by Elizabeth Tulloch. I like her as Lois Lane, I think she has the same level of drive and bite as Erica Durance and Teri Hatcher did in the role and isn’t as wet and dull as Amy Adams. Interestingly enough when it comes to Superman mythos, the small screen seems to get right what the movies get wrong.
Tumblr media
Kara is visiting her cousin after being fired from the D.E.O. and is debating whether or not she should have revealed her identity to Clark looking I guess for justification in her decision, Clark obviously tells her she did the right thing because secret identities are there to keep loved ones safe and that is obviously the right thing to do.
Tumblr media
Barry and Oliver arrive giving Lois a fright but it seems whatever alternate reality was put in place only affected Earth-1 because Kara still knows them as themselves. Barry and Oliver are formally introduced to Superman at both are a little bit starstruck but handle it in different ways fitting their characters.
Tumblr media
Then when it comes to Barry and Oliver training as each other, Barry has to target practice while Oliver runs at him being a moving target.
Tumblr media
The only issue with this setup is while is it is done to make an excellent callback to when Oliver trained Barry, Oliver still thinks he is training Barry here and gets very offended when Barry doesn’t take playing him seriously.
Tumblr media
Lois is great in this scene as the impartial spectator and calls it how she sees it calling Oliver a dick. Hilarious.
Barry and Oliver then have a heart-to-heart and discover that in order to be each-other they need to embody what makes each other work as vigilantes, Barry is very light-hearted and positive whereas Oliver is very grounded and serious. So for Barry to be the Green Arrow effectively he needs to be grounded and serious while Oliver being The Flash needs to be upbeat. As I said before I love the meta referencing of how the two shows and characters are so different from each other yet exist in the same space, then Kara comes along who is a bit of both, it’s the trinity right here. DC’s original Trinity of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman has been made DOA thanks to the movies so the small-screen has a new trinity of Green Arrow, Flash and Supergirl.
Tumblr media
Cisco arrives and tells the group that they need to come back to stop A.M.A.Z.O. and both Kara and Clark tag along for the ride, with Cisco finally meeting Superman.
Ambushing A.M.A.Z.O:
Tumblr media
Back on Earth-1 and sure enough A.M.A.Z.O. makes his debut as these crossover events need badly CG’d robots in them. A.M.A.Z.O. as his comic-book counterpart does, is a robot who mimics powers so as he battles he just gets stronger. Here this is done through displaying symbols of each person mimicked on his chest...the only issue with this is while I understand Killer Frost’s symbol I do not get Vibe’s.
After having their asses handed to them, Cisco decides they need Oliver and Barry, but Iris says she let them go due to believing their story and Cisco goes along with it going to Earth-38 to get them. Whether or not the extrapolator knew where Kara was and so ported Oliver and Barry there is one thing but how did Cisco know where they were? I guess he vibed them but it is never shown.
Tumblr media
After returning with Barry, Oliver, Kara and Clark what follows is an amazing battle and it’s only the first part of the crossover. Okay yes the CG on A.M.A.Z.O. is shoddy but so was the CG on Red Tornado and Metallo last year, here the focus is really on Barry and Oliver working as Green Arrow and Flash respectively.
Tumblr media
They figure out a plan that includes the Super-Cousins as they are used essentially as battering rams to hold A.M.A.Z.O. in place, I am just thrilled to finally see at least 2 members of the original Justice League working side-by-side, I know Martian Manhunter is coming up most likely in the Supergirl part so I cannot wait for that.
Tumblr media
Team Flash acquire a virus that would destroy A.M.A.Z.O. because turning him off manually has been made impossible. In order to install the virus, Barry had to shoot the virus at A.M.A.Z.O. but to make sure he couldn’t phase it through, Oliver had to counteract his phasing. So you had Barry waiting for the right shot while the other three held him in place. They succeed and, after a familiar line from the Green Arrow, A.M.A.Z.O. is no more.
Future Repercussions:
Tumblr media
This part got me excited, this was Iris, coming round to the idea that Barry is actually Barry, and warning him not to turn into Oliver. Again the girl has some sort of issue with Oliver being dark and miserable all the time and while Barry is playing Green Arrow for the moment, doesn’t want him to become Oliver.
This got me thinking, what if the events of this crossover have a lasting effect on the future of the Arrowverse? What if by learning how to be each other’s vigilante personas, both Barry and Oliver are changed when they return to their respective personas? I would love this crossover to make that possible as I feel it would make both series’ more compelling going forward.
Preluding the Bat:
Tumblr media
So at the end of the episode, Cisco mentions a scattered vibe he had earlier in the episode of this mysterious figure who we know as The Monitor. Again I won’t go into much detail here because we are not given much as is but the vibe shows him with this lecturer John Deagan who he gave this all powerful reality writing book to and caused the events of this crossover.
Tumblr media
While no one else really knows who the men are, Oliver spotted a key fact as to where they are, a Wayne Enterprises building...tomorrow’s Part 2 episode will bring about Gotham City and more importantly Batwoman who is seen atop a rooftop from a far distance but it is definitely her. I cannot wait!
Easter-Eggs:
So many Easter-Eggs and this is only episode 1. We see a barrage of dead heroes in that opening scene, these include Captain Cold, either Jesse Quick or Speedy, Hawkman and Hawkgirl, The Ray and a Green Arrow who is in the Green Arrow suit used in Smallville.
Tumblr media
Smallville is an Easter-Egg cache of itself here due to that cameo plus the theme song and the farm all being used, most likely just fan-service but I loved it.
I don’t really want to rate the separate parts of the crossover and will rate the whole thing at the end of the event but I think this is a great start to the crossover and I cannot wait for Part 2.
So that’s my review of Elseworlds - Part 1, what did you guys think? Post your comments and check out more DC TV Reviews and well as other TV Reviews and posts.

Loud House Highlight Time - When Ronnie (Anne) Met Lincy, #1: Heavy Meddle
With 'City Slickers' coming next Friday, and with everyone uncertain as to where the ship will go, I've decided to do daily highlights of the Ronniecoln episodes, as a build-up to whatever surprises await us. And what a co-winky-dink, it's the episode recently touched upon in 'White Hare'. So, let's journey through the mists of time to where it all started...
*Ronnie Anne, first and foremost. Or, rather, the lack of a physical presence from her. For being the first episode with her in, she doesn't actually appear or speak until the SECOND episode of the story arc.
*Some of the extras having five fingers instead of four fingers. Don't tell me THEY got radiated by Lisa in an event taking place before the show started! :P
*Clyde's chipped tooth. Bit of an extreme way of expressing one’s friendship (or romance if you’re a Clincoln shipper), surely? :P
*The sisters helping Lincoln with his paper cut. Favourite bits from me include Lisa's possibly illegal X-Ray machine (the NHS would balk if they saw that episode in my local hospital) and Luan's doctor’s outfit, complete with red nose. Considering how the Loud Sisters have seen ‘grown-up’ movies before (according to the Nick Animation Podcast, though whether you think it's canon or not is up to you), I wouldn't put it past Luan that she has seen Patch Adams! (BTW, this was actually used in an early promo of the show!)
*Lincoln's weather reports, which add a really charming touch to the story.
*Lily somehow managing to pinch Bun Bun without Lincoln noticing, and equally somehow putting it back on his bed by the time he goes there. It can't be secret levitation powers this time, else everyone would've seen her. Secret INVISIBILITY powers? (You may think I'm overreacting, but just remember who Lily shares her room with and how that someone in a future episode of Season 1 nearly began experimenting on her....)
*Lily copying her big brother by saying "Sssh!" Awwwwwww~! :3 (Also: we get a rare glimpse of Lincoln as if he's been sleeping for a fortnight without any interruptions - the bags under his eyes are gone!)
*Rita and Lynn Sr make their first appearances in this episode - albeit off camera. Funnily enough, their appearances form part of an 'evolution' period: from voices in this episode to just their bodies in the next episode, all the way up to showing their complete character designs in the Christmas special!
*The error mentioned in the wiki entry for this episode saying how Leni was holding Lily instead of Luna in one scene. Highlighted because I think there's a simple explanation for it - maybe Luna's arms were getting tired and so she had to pass Lily over to Leni while she rubbed her arms.
*Luan cheekily walking like Leni, when Leni was actually in the room. Thank God they were too busy helping out Lincoln, or Luan would be wearing a REAL red nose at that point! :P
*The sisters becoming the first Ronniecoln shippers in fandom history. I'm sorry, but unless I'm proven wrong otherwise, that's set in stone. Even Lisa reminds us that she's still 4 years old in spite of being a kid prodigy by acting her age.
*The above being compounded by the fact that Lana's eyebrows are painlessly on her cap in this scene.
*The so-called 'Sisternado'. Highlighted because we should be getting a comic strip based on that line in the future, if 'The Ten-Headed Beast' is anything to go by! :P
*Lola's attempt at applying lip balm on Lincoln. She's getting there!
*Lucy eerily smiling at Lincoln getting socked in the eye by Ronnie Anne. Either she had a premonition of the following episodes I'll be covering, or she really likes seeing other people getting beat up. If you look really closely, you can make out Lisa looking at Lucy and silently judging her.
*Saving the best to last --- the first proper Ronniecoln moment that we, the fans, see in full. From Ronnie Anne's note (featuring the first time the nickname 'Lame-O' is used), to the smile forming on Lincoln's face, to the hugs and kisses on Ronnie Anne's second note as she tosses up the steak to him, and ending with Lincoln's line "Okay, maybe just this one time my sisters were right. But don't tell them that!" If Lincoln had been busy on Tumblr that day, he would see that we fans didn't need to tell the sisters they were right - the seeds of Ronniecoln had been sown, by those good and bad, and the next episode would see the first shoots come up...!
TO BE CONTINUED TOMORROW IN "SAVE THE DATE"!
